The JJBA of gaming
Like Doom, Minecraft itself, Skyrim, Counter-Strike (even 1.6), and TF2, they are all timeless games and they ARE GREAT. That's why people continue playing them even though they're over a decade old... THEY simply WORK. That's why you always come back to them, sooner or later.
Did you know: if you want to know if the man you see in TF2 is Notch, just look at is hat, Notch as an exclusif hat, only him in the whole world have it.

It was on casual, but now reading the new comment i am starting to doubt it was the real Notch, even if he had the name and the hat, it was a long time ago when quick play was still a thing. Before the Gun mettle update.@@ejotas

Also some things to note: Team Fortress Classic was a HALF-LIFE mod, but the original Team Fortress was a quake mod.
Of course, half life itself derived aspects from quake, so the result is similar enough a relation
@@dacomputernerd4096GoldSrc itself was a fork of Quake - HL is sorta a Quake mod in a similar way to how Titanfall is sorta a HL2 mod
@@dacomputernerd4096 It's still important to keep to the exact facts. Also technically half-life is a quake mod since the GoldSrc engine, the one that half-life uses, is a modified version of the quake engine. A heavily modified version

i quickly wanna mention this, spy wasn't originally a full class at the time. it was a bug in the code where you could be seen as a friendly but you could trick other players with it kill them n such. then after a point in time it went from a bug to well a design you may say and boom a class been added. from there on spy design was based around well a spy. i just wanted to drop this lil fun fact here :p (ps sorry if i miss type something English is not my first language)
Was this glitch in team fortress classic?
@@pabroah6434no this was a glitch that happened in the original Quake World Team Fortress, which resulted the bright idea to create Spy in the first place becoming a staple class going forward
I can't lie Zesty dubbing Notch was hysterical
I reckon most games focus on "freedom" and "player choice"
From connect 4 to dwarf fortress, from super mario to baba is you, from portal to DnD
Its the whole point of what a game is
yeah, tf2 wasnt the first game that gave player freedom of action, its just one of the most succesful ones to do it. and for notch, who cared about these values, it was natural that he appreciated this game
It's perfect
-Soldier TF2
I thought scour said that
DID YOU KNOW:
Notch was accused of impersonating the notch during his time playing TF2, so he made a joke tweet about it complaining about how nobody thinks he's the real notch playing TF2.
Then, VALVe decided to give notch a hat called "Top Notch" that only HE could have. So that people KNEW it was Notch. The item also had a secret stat that made the wearer take 10% more damage.
Finally, a reason to play a Minecraft version newer than Beta 1.7.3.

Thank you homie
While I wouldn't disagree that TF2 have an impact of the game's development *early on* when Notch was actually still in charge, I heavily disagree that Mace + Wind Charge are directly inspired by TF2, it's just a convergence of ideas.
The reason for this is because Wind Charge is directly inspired from Breezes' attacks, which isn't necessarily something that can be tied to TF2 because Breezes are more of an experimental mob that's made to bring chaos by relying on knockback as its main form of attack.
The reason why they allowed Players to use Wind Charge for themselves is because of people messing around with commands that allows Players to play with Breeze's Wind Charge, which turned out to be popular among the community.
And the Mace's mechanic of dealing more damage the farther you fall is just a more powerful and expanded version of a mechanic that's already deeply rooted to Minecraft's combat mechanic; Jump-Crits, which I highly doubt is directly taken from TF2's gameplay since the way you get Minecraft Crits doesn't really exist in TF2.
This mechanic is probably also inspired by the utility of Wind Charge itself, making these two synergize with each other as they are both going to be found in the same structure.
Again, the end-result of these items are very similar to one of the playstyles seen in TF2, but this can be attributed to convergence of ideas (like convergent evolution but for ideas lol) rather than a homage to TF2.
I don't think this is true. I don't think the wind charge was such an obvious drop for the breeze, and it carries the pretty obvious intent of incorporating explosive jumping as a useful mechanic. Now that's not strictly TF2 based... except kingbdogz posted a gif of rocket jumping in tf2 with the caption "minecraft players rn:" the day the snapshot dropped. lol.
The mace is pretty functionally unique from the market gardener, but I don't think it's a stretch they saw all the market gardener-related feedback and decided to add something like it.
@@duncetheman Kingbdogz only posted that gif AFTER people posted references about TF2...
@@user-tzzglsstle585e38I think it lays intent pretty bare

TF2 might've been some inspiration, but Notch said that the two main ones were Dwarf Fortress and Infiniminer.
- Minecraft referenced Tf2 and in arpil fools
-Notch is a fan of Tf2
-Minecraft used Tf2 weapon mechanics in 2024 even tho notch isnt a dev of minecraft anymore
*Tf2 directly changed minecrafts history in development*
(I do think it inspired minecraft, but i also think saying Tf2 changed minecrafts entire history and development is an exaggeration)
This has to be a troll. Man says “I’m not just saying this because Minecraft was inspired by Infiniminer and Infiniminer was inspired by TF2” and then does exactly that. He doesn’t give a single way that Notch’s TF2 fandom affected the game; the examples he does give are 1) a single post-Notch update and 2) *community* made gamemodes. When I started watching this video I thought “there’s no way this is JUST about the wind charge and mace, right?” but yes, I was right.

The only thing is that Notch left minecraft development before the wind charge and mace. This does feel like a bit of a forced comparison but i also understand that artists will always draw inspiration from thier own favorite works inherently.
How did you not mention the Top Notch from TF2 tho?
Loved the video, I didn't even realise that the wind charge and mase took inspiration from tf2.
Well, now I want a remake of Infiniminer.
ive been saying that the mace and wind charge were tf2 references since i first saw the mace and wind charge
not that it matters much in this context but "team fortress classic" is an in-house mod for half-life, after valve hired the creators of the original "team fortress" quake mod
We got rocket jumping in Minecraft before gta6
Crazy how closely tied to TF2 Minecraft is at times
seeing the 2fort background made me want to watch the video bc i was curious lol
no wonder why i was interested and played both games when i was a kid
One was ruined by constant neglect, and the other was by constant changes
Not a fan of this video tbh. You go on these tangents about how you can discover inspiration in a piece of art even when it's not explicit, and then still provide no examples of how tf2 influenced minecraft other than the player simply having freedom. You even try to say that somehow minecraft's influence on fortnite is just as cryptic? You can build. It's pretty simple.
And you also pretend that the wind charge and mace have some grand influence on Minecraft's game design when that's simply not true, and also fail to mention that notch has NO INFLUENCE on current minecraft additions. Like, man, i love tf2 too, but this video is pointless.
Literally!
I get the fact it was inspired by Infiniminer because it is the “do everything game” because you can y’know, build in both that game and Minecraft.
But he fails to bring up a single point as to why or how he was inspired by TF2 at all.
He played a lot of TF2 but that’s about it.
