- Gia Carangi travels to New York City with dreams of becoming a fashion model. Within minutes of arriving, she meets Wilhelmina Cooper, a wise and high-powered agent who takes Gia under her wing. With Cooper's help and her own natural instincts, Gia quickly shoots to the top of the modeling world. When Cooper dies of lung cancer, however, Gia turns to drugs - and both she and her career begin to spiral out of control.
Very sad life. She died in a Philadelphia hospital alone in 1986. No one in NYC cared at all.

She didn’t die alone. Rob Fay(a guy who wasn’t in the movie) who was a close friend would visit her. When she was dying and unable to talk she wrote on a piece of paper “this nurse is hot” and then scratched it out and wrote “I hope” this was shortly before she died. Her mother then was with her in her last moments. - thing of beauty and rob fay.

I’m a recovering addict and I can relate to trying to get clean and relapsing. I was lucky not to OD unlike Gia. I found this 😞
She died of AIDS
She didn't OD she got AIDS which at the time was a death sentence. In fact, she was diagnosed with AIDS just as she had finally managed to get clean. Really sad. I wish you all the best.

we need a new Gia movie or serie with Eiza Gonzalez as Gia.
When I watched it, I did see Angelina Jolie's desire to become her and honor her memory, but also doubted she was faithfully depicted like she really was. Although she was known to be wild, she was also very sensitive and not vulgar at all, but Angelina gave her a riffraff style that clearly didn't correspond to neither the videos nor the testimonies we have of her, even in the darkest times. I believe Janice Dickinson who said exactly that during a talk show, confirming my intuition.
I agree. Angelina is vulgar, and narcissistic above all so she cannot reflext the depth and complexity of Gia! Angelina is so cheap and manipulative compared to Gia so in the movie she adds unappropriate acting. It ahould have been another actress for this role in memory of Gia
