  • This is a photo collection of one of the world's first super models, Gia Marie Carangi.
It's Filled with beautiful photos of Gia, and gorgeous poses and fashions from the late 70s & early 80s.
Gia Carangi was an intense and complex person, carrying a lot of unresolved trauma inside, abandonment issues, etc this led her to want to escape though drugs, and she became addicted.
She also started at 17 in the modeling world, and became very big in a short time.
But the torment inside her was just too much, the drugs took over, and she caught HIV and came down with AIDS in 1986.
She lived a very short, 26 years, and died from complications of AIDS in 1986.
She was a very tormented person, who really just wanted to be loved. Childhood wounds never go away for some people, and it destroys them in the end.
She was also interesting, complex, intense, gorgeous, and she never got a chance to REALLY know herself, and reach her full potential as a woman.
Something about her energy I connect very deeply to, and I'll be making a video about her life soon!
    Thank you for Watching!

To me, Gia was, is, and always will be the ONLY supermodel because she is the one that broke the mold. Before Gia came along, models were tall, thin, blond. They were stoic. They didn't move. They gave only one look. Gia was the complete opposite to all of that. She was short. She was dark. She moved. She gave attitude. Her pictures were tantamount to works of art. And, ever since Gia, models have been trying to figure out how to do that.

And she was between 5'7, 5'8
And because she was not 5:10 or 6 ft tall they sent her over to Taiwan.... First she went to Taiwan and then she went to Japan...
When she signed with her agency 20 years ago the girls that were under 5'9 went overseas to the East and the girls who were above 5 '9,
5 10 to 6 ft tall went to New York...

      @lifeofaseven  4 місяці тому +1

Wow, that was moving, yes," a sad burn in her eyes" really nails it.
I was drawn into Gia because not only did I love the fashion & style of that era when i was growing up, but eventually it was her story, her pain, darkness, i related and was drawn to once i was older.
As I grew up in trauma, abuse, with severe mother and father issues, addicts surrounding me in my family etc
And as a young adult is was just hard to relate to people who didn't have some kind of trauma or darkness inside.
Thank God I worked on it, more healed, and although I still have empathy for people who struggle, it eventually wrecked my life to only be drawn to or surrounded by that.
But Had she been just another model, or Cindy, I probably wouldn't have taken a another look or interest... When I was older,
But I went back to Gia as I got older and began deeply studying her life, very into her for over 25 years.
But when a very young girl, I obsessed with the fashion mags and models, and Gia was a bit before My teens
When I was in my early teens it was the early 90s supermodels, Cindy, Claudia, Christy, Naomi, etc..Gia passed in 86 when i was only 10.
But I had a copy of 1979 Vogue with her in it, and I just loved all of the 80s stuff... Then I saw the movie and looked her life story up, and realized it was the same girl from the magazine I had ...
And yes, I knew of certain issues Gia had with her mother leaving at young age, and having very deep abandonment wounds, and being left to grow up with all the males
And this really wounded Gia about her mother,... And I don't know how much therapy she ever got, she that's really crucial...
Most kids who grow up in some kind of trauma in childhood do end up addicted to cope with their emotions etc ..
I know that this mother wound, never really healed made Gia very codependent, and needing love from others to an extreme degree, and this came out in her relationships..
And I could relate, I did it for years until I was able to really work on those issues, and not let it impact my relationships, learn more about self love.. Etc
And poor Gia was so young, didn't get a chance!
I still even in my 40s am dealing with severe mother issues, wounds, although I'm not really that hurt or angry anymore, it's pretty deep, she wasn't very mothering when I was actually child, and allowed the father to hurt us,... It never really goes away,
But people who have suffered survived certain kinds of things, like deep pain, trauma, yes, you can see the in their eyes
Often times even when they are young, they will have a certain depth, seriousness or edge in their energy and eyes, almost a wisdom, knowing things they shouldn't have a certain ages..
I want to do another video on Gia soon, more about her life, and discuss some of these things...
And i she want to hurt or offend anyone, but I care get deeply about these issues,... I also often wondered if something else didn't happen to Gia after her mom left,...
That she never could tell or discuss so often young people will keep secrets if someone hurt them, something happened,
and they just keep on moving, distracting, doing substances to forget or escape, ... Become more promiscuous, many things
But they will carry it inside, and a lot of buried shame with it, take it out on self...
So, i don't know, but these are my thoughts on her, and I've been doing a lot more research, her background in depth, reading, found new photos etc...
And I've never run across anything saying she was wounded from any other trauma, except one other person said this!
But it really wouldn't be something people would always know,..I really think Gia to many secret, painful things with her when she passed....
Not because she didn't want people to know, but bc young people carry shame and are afraid, etc, and some never get to release that

The Angelina Jolie movie is nothing like her real life, gia is a normal everyday person who got thrust into this crazy life because of her looks and everyone in her life was out for something even her mother, the proof is no one in the industry came to her funeral. So you better take a hard look at what you think gia is and who she wanted to be.

    • @JC-yy8iv
      @JC-yy8iv Рік тому +1

I loved that movie so much back in the day. And back then you couldn’t just do a quick Google and pull up pages of photos of the real person and every detail of their life. Google came out the same year the movie did, and search engines in general just weren’t very good then, and there was no Wikipedia, no UA-cam.
Now that we have access to more information I understand that the movie misrepresented her in a way that’s kinda messed up. But it’s still a great movie and relatable to a lot of people who struggle with addiction. And Gia’s real story is just as interesting and moving, and now we can know that too.

    • @lifeofaseven
      @lifeofaseven  Рік тому +6

Yeah, I have never cared for Angelina Jolie as Gia, the movie was good, but not an entirely accurate representation.
I ditched that movie and never looked back, after researching and finding the real Gia...
I've never been a person who just stopped at the film, for info on someone's life.
This was over 20 years ago, and I spent many years doing research on her life, and bought the Stephen Fried book about her ....so, I'm not sure what you mean ...
But, These are just photos, I haven't said anything, so, I'm not sure what you're getting from the photos... But..
I haven't even covered her life story yet... But I intend to.
Gia was far from average in any way...
She was a stunning and intense personality.... Who carried an enormous amount of pain from her childhood.
She had terrible abandonment , and codependency issues as a result of her mother leaving the family when Gia was very young..
I've also run across information that indicated she wasn't treated well by the father and brother, and was basically turned into a form of her mother, having to cook, clean and care for the men in her family... Etc...
there's one source that indicated other trauma was possibly inflicted on her growing up with her father and brothers.
She was the only girl, and desperately longed for her mother, i think it tormented her being so young.
Of course, other than her mother leaving, which we know is a fact, and that traumatizing her, we will never know the exact truth of what went on in her home...
because no one is likely to come forward or talk about it from her family ..
I'm not totally sure about that part, but intend to keep researching.
And the pain of her mother, the dysfunction, her mother cheating and leaving, and the father drinking..,.
this is damaging enough, but it's likely she was abused or mistreated in other ways....
that she personally never came forward about... Or may have told to friends in secret... But I'm not sure.
I'm friends with Sandy Linter, her ex girlfriend on Facebook, she talks about Gia a lot, and runs a memorial page for her on Facebook....
and Rob Fey, her best friend,.. I'm also friends with him on Facebook... But he never posts a lot about her..
So, yes, I've done my research, I've been following her story and the people in her life, for many, many years..
So this torment she carried, and never got any therapy, or counseling....
She met Wilhelmina, and started modeling very young...
Willie brought her in, and Gia loved her as a mother, .. And just as Gia was blowing up in the modeling world,
Willie died, this triggered all the core wounds from childhood Gia already carried...
And exacerbated her drug use to numb the pain....
When Gia blew up basically overnight as a model, with so much money, fame, clubbing, etc ..
This was the early 80s, people did drugs, and partied to excess....
Someone tuned her onto heroin, and she found a crutch, a friend, something she could turn to ...
To numb the emotional pain she'd always been in... Something that would never leave...
the heavy addiction led her down a very dark path and put her at risk, in danger to be hurt by others, and I feel she was, many times..
She carried so much pain in her young life..

Not just that but she looks like a man and a woman a boy and a girl in many of her photos. She looks like a boy and girl rolled into one person, male/female in one human being Gia.. Gia didn't understand how to save herself and she was having too much fun she was a kid. She was afraid yet she was having fun too or that she didn't want to stop. In addition, its most UNFORTUNATE that she was introduced to grown up suiff at such a young age. Her mom nor dad disciplined her and when they realized she was doing drugs as teenager they did nothing, when Gia stayed out all night they did nothing, even when Gia was barely passing in high school they did nothinq, but when her mom found out that Gia was into girls she sent her to a mental doctor and that she was dating an older woman her mom sought to have a discussion with Sharon's parents about why she was involved with her 15 year old daughter. Understandable, but why not address the drug use, staying out all night as well. Gia was used for her sexual appeal and body and face and Gia manipulated back.

When it comes to that world I mean I've never been in that industry the entertainment industry, modeling and all of that

Most of the people I love and care about are addicts
And I know in that world it can get pretty hardcore and cold
And many of them have a pact
It's just a thing they don't really look at it like they're hurting each other
If most of the people around you are high or drunk or heavily addicted
They don't look at it like oh I need to stop and get this person some help they're going too far
Because yes most of the time most of them are too busy trying to get their fix or not wanting to get anyone in trouble or let anyone know
There's just all kinds of things that go on
Or you're right just too busy trying to get ahead in their own careers or whatever

Not to mention the self destructive behavior, but also the destruction of relationships in her/ my wake. I'm doing okay at the moment, but every day is a fight. A challenge. A struggle.... RIP Gia...❤

Hey, thanks for sharing your thoughts, I'm sorry for what you've gone though..
But it's also, very similar to why I felt connected to her energy so much... not exact things, but very similar....
Ive been doing research on her life & deeper into her childhood, that's the part I relate to most... I have found some things I didn't really know or think about in regards to what may have contributed to her self medicating, and torment inside..
And I want to go ahead and do a real video about her life, even though there are many, from my perspective, and of course the facts, but I want to make sure certain information is as accurate as possible before doing it ..
I have a lot to say about her... And the energy I feel from her...
I also, of course, on a lighter note, was born in 76, she was older than me, but I LOVE that era of fashion! From late 70s to late 80s.... the whole thing, fashion, photography, and she had that PERFECT contrast that i love!
She could pull off many looks, sophisticated, sweet, the clothing, .... But you could always see that darkness, the edge in her eyes, her aura.... and yes, unfortunately, the only people who can pull that balance are the tormented ones...
But it can pull some people over and destroy them if they become too unbalanced...
I've had to be very careful with this myself, and some have to fight much harder than others..
      I understand that.
It's good to hear that you're okay right now...

@@lifeofaseven yeah I agree. the industry used as much as they could from her but then disposed her like garbage when they couldn’t take from her anymore. They took all that was left of her. It’s strange because there’s poems written by Gia as a child that ended up being prophetic, almost like she knew her fate. She wrote something about a girl that was pretty and people kept stealing her golden hair but then nothing was left of her hair and no one admired or loved her anymore and she was left alone. It was chilling to read knowing how her life ended up. She felt what would happen to her even at a young age.
it’s an ugly shallow industry. I think she kept a lot of herself hidden and didn’t reveal her darkest truths even to her friends or loved ones. I saw a comment the other day that supposedly a therapist Gia was seeing revealed that Gia confided in him that her father raped her, so I could be wrong about what I said previously of her being covertly sexually abused by her father. Im not sure if it’s 100% the truth because he revealed it after her death but I believe it’s true. that’s just my opinion.
It’s sad no one protected her in life including her family. Every connection she had was abusive. I think that’s why she craved love out of anything because she never had it. There was definitely a void in her that she tried to fill with drugs.

I paid careful attention to try not to repeat them.. and I've learned a lot since making this video, wasn't sure what the rules were back then ..
Most of the time, to be safe from copy right laws, creators must do something TO the borrowed works, ( these photos) ... Like, show OUR face, make commentary, add music, words, a presentation, etc etc ..
Something to make it out own thing with borrowed work, instead of just showing pictures they belong to someone else ...
So, most recently I did another deep dive on Gia, found a great website with SO many interesting facts about her, and more unseen photos ... Etc...
So, I intend to do another presentation about her life, very soon, with more great photos I've found .... But it won't just be a slide show , more of a discussion, but it will have great photos and a link to this website.😊😊

I remember loving all the fashion mags growing up, ... Gia was just a bit before my time, but i found her, drawn to her story, as so many of us are...
And I related not to bring a model, but to being a young girl in a bad situation, with lots of pain and insecurities, and also being a girl around MANY different circles, from the addicts at home, or friends, ... Rough crowds, running away, the streets..
Codependency issues, abandonment, so many issues from growing up in dysfunction....
To also, being in ballet class, exposed to good things, , and having friends and mentors in MUCH more affluent circles, and never really feeling quite like I belonged... It took MANY years of therapy and work to accept myself, and feel better
I knew what it was like to carry a darkness inside, an edge, a toughness, lots of pain and secrets, .. The mother wound, father too for me,
But be able to LOOK and present totally different.
.. And at the same time be in crowds that knew nothing about that... Had never experienced it...
I was very drawn to her bc of those elements, and many more... You can see things in people that you may have also experienced or felt at some time
Other than that, I think she was just perfection in her beauty ....I was in awe... And omg that era of fashion!!!❤️ My childhood..

And although I loved the fashion of that era , she was still just a bit before My time, ... I do consider myself an 80s kid, ..born in 1976, but, ...I was still so little when she was active modeling...
So I mostly remember the " supermodel" era in the early 90s,... I was 13 in 1990 beginning my teens, and that's when Cindy, Claudia, Naomi, Christy, etc ....dominated the fashion magazines, etc... Then Kate Moss, etc
But I did grow up in the 80s, and that's the fashion I'm OBSESSED with!!! And so, I found an old 1979 Vogue at my grandma's house back in my late teens early 20s,... And I saw the gorgeous layout with Gia & Janice Dickenson...
And a shot of this girl ( Gia/) with this blazer on, with nothing under it, her breasts just barely exposed, and she looked so tough, so intense...
She stood out to me big time, but I had no idea who was..
Then the movie came out, and I realized that the girl I saw in that magazine was HER!!! AND I had no idea before the movie... But I had seen her...
And I thought wow! She looks NOTHING like Angelina... Who is very pretty, but I LOVE Gia's look!
And it's cool, people are still finding her all these years later, and being moved or touched by her story in some way...or relate, or just absolutely LOVE that era of fashion and clothing, etc.... And she brought something PERFECT to it, I personally relate very much to having a rough life, a darker side, surviving trauma, which always brings an intense edge a person,... BUT at the same time, I love to dress in fun clothes, cute fashions, and LOOK nothing like what I've endured...🤣
It's a perfect contrast... And I saw that in Gia... She certainly was NOT just another 80s model...
      😊😊🦋

Yes, we all have choices in life... I think they way too, even though she people consider it insensitive or flippant, I'm NOT coming from that energy, it's just truth...
and if I were to talk about it in spiritual perspective, it would go even deeper... That we chose all of it, that resonates with me... But people get very offended with that theory
For me, it's just different perspectives I think possible that's all ...not 💯 beliefs...
BUT, even with that, I grew up in a very abusive home, father alcoholic abuser, mom not very nurturing, lots of trauma, and I KNOW What is like to be a tormented soul ..
Luckily I had a great, caring therapist, and intervention to guide me, I still made some rough choices.... But thanks to God and my support system, outside my family...
I learned a lot and always wanted to be better....
I do understand that trauma, and some slip through the cracks, no one knows, v they bury it, and are too emotionally immature to cope, turn to self destruction... Etc
She was just a baby.... Yes...choices... But without her mother figure, or a female guide.... She didn't have that development, and needed it so badly
She was gone before she really even had a chance

    • @user-us5pv8zw3z
      @user-us5pv8zw3z 3 місяці тому

Cindy is beautiful. She’s like the girl next door, but there’s just something about Gia that sets her apart. Her smoldering beauty, coupled with an inherent understanding of the power of her own sexuality, causes a vibe of pure “want” to emanate from her being. I’ve never seen anything like it.

    • @lifeofaseven
      @lifeofaseven  3 місяці тому

Agreed,... there is something about Gia, that other models didn't have,... They all have" look" when modeling, but... Gia carried a certain energy, in her soul, her body language, a certain darkness, pain, .. intensity,... And yes sexuality...
It's a deep thing to understand,... But Gia not only had deep wounds because her mother left, and this divorce caused terrible emotions, abandonment wounds, and things very hard for Gia to process,...
But not only that, I had been wondering, as I always do, because I grew up surrounded by trauma & addiction,... My father was alcoholic,.. and very abusive, violent, and crossed all the lines with his abuse... I grew up with both mother/ father wounds, and had to have LOTS of therapy
I ran with certain crowds, and I could just sense others like me, who grew up with some kind of pain, trauma, wounding or worse...
They have a look. Many of them. An energy..
So I began to wonder if something even deeper happened to Gia when she was younger, rather than just the pain of her mom leaving...
Just from personal experience, I KNOW when someone is EXTREMELY self destructive, addicted, there has usually been a deeper childhood wound or violation they carry,...
So many carry these things without ever being able to release it and get help, they use substances to cope... I've known so many...
Then after researching deeper, it seems that Gia herself may have mentioned something with a boy when she was younger, that left her traumatized...
But I can't be positive on this..
Anyway, these are some of the dew of we things i would like to understand about her
And I'm sure it takes the " mystique" away, I don't mean to do that, but it's no mystery to me,
I've seen it all my life..
that " look" / energy vibe ... it's basically kids who grew up traumatized or overly sexualized at a young age.. have a certain vibe/ body language,... WAY before their time, & they carry this into adulthood...
Some are so damaged they become introverted, shy, afraid, and on sexual, and others become promiscuous,...
Or very creative with the pain, they use it... The energy from those painful events they take the power back, and it comes out , translates into their art, music, poetry, photography, modeling, dance, whatever they do...

You can actually tell in the pictures where she may have been using drugs. I know sress does wild things to your body BUT she was already thin n in some Pictures she just looks really, thin. Like in an unhealthy way. I always thought her face was stunning though. I was born in 93 so I didn't really know who she was until I saw the TV movie n did my own research.

They know how to get all the best angles and poses and things like that
I used to do a little photography myself
And yes you really have to learn how to pose and how to hide certain things ... Etc

That's a good question! I'm going to do some research on that and see what I can come up with
I first got into her almost 20 years ago and I studied on her very heavily back then
I had the book about her written by Steven fried
And I studied about her a lot on the internet and read various items
And then the years got away from me and I've picked it back up here recently...
But I've always been somewhat knowledgeable about her past and
Quite a bit of what she went through
But there's always more to learn, and some new things have come to my attention recently
And I am going to be making a video about her life...
So I will certainly write that down and keep your question in mind when doing my research.
      Thank you.

.. There are some where it's hard to tell, and I've been meaning to put together a second video project , more in depth about her life, struggles, love life, my thoughts on things, etc, and collecting more photos, and I do run across photos where im just unsure, and i won't use it if i can't validate that is her.

What I didn't know back then and what I know now! Makes me question if Gia was even a female at all 🤔 Just watching this, makes me question. In every single photo they have her covering her neck. It seems that she has an Adam's apple. Look at her skeltor structure, she has no hips, then she had a thing for beautiful women, she dressed more like a male, even some of her photo's they had her looking more male. Then her depression and not wanting to be alone, her child like behavior and always needy. It does make sense

Well sorry, but we don't get to use popular music, or music people ACTUALLY like for 20 whole minutes without getting copyright strikes, geeez.
That's unheard of, unless someone buys the license to the tracks, you won't find ANYONE with 20 minutes of popular audio,...
They give you a very SMALL selection of free tracks in UA-cam audio, and they aren't great, but they are FREE and you wont get in trouble...
So I chose what I liked best at the time,...
At that time I'm my life the project was more for me, to enjoy creating, that worried about views.
.. I think if more people would just do what they love, from the heart instead of caring too much about what they " think" everyone else will like,... They would have an easier time creating and doing what THEY love
But culture now of course, is to sell your soul to please everyone else on social media or UA-cam.
      Don't think so.
And sit all self- conscious worried about they think, therefore unable to do what each individual person loves, and they audience can take it or leave it.
The ones who enjoy will find it.
Long form video isn't like shorts, you CAN'T just grab popular music, or anything really great for free to use. 🙄
Do you create videos? Or know about any of this stuff? Well, rather than just make it silent, I chose what I chose. That " I " liked. 😊
But, I'll tell you what, for my NEXT Gia photo tribute, if you will go to the " UA-cam Audio" website, ...
And make SURE to click " FREE " tracks, THEN go through all of them and be careful to make sure WHICH ones you can actually use more than 30 seconds of it,
also check to make sure the license isn't going to expire at some point,... so then I'm just stuck with it on my video and end up with copyright later on..
Once you go through all that , with what very FEW songs are left that are appropriate and legal to use, then YOU pick the songs from there, that YOU love
And I'll put them in the next one. If you can find better.! It's even less options now, than when I made this several years ago!

Another way, may have been date r3pe, her friend Rob Fay said that she had been date r3ped a lot of times during her modeling days in NY. Who knows it was a time of s3x, drugs and Rock and Roll and best believe with Gia's addiction she was more than likely participatory. Even in the biography her days in Philadelphia there was a lot of experimentation too. That era was just not the right time to be doing all those things because that awful disease wiped out so many too many people during. the 80s. I know not one knew about it until people were dying or dead from it.

Great job on this Gia video. Pictures of Her are Great*. What* a BEAUTIFUL 😍 Woman. I've been following videos of Her as soon as I saw one posted, what feels* like at least 12 years ago. I too fell in love with Her essence presented in "GIA", the movie. I then Googled Her and couldn't get over Her best Cosmo pictures. No other Brown eyed, brown haired Beauty, with an insane body has compared, EVER. And I grew up with Cindy Crawford every*where. But there is something, or *so many* things, about Gia that make Her mesmerizing! I do wish life was easier on Her, but I too know that is just not everyone's reality. But She sure did shed Beauty and Life everywhere She went while She was here. And She herself admits not regretting any of it, to have the "highs" She got to experience. Of course that can come with equally extreme lows. Maybe I don't need to be sorry for Her. She is Astonishing, Amazing. I feel such a kinship with Her🫂🦋🥰💖. Now Her spiritl is free!

Thank you for your thoughts ❤️ same with me, I grew up with Cindy, Claudia, Naomi, etc ...all the 90s supermodels ..
      I was 13 in 1990..
And Gia was really before my time, or before I was really old enough to even start paying attention to fashion and things like that
I would have been around 10 years old when she passed away...
But like yourself once I ran across her...
No there is no one in that industry that has ever compared...
I mean sure there have been some great and beautiful people but...
She just had that certain something..
I think it was a lot of things...
A certain intensity that would come across, and I feel like that had its roots in her childhood pain..
And Cindy was definitely beautiful, but not anywhere near the energy of Gia.
And I'm not saying there weren't other models that had pain inside or childhood issues and struggles
Because I'm sure there have been many
But Gia really had some agonizing pain rooted deep inside of her....
And somehow to me a lot of the time she would channel that into her looks and her photographs...
Something about that edge just that look she had..
I don't know, but I would like to do a video about her life at some point.
      Thanks for sharing ❤️
