      I feel like the majority of women nowadays are messed up because some mothers did messed up stuff in their past and they don’t lecture their daughters to not do what they did or have that heart to heart conversation. They take their anger out on their daughters when their daughters try to even enjoy life and that’s very toxic.

      Female writer directors get trashed no matter what kind of work they make. If they make something that is representative of their own lives (like Lena Dunham became famous for doing - her first film was literally shot in her family's real apartment and starred her real family members as actors) they get trashed for that too. You can't win. Any of us who has actually put in the work to try to create something knows how much goes into it and it's not a matter of simply "cosplaying" as some of these comments are stating.

    Ugh this is tough, because it looks like it has the makings of a great story, but if Nicola really wants to be a respected "filmmaker", she should have stuck to directing and given the lead role to someone that can bring authenticity to role. Otherwise, it's hard to look past this as anything more of a vanity project in order to become a reputable and even more famous actress that just steals and takes advantage of the story of so many that are not lucky enough to be born into extreme wealth. She picked the wrong project.

      What would have been really cool is if she had done an independent film about opulence and growing up as a good person with all the privilege and power to be terrible person and get away with. She should write about what goes on in Billionaires row, and all the messed things that happens in her demographic. Thats not allowed though so its easier to exploit poor people's issues that she has no relations.

    • @Littlemissdirtbag
      @Littlemissdirtbag Рік тому

      She comes off as a very very vain woman. She can't act to save her life, and she knows it so she uses her looks. It's gross. But if this makes her feel relevant, then more power to her. But it's going to be a very lonely slide down to the bottom of the box office list. I hope this is a pet project for her, kind of like a science experiment. Because none of this from the writing, to the directing, to the production to the acting is by her own merit. I agree that she should have chosen a different actress to play the role. Someone more down to earth. But again, she is a pick me, look at me girl.

      People will say it's fiction, it's acting, but your critique is valid. Similar with Emerald Fennell's film Saltburn that came out in 2023. These stories only get made with money, and it's fascinating to me when the stories are usually 'cosplaying' wealth and class struggles that people in their position of privilege could NEVER understand. Nicola Peltz is not some regular industry nepo baby, she is literally the daughter of an octogenarian billionaire and his model wife. She would have to do some insane research and empathy to create a valuable story like this when you imagine what her childhood must have been like.
      Again, we haven't seen the movie, but it's the valid critique on the state of how movies are able to get made, what stories get told, and who has the privilege to tell them.

You can't change or cover urself up. That is now going to be ur child's first exposure. As adults we look back and actually realize that shit makes us wiser and strong. My parents flaws and mistakes when i look back was their life and where they came from. Today I'm a new mother (planned) and who and whatever i am will be my baby's exposure. For now its all he has. So...I'm a little apprehensive. I don't believe that writers necesarily have to write about/can only write well about subject matter related to their experiences or life, but Nicola Peltz's father is a freakin billionare, like she did not grow up in a financially unstable or broken family whatsoever. She comes from the richest of the rich, a world of socialites and Wall Street. I don't believe she, in the slightest, can ever fathom what it means to grow up in the America that she is trying to portray. I think this is gonna end up being more fetishistic/make being poor into an aesthetic then like, good.

It's not the point to pack the movie with drama to make it impactful. Great skill lays in the subtleness of the trouble that you're trying to communicate. It's just another wanna get great-fast movie... Also, a bunch of stolen visual and storyline styles which is pretty pathetic to do in something that's supposed to be art. All in all yucky manners and a bad skill. A for trying but F for morality and creativity....Honor the art and the artists kids, and learn to spot and point out the bullshit. It's important!

      Yeah, Sofia Coppola is a nepo baby and she is one of the best cinema directors! Let’s give to Nicole an opportunity!

    • @quakeychristchurch
      @quakeychristchurch Рік тому +1

      Yes, i agree, but Nicola is actually not a nepo baby if you look at what the definition of a nepo baby is. It's only if they are in the same field of work as the parent(s). Her father is not a movie producer or director. He has made his fortune as an canny investor, starting out with vending machines, and progressing through other goods. She is the daughter of a businessman and a model. She had the courage to do this, to write, direct and star in this film because yes, she does have the money to do it, but she also would not have attempted it without having the wherewithal to know if she would "make the grade" , and as an actor she would not have got this role otherwise because her beauty is extreme, and envy from other people "you don't deserve this" would have happened even if she did do the best audition. She knew how she wanted to do it. She has done it. People will spit tacks even if it's fantastic due to envy of her background. One thing to bear in mind is that she really must love the arts to enter them, knowing that so many detractors will come out of the woodwork. I am female by the way, and much older than she is, but I've been in the arts for decades professionally, and the people dissing this trailer are just envious. If they did not know the information about her personal background, they'd go "wow, this looks amazing. Who is that amazing woman?" @@rojimenezzz

    She def would’ve been taken seriously had she found a new, super talented actress and wrote herself in as a side character. Similar to how Jennifer Lawrence was a nobody until ‘Winters Bone’ and was so phenomenal that her career skyrocketed and the underdog director got her first and so far only Academy nomination. Once Nicola proved her abilities as a good filmmaker she could then challenge herself by starring in her movies as well.

    I did not realize the little brother was a little brother until the mother screamed that the makeup made him look like the "f slur." He wants to express himself in a way that he likes, but it is too much for a mother who is part of the church, so much so that she could use it as a kind of scapegoat. (Edit: I have not seen the movie, this is just from the trailer that I had just seen.)

    Guess I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed it. My wife and I are both trans women who went through a lot of abuse from our parents, siblings, and kids at school, for just trying to exist, for the things we cant help nor choose. I haven't really seen a movie catch this so accurately.
    In addition, it showed the life of a woman who was just trying to survive for her trans little brother, (sister, if they were allowed to be themselves, or had lived long enough to get away from their mother) while also trying to battle with the life of a being a dancer (& the exploitation and at times sw involved), the poverty & her addiction, and the lines they force us cross. You dont have to go through the real experiences to ACT. Whether you're affluent or not, we've all been though shit.
    Otherwise, yeah, the trailer spoils a lot. But regardless, worth the watch.

    I don’t understand the backlash for this film? She’s playing a character, is that not the point of acting? Are gay actors not allowed to play straight roles now? Are blonds not allowed to color their hair and play the role of brunettes now? Y’all just love hating on anyone with money because hate is more acceptable than jealousy.

    To everyone complaining, most who have never had to sell their body to survive, you don't get to gatekeep story telling about poverty and the like becuase 'you are not wealthy'. Big deal her dad is rich, at least she wants to work, wants to make films and is willing to put herself out there. When rich kids do something it's always dammed if they do, dammed if they don't, the double sword is not theirs to bear and everyones jealousy just makes them look petty. Virginia Madsen is a great actress, the fact she is in this just makes me want to watch it even more. Give Nicola some credit, she is working and not mooching off her parents, and this movie actually looks quite good. Everyone is so f*cking offended by nothing these days, and this is coming from someone who was so poor they had to resoort to selling their body to survive. You people need to get a life.

    I want to hate this so bad because it’s so clearly a sanitized version of what poverty and drug addiction look like. She is so clearly a supermodel and it’s unrealistic. Her face would be bloated from cocaine, she wouldn’t look like that. Hollywood is so frustrating. All this does is glamorize drug use IMO
