For whatever reason, haven’t been around or skated in years. Watching this just brought back a lot of memories growing up and skating with friends from school and around the neighborhood, skating for hours instead of doing homework and worrying about life. The good days.

You guy's sound like your old!!! I lived in Carlsbad in the mid eighties. I now live in Fresno. I'm 54 and there is a group of us Geezers all over fifty that go skate every Saturday morning. Here is the funny part. It's a bike park only but it has cool shit and we all jump the fence when dude shows up @ 10 to unlock the gates we leave : )

      In Bay Area though.
43yrs old now,and it seems every city has a skate park.
Never imagined in the 80s id see skate parks in almost every city.

Brandon,,how old are you & when did you skate>?
i ask cause im hopefull i can get you back on ur board or atleast get ya stoked..
Im 45 & unretired 5 years ago when my 8 year old daughters friend was talking smakc about doing a kicklip & my daughter bragged that i could.
ugh! lol now i had to bust it.. i tried it in the grass & landed it 1st try..
      *1st try since 2001. and in 2001 i only skated for 1 hour. before 2001 i hadn;t skated since early 90's...
now im a curb dancer and backside flips over manholes or off the manny curb is as tech as i get..
but nose slides or 7 inch frontside bluntslides feel great lol..
Bets part is shopping for that vintage deck & indys etc etc...
**i bet you could land a kickflip in grass 1st try too..

This spot was in tony hawk pro skater 2! Memories!

    • @Seamo57
      @Seamo57 6 років тому +15

+Gold Finger - Yes!! I remember being so bored & disappointed w/ early attempts like: "Skate or Die," & playing "720º" in Arcades.. and wishing for something that actually became a reality!
I remember being so pumped about that when I saw that included, but that gap was such a beast.. and in the game you could easily do anything down it.. no prob.. it seemed tiny lol.. but it was actually correct, or extremely close to it, in terms of the size comparisons.. But obviously the mechanics to make the game more "Fun" and allow you to sail through the air w/ ease was part of the joy of it..
I wished the mechanics would've been a little different for "Real Skate spots," to make them more realistic.. (But these were the 1st TRUE EFFORTS at TRUE SKATEBOARDING GAMES!!), with that being said, even the 1st T.H. Pro Skater game was mind-blowing to my generation, (I'm guessing yours too) who dreamed of having such a game when we were just younger (from when I started in '89, at 9 yrs. old, through my teens during the 90's... and then BOOM!!!),
It was so surreal when we first played it.. Unbelievable!!.. and to see this actually, and finally become a reality was definitely something I worried, may not happen, b/c at the time up until practically right before it's creation, Skateboarding didn't have the popularity & therefor the money backing it, that it did to even allow for the production of such an endeavor.. not to mention the technology to produce such a thing.. it was Cutting Edge for sure!
And it was not "COOL" to be a skater in the 90's in most places, we were outcasts! So It's great that things turned around..

I went to Carlsbad High, class of '78. When my family first moved there back in 1971, our house was on the edge of town with nothing but hills and tomato fields for as long as a tank of gas on our dirt bikes would take us. The beaches were empty for the most part except for locals and a few tourists in the summer. I think the population was around 13,000. Now, it's well over 110,000 and with surrounding communities, it's close to 200,000. The hills we used to ride in are now homes, malls, car dealerships, fast food outlets...in other words, it sucks.
Yeah, say what you want about growth and economy, but it still sucks. Overcrowding ruined that small beach side village and that's a shame.

Rob Dyrdek pretty much summed up his entire skateboarding career in this video. The only thing that ever amazed me about Rob's skating was that he managed to stay pro for as long as he did. Matter of fact I'm willing to bet if it weren't for getting a show with MTV, he would've lost his sponsors in the early 00s.

He was amazing as a kid, but I think that skating evolved too quickly for him. He may not be the best skater anymore, but he's skilled bro and my respect for him comes from how much he does for the world of skateboarding. He went the business route which you have to respect bc we want skaters running the skate world, not businessman.

Should do a video like this of Chafey High. These two spots were the shit back in the late 90s.

As an el Camino alumni I’m depressed we didn’t have as cool of skate spots on campus. C-bad always been dope. Oceanside amphitheater contest we’re my favorite.

I saw the holy ghost leave Josh Kasper on that head hit. I remember seeing this gap in print, but this video showed me how insane it was in real life.

We have one like this called Hoaglands st gap in ft.wayne IN that reminds us of Carlsbad gap. It’s still a beast gap among many in Indiana street spots & unknown spots scattered all over.

It's the principal. He saw this new "sketburding" thing and saw how they were just going everywhere with impunity and tearing things up. "Not my school" he says. So legend has it he goes all around campus with surf wax and various other lubricating substances and lathers them up while it's still dark outside. Thus, nobody is able to land a gap there. The damn principal has ensured and is continuing to ensure it never happens.

I use to see my older bro use to skate. He could get down but he never skated her Theo. We're from texas I know it's in my genes to skate I'm 23. I'm getting older I want to skate and keep it going and make to the big times.... I know I can.. With a lot of hard work
