The difference between not landing a trick and not making a home run is that people have made home runs before, but these skaters were attempting stuff that had never been done, and maybe wasn't even possible. That takes a lot of courage to attempt, and that alone is respectable. Another great video!
It doesn't even take anything away from the attempt if someone comes along and makes it. Seeing Jaws struggle at Lyon 25 just made Ali's hungover attempts even more impressive to me. That fact that he made it proves Ali right, he knew it was possible, even when other pros called him insane for even trying such a ridiculous thing.
I've seen (I'm sure every skater has seen) gaps and stuff that would be bad ass but are most likely impossibilities. But if someone tried one of those spots and didn't land it, I would still be impressed.
It seems we're getting close to what is physically possible on a skateboard. El Toro was kind of a mental thing, because all the good gap skater of today can ollie it, but much higher/further doesn't seem to work because of the physical restrictions of a skateboard and the human body.
I remember we went to the leap of faith two days after thrill of it all came out & looked at it. We skated that school all the time & never even looked at that gap because it was so far beyond what we thought was even possible. That gap looked like suicide at the time.
Milton Martinez broke his leg trying that kickflip into the carwash bank and then went back years later, got the clip, which ended up being trick of the year and he was named SOTY. I think that proves Chris Cole’s point about Jamie Thomas and the Leap of Faith
Nah, yea that definitely counts as a make in my book, he landed it and rolled away, he didn’t land and stick and fly off his board, he rolled away for a sec, that definitely counts 100%
Leap of Faith was so insane when I first saw it on VHS. I had like 30 skate videos on VHS back in the day. One year for spring clean up, I actually tossed all my old VHS tapes I put them out on the curb, IDK why I think I got talked into it from my GF. Anyway I had all these old rare VHS skate videos like "Love Child" "Plan B Virtual reality" Toy Machine "welcome to hell" "Jump off a building" "Heavy Metal" I had a ton. I saw this dad and his son going through the stuff people put out for the spring clean up, and the dad's face lit up, and they took all those skate videos, and that made me extremely happy.
That Heath Kirchart lipslide is burned in my brain. But really, that whole part is legendary, along with the song. Crazy no one else has stepped up to that rail.

This is so true. What most people don't realize about skateboarding is how scary it actually is. Even ollieing down your first set of 2 stairs or dropping in on a 4 foot quarter pipe is SCARY at first! It's such a psychological battle to get that one attempt where you truly commit and go for it.
I like the idea of having a slam ending your part as being a cliffhanger 😅. Like watching Elissa in welcome to hell, did she go back or was that game over?
Legend has it Chris' robbery is why the set is locked up behind bars now. Oh and as for anybody lying to themselves saying it counted because his truck warped/broke, I hope you understand how ridiculous that sounds -- by that logic Jamie landed the LoF and Ali landed the Lyon 25 before Jaws. Chris himself doesn't count it, but (according to a recent interview that iirc is on this channel) he was satisfied enough to know that he COULD'VE landed it, and that if he were to go back and pave over the bumpers/pop open the gate today it would just be to satisfy fans. The El Toro tre is still up for grabs, and (I think largely due to Chris' attempts) it's an inevitable matter of time before someone rolls away with it - and they won't be considered the 2nd person to do it either.
@@storied_skateboarding Just wanted to take a second to tell you guys that I sincerely appreciate what you have been doing here. I feel like leap of faith is the most famous but Heath Kirchart’s kickflip has got to be my favorite. I also love when he lip slides the rail and just demolishes the board
I feel like at the time I remember the leap of faith being unbelievable, that someone tried that. But tbh looking back now, it really isn't the greatest trick never landed. It's insane but I know plenty of skaters that could attempt that. I've seen someone attempt something very similar on east Coast And now it's not the highest level ollied. He gets a lot of props for starting the whole gnarly trend for sure, he's the original but unfortunately for him he was far surpassed. He did a lot of buck stuff but it the tricks didn't age well. His parts did but tricks not. It's a trick that many skaters who are off one would think it could be tried. So idk him claiming the most insane trick almost done, is a little far fetched. It was memorable, it won't be in the future
The not landing a trick making it more iconic is kind of true. Everybody remembers Josh Kasper's ollie over the DJ from Osiris' The Storm but he had an equally great one in the same part where he jumped out of the second floor of a building, which got totally overlooked. Also Chris Joslin's treflip down El Toro is probably the most talked about treflip ever.

Oh man it's definitely up for debate. I personally would consider it a make but a landing like that is not going to make it on any part. Sucks that el Toro is pretty much unskateable now.
A think an interesting part of this is all the tricks landed but weren't filmed That random perfect moment that just happened at the skate park, or street sesh before the cameras were on I feel like a lot of stuff has gone down undocumented that would have been crazy to see

It has always felt like tricks landed by not rolled away are what really mattered here. Bails aren't really ever looked back the same unless the person put one to feet. That commitment of trying to stick it and landing board to both feet is really what's being discussed here. It takes major risk to do that part, bails without landing on the board just aren't that dangerous and everyone respects those who gave it a try to stick it.
that tre flip on el toro is 100% a LAND it's just not a smooth roll away....but who cares? better than most people can say....he definitely LANDED IT. does landing mean you need to ride the next 10ft completely smoothly? or 15ft feet? or what??? what if there was a fence or something 15ft away, and he rolled into it?? still landed it.....
From what I've seen, it needs to be obvious that they're in full control before stepping off the board or stopping, and that wasn't the case for Joslin. I remember seeing Brandon Westgate's attempts on a handrail and he couldn't steer after landing to fully roll away, and he kept rolling into the grass, so he just accepted the attempt that he was in full control of. So I do agree with Joslin when he said it technically wasn't a land, but it was close enough to where it proves that he CAN do it without question.
Not tryin to take away tricks thats been done on some huge gaps, stairs etc..but only few will stand out for the long run..Make or not..Leaf of Faith, Scheklers costo kf, Duffys double kinker etc
Looking at this, i miss el toro the most. Because ANYTHING tried down it is legendary and i think we could've really seen limits pushed there like a trick mecca

!!!
3:00 Jamie Thomas was NOT the only one with the 'balls to do it.'
Richard King went for it!
Very true
Thankfully somebody actually made a video about this because it's too far from forgotten and it should not be
That might not make sense but you know what I mean.
great topic
🙏
Love that Joslin was the one to bring up his tre, even he knows just getting close to that shits absolutely insane
💯
You got to put it all on the line and ride or die to achieve great heights ❤
🙏🙏🙏
Yeah leap of faith Jamie yeah all el Toro crazy videos 😁😁😁
Yup
I love it how Joslin doesn’t consider his tre flip a make. He literally rode away.
Lol it’s debatable!
Oh man it's definitely up for debate. I personally would consider it a make but a landing like that is not going to make it on any part. Sucks that el Toro is pretty much unskateable now.
Who is Gary V. And what is this collab? I didn’t see anything about him.
Joslins tre flip is a make for sure!
🙌
A think an interesting part of this is all the tricks landed but weren't filmed
That random perfect moment that just happened at the skate park, or street sesh before the cameras were on
I feel like a lot of stuff has gone down undocumented that would have been crazy to see
🙌🙌🙌
skateboarding is the coolest thing ever
It truly is
❤
Is the leap of faith higher than the Costo one Sheckler landed?
😶
I like Nyjah talking about El Toro "It's such a mission, you're just taking years off your skate life" Lol! If that ain't the truth.
Lol
The Art of Beef is true Bliss!!🤘🤠🤘
Lol
skateboard brands & content creators need to realize that outsourcing for final edits & revisions is necessary when everyone in the industry dropped out of high school lol “epitamy”
👀
@@storied_skateboarding lmao yeah
😢😢😢
😢😢😢
I was waiting for the iconic matt 0 f.... given schlager attempt 😂
There’s a full interview on this channel about that epicness!
@@storied_skateboarding let me ask you something who are you guys i just found out about your channel
And the first thing i realised is you managed to get la creme the la creme of legendary skaters on your videos and them dudes look so comfortable so happy to talk
nothing is forced no bored faces waiting for it to end
Im really impressed
It has always felt like tricks landed by not rolled away are what really mattered here. Bails aren't really ever looked back the same unless the person put one to feet. That commitment of trying to stick it and landing board to both feet is really what's being discussed here. It takes major risk to do that part, bails without landing on the board just aren't that dangerous and everyone respects those who gave it a try to stick it.
!!!
Joslin's tre flip down El Toro is a make in my book 🍻
!!!
that tre flip on el toro is 100% a LAND
it's just not a smooth roll away....but who cares?
better than most people can say....he definitely LANDED IT.
does landing mean you need to ride the next 10ft completely smoothly? or 15ft feet? or what???
what if there was a fence or something 15ft away, and he rolled into it?? still landed it.....
!!!
@@storied_skateboarding SWAG GOD 2044
BEFORE THE WORLD ENDS!!!
Joslins treflip is insane
💯
Not tryin to take away tricks thats been done on some huge gaps, stairs etc..but only few will stand out for the long run..Make or not..Leaf of Faith, Scheklers costo kf, Duffys double kinker etc
!
Looking at this, i miss el toro the most. Because ANYTHING tried down it is legendary and i think we could've really seen limits pushed there like a trick mecca
💪‼️
So correct me if I’m wrong a video just came out of Jamie Thomas landing the leap of faith! Is that real or some bs?
👀
maan dat 360 flip landed stuck on me still
Truth!
