I was at that same show, and yes, they blew Crue right out of the building. Not even five months later Aerosmith played Reunion on the 'Done With Mirrors' tour with Y&T opening. Same result. I liked both Motley Crue & Aerosmith well enough back then, but the only reason I attended both shows was because of Y&T.

Cool to see all these comments praising my cousin Leonard Haze. I never met him but my dad's uncle Billy was Leonard's dad. He told me about him coming over and playing his drum set when Haze was a little kid. Absolutely shredded his kit at 12 years old. My dad still talks about it at 70 years old, dad was 15 at the time. I grew up in Salinas, CA and saw Y&T 4 times at Sherwood Hall - Earthshaker, Black Tiger, Mean Streak, In Rock We Trust. Every tour their stage show got bigger and better. The sound got better too. I remember on the In Rock We Trust tour I could see the backup singers off stage singing all of the studio harmonies - it really made it sound exactly like the album! I'm not sure but I think one of the backup singers is the dude in the robot suit. :D
I saw them at Sherwood Hall many times too! Also when they opened for Sammy Hagar and after SRV at Cal Expo Racetrack...and I was at this show also! I still have my silver mylar Y&T guitar pick they gave out to the crowd. Had it signed by Dave a few years ago.
According to an interview with Lars Ulrich, he had moved to LA to focus on a tennis career. However, he saw Y&T play a show in 1980, and it inspired him to put down his tennis racket and start focusing on music. In other words, without these guys, we wouldn't have Metallica.
Being a huge fan of Y&T, when I was a Junior in high school, a buddy and I rode our motorcycles from the Bay Area to L.A. to see them play and the opener was Metallica, must have been '82. I traded lots of mix cassettes with Lars and his friend (forget his name) when I lived in Hayward and they had just moved to El Cerrito in the Bay Area. I always included Y&T in my tapes and he mentioned that they got a lot of "inspiration" from Y&T. If you listen, Mean Streak was the basis for that chromatic beginning of Master of Puppets and Rescue Me influences the beginning of Fade to Black. Both Lars and James were fans and they opened for them a few times, saw them at Day on the Green together and also Sac Memorial around New Year's in '85. Both great, great bands and still going strong!
And under-appreciated I saw Y&T and Dave meniketti at a day on the green rock festival in Oakland at a stadium in 1985 Y&T really stood out they just came out and played "Balls out Kick-Ass rock and roll!!..........Bill Graham.🤘👍✌
I usually jump on people when they use the word "underrated", because most of the time they're mentioning somebody who is not underrated but is often overlooked.... I would 100% confidence say that "y&t is an underrated band"... people shelved them in a category where they didn't belong, their record company made them wear stupid clothing, but regardless of any of it they were really good musicians and wrote good songz
YES I recorded it. still have 21 vhs tapes numbered, list of whats on them. was in high school lol at the time. good shit. My son is well should be in 10th grade now but you know homeschool right now. KIDS THESE DAYS REALLY MISSED OUT.. 80'S WAS IT. ANYWAY when I couldn't or wasn't going to put anything else on the vhs tape I recorded the color lines on tv late at night when the station closed till the tape stopped. lol first vid I ever recorded as soon as we got mtv is first vid on tape 1 acdc jailbreak.
Y&T is the typical band that never made it bigger in the 80s because they didnt have a cocky singer or didnt have a sexualized look, something that was hugely exploited by record companies in that decade, the same happened with WASP, Dokken, Quiet Riot and all those bands that were demolished by Boy bands that rose later like Bon Jovi, Europe, Poison, Warrant, Whitesnake, etc...commercially the rocking boy bands had a bigger fan base because of all the girls that ran after them. That was a smashing visual trick that record companies discovered: ' Lets use a pretty singer singing a pop ballad'. The dollars were served on the table.
Awesome band!!!! I am rediscovering them again!!! Great memories from 1984!!!! When I first heard of Y&T!!!🙂🙂🙂🙂 I was 13 years old at the time and I saw their video on MTV for "Don't Stop Running"!!!!🙂 I liked the "In Rock We Trust" album!!! Quite a lot!!! But I recently heard their early albums "Black Tiger" and "Mean Streak" it renewed my interest in Y&T!!!!☺ I only wished I could have seen them live in their 80s heyday!!!! Dave is a great singer and lead guitarist!!! He kind of reminds me of Sammy Hagar ( singing voice)!!!!🤓😀😃☺😊☺🙂

Summertime Girl is one of my favorite tracks. Great America started to have concerts and we stood out in the parking lot in a chain linked fence border. The redwood theater hadn’t been built yet. I bought the black summertime girl Tank T-shirt I wore until it literally fell off my back years later.
ya see I met this girl in the 90's and put aside all these great shows - now we're not together any more and needless to say I should have chosen to see all these great shows rather than stay with her - oh well
I remember. We only rushed to The borderline. Then we bought, some C-cassettes from J-music (Haparanda/Swe) . Some one got Y&T. An' we other were, as like that: - whut on da ze Earth..? - Gee, it was only that - mighty marvellous Y&T on early 80's..! =D
If this audio is representative of the live sound, these guys are fuckin tight. Way better than GnR live (except for 2 years 1988-1990 when they were the kings of live music).
First saw them as support to AC/DC in '82. Best serious take on everything Spinal Tap was later to satirize. Wonderful, fun stupid, great Rock and Roll Band
Underrated my ass. It’s a shame some of you think stating that horseshit somehow shows how much you loved them, but it makes you look foolish. There was nothing about them that was underrated. Musicians damn sure knew they were kings. Haze had, hands down, the best right foot in the biz. Dave’s voice, tonal quality and guitar tone are completely unique. Phil’s writing and bass playing was perfectly meshed and then Joey’s rhythm playing was thunderous, but never overdone. When Ronny Montrose speaks highly of you, you know you’re an axe master. They were a Band in the truest sense and anything, but underrated.
i love Y&T, the only bad thing on this video concert is that cameras are too much too focus in Dave , he is the frontman of course but it could have had much better prodution i think...
Great band. I saw them at least ten times before this tour. They got a little too sparkly by this point for my taste....but the industry pressured a lot of bands to do it. 15 year old me was there. Twisted Sister and Lita Ford opened the show.
Had it signed by Dave a few years ago.
old enough to remember seeing Y@T when they were, yesterday and today
these,those were SHOWS.
I love John5, aka,John Lowry,guitarist for the crue.
FUCK the rest of ‘em.
Damn that singer is the lead guitarist
Hell yeah. Truly he is. Dave done The giant job, as like it's done fer long. =D
They were my favorite band growing up.
Saw them twice in recent times… despite tuning a half step down… Dave sings and sounds exactly the same and Plays excellently still!!!
plays the same while fighting Cancer....
I was at this show... Countless shows
I was there too! Great night!!
Such a criminally underrated band
My first concert ever and I will never forget how amazing it was!
I saw them 9 times and was there Dave's solos we're amazing
Have this on VHS from the original MTV airing. So good!
Together we served, as fans an' audience. ;-D
HAZE!
one of the great live bands
Man.. I got this convert in Vhs! Y&T has a true Hard rock veins spirit! Dave Rockssss!
I've seen Y&T a dozen times here in Santa Cruz. I'm looking forward to seeing them again in a few months!
Yeah!! They’re coming back to the Catalyst 3/8/25!! I never miss a show here in Santa Cruz since the early 80s!❤😊
@@angeladesilva7913 I'll see you there!
Don’t forget to listen to “Earthshaker”. That album kicks ass too!
Still kills!
Y AND T ………FUCKING AMAZING LIVE ACT!!!!!!!
Y&T's music is sounding better than ever too me lately!👍✌️❤️🤘
Saw them.open for KISS. Great show it was first time I saw them !!
YES!! Love these guys, my very first concert
The best performance of Y&T for me.
Just saw them last night in Redwood City Still amazing as ever ❤
Saw them at Hammerjacks in Baltimore in 84 I believe it was. They crushed it.
That was an awesome concert! My friend Sherri and I went and had a great time! Glad I can still watch it! RIP Sherri and all the band members who have passed. We miss you!
were there 2 shows for this vid release? is it a small registration...? normally they played ..play for more than 2 hours...counts also for the lie open fire lp.
@@cyanneenjoey i'm wondering the very same. for any of you who were at this show, can you please tell the unlucky fans what the concert line-up was?
i'm going to guess this was a co-headlining gig with Twisted Sister?
I was at that show in S.F. it was BAD ASS.
Major influences in my music style🤘
This was a fun night
I was there and it was sept 25 1984 In Rock we Trust tour. Lita Ford and Twisted Sister opened. Not 85 Down for the Count Tour.
I was also at many of their final shows lol.
I was there, also saw them at Day on the green
Lol me too to both...we should have commuted together! Lol
Of all the shows in four decades. Day on The Green always stand out. So much fun.
@@dotvanhorn2738 Day on the green was so cool. Do you remember how everyone would pound the liquor before going inside and then get sick as hell? I remember The Who and Led Zeppelin. A few others I've forgotten.
@@dangrimes5078 too young to have seen Zeppelin play. Day on the Green were always wild day of great music.
This actually 1984 the In Rock We Trust tour , they also played a bay area date in San Jose on this tour
i'm glad those of you who were there are able to provide details about the gig, the era, etc. puts this show in perspective. this venue holds 7,500, which is nothing to sneeze at.
@@javtimestwo I was there >>>>>
@@got2chews I too was there San Jose Civic Center
Y&T
(1976-1986)
Love this awesome band.
Rock n roll kings!
Cheers! 🍻
The Open Fire album is the absolute shit man..all live. I saw this band open for Motley Crue they kicked their ass.
53 now, going for 54 yrs summertime to turn. If The God gives it'n'that.
This is The Thing. The very Real Hard rockin' stu ff. It gives just some more power to go on an' survive. =D
Very noble, very American, pretty much Hard workin', verry "Mii laikii" an' a lots of it..!
Summertime Girl is one of my favorite tracks. Great America started to have concerts and we stood out in the parking lot in a chain linked fence border. The redwood theater hadn’t been built yet. I bought the black summertime girl Tank T-shirt I wore until it literally fell off my back years later.
I was in montréal opening for Motley Crue wowww good souvenirs 🤘🎼😛
Formação classica, só o vocalista ta vivo
ya see I met this girl in the 90's and put aside all these great shows - now we're not together any more and needless to say I should have chosen to see all these great shows rather than stay with her - oh well
Que gran banda infravalorada !
Awesome post. For Leonard.
Saw Y&T with Motley Crue in Boston 1985 great show and saw them again in New Hampshire 2 years ago as always great show.
Where in NH did they play?
@@mwg911hk It was just Y&t sorry about that
Tupelo hall
@@jeffphelan9565 ohhh ok. I know where that is. It's kind of like a hidden gem for musical and comedian events. I keep forgetting about that place.
great show...........
Road manager every night: "Dave, babe...whatever you do, make sure to close your eyes, clench your fist and _emote_ as often as you can".
Thankyou
I seen them at the Concord pavilion 1983 Halloween and Motley crew opened for them
im 55 and I was there
Léonard..Joe.. Phil...,.for ever..YandT
If this audio is representative of the live sound, these guys are fuckin tight. Way better than GnR live (except for 2 years 1988-1990 when they were the kings of live music).
Absolutely KRACKEN 👌👍🤘🤘🤘🔥
First saw them as support to AC/DC in '82. Best serious take on everything Spinal Tap was later to satirize. Wonderful, fun stupid, great Rock and Roll Band
Wowwwwwwwww
I was at the Sacramento show at Memorial Auditorium when Metallica and Armored Saint opened. Metallica took the night for sure, but always liked Y&T for their music too.
Dave had a vibrato like no other. Their timing in this set
makes your hair continually turn grey.
anyone have any info on Joey Alves' yellow flying v? i think it was a bolt on charvel.....may be wicked wrong?
Ăsta e metalu'!
