WSRS MINEHEAD LEVEL CROSSING IS IN THE NEWS AGAIN

- We all hope to get our railway up and running again as soon as is possible but there is still work to be done upgrading the level crossing before trains can enter Minehead Station again. There have been similar delays in the past, especially in 2019, when a great celebration was held when the trains returned into Minehead station.
Chris and I are looking forward to coming to.Minehead as soon as we can .I hope it won't mean travelling to Wilton for a ride on the WSR such a shame the work hasn't been done on the level crossing. Thank-you for your video Mike.
It will be good to see you both again. It is indeed a shame that so long has been spent with no signs of actual progress at the crossing.
Extra fences have at last been erected at the crossing.30 March 2021. But that's all so far!
Like the update very much.
The latest I have heard is a railway restart date of 22 May 2021, prebooked trains running Bishops Lydeard to Williton only. There may be some DMU extensions to Watchet sometime later. Trains running all the way to Minehead may be delayed as late as July, but hopefully in June. No sign of any trackside activity was seen at Minehead level crossing yesterday.
I have loved the WSR for 30 years and it was sad to see the problems it has had in the past. However, it does need to get a presence out there like the North York's Moor or the Severn Valley. Their websites are very good and professional. It is difficult to do I know with the financial issues but it needs some dynamic person to get it going again. WSR seems to have fallen behind but hopefully things will pick up after Easter. Best of luck.
My feelings exactly !
6 April 2021 and the railway has decided to disconnect the Minehead Seward Way camera. So many people have been looking there on line to see if anything is happening there. So far nothing visible.
What do we know about how the new crossing is going to be located? I had heard they might be moving it a few yards nearer to Taunton and/or repositioning some of points so that trains shunting in Minehead don't need the barriers to come down so often.
I haven't seen any plans. It doesn't look like there is enough space to change the pointwork so that the road hasn't to be crossed as often when shunting yet I have been told the road isn't going to be moved towards Taunton. Curious! Of course they could shorten the platform, but that would be a lot of work!
Good to be kept in touch. Railway preservation seems to be lumbered with too much junk which would be better stored elsewhere away from the public eye. Hope the granite boulders have not disappeared into the mire at Watchet? or was it Minehead beach?
When you see the progress still going on at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway it shows that the WSR has a lot of catching up to do. Sadly nothing more has actually been done either on the West Somerset coast, regarding coastal erosion.
@@ADMIRALSCORNER Thanks. I always wondered about the viability of the WSR with so much track mileage and, with a relatively modest resident population , highly dependant on the holiday trade.
What is the point of the HALF barrier. In Hampshire we have proper full width barriers.
That's what is coming!
Well, who likes level crossings? In an ideal world, they would close it, and maybe build an overbridge around 51°12'11.6"N 3°27’39.1"W You could close two crossings then. Alright there’d be a bit of compulsory purchase of bits of car park and a green area, if Seaward Way was to be diverted, but it would create work for a contractor or two!
It will be interesting to see what happens eventually!

Yes been a lovely Spring Day after quite hard frost early on. I watched Minehead Baptist on Facebook, then transferred via Zoom to the local Methodists. After collecting Roast Chicken from Bell Inn then walk around Doniford. Saw Alpacas and donkeys in local field. Donkeys came up and said hello, Alpacas bit more cautious. Well done Natalia on your food hygiene write-up. Take care you two and God Bless you. Love from Val (and Mike) xx

@@nataliahumphreys7150 Thanks for letting me know Natalia. I am not upset as best thing you could have done splitting up with him. He should NOT be treating you like that- you do not deserve being spoken to like that. If it was me I would certainly finish with him once and for all. You will be better off without him. Jay Blades is a lovely fellow and God loves us all no matter what colour we are. Please take care - love and Prayers - Val and Mike xx
from Val - You are a very special person Natalia and you always try to do your best. Take care
And best wishes to you from Mike.
2:48 So you need TWO engines now?
THAT'S what you get when you abandon the Broad Gauge!
Now going back to that really would cause a great delay!
how long its been closed down they could of done this work ages ago
Many people think in that way. The WSR says works towards this has been going on behind the scenes for ten months.
@Terry Watson I hope we can actually see some changes going on there on the ground very soon.
Well if it’s anything like the heritage railway that I volunteer at it’s probably down to the lack of volunteers, lack of money and lack of support. And yet the public and armchair supporters still moan about the place! Does make those volunteers who do muck in and give up their spare time wonder what’s the bloody point!
@@UKWMO I do expect we have lost some volunteers over this period but I would imagine workers could be hired to do the work should volunteers be short as its being paid for by the local council I believe.
my partner volunteers at one of the WSR stations . I don't live in Somerset myself it's a lovely railway . I know lockdown has caused troubles for places like this . Let's hope all preserved railways get sorted out .
And the guy at 8.59 on, who finds a weird bit of wire, and just throws it into the bushes ? Really?
True, both bits should have been taken well away!
Not a very professional approach. One hopes the railway is better run than that.
10 months behind the scenes? What’s that about a minute a week? Call me a sceptic, I’ve heard the mental rate in country areas is a bit slow, but that is rediculous!
Hmm!
Income as soon as possible must surely be a priority.
@@ADMIRALSCORNER I forgot to put LOL on the end, I’m sorry 😔
