Why 2 Flying Laps is the Best Strategy - Qualifying Guide - F1 Manager 2023

- In this video I will be going trough what I think is the most efficient way of doing qualifying.
For how to handle tyres I'd say use one set for Q1 if you can get safely trough, if you can't use a fresh set for final runs.
Same for Q2 as Q3.
For Q3 we want to use a fresh set for the final run if we have enough sets left over to do the race, if this is 1 or 2 sets will depend on the track but it is usually beneficial to have 2 sets of fresh softs for the race.
For raising confidence in particular during quali you can have a look at this earlier guide: • Easy Peak Confidence f...

I think the main reason 2 laps works so well is that the AI doesn't start accelerating properly. They start accelerating a certain distance from the start/finish line instead of starting at the final corner, so they start the lap a lot slower. That is why your second lap sector 1 time is so much better.
Honestly it probably is a combination of both of these elements, as for some tracks it can be as little as a tenth or two while the worst I've seen so far is 0,8s. I am still experimenting though and will probably make a more refined guide later, but as this was a massive gain in lap times for some tracks I decided to get the guide out early.
I don’t think that’s the case I can say for sure tracks that have a history of 1 lap qualifying like Qatar don’t offer a good 2 lap bases
Also the chances of being blocked goes way up
You can manually control them to get heat until he tyres faster and quicker in or out laps resulting in the option to run three 1 lappers in q3 and q2
I always find time after the first run to try a 2 lapper
Doesn’t always work
I also recommend turning ers off mid lap and back on so that you have battery for the second
That’s just me I play on the hardest difficulty
@@dominicviner6619How well would your strategy work for a team at the bottom of the championship?
@@dominicviner6619 plus in 1.10, u no longer get the "automatic" .6 sec increase on flier 2. Definitely this video is NOT THE WAY TO PLAY 1.10
I m in a position that i cant give much time to the game and find out these things on my own as i did on the last one, so watching your guides and following them is such a time saver , thanks for the guidance..👌👌
With Patch 1.6/1.7/1.8 Qualification has been fixed and as a result your best bet now will be to do a single run.
In this guide we will going over qualifying strategy, for some tracks the AI struggles with tyre heating, and as a result the automatic qualifying for our drivers have the same issue, to combat this we can simply do 2 flying laps back to back with no cooldowns.
Tracks where this has a effect on Sector 1 times (Will update this as I learn more, figured this out halfway into a season):
Silverstone: 0.1s - 0.2s
Zandvoort: 0.6s - 0.7s
Monza: 0.4s-0.7s
Canada forsure will benefit from this strat in sector 1

My fav UA-camr for F1M. Keep it up mate
Thanks you ! I was wondering how to improve my qualifications, gonna try this in Monza!
I found just going aggressive on the outlap works best since its still less wear than 2 laps and less time too
just found you, thanks man. Underrated!
Nice content mate. Subbed
very helpful thanks, it does look like it's something theyre looking into, but i will be using this till the patch at least!
Very good, thanks!
Thank u for this video! Game is harder than in 2022, and now I am going to find some methods for playing.
I like that u take Ric to the Alpha Tauri in 1st season, I did it too cause De Vries killed all components of his car in the second race and killed his race twice
I see a lot of Players Start their 1st Season with Alpha Tauri
Very interesting!
very good
At zandvoort, there is a glitch that the cars slowing down during at short portion of the track on IA (auto).
Nice content, I was using this method too. It does seem that the time gain is also partially due to the AI just starting their flying laps at a low speed, especially in tracks like Monza, Zandvoort and Barcelona. The AI doesn't seem to go fast enough through the last corner.
Wouldn't surprise me if it's a combination of the two to be honest. Would agree on the AI probably not pushing properly in the last few corners on certain tracks.
I have seen the AI going over the line to start a flying lap in Baku in 6th gear
I don't have the game and might not get it but I'm a bit confused. If you do 2 flying laps how do you charge the battery for the second lap?
@@Jur1_00not, its possible on some track you run out but its still faster
@@PayToWin02 I get it now, it takes about 2 laps in average to completely run out of battery in last year's game
You are such a 🐐 , btw are you swedish becuase that’s the accent im getting from your voice ? Keep up the good work 👊
Norwegian actually but pretty close to be fair :)
@@NeroBax Yeah 😂
Is there anyway to check ERS usage after a qually lap? IRL teams usually don't run back 2 back qually laps due to the battery, obviously you're making good second laps so you still have ERS, I'm just curious if the AI makes an adjustment to ERS usage when it knows you've set up a back 2 back lap, or if the AI doesn't care, or WTF is happening to the ERS?
It's just weird things that run around in my head, especially for longer circuits like Spa. 😂😅😮🎉🎉
Thanks for all your analysis bro! 🎉🎉🎉
The ERS is set up with 4GJ of energy usually, maximum usage is set at 2GJ per lap meaning 2 push laps back to back is possible, haven't really experimented with a 1 fast 1 cool 1 fast so it might be worth doing.
Thanks for the tips mate! What are the best driver stats to focus on in your opinion? De Vries keeps crashing every race, I'm about to punch my screen.
Control impacted crashing the most for me, at least in 22
Haven't really tested it but I am planning to in the near future.
Won’t ers be drained on the second lap?
Is the cost cap easier to go other I'm at Williams in Miami and I only have 87 million left and I'm concerned about going other and getting fired
I wouldn't worry to much, if you are worried about the cost cap it is fine to make normal parts rather than intense design ones and skip an iteration every now and again for manufacturing. The cost cap is more of an issue this game for sure, but you shouldn't have a need to worry, I'd say once you hit about 30-40 million left to start focus on research though.
Main reason I do 2 laps is in case Ai get in the way which unfortunately they still do although not as bad as last years game but they don’t slow down when you overtake so if you’re both coming to a corner they get in the way. They should slow down when on out lap and you’re on flying lap.
That is basically how I found out about this, was doing two laps mainly to avoid traffic and have more reliability in quali runs.
Im kinda stuck at the stage where i,am able to qualify close to the points but my drivers just have no race pace and drop down instantly
When you start a race you need to go full attack, ERS deploy, full fuel push. The reason is that the AI will quite literally full send for the first 2-3 laps and if you don't do the same they will eat you up, this guide will allow you to qualify higher than you should, so it is not surprising to lose a few positions over the course of the race.
Is this still the way you do qualifying now? I am still catching up on your video as I just bought the game a couple of weeks ago.
What works well for me is doing two one-lap stints on the same tyre. The second stint is nearly always faster.
I do manual control the moment it is available and am usually able to have non-blue tyre temps by the start of the hot lap.
I will try this two-lap stint on auto as a comparison.
Edit: Another option would be to do a manual two-lap run burning off the extra fuel but saving tyres and ERS for the second lap.
No, it was patched unfortunately. You can still use a strategy like this but it won't be any better than just doing the 1 flying lap.
@@NeroBaxI’ve always found that my times never improve in q3 even when I’m using a fresh tyre set 😭 😭
Why doesn't it work with me can you explain me plz
I have been doing this in my McLaren career and have noticed that at some tracks on the second flying lap they run out of ERS and do not improve.
So I have been taking control for the first flying lap and using harvest to have full ERS for the second lap.
Wondering if u could test this a little and give ur feedback? Keep up the good videos they are really helping.
It would allow you to reliably keep tyre temps and make sure you had ERS for those tracks that really rely on it so it's not a bad idea, will probably try and experiment a little with it when I have the chance.
I have also been doing this, just 1 flying lap, aggressive, push and full ers. Also in a Papaya career. Did one Ai lap and lost like 0,9s. Then was like nope, manual again
During free Patrice, I learn we’re the tyres get to optimal just as the driver crosses the line , then I use that for Qualifying, (Untick the additional fuel) use the Tyre command that will heat the tyres just right,( also keep the fuel and ers on conserve) ,and charge everything up when your a corner from the line, once across set everything to conserve otherwise you will run out of fuel , that works for me ,
This here is exactly what I do also. However this is a great guide for those who don't want to do Manual control i guess.
0:00 General Kenobi
how u get that position whit ricciardo and yuki? how u updrade the car?
If you have a look at the Alpha Tauri speedrun it should give you all information on how we got here.
Question: are t you also gaining time from less fuel?
With the time gained being up to half a second on some tracks I dont think an additional 2kg or so of fuel will have that much of an effect, if so you'd just underfuel every race.
I'm not saying it's not a factor but it shouldn't have that much of an effect.
1KG of fuel is 0.03 second like real life , also after a few laps the games tyre wear just loses you time .
is this still effective after 1.8 patch?
Unfortunately not, in 1.8 they fixed the issues so a single run is more effective.
Does track rubber not matter that much?
Doesn't seem to have that much of an effect.
Should I do this in Q1 and Q2 too or just in Q3
You can do it for all 3 if you wish.
@@NeroBax thanks bro I love you videos you helped me with my alpha Tauri save so much thank you I’m literally copying it and bro I’m doing so good
Is this the same in pitch 10?
No they fixed it awhile ago.
Is this also the case for the 2022 Game?
No, in the 22 game the AI is extremely predicable and making sure you do a flying run as the final car will be your best bet for 22.
So you're telling me the game automatically manages the ERS so that there's enough ERS for the 2nd run?
No, but there is a limit to the ERS usage, 2GJ per lap. With a 4GJ battery that limit ensures that there should be enough for 2 runs on most tracks. There are some tracks where they will use a bit before starting your 1st run, and that could leave you without ERS for your final bit for that second run but generally it is more reliable and consistent.
@@NeroBax You have a point there. I never really looked at that. I will definitely give it a try
I somehow found this by myself
in 1.10 this no longer works. Really wished I had picked the game up earlier as most of the aides/guides on YT no longer work and whatever (if any) abuses there were have been patched out long ago. As alpha tauri I just tried this on the 1st 3 races qualies. I got 0.000s improvements on the second flier.
Newbies in 2024 are playing a totally harder game than was released in 2023
P14&15 with McLaren with this strategy
Is this still work?
They fixed the bug so there is no need to do this now, it works as intended now.
How many Qualifying Runs should you do? A single Run of 2 Flying Laps or a couple 2 Flying Lap Runs?
If you can fit in a couple it would work yeah. You could also do a single lap to start and two fliers towards the end of qualifying
@@NeroBax Thanks mate. A couple runs of 2 Flying Laps did the trick. By the way I Loved your Mercedes Guide Video. Got 3 back to back Podium finishes thanks to you. Have you made a part 2 for that Guide? At the end of that Video you said it’s safe to have all 4 Design slots for Research. Do I need to make any more Design Improvements for the Season?
I have not made a part 2 no. The idea behind that one was to give those who followed it a good enough start that they should be able to keep the board happy and then research for a monster car in the second year if I remember correctly. Will probably make a 24 version of it too.
I just find this to be cheating. Because not only can you get pole in a slow performing car, but also it just makes sense to leave it on auto as your tyres aren't heated but also other teams tyres aren't heated either
This is basically cheating. Not for me.
