Awesome video! My wife and I are in our early 80s and love your videos. I was in Fairbanks in the late 50s but things have certainly changed since then!😊
My family owned property in Talkeetna 1980 - 1997. I grew up there... yes, it's certainly changed. Additionally - loved seeing the footage of Full Tilt at the end! I was best buds with Sandy's daughter, we considered ourselves the official roadies. (Hah!) We were with them frequently. Happy New Year!
I loved your video. I have visited Talkeetna several times, home being Wyoming, but want to be in Talkeetna. Wyoming is lovely, but getting busy all the time, all year around. It's changed drastically over the past 30 years. I stay at the Roadhouse and eat breakfast and lunch there. Drink at the Fairview and talk to the locals. Found dinner at Nagleys.
Thanks for watching! There's so much history there that I didn't even touch on; when I go up this summer I'm going to dig into more detail of certain aspects and make another video or two on Talkeetna. Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for this video! My family and I are planning to move to Talkeetna area this spring and you just made things so much more exciting for us..... Thank you!
Thank you so much for putting this together. Our son lives in Palmer and we always enjoy visiting Talkeetna when we visit. It's a charming community with a lot of talented people!
Great video. Such an interesting past and people. You were lucky to be a part of it. I love thinking back to our town when i was growing up. There was no one here. We would ride our bikes to the beach when we were about 12. Never had to worry. I grew up in Sarasota Fl. The infamous Siesta Key. Ran that island my whole life. Now you cant even get out there, the traffic is so bad. Ready to move back to the PNW. Couple more years and we are out of here again.
Taking my dream trip in my bus 😊 mine is a 1995 G30 cutaway with an American Transportation(AmTran) body 6.5diseisel😉.Thank you so much for all the history & going to the cemetary and all the pictures! Love hearing about a place's history
Thanks or sharing the history of Talkeetna. I'd love to go back and visit way back then. Barb and I wat to wish you Jack a Happy New Year. May 2024 bring you joy, good health , and the Lords' blessings. And of course back to Alaska!! Looking forward to your return in May. Hope you have drier and more sunny days. All the best from Eagle River,Wi. Bob and Barb
Enjoy your Alaska videos. I was stationed at Eielson in the early 70s and have loved Alaska ever since. My friend Tom Redman owns the Denali View Lodge near Talkeetna. Happy New Year from Nebraska
Will be traveling there August 2025 and don’t know how I will contain myself until then. Thank you for such a warm video and let me know if you need anything from little ol Texas
We lived in anchorage in the mid 80's while my dad was in the air force. I bought 5 acres in talkeetna a few months ago and can't wait to get back to alaska.
@@backtoalaska6755 yeah i plan on living there full time. I'm waiting on my daughter to turn 18 because she wants to come. So in about 3 and a half years my dream of going back to Alaska will come true. I have so many good memories from alaska.
I was there for 3 weeks, camping about a mile from town, 1979, May I think, on a month leave from 29 Palms Marine Corps Base. Some local lent me a double barrel 12 gauge, loaded with buckshot. He said the bears were lean, waiting for the fish. He had me practice ejecting the rounds and quickly reloading, telling me jump aside if charged by a grizzly, and to fire broadside into it. I met John Watterman at the store, who had just done 142 days alone on Mt. Hunter. He was getting ready to climb Denali, alone, a trip from which he never returned from, never to be seen again. It was a quiet town then.
Four facts that make Talkeetna undeniably cool: 1) It is the home of K2 Aviation and jump off point for Denali expeditions; 2) There’s a yearly bachelor auction; 3) It’s home to the Talkeetna Bluegrass Festival, and 4) The official mayor used to be a cat. the official mayor was a cat is undeniably cool.
That was a beautiful, loving and thoughtful episode, thanks for that, now I know!
Thank you and what a lovely choice of words! I'm so glad people seem to be connecting to this one! Happy New Year!
