One thing that I think that is very underrated with One Piece's art is its paneling and similar to Bleach, use of contrast. So many iconic moments in One Piece has a very white void background that perfectly emphasize the emotion at the moment. "He laughed" and the SH doing the arm poses was so iconic that even streamers who knows nothing about One Piece straight up thought it was beautiful. But the paneling is truly something else. From the very dynamic actions to selling parallels and symbolism to just giving raw emotions. All is heavily thanks to the paneling. Spoiler for egghead....but that paneling with Kuma running is just pure heartbreak.
I used to think One Piece art just look goofy. Until I start studying art. The amount of work and understanding you need to design and place characters with those wacky shape and size are insane.
Don't we all...ive been tracing ichigo and more. Then I'll trace over my own untill I am just drawing it myself. My friend been a artist since 01' I was the nusician who wanted to draw but couldn't and wanted to sing but cant😂 I can play any instrument but God took away the two things that I REALLY want
Really neat discussion. I just wanted to add a few things onto your discussion of Naruto's art. For one, I wouldn't say he uses a "simplistic approach" with his early designs. If you pay close attention, you can see a lot of detail is put into things like how clothes fold on themselves and hang off the characters. It becomes especially clear when compared to Bleach designs, which are long and slender, and so such details are generally omitted to maintain that "sleek" look. For another, you talk about how Kishimoto develops a stronger sense of perspective as the manga goes on, using the Sasuke vs. Kakashi interaction as an example. While I agree that this sequence is slightly more flat than later scenes, I believe that this is by design. In a lot of these earlier fights, Kishi's focus is on the choreography of the fight itself. We see a lot more panels dedicated to the individual steps of each sequences (from the wind up, to the flight pattern, the strike, and the follow-through), giving them this seamless, fluid quality. Trying to balance this complex choreography with super dynamic perspective is borderline impossible given the weekly release schedule. By contrast, those later fights like Naruto vs. Sasuke -- which AMAZING and definitely better overall -- don't use this same step-by-step paneling. Moreover, I don't think that this earlier style ever makes the paneling feel stiff. On the contrary, taking so much time to walk the reader through each and every movement allows them to more easily follow the flow of events -- which is exactly what good paneling should do.
for me his the most well rounded an the one who improve the most when it comes to panelig ,kubo for me has the best asthetics and oda the best compositions
Im a kubo stand. Kishimoto has THE GREATEST motion in action since CH.1. Which makes me upset kubo doesnt get that motion until maybe waco mundo. Kishimoto had the best art from day one. Kubo was the opposite he started ok then just destroyed them all. Oda is the weekest in paneling and fights but i think the backrounds definitely are his strength and world building.
it has ALWAYS been THE big 3 you can't just add the fourth one. in any case dragon ball was the predecessor ("the father") of the big 3 so you can't put it next to bleach, naruto and one piece they're separate things
Kubo's art style feels like a poem I know he loves poems. He's art style alone which makes Bleach my fav series.
My Goat is Always Bleach!

With how much Oda, Kishimoto and Kubo evolved as artist, it's no surprise that their respective manga became _The Big 3_ over here in the West.

I started watching One piece because the anime is colourful and has good composition
Allot of people overlook that fact and write it off as "oda can't draw" and they don't know nothing about art except shading
😂😂
@@CapGodSamafax
@@CapGodSamaexactly the fact that oda can make goofy designs work is a sign of a good artist
Bro, when the hell arc hits. Hopefully Kubo can do it within a healthy time schedule.
I remember after finishing the bleach anime i saw bleach’s early art and thought that it was fan art its insane how much his art changes
Naruto:
From Manga to Anime,
One Piece:
From Cartoonist to Mystologic,
Bleach:
From Style to Realist.
18:13 I mean he literally had a broken shoulder tendon and got ill every month. Of course he had to end his manga quickly.
I think Bleach has the most unique Art style
One of the best thing, that I want to be able to do, are the eyes and expressions from Bleach

I love his perspective and the way he draws anatomy, with only face being stylized.

Man, I miss the times of big three
The world used to be simpler you know?
One piece devolved, the others evolved, oda schedule too rough
Usopp was the one character design was the best post time skip. I perfer the sharper face structure.
It’s the Big 4 brotha DBZ, One Piece, Naruto, & Bleach
It's not. DBZ it's own thing, u can call it a predecessor, a father of sorts.
