We're long overdue for some quality Straw hats "filler"
I would love to see Sanji cooking more in the remake, interacting with each island's culture and cuisine, gathering ingredients for the trip. Or Chopper doctoring and studying before hanging out with Robin. Oh since you mentioned Zoro and Sanji, how about if they competed with each other on the ships chores?
Could even expand on the crews interactions like Usopp and Franky inventing stuff together, thinking with unique technologies they find like Usopp's dials.
Even for actual fillers, imagine all the crazy wacky stuff they could come up with different islands like they did with G8!

Yeah that's literally the only thing wrong with One Pace imo, their view of "if it's not in the manga, it doesn't matter" is ridiculous as there are scenes that bridge things together properly. Like I had to show my friend a few really nice scenes (like the Zoro and Chopper one this video showed) or G8 of course.
But I heard that they're making a separate video to watch if you want your One Pace experience to lead into G8 properly, and it seems like they're finally realizing not all filler is "bad filler"
Bad filler is what One Piece has, where for some reason a scene of Luffy running can be up to 2 minutes for absolutely zero reason, reusing shots that happened like 10 seconds ago, and being borderline unwatchable without realizing how it's just there to pad for time.
Good filler is stuff that actually has thought and work put into it, that also happens to be filler
Nothing wrong with a nice wholesome scene of the Straw Hats just relaxing and sailing in a peaceful windy day.

I want them to really capitalize on the “vibe” of the show. The calm and adventurous music the light hearted and simple manga design. I want the show to have that light hearted happy adventurous feel. So new music would be huge. Also the filler is massive. They need to make this world feel alive. Give characters many moments together even if pacing takes a slight hit I don’t need them to rush and finish in east blue in 10 eps. I want them to go more into the dynamics of the crew. Many peoples favorite moments are the in between where the crew hangs out on the ship. My favorite thing about pre timeskip one piece was the little filler scenes that add so much. I don’t want to just go island to island I want the experience of hanging out with characters the straw hats and characters are the reason people watch the show. They also gotta capitalize on the beauty and nostalgia of the world. They really can’t have the world feel dead. Luckily from what we have seen so far they seem very focused on building a world but again to do that more than anything they need the filler. More of characters exploring islands insight to character interactions and dynamics crew mates enjoying them selves on the islands tons of scenery and more time spent on the ship if it’s done well

    @ilovestuffist Місяць тому +30

I 100% agree about the pacing you're talking about. Which is why I'm glad Toei is allowing another studio to do the remake. That's where a lot of remakes of older series that Toei Animation have done such as Sailor Moon and Saint Seiya fail at. It's the pacing of how much they should add in between panels. The Sailor Moon remake is almost panel for panel from the manga and the manga was created about the same time the original series started and the author had to rush some of the character development to get to the next chapter so she can stay ahead of the anime. The remake didn't add character moments like the original 90s anime did. As a result, the remake didn't feel like as emotional as the original because we spent less time with character interactions that made the original series special. Which is what I'm hoping for in the One Piece remake is to have better pacing that doesn't drag, nor does it rush.

It is an important scene not only for understanding Zoro's perspective of a team a little better, but also for Chopper to realize what kind of group he joined while also giving him room to figure out for himself what being a pirate means for him.
Zoro is supposed to fill the role of a dad/ older, tough brother for Chopper and this is one of not too many moments showing it.
It honestly belongs in the remake, but I really doubt, they'll add it.

The best thing about this remake, is that since they have over two decades of material to work with and no fears of ‘catching up’, every scene can be hand crafted to be the best version of itself, with no need (besides episode length/commercial breaks and season finales) to worry about how it will affect how fast the story moves

It would be cool to see the things that Oda considers canon (like the Ace Story) included in the anime somehow, like as a way to get us more connected to Ace before Marineford we could have Ace telling Luffy his adventures (of first starting out) in Alabasta, also some of the details that Oda includes in his SBS's should be included in the anime (at least the important things).

Totally agree with your point regarding filler. Those mundane scenes on the ship were some of the best parts in the series. It adds so much more to their bonds. One other example of this is the episode where Brook newly joined the crew. The whole episode was about him trying to figure out his relevance in the crew. The ending where he played Bink's Sake was so beautiful.

Maybe the coverstories could be their one own little episode each season!
Here's an example of an idea: The season of Enies Lobby could end with the death of Merry. But then the first episode of the next season could be dedicated entirely for adapting the CP9 agents coverstory. How they survived, gained money to treat Lucci and how they practically leave WG, but promise to come back some day. Setting up the whole CP0 for the future. Then we go back to post-Enies Lobby arc.
Or they make post Ennies Lobby before this and the season ends with Franky joining, Sunnys reveal and Straw Hats leaving Water Seven. But the same set up still.

As someone who has been watching OP for about 15 years (and eventually started reading the manga) let me tell you there are 3 changes that need to be made VERY CAREFULLY:
1.- The soundtrack (it has to be remastered, not entirely changed, since is WAY too iconic, but old)
2.- The voices (If they are changed, it will open an eternal debate, no doubt)
3.- The openings (Same as the soundtrack)
Wit's version of OP shouldn't be a declaration of war between the NEW and the OLD

Very well make video! I am so hyped for this. I am also hopeful that the art style will match the color concepts, but colored better. Watching the Ranma 1/2 remake on Netflix is giving me hope that a lot more of these remakes of older anime will take this hyper colorized soft and fun style, a lot like much of the source material. If they can learn from these other remakes I think they could make something truly special that can become the adaption One Piece deserves.

Honestly seeing them refer to props and draw frames while looking at the manga pages made me even more excited. I love how detailed all the concept art is. I love that you can tell Zoro and Sanji have different builds and body types in the character sheets. And while they should maybe saturate everything a little more, I love the marker look. It looks just like the color spreads. I hope they keep it. I also hope they keep some of the filler stuff the anime did that was actually stuff that Oda wanted to put in but then cut it for time. Like Usopp’s shooting competition and Sanji’s cooking competition from Loguetown. I would also love if they added in some easter eggs that we now know with hindsight, Things like a Marine report about the dreaded Kid pirates or a newspaper article mentioning "the Surgeon of Death Tearing Up the North Blue." Basically what the Live-Action did. I also hope they fix a lot of the color mistakes that the anime made, like Robin's eye color and _Merry’s_ head being brown and not white. And please bring back the orange color for Kuma's jacket. But the production team is crazy! The _Attack on Titan_ director, the director of _Jujutsu Kaisen_ as your assistant director, the character designer and chief animation director of _Attack on Titan_ and _Spy x Family,_ the action animators for the remake worked on _Boruto_ and _My Hero Academia,_ the writer of _Ranking of Kings,_ and the remakes’s animation producer also worked on _Attak on Titan!_ What‽ The board member of WIT in the video said he first heard about the project 4-5 years ago which means they’ve been discussing doing a remake since Wano.

This video is spot on in so many ways! Especially regarding the "filler" stuff. Things like the crew just hanging out and doing menial tasks like fishing or washing dishes is one of those things that was essential in grounding the interrelationships of the crew! It's a necessary evil since Oda has to finish someday but I really miss these moments in the current story. Perhaps that's why Franky always felt a bit weird to me as a crewmate. Before we ever truly got to know who he was in relation to the crew, beyond his formal role as a shipwright, Brook was already being introduced.
If I have to add one thing, I think everyone is getting ahead of themselves regarding the art of the finished product. It's very common for concept art, especially early concept art, to have a more handpainted look. Thus while it may not be as saturated as Toei, I sincerely doubt that the more washed out handpainted aesthetic will persist. I mean who knows, but I think everyone is being a bit hasty in assuming it will be the same.

I usually get annoyed when i see things getting remakes, but this im excited for. Toei did a great job adapting the manga, but theres so many places they could have improved, so many story beats they could have stayed true to but didnt, so much material they could have used instead of adding filler but didnt. Ive been reading the manga after catching up to the anime, and i keep finding myself wanting to rewatch certain parts (like dressrosa) but i know the pacing will ruin the excitement for me. Even when i was bindging the anime i was fast forwarding through recaps and long ass reaction shots, skipping half episodes cuz it was all recap. So something new is so exciting. I cant wait to reexperience this story again through a new teams eyes.

At last someone Talking about the "good" filler elements (in between character moments, welltomed reaction shots, flashbacks, events like the Arlong park walk, many instances in Wano where the rushed Manga is elaborated a bit more making it more epic..., especially expanding those rushed portions in manga by Oda sensei due to deadlines like Wano ending etc...)
Also, extra additional details using SBS, Oda's clarifications and also "good" filler based on Oda sensei's extra info to the animation team... Which Toei also used to do by providing anime only "cannon" details (occasionally).
Of course the"bad" filler elements which r just unnecessarily dragged out stuff is not needed like too many reaction shots, unnecessarily dragged out, repetitive flashbacks etc.., which affects the pacing.
Cover stories is something they can adapt which will a golden opportunity for WIT to differentiate themselves from Toei.
Also, haki consistency and visualization post time skip... Whether something is advanced Conqueror's haki or advanced Armament or base Armament haki.
I'm not someone who wants to see haki coating pretimeskip, as we r seeing from Luffy's eyes and we don't see it.
But there also, they can hint haki wherever Oda sensei left things open-ended for better consistency.
-Recasting VAs is also a practical idea... The OG cast needs rest... as they are also human.
It would be fun to that the OG cast play the "fake strawhats" in Sabaody by putting their unique spin on it... Which is easy for them as it'll only be as cameos... 😂😂

I also don't know how they will capture one piece, will they be able to make it as fun and lighthearted as TOEI did? Or will the style of the show change? I mean it doesn't have to be the same, One Piece Live Action does not have the vibe of the anime and it still works, but I think even more so than shows like DBZ, DBZ Kai, FMA, FMAB, people will only watch 1 or the other, I only watched DBZ and FMAB, but One Piece while I will watch the remake and the original, I kind of already know what it's gonna be like with some people not having the same experience, or never getting to understand how good the version the other people watched was like, I think DBZ and FMAB are my preferred 2 and I wish other people who watched Kai could get to experience some stuff that isn't the same as it was in DBZ, or people who watched FMA or og HxH could experience HxH 2011 or FMAB and how good it is, but a lot of people won't want to revisit what they have already seen.

The thing I will be basing my opinion on the new version on will be the comedic timing. The jokes in pre timeskip one piece are sooo good and sooo well timed. Toei pacing is for sure a big problem, but comedic timing was actually very good! The new version will surely be more fast paced and beautiful, but for example Wano was also faster and more beautiful, but not really funny (or not as funny as a lot of pre time skip (think of for example jaya or the start of thriller bark))! I just hope they will do it justice. I really don't know whether the producer will be able to do the humor justice.
I would like for the new One Piece to feel more like G8 and less like Wano 🤷‍♀

I love that you mentioned that "romantic" nostalgic feeling the east blue saga has, that's the exact feeling I want from this remake and I absolutely agree that a new soundtrack would make a huge difference. Honestly I don't know if it's even possible but best case scenario to me would be getting new arrangements of some of toei's soundtrack in juuuust the right moments. I hope Wit Studio can get the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure sound designer to work on the One Piece remake, unless he's employed not contracted by David Productions. Because where DavidPro JJBA might be admittedly lacking in animation, Yasumasa Koyama more than makes up for it in sound design, the sound of “The World - Time Stop” is iconic, “King Crimson - Time Erasure” is frightening, the way “C-Moon” intimidatingly walks, the way Enrico Pucci and “Made in Heaven” zip around. The interacting sounds of Bruno Bucciarati's “Sticky Fingers” making long-winding zippers while far away underwater as the POV is near Secco's “Oasis” which liquefied the ground to water, and in the same fight Secco spits the water out of range to deliquefy it back to stone shards and rain back down, which bombarded Bruno underwater. And also “Stone Free” generating a möbius strip on Jolyne's body to prevent “C-Moon” from inverting her body makes a repetitive noise ‘pretty’ and not ‘irritating.
That is the man who should sound design on One Piece, Yasumasa Koyama (小山 恭正). I believe One Piece's powers is perfect for him.

    1) kind of glad you pointed that with one piece good pacing =\= fast pacing. i"m always mad that a lot of people think the early episodes of one piece (or other shows of that era like hunter x hunter 1999) are unwatchable because of a slower pacing. a lot of times in one piece, espielly after the timeskip, the anime gets noticablly worse because of it's pacing but it wasn't always that way. i just struggle to believe a seasonal show like one piece reboot that also needs to compete with all new anime as well as it's original getting the 150 episodes minimum that it needs just to get to the parts that actually need fixing in the original
    2) original episode fillers absoulutley deserve the reputation they have, but if also think they are underrated in terms of conributing to their franchise. durring the big 3 era people obssed over the most random characters, and that was mostly because the shows length allowed so mant characters. but it was also because filler arcs gave space for a lot characters like most of konoha 11 and the soul society mini arcs when their role in the main story shrank. i think if modern anime like jujutsu kaisen or demon slayer had them it would make their extended cast much more popular
    3) agree, the va are classics and each of them is talented, but they have been casted 25 years ago. the aging and the fact that they performed the same lines for years and years is felt, the franchise needs new blood. one piece is not one piece without muyumi tanaka and the gang, and any new one piece game without them is a sin, but as long as the main series keeps them i will be happy
    4) totaly agree about the sound design, i like one piece's consistency but there's no reason to not update anything
    5) i feel like the ideal way to use music is the botw aproach, give the series it's own identity with it's own music instead of a milion covers of old songs for fanservice, but the new composers could hide tiny refernces to old songs in the music for diehard fans.
    6) something about the character designs of the new series feels kind of rigid and lifeless, i"m not sure how to put it into words. i love when one piece does a radical change of the character designs like wano, egghead and movies, but something about the new designs doesn't work for me. oda's pre timeskip designs are very dynamic and there's none of it in the concept art in my opinion. both aot and psycho pass have good designs, but they are not known for expresive characters. something like Nozaki Atsuko work on wit's ousama ranking would fit east blue much more in my opinion
    7) i"m afraid toei's one piece will get worse with the wit reboot. both studio's rely on freelancers to function, so the talent pool of animators passionate enough about one piece to work on it will be shared between both productions. wit's seasonal nature would be hurt less
    8) cover stories not being adapted to this day is a travesty. jump series in genral underuse color pages and spreads.
    9) i just struggle to imagine the reamke adapting the content that needs a remake the most. we are either never going to see wit dressrosa or it's going to have promised neverland 2 pacing. wit never adapted more than 3 seasons of single show. unlike a studio like bones that is known for longer adaptations like mha or bungou stray dogs, i don't trust them to commit to such a long production even on the best terms
another debate about modern one piece that i see a lot but isn't disscussed about in the remake the modern toei auras. a lot of people hate them because "one piece isn't dragon ball" but i think that from wano onwards they feel awsome and deserved. the strong trio are not just some pirates, they are a yonko and his wings and they should feel powerful. i feel that for early one piece when the strawhats are just some guys auras would feel weird

I love One Piece more than any other animanga property in existence. That said, even as early as Baratie, the pacing is UNWATCHABLY slow. It’s ridiculous. I totally agree with good pacing =\= fast pacing.
Ive had a lot of trouble engaging with some other animes because they dont allow themselves the time to develop chacracters/audience relationship. They feel like rushing to reach the end of it.
Sometimes even slow pacing is better than fast pacing. If you can make smooth cinematic transitions, like taking the time to show some shots of the sea and people hanging on a town but done good, that is something I much prefer than just skipping that.
A problem with the toei pacing though is that it does this things badly and in tye climax of arcs sometimes. And im thinking of the onigashima part of wano here. It was so hard to watch even when it was the climax of the arc. I was so happy when i caught up and switched to the manga right before gear 5.

I would like the remake to clearly stand out from the anime with a different sound design, music and seyuu, this is what HXH 2011, Dragon quest 2020 and Jojo Bizarre adventure did (parts 1 and 3 are basically remakes of the film Phantom Blood and OAVs of part 3 released between 1993 and 2000)
and for the seyuu I prefer that it is a change of seyuu from the first episode instead of him announcing that he will play their character and then a hundred episodes later declaring that they were going to retire (or worse Again )
at the limit that he is present but that he plays older characters

People saying "why are they remaking this" CLEARLY haven't watched the Toei anime. IT SUCKS, they stretch 1 - 2 panels out for 20 minutes after 10 minutes of recapping the last 10 episodes. It has its good moments but for the most part it is a SLOG to get through.

You're obvi new here. I read and watched since 2003 and have never cared, just love the world of One Piece. Don't get how people can bitch and moan this much for more speed, One Piece isn't about that and it never has been. Even in the manga panels could be a bit dragged but loaded with information if you looked for it (pretty fat reveals). But 1-2 panels for 20 minutes? You're being absolutely ridiculous my man, and you know that.

I think on the sound end, the reason they haven't changed it is because EXPECT it to be that way? It's like how Lightsabers in Star Wars have a specific sound or how Blasters in same said series sound. I get the feeling they don't want to jar or anger some fans by changing the sound effects.

I keep commenting lmao but I also want to say, the sudden increase in one piece animation quality is likely due to the fact that all the kids who grew up on One Piece are now rising up with the "New Gen Animators" of the Digital age of 2D animation. They're all joining to work on one piece with great passion, and we also are seeing a lot of fantastic key animators like Chris BM, ROAD SIGN, Akihiro Ota, Shinya Ohira, Vincent Chansard, Shuu Sugita, Bahi JD, Masami Mori and many many more- most of them seeming to have joined the One Piece production only in wano. The new animation director allows much more flexibility with visual style to "break" the art style at times, which leads to amazing animators like Akihiro Ota and Masami Mori to really shine. They also improved the colours, and the lineart. Anime Lineart looking "too clean" is an issue One Piece had for a really long time, and I think most noticably in Dressrosa, Whole Cake and Zou. it just looked yuck. Wano brought forth an age in One Piece of creative liberty, similar to the creative liberties that Mob Psycho 100 had, where the beauty and passion in art is appreciated through the show, most noticably to me, by Megumi Ishitani. One Piece has elevated itself from just a story that is animated, to Art in every way (except perhaps the sound design, lmao).
