Bill Maher and Billy Corgan on rock-n-roll urban legends, the very bad thing that happened to the singer of Three Dog Night, how every band has a Connie, why Billy doesn’t behave like a typical rock star, Billy’s dad’s unorthodox career, Billy’s Bob Denver story, and what motivates Elon Musk (it’s not money).

It's almost as if Corgan is just tolerating the drunk guy at the end of the bar. I love it!
Gotta keep Gramps away from the liquor 🥃 😬
All that's missing is the bar
That’s how I felt watching it. 🤣🤦🏻♂️ Great Corgan interview though, when he was able to speak. Billy was kind, entertaining and very calculated/thoughtful in his responses. 🏆 Though I agree with Mayer’s hinting-around of political control (masks) and censorship (fat) whole heartedly…his rambling on fat people was exhausting. “Call it as it is”? Absolutely. But talk about the politics and capitalism thats creating and maintaining that problem, that obv doesnt exist to the same degree in other countries…per Billy’s subtle nod to Australia. Mayer talks like he doesn’t get it, and doesn’t want to cause they’re an affront to him.
yeah.. during the whole video you mostly hear Bill's voice
I’m impressed he’s so clever and funny too
Billy Corgan is such a class act. Speaks from the heart. He has been and done that. Obviously in tune to reality and reads lots.
The general public whom we love to death mostly except those who are incredibly not willing to learn and not treat others how they want to be treated. We still love them too but they really need to change soon because we are as we speak living in the times of the last pages of certain famous old books, cough pardon me here. We could all use a "great awakening potion" of some sorts here. Get the general public to not go woke but to wake up to REALITY of what is really going on here. Alternative media is so censored that it is speaking to the choir for many years now. We need all eyes on what we are really dealing with that matters to folks. What am I talking about here? Glad you asked. Manipulated Gas prices, food shortages, car parts inflated, grocery inflation. rent and bills inflated, the border, etc. Common folks are not paying any attention to the Senate Hearings because the mainstream are involved in the crimes because of all of the blackmail and corruption. Their excuse is that they are just doing what they are told to do. That is called either Slavery or involvement.
He couldn’t agree more. Billy is the most talented, insightful, interesting person he’s ever met. Lol Big fan of his music but I kinda laugh listening to him talk when he takes every single opportunity to posture. Not that he hasn’t earned it , but more-so that he doesn’t have it all figured it out and neither do I.
And he’s a Cubs fan!
@You Tuber Lets be honest....Maher has been sniffing his own farts too long.
Long live Billy Corgan.
Its criminal that billy corgan doesn't get the recognition he deserves as a great guitarist
Oh I think he does, but it’s over shadowed by his reputation as a ass. I’m not saying that’s deserved or undeserved , but I’ve be always been a huge fan and that’s the perception most non-fans have of him.
@@jc9923 between corgan's guitar and chamberlain's drumming they were light years ahead of most of those 90s bands in terms of musicianship. I got to see them live twice back then and I swear I saw a 3rd arm pop out from jimmy
Aside from Pearl Jam and RHCP, not too many of those other frontline 90s bands had the kind of guitar skills and compositional abilities too. Of these bands were highly skilled in general aside from Billy doing extra in his band. These bands have all been pretty prolific too where many of those others have broken up or went silent.
@@MagicCarpetRideShareProject yep the truly talented bands always persevere. Alice in chains was my favorite. Thankfully I got to see them with layne staley in '93.
@@weslittlereptilefamily3418 Layne was probably top 3 vocalists of the 90's, maybe even the best. Sad he passed.
Billy has an excellent way of letting you know that you’re stepping on his stories.
Bill Maher is the only person that thinks Bill Maher is interesting
It's refreshing, to say the least, to know an artist of this caliber is humble, gracious, intelligent, and seeks substance in his interactions as opposed to purely primal encounters with the many fans I am certain throw themselves at him. From one musician to another, Thank you for your inspiration , and being more evolved in this arena than most artists.
Well he's certainly not known for being this humble character he is now, but glad to see the growth and maturity. Always been a fan of his
Billy Corgan is one of the best songwriters of the last 30 years. Smashing Pumpkins rule so hard 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Spot on..his songs sound timeless in a way.. I can remember hearing songs like 'Today' or 'Tonight Tonight' for the first time but they don't sound like it's stuck to a year or a decade. Although I do get a ping of sweet nostalgia with Today... such a good song 😊..but really so many great ones. Best band of the 90s I think
That's not saying much. Depressing 90's music is boring as hell
He’s an actual genius
@@creamydistortionyes it is. When I hear a 90s grunge song come on I feel the depression coming over me. Terrible genre and era of music
Right bc life is honestly so great eat I wanna hear bout how great someone else’s life is. Or when I’m im going rough heartbreak I omg wanna listen to party songs to fill that shallow hole that doesn’t go deeper than 3 feet until you freak out or get uncomfortable
Billy is a moralist. Not that every artist has to be one, but he is. Great songwriter, cool dude.
I cannot tell if this is an insult or a complement
A moralist? 😂

Billy seems to have a higher maturity level and broader spectrum of experiences in respects to being a celebrity that has a positive outlook and good social values. Awesome chat!✌️❤️
He believes in God. Go figure
Love how Corgan can always bob and weave, so to speak, in interviews and even when the conversations turn dark, he stays classy and charming.
Such a well-grounded gentleman. His music in the 90s was fascinating intelligent and gave us a lot to enjoy and changed lives for the better.

I used TODAY IS THE GREATEST in my WEDDING VIDEOS...
Sorry about the ROYALTIES Billy. LOL
Always like smashing pumpkins but I wasn't a huge fan. It wasn't until about six months ago that I learned how smart Billy Corgan is and I have been a bigger fan ever since
@@brianvigneau2074 He is SMART cause he DOESN'T TALK MUCH.. Which is ODD TODAY...
Have never been a huge pumpkins fan but I don't necessarily mind hearing if it's on while I'm shooting pool at the bar if that makes sense. Regardless, I've always at least both respected both Billy and his music, and this interview really shows what a suprisingly attractive worldview he has, and he expresses his sentiments in such a matter-of-fact way, concise way, but it's with a pulse. He's just brutally honest, down to earth, and seems like a genuine, humble dude. This was enough to have me actually put 2 or 3 smashing pumpkins tracks in my shuffle lol
Great interview. Billy is not your typical burned out rock star. The guy is well spoken and has some interesting takes on where his life and career has taken him.
Yes he's the atypical burned out rock star.
🎉
not a big fan of SPz but found this an interesting episode and gave me better insight ab BC~ty 4 that is my take away
@skyscrapersx5877 he looks a little burned out but I think that's just natural aging. The guys in his 50s. He definitely doesn't talk or act like he's burnt out.
Mr. Corgan is a polite, articulate, thoughtful and interesting guest... I'd be happy to listen to him chit chat like this for hours... he's obviously a cool guy with a world of life experience and great stories to tell. I'm going to have to go back and discover more of the his music.
Bill seemed exceptionally baked and Billy handled it all like a master. Love them both.
Being a rock star, he's so used to that, lol. He most feel like the Romper Room lady sometimes, lol.
His dad was a drug dealer
Great to see. Billy is next level and a legend especially here in Chicagoland!
I actually never realized how smart Billy was until about six months ago and so I really appreciate you having him on on your podcast bill
Really? Despite his lyrics and poetry?
billy is so relaxed here, unfazed by bill, great storyteller
Billy is the man. Period. One of a kind.
Corgan's comedic timing is impeccable and a compliment to Bill's style
This was fascinating. Until now I knew nothing much of Billy and now I can relate to him so much more and appreciate him more as well. Will definitely be cranking up some Smashing Pumpkins tonight
I've been an SP fan since I was 14! Im so happy that Billy is living in reality, and has his head on straight! Too many musicians I love have turned out to be delusional and hateful. This was very refreshing to see, and now I am extra excited to see SP in August!
Connie came on the bus,and I was horrified. 😂😂😂

Great video, there is nothing like a perfect marriage or relationship, I learnt that in everything there is always a solution, 5 years ago I and my wife divorced because we were having some difficulties in our marriage but we are back together, it was a really bad phase but we got through it.

Wow, Billy on Club Random!
One of my favorite bands!!
Also, one of the best concerts I been to was at the Warfield in SF about 8 years ago!
They absolutely Killed! Played all their hits to perfection!!
BM keeps taking this to a common ground of male juveniles. Billy isn’t having it.
You didn’t need to add the word juveniles.
Hey hey heroin music Eddie Vedder gay
Bill is high and just having fun - this isn’t meant to be a deep philosophical podcast
So tired of hearing Bill talk about his penis and having fun with it. Get some class.
I'm close to Bill's age but I feel older when he talks so juvenile at times. Maybe in some ways he is mature and others very stunted. He will always think of women as bodies which is why they need to be young and nubile which is honest and fine but the fact he can't get why people marry or have long marriages is sad. I suppose though it's his lifestyle to some extent. If he became anything else, a professor, a more "average' job, he might be a different person. He was always trying to become someone else since he went to college. I hope he is more secure than he comes off in interviews.
Billy Corgan almost makes it worthwhile to listen to Bill Maher
The more I see of Billy the more I like him. I recently got back into the Pumpkins after a long break (haven't really listened to them since Zeitgeist). The new album is awesome. Glad he's still making music and I hope he continues!
Bill should try this without getting fucked up. There’s so much awkward misunderstanding as it is.
Use me as a dislike button. 👎
It's UA-cam, they're not paying him enough to take it seriously...
He should try existence without being fucked up. It's never too late...
Bill does these interviews for him not the guests or us. It's about Bill. If we get lucky and get to hear the guest it's a good day.
One of my favorite alternative rock star voices ever. Love Billy Corgan!
An ORIGINAL....
I’ve been a life long fan of the Pumpkins and all of Billy’s work, this episode has only strengthened my fandom.
Billy Corgan. What a great guest. Let’s hope Club Random continued to book folks like Corgan who you don’t see on interviews much but is intelligent and interesting.
I've been a huge fan of the Pumpkins since I was a kid in the 90s. This Fall I'm going to see them in concert for the first time. Finally!
Ah, they were the unofficial house band at Metro when I was living in a crappy studio nearby, making $5 per hour and selling albums and cassettes to eat, lol. I heard Siamese Dream and fell in love, hard. That's still a favourite album of mine, top 5 of my life. He's made so much insanely amazing music.
Billy really is one of the most talented musicians of the past 30 years for sure...He's an AMAZING guitar player and just seems like an all around great dude...Gish,Siamese Dream, and Mellon Collie are all in my top 20 albums of all time....Hope he can bring back the sound from those classic Pumpkins albums...MUCH RESPECT BILLY!!! 🫶

Huge Billy Corgan Fan. Fame and fortune has never gone to his head. Philanthropist. Business man. Just an Amazing person. Truely Loved by millions.
He’s always whined about not being adored more by his fans and record labels.

A wine here and there isn’t so bad.
Billy is real cool and a genuine person. What you see I think is what you get. I met him a long time ago before they were huge. After the show he was the only one that people weren’t crowded around for whatever reason. That night there was a bomb threat at the club so we had the option of receiving a refund but we of course chose to attend anyway. The show was stellar and the entire band was really good and we just had the feeling that the band was going to be big but who knew they would actual rock stars? When speaking to him after the show, he was just a super friendly person and very generous with his time despite having just played and sang his brains out for 2 hours.
Bill doesn’t seem to do much research regarding his guests. His drug & sex stories just bemuse, confuse & make Billy uncomfortable. They are two different animals, on two different planets.
The sad thing is that the entertainment industry is full of decadent people like Maher to the point where he just assumes "everybody" is like that.

It's so funny how none of the "rockstar" guests ever live up to Bill's naive expectations
Bill's is thinking 70's and 80's rockstars. Which, in large part, is a reputation well deserved. Many of the goons we loved in the 90's were all too plagued with social awkwardness and heightened sensitivity to really dive into those proclivities. However, I can think of a few notable exceptions lol.

In all fairness I don’t think many rock stars will come on his show and admit to really crazy things they’ve did in the past. Too risky these days. I do believe Corgan is a more reserved musician though
I don’t think he truly gets how monumental this band was in the 90s. Meh. Lol. It was a fun interview. Corgan is one of the greatest rock stars of my generation. Also, I was watching this with my mother and she knew all of the Gilligan references. We both enjoyed this episode! Win.

Billy Corgan is 6'3". I had no idea he was a big and tall person. Bill looks extra small in this episode.
I noticed that. Corgan looks like a giant compared to Maher. Had no idea he was that tall.
I was thinking the same thing! I never knew he was this big, he looks almost as big as me :)

Yet another guy who turns out to be way more impressive and interesting than I'd ever have thought. Bill brings something out in people few others can, despite his blindspots, hobby-horses and tendency to hold forth and lecture people. He's incredibly honest and a good guest rises to the challenge.
he's one of the few people who can disagree and argue with people, sometimes vehemently, and not let stuff go off the rails, at least not usually -- I don't agree with a lot of his takes, but he's always maintained his commitment to free speech and good discourse, which isn't that common haha
Billy has been great in every interview I've seen. He used to be a regular on that PBS show with the old stodgy dudes, lol.
I like the fact that Billy just doesnt virtue signal like a lot of the 90s alt rockers did about groupies, he seems consistent with his ideas, though I would certainly have done the groupie thing hardcore in his position

The Man Billy is such an intriguing person and fantastic personality, it’s refreshing to hear him speak growing up on his music that comforted me so much in my adolescent years, I don’t where I would without the music now, it helped to me survive those tormented years in life.
Adolescence was not a good time was it? I like to look back on the good times but there was darkness too .. too much in fact and music really helped

Love Bill and Billy. As a chicagoan, both mean something to us. This podcast is one of the best going right now on the selection of guests and conversations.
Why does Bill Maher mean something to us? He headlined a club I worked in here back in 1991 and was a colossal pos to everyone. That's all he means to me.

Billy Corgan is a very unique individual. When I first heard of Smashing Pumpkins I was amazed when seeing that this is the guy that voice was coming out of. At first I couldn't believe it. When seeing him actually singing the songs himself there was nothing else I can do but be amazed and have a new appreciation for him and his music. Billy Corgan is the perfect example on how you can never judge a book by its cover, cause you could be missing out on a whole world of experiences you never thought possible.
