I can listen to Corgan for hours non-stop. He's so well spoken, very sharp and smart.
its interesting, its fine.. but now i am just want to put a pumpkins record on
He can get conspiratorial, though.
His hand is red so he can pat himself on the back without blushing.
I have always liked The Smashing Pumpkins, but what I've come to appreciate even more as of late is Billy's words of wisdom. He's a very thoughtful guy, and I enjoy hearing his take on any subject
i love how authentic this is - you can see Billy has an ego, he's competitive, he has anger about things, he has insecurities, this is great, a great portrait of an artist as he navigates this next chapter. Oh and that Siamese Dream album. Time.less. Mas.Ter.Piece.
Melancholie is even better
@@Paul-dw2cl Don't forget Pisces.
The number of songs Billy wrote between Gish and Mellon Collie, let alone the quality(!!), is probably unrivaled. (Incl Earphoria, Picies, Aeroplane, singles, etc)
@@geepike I even like Adore.
@@HenritheHorse Adore was my first SP album purchases. Has some amazing songs on there for sure! To Shiela, For Martha, Ava Adore, Perfect, Pug. Eye, End is the Beginning, Beginning is the End…shoulda been on it too imo.
The Smashing Pumpkins sound is very unique amongst other bands of their era. They are definitely original and make incredible music.
all of the big bands of the 90s sounded very different from each other.. Nirvana and Pearl Jam for example.. or Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots.. Stone Temple Pilots and Smashing Pumpkins.. Blur and Oasis.. alllll verrrrryyy different. Cant say that about bands in the 2020s.
@@johnd3124 And not to forget Layne Staley, Alice In Chains.
The era is incomplete with that omission.
Rip layne Staley
Soundgarden demands a mention
@@pitpride1220 Also relative to Soundgarden the all too brief existence of Temple of the Dog.
To think that the likes of Kurt, Layne, Buckley, Cornell, Nowell are all gone but at least the likes of Billy and Eddie stuck around
So glad that HUM gets a name drop early in the Podcast. The 2020 album Inlet is soooooooo good.
desert rambler is a masterpiece
Love Hum, so under-appreciated. Don’t know why Billy had to diss them like that though
Love Billy’s introspective wisdom and Zane’s facilitation of the conversation.
It runs more like two friends talking than an “interview”.
Lots and lots of layers to Billy’s life and professional success - and these sit-downs are just awesome glimpses into the world of history’s greatest artists and storytellers.
the pure effervesence between the two of them is contagious. can't wait to listen!
This was an awesome video! I'm a gen x dude who misses good music. Hearing Billy's interview made me feel young and happy again, in a world that keeps getting unrecognizable to humankind.
I dig that interview! Mr Corgan is in sync with a lot of things I’ve been thinking for a while. Great!
Seeing this honest, thoughtful and human conversation between two great people truly gave me hope for the future…and I really needed that! Thank you

@@sabbracadabra8367 thats cute. Nice name though, Sabbath for the win 🤘🏻
So well put- the industry searches for the known, the artist searches for the unknown. One of the most articulate persons in rock
I like BC a lot, but you should look for interviews with artists like Patti Smith, Lou Red, David Byrne, Tom Waits, Jello Biafra, Dylan, Prince and Bowie etc. they all say similar stuff for years.
It is a half truth though. Music has to fit into the time period but be a little bit ahead to catch on to what gets popular.. There is plenty of oddball music that never goes anywhere lol
@@trique9776 True but with an established group like the SP, it gives you more of a chance to experiment and bring your audience with you. Same for Pink Floyd ( a huge fan as you can probably tell by my logo). Otherwise you end up like The Rolling Stones.
@@AY-uf4oz Smashing Pumpkins have not produced a good album since the 90's though

What a great interview. This was amazing, thanks
Wonderful conversation. Thank you both.
It’s amazing to see Billy where he’s at now. Just amazing.
What a great interview.
For sure. You can see how he has grown and evolved over the year. ❤
Thanks William Patrick, to another insightful hour. You've been giving us a lot of these lately. Atum is a beast, you should be proud of that album. Yes, I will miss you when you're gone, so please, overstay your welcome. 🤗
this I think the best interview I watched from Billy. Mad props to the personality of the interviewer 😁 I love his upbeat attitude
Great interview. Billy Corgan is awesome. Have always and will always love The Smashing Pumpkins.
Not sure what to say, but that was an incredible and moving interview.
What an amazing individual.
Love Billy and love these kinds of interviews.
Thanks for having Billy on here! I’ll see you 7/18-19 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Billy! Thanks for everything!
7/18-7/19 in Milwaukee? I don’t see anything scheduled for them at that time
@@Luldaasgmail It’s okay. People don’t have to post about where they’re going to be online or on social media.
Billy is a rock legend, and the first headliner I ever saw - Lollapalooza 1994 in Philly
i saw them for the first time on the same tour. Lollapalooza in Toronto (Molson Park, Barrie).
seeing them play live changed my life and my view on live music for the rest of my life. they killed it as a headlining act.

I respect how Billy never tried to sell out and keep making new versions of Siamese Dream. Always striving for change and embracing it in his current music. PS I loved the Adore album now that I’ve gotten older, you were right
@@D3epFaik Gotta make your own!
I loved it since release.
@@D3epFaik I thought Oceania was the closest they got to SD. It's a brilliant and overlooked album where everyone actually played their instruments and contributed. The live shows were also engaging.
I don't know that that's true because he has competitive streak clearly from this and he basically made a pumpkins theatrical version of ok computer himself, and that is selling out in that way, but he seems at peace with that which is honest. Whether Cobain could have turned corners and been at peace with his art in way Lennon was, and maybe even progressing further, is the thing with artists. Cobain may have been scared he didnt know how Lennon or Hendrix would have evolved, but maybe he saw himself as better than R.E.M,/the pixies, or not as good and it messed him up. Corgan is arguably more mundane, but Cornell and Cobain being consumed, if Corgan is flipside, he's at least refreshing in that distinction, because both are insecure in their way,, but to still use that insecurity as fuel if able to bare is life. Universe was trying to kill Corgan more than Cobain seems like, so Corgain wanted to be his own expression, vs being the universe's expression. Selling out is artistically valid when it is, because there's external levels of insatiability that won't be able to distinguish that, other then in moment time.
Adores amazing but everything after that? no
I don’t know how he does it but every time I hear a new album I find myself going back to the previous one and it makes sense. Then I go back to the current one and appreciate it more. As an artist still trying to find the audience, I am encouraged to keep finding those palm trees and importing them to LA even if others don’t get it. Amazing interview as always.
Love these interviews
One of the best interviews I've watched recently, so easy flowing and interesting to watch from start to finish, extraordinary human and character Billy Corgan, and the chemistry with Zane Lowe helped a lot!
5:07 if he's referring to the concert in Milan I was there. He did a meet and greet with fans that afternoon and I asked him if he knew Chino, he said no. Later that evening once Team Sleep concert was over he walked in the venue with Linda Strawberry and I told him "I asked you if you knew Chino" and he replied "I'm a big liar" 😂

Always humorous, insightful and articulate. Love listening to interviews with Billy.
phenomenal interview!
For the next 46 minutes and 16 secs nobody speaks to me!! The legend is talking
Love listening to Billy.
Nice of him to mention the support band "Amyl and the Sniffers" on the Aussie tour.Amy is so good out front.
Great of him to mention some of my fave "Goth" bands too.
Oh and btw that little pumkin band were Fkn fantastic at the little old Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
Nice touch playing the classic and timeless "Under the Milky Way" by my favourite home band "The Church".
Nice of Billy and James to chat about the other Aussie bands they know and like at the show.
Great stuff boys.
One of THE best interviews ever!! Such a big fan of both the Pumpkins and Zane. The greatest joy I have now is to introduce these great bands end their messages to my 14 year old! And then watching him take it in and falling in love with it!!
Incredible interview
Kurt Cobain discussion starts at 13:05.
The discussion about Kurt lasts less than a minute if you’re curious haha
thank you, lol!
Thank you for your music Billy ❤
That was a great interview. I can identify with some key concepts here to my own life.
Great conversation gentlemen. I love this.
What a wonderful interview.
Corgan is so articulate. I've always loved SP because their music feels so intelligent & different from all of the other bands from my generation & they continue to put out great music & given who their front man is, it's no wonder...SP has been a huge part of the score of my life narrative ❤
I like Apple Classical. Thank you and good conversation here. Cheers!
I could listen to the Pumpkins all day long in the 90's, and now I can't get enough of Billy Corgan's thoughts. Awesome!
Enjoying his interviews far more than his music lately. Hope he returns to form.
Can truly say that The Smashing Pumpkins have and have always had such a unique and true to them style. Never tried to please people, just created the art that they desired. Have continued to do so until this very day.
When Billy was a young pup, he was arrogant, defensive and full of ego. That has matured into one of the most flavourful fine wines ive seen. Now he can look back and laugh and put the ego aside, but he still has that intensely analytical and self assured way of thinking, so hearing him reflect on the art making process is phenomenal.
Hes linked to every single great artist i listen to, he's weaved into history and im glad hes alive to talk about it all.
Great interview!
To Forgive is one of the most minimalisticly powerful songs that resonated with me.
Fantastic interview
Love hearing Billy talk about music.
Billy was, Billy is an incredible person. All who will not miss him when he’s gone are simply missing out.

Big respect to Billy Corgan, I have a new found respect for him. Top bloke
What I like about checking interviews with Alternative/Grunge acts that survived, that they are finally mature enough to talk about what other generations acts talked for years, it isn't "against this and that" anymore, Corgan is joining the rite of passage of every famous Rock band that goes beyond success and failure, you hear EXACTLY the same point of views of interviews like rockers like Bon Jovi , Aerosmith, even Tommy Lee. Welcome to the club Billy...btw is great to see you smile more.
Well put.
Prolly one of the deepest interviews I’ve heard in a while. Billy the rock the real, the legendary, Zane, the honest I’ve seen you mate, great job. 👍
I completely agree. Very deep but things I’m dealing with as a 46 year old dude lol
Zane huh? Giving away the heart of the ocean musta been the source of his anger all this time.
Great interview
Awesome concert this year! Man he looks great!
I remember Billy talking about after Siamese Dream that he thought everyone really sounded like their albums not the studio fixing it so they played and played and got really good. That is why they are still still around and can still do it. He is exactly right.
Billy is always so insightful, a music titan
Listening to B & Z riffing and flowing was somewhere between mournful and therapeutic from a Gen X perspective.
It was a real treat with emphasis on REAL! ❤ 🤓
I was at the Pumpkins show in Biloxi MS on April 8 1994, the day they found Kurt's body. Red Red Meat opened for them, IIRC - we had driven from New Orleans to see the show and were listening to mixtapes for the whole trip - we heard the news about Kurt while we walking into the show. Billy was especially emotional and combative - his I Am One rant still rings in my ears after all these years. "For 27 years I have lived with pain in my heart...." before going headlong into a rant calling a out random fan in the front... D'Arcy doesn't want you dumbf*** pissant.... Emotional show, but one of the most memorable I have ever been to.
I made myself late for work listening to this. How amazing is this. It really helped me to understand Billy’s nature. Put a lot of pieces together for me. Billy is cool as
Great interview!!!
Seeing the Pumpkins in '93 is still the most enjoyable concert I've been to. Great memories.
love his honesty. hate his bitterness. hope he finds peace.
Billy, thanks for the music
I've always found Billy Corgan to be a breath of fresh air in interviews. I know some people find him to be arrogant or whatever, but he's always come across as open and honest when it comes to his art and experiences. Also, talk about someone who deserves to have an ego, given all his accomplishments.
I will say there are times where I feel like he has been overly critical about his work, but that's something all great artists do.
I remember when he brought the Pumpkins back with Zeitgeist and the heaviness that blasted through the speakers. Each Pumpkins record living independently of one another yet fitting seamlessly into a Monumental discography. I need to listen to the full ATUM a few more times but I think it's great. CYR is probably one of, if not my favorite records by Smashing Pumpkins which is quite a feat compared to what any fans call their classic, early albums.
Billy Corgan is the man! Great Interview
The Smashing Pumpkins are it. Every one of their albums is the soundtrack of my life. I love it so much.
I feel the same way.
Wow! I'm impressed by Billy's comments about the competitiveness of wanting to be at the top of the pile of that generation of "grung"music but the way he described Kurt's talent how he admired him really touched me. Very respectful .. absolutely FANTASTIC BAND LOVE that they're still going.
it's a shame because given the talent he has he didn't need that. I understand why it went wrong.
Show me on the doll where Billy touched you
@@VinceverevecniV please clarify..who is "he" ? BC or KC? And what is "that"? thanks.
@@joejones9520 he : BC / that : competition with KC
@@VinceverevecniV ah thanks! True but I guess most people who make it to that level are by nature competitive people. Im only speculating... I cant relate because Im missing the competitive gene apparently.

I always loved the pumkins. I remember seeing them on the mellone collie tour the stage was collapsing and billy and darsy got into it on stage. Ill never forget it completely nutz. Despite that they did come back out and play a few more songs.
When Billy drops the ego, he is actually a super charming guy. The catalogue is hit-and-miss, but no denying the gems this man and his various cohorts have given us over the years, and the dedication to his craft. Nothing but respect that he is still at it after making it through all the tumult of his generation.
I think my favourite artists are the ones that you enjoy them talking as much as you admire their art.
This is the best version of Billy yet. He’s driven with a clear-headed motivation and purpose and it’s great.
Wish it came out in the music tho
Good interview. It seems like these two are friends.
Love these two gentlemen.
Great interview. I really want Siamese Dream 2 though.
Yes! That's all there to say about this interview: YES! 😀
no one brown noses better than Zane.
Rain In The Summertime!! WOW I haven't listened to that in decades. What a good call!
Love him or hate him, Billy Corgan is a musical genius! Out of all the artists from my Generation, he's definitely in the Top 5 most influential.
Billy has not been influential, besides the cliche tributes of a few younger bands like MCR.
He gave up on metal after MCIS (Machina has some AIC-like sludge that isn't really metal imo. Zeitgeist has heavy guitars but definitely isn't metal.) Are there poser bands trying to sound like Siamese Dream? Yes, but who cares, I can name several bands that sound so much like Loveless-era MBV it's cringe. What's left? Acoustic ballads? 1979, which is faux trip hop?

"When Kurt died I cried. Because I lost my greatest opponent. I wanna beat the Best."
Wow...
Through Mellon Collie and In Utero respectively, so through their creative peaks, Billy was clearly better, more dynamic, and a better guitar player, better overall musician. Kurt's canonization is mostly just a product of tastemaker illusion + his death.
Billy's been speaking highly of Kurt in the recent years and I had thought he'd be the last one to do so. Recently he called Nevermind the once in a generation album and compared it to the Ed Sullivan Beatles appearance. I believe Billy wholeheartedly recognises Kurt as the best of their time and I never heard him openly say he cried for Kurt.
That being said I think Pumpkins music is more varied and deeper in songwriting, but Kurt had the privilege to have this mixture of personality, sound, mood round him and his music to become the generational icon of that age.
@@guyincognito320 billy might have been a better guitar player and musician but Kurt write better songs. 9/10 people would agree I’m sure. Just look how many HUGE songs Kurt wrote compared to Billy… Billy never wrote a song as big as teen spirit/heart shaped box
@@nordstrandmusicinternation9518 Guy is delusional
@@nordstrandmusicinternation9518 I get your point, but "big" dosen't mean better.
For example, Psy "gangnam style" is over 4.7 bilions views, Nirvana "Smells like teen spirit" is over 1.6 billions viwes.
Is "gangam style" better than "Smells like teen spirit"? For me, it isn't but who knows better to say.
I grew up on both bands' music (nirvava and smashing pumpkins), and so many more btw, but to be honest, sp music never meant that much to me, but I still have a decent knowledge on their catalogue.
Nirvana was the band for me back in the days. Kurt (and Nirvana) has written some great unique songs for sure.
That said, Billy had/has a wider knowledge of music theory compared to Kurt, which allowed him to write some unique songs as well. He (with the pumpkins) wrote songs that Kurt could never have written. I still prefer nirvana over the pumpkins but credit where it's due.
Billy seems more laid back as he gets older. The more casual yet nuanced dialog is very refreshing.
Cool discussion. Was never the biggest fan of his music but I have to admit I always find him interesting to listen to.
It's crazy to see an interview with Billy Corgan. Actually feeling comfortable with the situation and the person interviewing since you guys have known each other for so long I feel like we got to see a different side of him. that is not normally out with all the other Media obviously it's going to be different between the younger version Of billy corgan and the older wiser version but you get to see aside of him that does not seem as Egotistical like earlier interviews make him seem. I love how humble he was about Kurt Cobain and the fact of how much talent he had and it's like winning a game on technicality he wanted. Cobain to live and continue to make great music. So he himself could try to be competitive with that said music. Just like he said if you want to be the best you have to beat the best very good interview sorry for the long comments
Greetings from a rehearsal space in St.Petersburg Florida
I immediately played rain in the summertime. Great song, never heard of the band before. Now they are on my radar. Just a few decades late.
