I remember rides called RIDEE-O and DIPSY DOODLE we rode as children in 1950's. Did not see them here; I guess they were removed years ago. We went to KW every summer, I remember sometimes a sudden shower, and we would stay dry at the covered picnic pavilion near the Jack Rabbit... waiting patiently for the rain to stop. Lots of good memories :)
Wow, amazing memories! The Dipsy Doodle was replaced by an identical ride called the Flyer that can still be ridden at Knoebels in Eastern PA. Kennywood brought a similar ride back for a few years when they built Lost Kennywood, and you can still ride another one at Idlewild. To think you visited Kennywood in the decade when rides like Laff in the Dark, Zoomerang, and the Wild Mouse were there... wow!
I don’t like the commercial direction kennywood is going in but I gotta admit: steel curtain is one of kennywood’s most elaborate investments. With all the audio they custom made for that ride and adding hangman to the lift?? Holy hell I’m in love
Monongehela Monster was an Eyerly Deluxe model, ran from 1979 to 1989, replaced by the Swing Around. The Monster sat in numerous places around the park, including at the old Cinema 180 Dome site, until it replaced the Buck Rogers Rocketships, high atop the lagoon stage. The Monster riders had the feeling of being thrown over the lagoon, as they could not see the ground from the top of the ride.
This model came to Kennywood in 1994; different models with the same look had been there previously. I couldn't find a year for when this Kure was built, as it surely had other homes before Kennywood.
Remember going in the 70's and 80's and I was thinking the same thing too. Didn't that one have a retractable covering. I always went for the Swiss bobsled.
lets pay attention Kwood under Old Owners: 1997 Pittsburgh Plunge, 1998 Pitfall, 1999 Exterminator, 2000 Aero 360, 2001 Phantoms Revenge, 2002 Kids Ride, 2003 King Kahuna, 2004 Garfields Nightmare, 2005 Forget Bayern Kurve or Wipeout Returns n some 3D vr attraction before Lost Kwood, 2006 Swingshot & a Kids Ride, 2007 Cosmic Chaos & Kids Ride, 2008 Ghostwood Estate. After New Owner 2010 Sky Rocket, 2012 Black Widow, 2015 4D Theater, 2018 Thomas Town, 2019 Steel Curtain. Old Owners May not have given us two coasters in 10 Years and i know after Exterminator and Phantom Retrack no new coaster but they gave us something every year.
Exactly! That's the perfect kind of takeaway you can get from this video. But then again, management was definitely more focused when they only owned five parks. Still, though, Kennywood is really Palace's most prominent park when you look at their other holdings.
I have a question. Did they change the whole original look of the Kennywood train, or is there another one in Thomas town? I'm asking because I know they may be going for a more child friendly ride (not that the original was any less child friendly), but if they change the look of the train that thousands of people have ridden over several decades, you're going to have disputes
There's currently two trains. One remains the same as the original, but the one that is mostly used is now Thomas. From what I've heard, Thomas still uses the same mechanism as the old train.
@@amusementnow4416 Oh ok! I actually didn't know that the Whip there today wasn't the original version. Guess you could say the ride's origins date back to 1916 haha.
nootle If you think about it, it gets Kennywood a little more cash for more land and bigger rides. If littler kids want to go over 3 times, they need a parent, so the parents and kid buys season pass instead of adding a big coaster where only adults buy the season pass for. There was no space so I think it’s good that they used it for Thomas Town
Seems like alot of people dislike the decision. I'm not from the area, born and raised in Ohio, however I do plan on taking a trip to Kennywood in the next few days and to be honest a big part of that aside from the coasters that I want to ride is the fact my 4 year old son loves Thomas. I have to think additions like that make a ton of money for the park, so if it was between this or possibly going out of business down the road then I think a compromise was best 🤷♂️ Trust me I'm not a fan of change either but sometimes it is what it is man, gotta learn to accept and love something for what it is- even if its long gone.
the last time i went to kennywood the log jammer was there and I hate that I waited in line for the exterminator for 2 hours and didn’t get to go on it for the last time :(
Kennywood is a park with a rich history, so glad it's close to me.
I love this park I go there every may
same
yeah. it has a couple of good rides, coasters, but it sure aint disney world or 6 flags, but ok for PA.
Same
Kenny wood reminds me of lagoon sometimes
I love how this video covers all rides and the history of this iconic park that I have been obsessed with all my life! Awesome video!!!
TicTok997 I'm glad you enjoyed.
Thank you for putting this together. We are very fortunate to have such a deeply rich historic amusement park in our backyard. Thank you!
I'm glad you enjoyed!
Can wait for 2020, Jack Rabbit will be 100 years old. :)
Ayden Kozak StAp iT
And Millennium Force will be 20 years old. Quite the year for anniversaries.
Jeez that thing is still great
Even Leaps the dip.
And the steel curtain will be new
One of my favorite places! Time for a visit in the future!
This park holds some of my best memories. I love it so much! I miss the Log Jammer a ton though, but I'm really excited for the Steel Curtain!
First new coaster in nine years!
No water on the Raging Rapids? Actually that's pretty accurate considering how much that ride is shut down!
This was filmed in September, when they were getting ready to put in the Haunted House for Phantom Fright Nights that goes through the ride's trough.
hahahah
They should remove it and add another coaster
@@andrewcostel4821 The fact that they nixed the Log Jammer and left in the Rapids was always so questionable to me.
Exactly I went there three times in a row shut down😅

That Wave Swinger goes hard.
It got new seats this year, too!
I love Kennywood! Nice video
i like how half of the phantom’s revenge is in lost kennywood and the other half isnt😂
That obviously wasn't on purpose, but it almost fits with the area's theme. The two versions sort of make it a "lost" attraction.
i agree
I’m partial to Kangaroo. Love how you eject from your seat
Well, let's hope you don't eject from the seat TOO much! :)
Too bad 2020 was the last year for it. It's being removed.

It is a nice, detailed touch! I hope that the rest of the theming of the area will turn out well done.
Amusement Now I hope so too! I’m sure it will though with how much they added to steel curtain alone

Beautiful
I’m kinda sad they changed the train to be Thomas Town, the original train was a thousand times better in my opinion.
It's one of those things that some people didn't appreciate until it was gone.
bro nostalgia
Jack Rabbit is easily one of the best roller coasters in my opinion I love I only live Allegheny county
That double dip really packs a punch!
I know little coaster with big elements
If I remember right, the Auto Race used to be called the Turnpike. And for a while the Old Mill was called the Haunted Hideaway.
You're right on about the Old Mill. The Turnpike was a different car ride where Sky Rocket is now.
Auto ride is by kiddie land turnpike when you came in miss it
I remember the Salt n Pepper shakers, Roto, and Haunted House.....
Was the black widow seriously 2012? I really thought it was more recent, I remember it’s opening day and everything!
Time flies!
The jack rabbit is considered as one of the oldest roller coasters in the world
And the oldest coasters in the WORLD is right near us, at Lakemont Park in Altoona!
The Bayern Curve was there long before 1994.

@@amusementnow4416 Aw okay, thanks!
My wonderful Aunt Hildegard would caution us about 'the Whip'! .... 'Hold On Tight' she'd say!......Did I mention she was wonderful??!!
The Whip was actually added in 1916, not 1926, making it the second oldest ride at Kennywood behind the Old Mill
The first Whip was added in 1916, but KW didn't get it's larger, current version until 1926.
@@amusementnow4416 Oh ok! I actually didn't know that the Whip there today wasn't the original version. Guess you could say the ride's origins date back to 1916 haha.
No water on the Pattleboats?
I just realized that Kennywood is what a RCT 3 park would look like in real life
Yes, with all the layering. Look at some European parks for even more intense examples of rides stacked on top of each other!
The time that I’m in right now(2019) the Steel Curtain is open and operating with 9 different upside down parts🎢👍
I love the aero :)
You got years wrong. The Whip is the oldest. It was installed originally in 1917.
That was the year Kennywood’s first Whip opened. This version was added in the 20s and is a larger model.
