The Jazz Singer: A behind the scene's feature

- I don't own this! I actually saw this on another You Tube channel as 4 separate parts! It looks like their might be one part missing and the part's were in wrong numeric order! I attempted to put them together in what I believe would be the correct sequence! None the less a rare behind the scenes feature about the only movie Neil Diamond ever starred in!! The best part is watching the director Richard Fleischer praise Neil for his abilities as an actor, despite his lack of experience!!
I've loved this film ever since i was a kid. Considering neil diamond had no acting experience it was an amazing performance
Yes
If the critics hate it I always give it a chance. This film touches the heart and I love it on so many levels. If you've seen it, you know what I mean. Only wish he had done more movies with his music 🎶 in it...
The Jazz Singer soundtrack by Neil Diamond is fantastic.!
I loved that Neil was part of the movie... I still get goosebumps when he goes to sing for his dad at the cathedral..love you beyond Neil Diamond
Surprised by critics comments. This film was a great movie in 1980 and still watchable today. Diamond acted well in his maiden role as good as many seasoned actors Olivier was great too as expected for the worlds finest actor. Good storyline and the part of Jesse was well thought out and interpreted by Diamond similar to his own life story of musical success. Diamond lasts forever
Diamonds also last forever!!!
So long ago but just like yesterday. Thank you for this! Neil will always hold a special place in my heart. ❤️
Thanks so much for sharing this! LOVED, LOVED, LOVED "The Jazz Singer", critics be damned. I remember as a 20 year old watching it at the movies 13 times(!) and being absolutely taken with it.
The only time I've ever bought a sound track on the day I saw the movie. Awesome music.
I did that with Pulp Fiction. There was a record shop around the corner from the theater we'd seen it in. Nice day that was.
I heard "Hello Again" at the grocery a few days ago and immediately remembered "The Jazz Singer". Had to find the movie to watch again. I hadn't seen it since 1980!!! It holds up!!!
Thank you for sharing ❤️ 😊
Neil is one of the most prolific song writers of all time. I liked the movie and don't really care what critics say. Their opinion is no more valid or in valid than mine or anybody else's As a singer and performer myself I can really appreciate his creative abilities and talent.
Agree
Summer Love is a beautiful song and reminds me of my early 20s. The dreams you dream when so young of ❤️ heart,
5:02 In my opinion, the deepest song that Neil Diamond has ever performed.
100 percent.
I agreed
Thank you for this great video. I love love love the Jazz Singer ....my all time favorite ❤ ❤. Neil Diamond is a man of many talents ! ! !
Neil diamonds brilliant
One of my favourite movies which I have watched countless times. Neil Diamond was excellent as were the other cast members. I only wish Neil had acted in more movies as he has such talent and a pleasure to listen to and watch.
I just love Neil Diamond and all his music. Have seen him in concert 3 times ❤️
I've seen him 20 times! Everyone "the best concert I've ever been to,"
Critics don't like anything that isn't loaded with violence and obscenity. This movie was too clean for them. If Jess had been portrayed as an F - bomb dropping drug addict, or if he had beaten Molly a few times, they would have called the movie brilliant.,and praised his performance. They also don't like Neil for the same reason, because his music also isn't loaded with obscenity. So they had their minds made up before any of them even went to see the movie. Fortunately for me, I like to form my own opinions, and I don't need a bunch of pompous, self-important jerks to do it for me. I LOVED this movie!
Tanya Hays I love this movie and Neil's music
For some reason, it's "cool" to be down on Neil Diamond, as it is with John Denver. This is for people who have neither the brains to this for themselves nor the guts to say so.
I am a huge Neil diamond fan right now
One of my favorite movies. God is going to clean up Hollywood, watch
Hey Tonya,. I couldn't say it any better than you said it.
It's great to hear from someone who has class on this crazy place we call the internet. So thank you for sharing your thoughts!!!
Take Care,
Steve
Neil Diamond was awesome in this film, he is a creative feeler. The critics were unreasonable in their panning. Sadly, the critics are all tied to Hollywood, whereas this had a great independent feel that other seasoned performers (Arnaz) supported and who also has a concrete background in theatre and film (and the industry) although she has been shadowed as "daughter to celebrities (Ball and Arnaz). Diamond certainly didn't need an additional star attached to his name as an "actor". He did it because it touched his heart (his personal story) and he put his best into this role. Hollywood sucks, today, they can't come with anything even remotely interesting. I won't pay to go to the cinema anymore. It's all crap.
I thought the scenes between Neil and his dad (Sir Laurence Olivier) were amazing! The struggle between father & son was so real. Neil wanting to pursue his dream and his father who was against it.
Mr.Diamond is a wonderful singer/musician and songwriter..but..and even he admitted to this..he is not an actor.
O.P. you nailed it.
Arnaz’ 1st movie role. Seasoned stage person but not film actor. Just sayin’.
Agree
I think Neil Diamond did an incredible job! It was my favorite movie by him, and my parents also loved it too! He has a lot of wonderful songs in this movie. I didn't see the original movie, but this movie is awesome! The critics can say what they think. But I love Neil Diamond and he's incredible
The critics don't know squat! Neil did a great job acting here! Well done Neil!
One of my favorite movies of all-time. I think the title may have hurt the interest in seeing the film by those who thought it was about a jazz singer. But when I heard the incredible "Love On The Rocks" on the radio, I knew different. The critics reaction to the same movie I found brilliant allowed me to discount the viewpoints of critics for the rest of my life. I would never read or listen to the viewpoint of a critic ever again.
EXACTLY....I don't even listen to the critics anymore....they know NOTHING! ! !
Critics are simply miserable people consumed with envy and jealousy!
This movie was better than 95% of the total shit that's in the theaters today....
For having no acting experience I thought Neil Diamond did an EXCELLENT job and I wish he had done other musically related films. His music is iconic and unmistakable. I have been a huge fan since childhood. I hope this behind the scenes is available on Blue Ray.
Stunning movie.....I can watch it over and over.....
good heavens when this movie came out i went to the movie theater so many times that it wasnt funny i adore this movie as i am a very BIG FAN OF NEIL DIAMOND! THANK YOU
Someone saying Neil can't act is like saying cows don't make milk
I liked the film and the song "Love on the Rocks"
One of my favorite films ever, whatever the critics said. I have watched it over and over.
It’s so sad that the critics were merciless of Neil’s performance. I think that’s why he never made another movie. FYI, the soundtrack was nominated for a Grammy that year.
Actually he did appear in a cameo in the ultra silly teen comedy “Saving Silverman”. In that movie he plays himself. Jack Black and Jason Biggs play Neil Diamond fans who play in a band. Neil Diamond is in three scenes including the concert finale.
I don't take notice what critics have to say.....I decide for myself. ....well done Neil, it was beautiful to watch.....
He can sing to me any time......and kiss me as much as he likes 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Sherry Hughes Neil is very thing to me I am so love with him critics go to hall
Neil diamond response: ARE YOU SERIOUS
I loved this movie delightful movie gd acting gd music opening scene brilliant
I love and have loved this movie and the soundtrack since I was a kid. I was 10 years old in 1980. I’m a Roman Catholic, when I heard Neil Diamond sing Kol Nidre in the scene in this movie even back then it REALLY struck me. Didn’t understand what he was singing about but the power and emotion was and still is stunning
One of the greatest entertainers of all time. Brooklyn's own
I loved this movie. The Jazz Singer..pure and simple..the songs were wonderful. He can act too..he is just decent in looks and ways. Love him
This is a wonderful movie 👍 Neil Diamond was great, he seemed like such a natural actor. I love the music as well. By the way, I also have this on DVD and it's a treasure in my DVD collection 😀
Thanks for being a fan!! I just wanna appreciate you in particular for being a fan and you should keep supporting me it brings me so much joy that I'm able to put smiles on your faces and hearts.🌹❤️🌾
Wonderfull 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Nace una estrella... la más bella película de
NAIL DIAMOND.... LOL☄ LOL☄ LOL☄ .... OLL... ☇☇☇☇☇☇☇☇☇
Lo AMO.... 🖒❤ ....
WOW,"WEVE BEEN TRAVELING FAR, FREE OH WE WANNA BE FREE, HANG ONTO A DREAM....COMING TO AMERICA"
I wish Neil would have done more movies; he was a blossoming talent!
Movie got demolished by all critics when it came out - which was very unfair. Its a simple movie - with a great performance for Lucie Arnaz. The music is fantastic - and I recall that I wore out the LP record I played it so much.
WHAT THE HELLL
THEY HATE NEIL DIAMOND
WHY
@@фукс7 critics are by rule, jealous and envious folk... also, miserable.
Loved " The Jazz Singer" . Neil was awesome in this movie!!!❤❤❤. Rest of cast was great too.
Loved this great movie Bravo !! Loved the music Bravo ! Loved Neil Diamond in it Bravo ! The critics were wrong , one of his best selling albums Bravo,Bravo,Bravo !! Have the critics held their jobs as long Diamond has been singing!!! Neil Diamond was laughing all the way to the BANK
BRAVO $$ BRAVO $$ BRAVO $$ 💕
F A B U L O U S
Sadly I haven’t been able to buy this film with good quality 😢 if only they would release a dvd of this fantastic film
I saw this when it was first released along with my late wife, Still watch it occasionally and lots of various scenes on you tube some times bring memories flooding back of better times never to return 12/2020
I was 12 years old in 1980. I had heard of this movie, but I hadn't seen it. I always liked Neil Diamond and I can remember as a kid, closing my eyes and imagining myself singing these songs to a pretty girl. I'm 56 now and I still close my eyes and imagine myself being so dynamic and charismatic that I wish I could do what he does. I heard the soundtrack to this movie for the first time in 1984. Immediately, I wanted to see the movie but it wasn't until years later, on VHS that I was able to see it. The movie blew me away. The music still moves me to this day. The world is a better place because of Neil Diamond and because of this movie. My two favorite song writers of this era is Dan Fogleberg, (God Rest Him) and Neil Diamond.
My mother and I were impressed by the film Jazz singer 1980. Really enjoyed the film and song Love on the rocks by Neil Diamond. 👏🌹🙂 Larry even being seriously ill, he continued to act in films, it really deserves praise. Thanks for sharing 🙏😊
I think this movie is autobiograpic..its nearly his story of live.. isn't it..?!
Amazing.
I always thought that too. Almost his life story.
Neil sei grande ! 💖 amo te e la tua musica e la tua voce 🧡💚❤💛💙💜❤
Thank you so much for uploading this behind-the-scenes video.. I have loved Neil since I was 11 years old...my brother gave me this movie on a VHS tape. I still have it. Not only I got his CDs, tapes records, an LP but I have, also, seen him in concert several times. I met his wardrobe worker who invited me to a concert Neil gave in Fresno, Ca. We hang out with his band crew for many years. My friend also got me an 8x10 b&w, Neil's portrait. Neil Diamond has always had an amazing voice, feeling, and charisma to perform on stage. So unfortunate, he can no longer do that.
I love youuu NEILL
Summer Love...SWOON!!
Good movie, but phenomenal soundtrack...
Not crazy about Lucy Arnez but she did good.
There is not one song of his.....not one.... that's bad.....seriously
There is The Pot Smokers Song that is really horrible...the ONLY ND song I won't listen to.
Love the movie, its one of my all time favourite films, definitely in top 5, still love the album after all this time, still love Neil Diamond, have done since 1971. 😘😘 He'll always be my Neil. 😍 To me, anyway.
Thanks for being a fan!! I just wanna appreciate you in particular for being a fan and you should keep supporting me it brings me so much joy that I'm able to put smiles on your faces and hearts.💐🌺💖
Great second movie. Neil is a great actor even as a seagull in his first film he was Jonathan! My all time favorite because I too was Jonathan I could relate to his life. Greatest music ever for a film you could really get lost in the birds story and how he wanted to soar higher than anybody else.🐦💜
Muy buena película lastima que no la tengan completa en UA-cam 😭😭
Thank you for posting this! I love this movie, don’t understand the criticism. This soundtrack is great…and was the first tape I ever bought with my own money when I was 10.
"Hey, don't tell me to cool it man"!
😂❤ Sensacional
3:37 Neil Diamond was set to play Jim Jones in a musical biopic, "The People's Temple".
5:23 Neil's wearing a cowboy hat, playing an acoustic guitar in the cab of an 18-wheeler. Hundred miles down the road, the trucker says, "Tell ya hwut the problem in Amurica is...the Jews run the banks..." Oops.
Screw those critics!
Niel was fantastic! I loved this movie❤
To hear and see what I am enjoying his viability. And today with all his progress giving the audiences what they need. Yet today I have been told he can't help himself. What a let down
Love the Jazz Singer..brilliant x
Nossa que lindo, que cantor lindo, maravilhoso, gostaria muito de saber se a linda moça que está em alguns vídeos com ele, era mulher dele? ?
😊😊😊😊
We really enjoyed Neil in the Jazz Singer! Good movie!
My favorite song Hello Again! Neil Diamond could sing that song to me all night long! Just love Neil Diamond and "The Jazz Singer!"

Only one Neil Diamond
I was 15 when I started listening to Neil diamond
In now 66 years old I wish I could see him singing 💜💜💜💜
Thanks for being a fan!! I just wanna appreciate you in particular for being a fan and you should keep supporting me it brings me so much joy that I'm able to put smiles on your faces and hearts.💮🌸🌼
Was privileged to see him in person a few years ago. (Las Vegas)
I will never forget one moment of his concert! Not one moment!
Loved this movie........the critics blasted it but it was huge at the box office, I mean really HUGE, movies are made for the audience regardless of what the critics think.
I hope to see him perform live as well.
@@alleeclark3389 He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease two years ago, there will be no more live performances like he used to do. He did a few concerts at some of the fire stations in California when there was the forest fires. I mean they weren't concerts, just a couple of songs, he did Sweet Caroline and one other tune for the group of firefighters that were taking a break. He cannot perform live like he used to anymore. Also he just turned 80. The man has had a magnificent career.
What are great movie great singer i love his music
I ve just cried for my first love
Quel film!!!!! je lai vu au moins 100 fois
My mother never WANTS THAN ME MARRIED WITH HIM
It was done just right in 1927.
I hardly listen to the critics. Alot of the time they r very wrong. I usually like what they don't like. Sometimes i agree, but very seldom.
Bellissimo 😘😘😘
Que lástima que no están los subtítulos en español
Interesting piece
loved this movie
Excellent excellent
My favourite scene was the two women eyeing each other up.
Well directed and played.
There's an interview on UA-cam with Lucie Arnez that gives a little insight. Audience loved it, critics hated it
It’s a wonderful movie, I recommend it. It’s still very relevant today.
The voices and the music are all sped up!
Great movie!
Great Performance By Neil Diamond,The Best 💯
Hope the Queen and the duke of Edinburgh enjoyed it they went too the premiere
I just noticed this was from clapperboard
waiting for the DVD to come from UK !
I will start a Sam Donaldson tribute band if it kills me, and it might.
News reporter? What did he sing?
Love this movie. Music and story are timeless.

What's the difference of this film to the 1927 film of the same name starring Al Jolson?
There was also a version with Danny Thomas
Hey Neil diamond is not a drugie
In my opinion
Neil Diamond is a rock singer and not a jazz singer, he wrote the beautiful sound track for movie. Neil is the son of Russian and Polish Jewish immigrants, and grew up in Brooklyn, so that's the same. I think there is differences in the plot because it is set in 1980.
