‘I'm Glad You're Here With Me Tonight’ is the eleventh studio album by Neil Diamond, released on Columbia Records in 1977. It includes a solo version of the song ‘You Don't Bring Me Flowers’. Diamond would score a #1 hit with a new version recorded as a duet with Barbra Streisand the following year.
‘I'm Glad You're Here With Me Tonight’ was the second Neil Diamond album in a row to also garner a television special, which was broadcast on November 17, 1977 over the NBC television network. The television special received a Directors Guild of America award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Musical/Variety for Director Art Fisher, Associate Director David Grossman and Stage Manager Bob Graner. It was also nominated for three Emmy Awards.
The special was a thematic and "behind the scenes" based program with interspersed live performances. It also features a pioneering segment with one of the earliest broadcasts of what would come to be known as a music video with its treatment of Diamond's song ‘Morningside’.

This upload is the 5th in a series of live concert performances following Neil Diamond's 'The Thank You Australia Concert' of 1976 and 'Love At The Greek' 1977. In the absence of high resolution (HD) video, I have sought to upgrade (from a VHS tape) the video quality and upgrade it from 4:3 to 16:9 aspect. In addition, I have also sought to upscale the audio. Sadly, this will have to suffice until such time that the Mastertape recording is released.
I uploaded the entire show (I'm Glad You're Here with Me Tonight') a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, it was blocked worldwide as it contained the song ’Desirée’. The issue being that Gilbert Bécaud co-wrote this song. Undeterred, I decided to upload this video, being compelled remove this song in its entirety from the show this second attempt. Fingers crossed. 🤞
I have decided to embark on this mission to upload similar live performances for the benefit of Neil Diamond fans worldwide, in particular in countries where DVDs have become obsolete or are in the process of being so. - NDC

A half-a-lifetime , or more , away since this album was released here in early december '77. I recall so clearly heading down into my hometown of Whitehaven after school to buy 'Melody Maker' on thursdsy the 8th. I had heard of the news
of an imminent new album and headed straight for the small camera and record
shop long since gone run by Mr.&Mrs. Cameron , dear souls . They had a separate LP sized section in amongst a dozen or so others , just for Neil Diamond album's -
Great taste and respect that was not lost
on this , then 17-year old. About 5 copies of the album in stock , 'o.k. till saturday' I
thought. Saturday was almost always the preferred buying day - payday for the milk round that I worked on. Walked in early afternoon two days later - all sold!
Dashed to the bus station to catch a bus to the next town with a record shop , jumped on a bus just leaving and off at the next town , into said camera and record shop , bought album and back across the street to catch a bus just leaving for Whitehaven - all within a couple of minutes! .. one of those special
moments that can happen in special times . Knocked out by this album , just
5 months after Neil in London at The Palladium and Woburn Abbey the following saturday ...slept in a bus shelter in Woburn that night and then began hitching the 250 miles home.
A really cold night after a hot summers day - after a week of rain . How blessed are 'we' in the 'know' to have followed this immense icon's career . So very many stories, so much life in all of these
albums and concert memories.

As soon as I heard "You don't bring me flowers", I was taken back to either '78 or '79 when he released the album by that same name. It was a cream colored cover. The record store I went to had a poster in the window and I asked if I could buy it. The guy said I could bid on it so I did, and I won it. I don't know where it is now, but it's somewhere in my very cluttered house. I had it on the inside of the door to my apartment. He was the last face I saw every time I left, and it made me smile.

Haven't really got into his music until the beginning of this year. His lyrics, charisma and voice are deeply special to me. A lot of sadness invokes me when I remember I will never get the chance to see him sing live. Times you really wish you were older haha.

Firstly, I am very pleased for you that you have recently paid closer attention to all thing’s ‘Neil’. It will last all your day’s - if you so wish it to.
Secondly, I fully empathise with you being ‘too young’ to have been able to see Neil - live in-concert. My first was June, 1977 as noted in my previous post on this thread. My ‘ last
Neil ‘ was at The Hydro in Glasgow in October, 2017; and 25 other concerts betwixt these two dates, including Neil’s last two at ‘The Greek’ in L.A., in August ‘12 where we were all celebrating the 40th anniversary of :
‘HOT AUGUST NIGHT’ - the most magnificent ‘live’ album ever!.. And that is exactly (l.p. wise) where I started in May and June 1975, as a 14 year-young fellow - c o m p l e t e l y
e n t r a l l e d by the ALL of what I was both hearing and imaging. I have so very much I could relay to you from the intervening , almost , five decades to do with , especially , the counting down of concert dates from up to six months in advance!.. And on the night(s) the journey’s taken to be … “ in the room “. Neil’s and his band and ALL the many people who toured
‘ Neil Diamond in concert ‘ from behind-the-scenes , production standard’s that , for myself , will forever remain ‘ u n m a t c h e d ‘.
As I also noted, I ‘slept’ in a a bus shelter - no ‘sleeping’
involved - it was really cold after a really hot day … after a week of rain(!?!) Neil had promised on BBC Radio in advance of his 6 concert’s at ‘The Palladium’ ; that “ It w o u l d be a beautiful day at Woburn “. How very correct he was … ‘ B e a u t i f u l ‘ -
in every possible way . A group of five or six sort of came together at that middle-of-Woburn bus shelter at about 6 in the following morning, stamping the cold out of our feet - or trying to , including an Aussie (they turn up everywhere!) swapped recollections about Neil’s magical performance , just over 9 hours before - Neil , a l w a y s g a v e h I s a l l … and then we went out separate way’s .
As the great Mark Knopfler once said : “ Make friend’s with music and it will be y o u r friend for l i f e “.

Neil you are so Amazing singer , one in a million.. I just love you no mater what you sings. You do it with all your emotion and mean every word he use his voice is so extraordinary . You pick the right choice to do . I can't find a word to describe you .. I just love all your song . I woke up this morning and check my cell and there is a song that I don't hear yet.. " Road to Glory " and I listen to it ( 5:00 A.M ) and repeat so many times. It is nice to wake up with his song, I just love it and I know it will make my day !! Turn on my computer and listen to it and then came the " I'm Glad You Here With Me To night " and I continue to listen to it that early morning.. !!! I love it, no matter what you sing I just love you .. !!! I want you to know also that I am 80 years old and I can't stop loving him and listen to his song... God Bless Neil.. !!! It is a Blessing to have you and sing for us... Love you.. !! All Great Performance .. !!!

Hi Doug. It’s been a while and I hope all is good with you and your family. I just want to congratulate you again on a brilliantly presented video. I found it absolutely enthralling from start to finish, especially as it was the first time I’d seen most of the footage. Also fascinating was the fact that the most accomplished singer/ songwriter of all time showed one or two real moments of uncertainty and vulnerability. How reassuring is that for the rest of us mere mortals!!? I didn’t realise either that the first studio recording of ‘You Don’t Bring Me Flowers’ included ‘It used to be so easy’.
Replacing that with ‘It used to be so natural’ was a stroke of genius and made such a difference to the final version because, for me, that line is one that really stands out.
Finally I’m sure most of us have had one of those ‘I’m glad you’re here with me tonight’ experiences - I know I have and, again, it shows how expertly Neil integrates life experiences, good and not so good, into his amazing songwriting.
