    I bought mine when they were sold under the Asturo brand name 14 years ago, also for guitars and small wood projects, and I have a large compressor. It's just a nice size mini gun. Nice to know someone else likes their as much as I do.

    Great vid... been debating switching to a gun from rattle cans for a while now. I have a 27gal 3hp compressor, so that's not an issue... just always been confused by HVLP, LVLP, needles for what finishes etc... nothing worse than starting off with the wrong equipment.

  • @captbuscemi

    Great advice. I have a compressor the same spec as yours from the local big box store, it’s perfectly fine for most of my shop applications like nail guns etc, but clearly struggles pushing paint through a cheap HVLP gun. Even though the QualSpray gun is expensive (especially to ship here to Australia), it pays for itself quickly compared to what I’d have to pay to upgrade my compressor to something which can actually handle the HVLP guns. Hope that makes sense 😅! Like you, I only spray small pieces like guitars, small wooden tools and craft jobs; for furniture or larger pieces, brushes and rollers suit me perfectly.

    • @HighlineGuitars
      @HighlineGuitars  4 місяці тому +1

      As small as possible. Try .8 or 1.2mm. Even 1.5mm will work fine, but the smaller you go, the smoother the finish as long as you thin the lacquer correctly.

      You might be ok, just be careful what you run through it to clean it. Some of the water based gun cleaners have ammonia, or other chemicals and these can eat away at the cheap plating on the cheaper guns. I have heard that some cheaper airbrush manufacturers will not warranty their guns if they are cleaned with these types of cleaners. Most nicer guns have far superior coatings and this is not an issue. Chris, what did you use to clean that spray gun? I have been considering a mixture of denatured alcohol and distilled water.

    Did you notice issues after spraying waterbase with your smaller sprayit 33500? I finish about 1-2 guitars a year so I'm thinking it would probably take a while for the cheaper guns to wear out if I bought the set of sprayit LVLP guns. Plus the qs125-wb is sold out.

    • @HighlineGuitars
      @HighlineGuitars  3 роки тому +2

      The inside of the Sprayit rusted very quickly as the passageways were not stainless steel.

    Hey Chris, thank you for the video on this spray gun. Which needle/nozzle combo do you use for clear? 1.5 sounds kind of big, so I am guessing the 1.2? For a Taiwan gun $275 is a lot of money. However, this is not too bad when you consider the extras that you get (specifically the two extra needle/nozzle combos and the regulator).
    I considered one of these Qualsprays, but for that money I ended up going with an Anest Iwata LPH80. I have Iwata airbrushes and ended up sticking with Iwata Another good guitar gun I found after ordering my LPH80 is the ANI R160-Q. A made in Italy gun that can be had for maybe $150-160, but you have to order from Europe.
    Great info on compressor size and CFM. It is horrible that the big box stores sell pretty much only HVLP guns, but 90% of their customers do not own a compressor that can properly supply those with air. Doing something small like a guitar makes it a little easier on smaller compressors, but still.
    One question I have for you on your spray booth. Are you getting much, if any material sticking to the internals of your blower/fan? Unfortunately, (for the spray booth) my dust collector is one that has a filter bolted on the exhaust side. So, not real easy to bypass that and go outside. I need a down draft table, so maybe I will set something up similar to you, but find some other mechanism to move the air during paint sessions.

    • @HighlineGuitars
      @HighlineGuitars  3 роки тому +1

      I use the 1.5 for my clear coats so I can spray without thinning the material. So far after spraying several guitars, I haven’t had any problems with vented overspray sticking to the blower’s internals.

    Thanks Chris, Very informative. Question about spray gun cleaning. When you are applying multiple applications in one day (e.g. a coat every 2 hours), do you clean out the gun after every coat or are you able to keep using it for multiple applications in between cleaning.

    • @HighlineGuitars
      @HighlineGuitars  3 роки тому +3

      I clean it out after every coat. I don't want to ruin the next coat with a piece of crusty dried finish shooting out of the gun.
