The critic, Saadat Saeed is very conservative in his views. Satire is generally considered not the greatest genre but has always existed alongside comedy. As of comedy, I find comedy more complex than tragedy. Some erroneously believe that since tragedy is overtly philosophical thats why its superior. Historically, comedy was associated with the low and vulgar, thats why the perception continues.
@@ThePakistanExperience If I'm not wrong in the Shahram Azhar podcast you both said to do a podcast on poetry or something so maybe you can call him and Ali Akbar Natiq too for Urdu and punjabi literature. While for Sindhi I would suggest call Amar Pirzada and Amar Sindhu too.
@@ThePakistanExperience Even though she doesn't seem like the type to come on the podcast (generational gap), Dr Arfa Syeda Zehra would be an amazing guest to see!
Punjabi people are not ashamed of their language. Punjabi people in Pakistan are. Jinnah imposed Urdu on Pakistan and made it national language while it was mother tongue of barely 7%. Bengalis pushed back. Punjabis did not. I understand there is no newspaper in Punjabi in Pakistan. How shameful is that. But all Punjabi language new as paper owners were Sikh. They were driven out. Punjabis were neither Hindu nor Muslim but they were wiped out in Pakistan but flourished in India.
Is this the independence day special Younus Sahab was talking abou? I can't find part one probably because of the reasons he mentioned. It's very nice ua-cam.com/video/BjdUQhXj2Fg/v-deo.html
@Shehzad About the Umer Sharif example, this has been common anywhere, for example, Fawlty Towers is criticised today for being racist against Spanish people and similarly Friends is criticised for its homophobic jokes. So sitting in the present it is very convenient for us to comment on the past, but it is also a bit unfair as we have to understand that if the majority of the world did not consider something as a problem at a certain point in history then this is more to do with the journey of human consciousness or awareness. In order for the majority of the world to change their behaviour about something, they first need to be convinced that there’s something wrong about what they’re doing. And this process takes time, as we’ve seen happening around the world. Having said, the Suhail Ahmed example is very apt as if anyone is continuing to behave like this today then this is not on. I hope I’ve been able to articulate it clearly as having a bit of a mental block at the minute 🙂
@@ThePakistanExperience What I’m trying to say is, you and I may be saying a lot of things today that people five years from today will look back and criticise. But sitting today we’re just not aware that there’s anything wrong in saying these things.
From hearing this, it looks like people in Pakistan do not like to pay for entertainment. That is why be it stand up shows or classical music shows or classical dance shows or books or movies or plays - artists simply cannot make a living in Pakistan. It is not a question of population. Population of Andhra Pradesh is smaller than Pakistan but Telugu movie industry is far bigger than Lollywood. Karachi may have the same number of eateries as Mumbai but not a fraction of cinema halls or stage shows or book stores. Looks like people do not want to feed their souls, only their bodies. I remember that Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali had gone to Pakistan at the time of partition but returned within 2-3 years saying there is no audience for classical music in Pakistan. Also thank you for calling out Umer Sharif's misogyny. He also was Hinduphobic going by some of his comments.
