Here we have various combinations of 5 basic rhythms, ones that you see all the time in drum sheet music.
You should practise the stickings shown in the video until they become second nature for each rhythm.
In most musical reading situations, the stickings shown in the video will be the most fluent ones to use.
If you're left-handed, you may want to reverse all the sticking.

I don't care how long I've been playing, thank you teacher. Sticking.......
I teach music at a charter school and just recently began offering a drum set and percussion class. Your channel has been an incredible resource. I project the lessons on the board and the whole class can play along. This has saved me a lot of time and a whole lot of paper. Thank you!
That’s amazing to hear! Glad it’s proven useful. Thank you so much 🙏
Same here ! Thanks soooo much...
I myself am huge fan of this channel and I wouldn't know what to do without it.
Not only them lessons and exercises, but the written notations ...to see and to comprehend the countings it's absolutely incredible.
I mean I have no words to Express how good and absolutely amazing this channel is for all them beginners , intermediate and so forth.
I mentioned before, I cannot thank enough for all them work and efforts it has been put on here...and I learned so much thanks to this channel here.👍🙏

My drumming teacher suggested your channel and it has been an excellent resource.
Man thank you so much for this. The amount of times I’ve had to drill the correct sticking of ‘1 &a’with my students is uncountable. This helps as another resource, thank you!
Yes this is exactly why I made this video! Glad it's helpful for you as well
This is so good. I’m so happy I discovered this channel.

excelente 👌 👌 👌 👌
太棒了
Really love the rhythm exercises as a marching snare drummer.
I'm was wondering about the 5th measure. The quarter note on the count of 3. I think I would play this with my left hand. But then again I know if you break it down to just quarter notes then the 3 has to be right (if playing hand to hand)
I'm always having a hard time on deciding stuff like that when teaching.
Could you explain this further? Or am I just overthinking there?
I actually couldn’t decide whether to make that note a right or left when I made the video! I think if you’re playing on your own it doesn’t matter much for quarter notes. Just play whatever feels most fluent to you. Even 8th notes sometimes feel better played as R R rather than R L depending on the tempo. It’s only really the 16th figures that require more specific sticking.
DrumBOB you're just like me..
Prefer R LRL R LRLR 😅
❤
Hi. I just resently came across this site. I am a retired postal worker and retired Choir Director/Musician. I am trying to improve on my reading skills and my much needed rhythmic skills. Do you have a group on basic rhythm videos that I could watch the start from a beginner level of rhythmic skills to build up to higher levels of rhythmic skills. This is something that I would love to improve on. Please respond at your earliest convenience. Thank you and have a wonderful day.
Sir, in chapter 5 if i stick with
BAR 1 = R LRL R LRLR
BAR 2 = L RLR L RLRL
and so on..🤔
🙏🏻tq
New-ish drummer here, on exercise 4 why wouldn't you just alternate left-right for the whole bar? Thanks
Generally it works best if you start each beat of the bar on your right hand, to reduce chance of hands getting mixed up. Not a strict rule, but a good rule of thumb!
Does this apply only for drums or piano as well? :)
You can practise these on piano too - just ignore the sticking!
👋👋
I did learn reading music back in the late 80s while good to learn and should be appreciated you use your ears more nothing worse than analysing music that's incredibly boring if you think you have to read everything improvising is when you throw the rules out it has to come from whoever is playing
