an easier & quicker way to do the tissue paper is to crumble it really well & smooth it out somewhat; apply it in one piece & it still gives a leather-like texture
This is great and provided me with a lovely way I could preserve my NIV Study Bible that is severely worn. Since this Bible contains years of notes and info, and was a gift from my father - I really wanted to be able to preserve it without having to transfer everything over to a new Bible. Discovering what paint medium I could use inside for highlighting was an added bonus. Thank you for sharing this project.
I think I've watched this video about five times already, I enjoy it so much. Today I'm finally using this technique on my own. Thank you for the lovely tutorial, wish me luck!
I have a tip. When doing that base layer of paint mix the paint with glue. Like three to one paint to glue. The paint will be less opaque, but any tissue that is loose will be stuck down.
Your cover came out great and the sample page you showed was amazing. I'd like to see more as you work in it, if it's not too personal. I love the idea, but I'm not great at drawing and painting. I love that you can still read the scripture through the watercolor paint. Just gorgeous and truly inspirational. Love it.
Oh I seriously just love all this!! My current Bible is only a few months old and so I haven’t gotten there yet, but my previous Bible was well loved with just tons of notes and highlights and art and more art. I painted the cover and drew some Annie Vallotton figures on it front and back but it didn’t occur to do this!! I especially love the window! Well, my newest is about to be transformed! I am artistically inspired, and thank you!
Love it! I was mesmerized watching you create this work of art. I cant wait to try it. It was interesting the three colors you used to get the final color. Wow!!
So I've done this before exact same effect. I mixed my white paint with the adhesive and used a hard brush and stippled. So enjoyable to do. Probably doesn't matter how it's done, just give it a go. PS love your work Sandy❤️❤️💙
I am at the moment working on a book for someone special and needs to cover the cover of the book. This video helped me a lot and I am glad I found it. Thank you
You have created a beautiful, permanent cover that will protect the artwork and the bible within. I use similar techniques to create similar effects, and I very much like this one and will be trying it soon. TFS. To address previous comments, there certainly is a difference between the single-sheet technique and this one, particularly if using a medium-to-thin chipboard cover.
worth experimenting for.... a preliminary/primary layer of matte medium or clear Gesso before adding the inks may help prevent seep through, looks awesome, love all the wrinkles!
what a beautiful book cover you have made for your creative Bible. i really would like to try this technique. thank you for teaching this to us Sandy : )
Looks great clove PPA. My sister worked for USARTQUEST and I started using it over 20 years ago. A good thing is it is flexible when dry so works well on the bendy parts of the spine.
Nice detailed instruction, & I appreciate your comments on what worked & didn't work for you...very helpful that. I feel a lot more confident that I can do this. Thank you for sharing this!
Just found your cover video today...it looks wonderful! Thanks also for the information about the PPA, Distress Glaze and Hydrus. I don't have much access to "stuff" here in Tasmania, so rely on comments from users like you to help ensure my online ordering and postage costs are well spent! Di xx
This is so cool! I don't know if I'll be able to apply the concepts to a leather Bible, but I don't regret watching this whole video at all. You are a fantastic artist :)
Your book came out just beautiful! I love the PPA glue. I like that it dries with a mat finish. I use it on a lot of things such as gluing a paper die cut to a foam die cut, for dimension. I always manage to use too much glue and it never shows. I pretty much use it for anything that gloss glue would show up on. It does not work on foil die cuts though. When it gets on the foil, it will not come off and the flat area sticks out like a sore thumb. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed seeing the technique and how pretty your Bible turned out.
I used your technique to cover a cheap plastic executive portfolio to look like monster skin. It's just perfect for our Dungeons and Dragons groups map maker. Thanks very much for your video.
Sandy, I have been following you for years and I think this was one of your first videos. Could you share how your cover is holding up? Thank you so much!
Sandy, when I was experimenting with the faux leather look many years ago I used poster board to try techniques before applying to my book. I tried different colors until I decided what I liked. Also experimented with different glues. I love your videos and this one was great too! P.S. It is so wonderful to watch Christian artists on UA-cam and am glad I found you.
I like your verse, Ps 139:14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. Verses 13-16 are are among my favorite verses in the Bible. Love the look, its beautiful!
I am honestly not that religious. I mean, the last time I went to church was for my confirmation and I'm 16. I was confirmed actually around this time last year. So have no fear, this does not scare me when you cut a small hole from the Bible. I have good reasoning, but (knowing the type of catholics I know) you would respect my views, and from the comments, you all seem like people that would completely respect my point of view. So thank you all, and you are an AMAZING crafter.

There is religion and there is a personal relationship with the creator of heaven and earth. Hope you find Him and keep him.
