Hi, I have tried with conditioner as well. I may have to try again as mine wasn’t as soft as when I use the water with glycerin. Thanks so much for watching! 💕
Great job. You might want to look up paper bag floors too! You can also save some talking time by pausing your video then starting at the finish of that particular step. Example when you are painting the paper, tell them what to do then pause so you can skip them watching that part. Overall your video was clear enough to understand so you definitely showed e everyone how to do it. Thank you
Hi, Thank you so much! I will look that up. Thanks so much for the tip. I have been looking for ways to skip long parts like that. Didn’t think there was a reason to show the whole process. Thanks again and thanks for watching!! 💕
Ok, I looked up paper bag flooring, that is awesome! I never would have thought of putting paper on my floor. It gave me an idea for my future craft room. Thanks so much for the tip! 💕
I love this video, thank you so much for sharing. I can't wait to create a journal with this technique of faux leather, it really looks like leather and has that vintage look to it as well. And by the way, I love your voice and no you're not boring nor do you talk too much as you say. You're just fine and your videos are appreciated. You are very informative and inspirational and your sense of humor is a plus. :)
You know what you should do is? You should film for yourself for your own library as a reference point for some of your Designs that you are doing at the time. So that way you won't forget and you don't even have to say show us. It's just something that's where reference for yourself. This is the first time I've been watching you and so far so good. I love the full leather. Look, the bad thing ISIS this. Our stores don't give out brown paper bags. They're either their plastic bags or we have to bring our own. So I would love to find out where I could buy paper bags. But I also found something new. This week is you can buy the paper that you lay down for when you have when you're painting your house. It comes in a reddish brown color and I was doing a project with that this week and it turned out fantastic. It looks like leather so that might be something you might look into and I believe it's from home depot if I'm not mistaken. So check it out. Can't wait to see future and passed videos of yours❤
The is a brilliant idea! I have thought of doing something like that or keeping a project book. And you’re right about not being able to get paper bags in some places. However, any type of brown craft paper would work. Or the reddish brown you mentioned. I will definitely try that. Thank you so much for the tips and thanks for watching! 💕
Hi, Thank you for commenting, I do talk about the policy envelope and show an example of how to do it in my three techniques to make faux leather video here ua-cam.com/video/pMe2hD4HACs/v-deo.html. But I can make a dedicated video if you would like to see a full video on how to do it for a policy envelope?

The sheet at 1:58 really does look like leather! I'm definitely going to try this once I understand the procedure properly (I'm not sure what "distress ink" is exactly). I wonder why you crumple the paper so much on the other sheets, though. Leather doesn't really crumple like paper does. Many thanks for the great tutorial, though.
You are so welcome!! I use a 8 oz bottle however I only fill mine half way and use 2 tsp of glycerine or whatever 4 squeezes of the bottle equals lol. I believe 2 tsps would be enough for the whole bottle as well but you can add more if you like. I do have a video all about glycerine and how to use it in the craft room here How to use Glycerine for Paper Crafting ua-cam.com/video/sCI9LzHXw2k/v-deo.html Thank you so much for watching!! 💕

Hi! Thank you so much for commenting. I actually have a video for the recipe box and a video all about glycerine on my channel. I use a 4 to 1 ratio, that is 4 oz of water to one teaspoon of glycerine. TFW!! 💕
Hi, as far as I can tell the clear one is used as a sealer over other paints. Once dry it can be buffed to a sheen. I haven’t tried the clear one yet. I’ve only used the antique wax brown color. I’ve used it on paper for faux leather and wood projects. I hope this helped Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks so much for watching!! 💕
Loved the tutorial. Decided to buy some vintage re-inker. You can also do this technique to a pizza box, cereal box, rice box...as long as it's thin cardboard. They make for great covers for junk journals.
Hi! Thank you so much! I’m so glad you like it. Yes, you definitely can do this technique to any type of paper or cardboard material. I have several faux leather videos using different materials. The reinkers are awesome especially if you mix them with mod podge, makes them last a lot longer. Thanks so much for watching!!
Hello, I'm new to this faux leather, but I want to make a leather men's journal, BUT, I would LIKE to have leather both inside and outside, is there a possible way to make two faux leather & sew/stitch them together?? I also want to make a special closure that uses a band, with a 2 inch piece of leather with holes sliding through the band, this protects the signatures so as the papers do not tear. I've seen this on very expensive journals, and want to apply this method to the faux paper bag method, is this something that you would consider doing?
Hi, yes! I did this on my faux leather recipe journal. I made a cover to put the book into to protect it. I just glued two pieces together then sewed around the edges. As for the closure I think I understand what you mean. I would definitely try it. The faux leather paper bag is quite sturdy once it’s done and treated so it should work. Good luck! I would love to see the finished product if you would like to share my email is in the description of my videos. You can check out my recipe journal video to see how I made my cover to give you an idea. Thanks so much for watching! Question I was just watching you. Apply the Madge podge with the color for this Pho. Leather, but my question is. Would it be easier to apply it with a sponge rather than A Paint brush just an idea!?
Yes! It probably would be much easier to apply the colored mod Podge with a sponge. Not sure why I didn’t think of that. Thank you so much for commenting and watching. I’m so happy to see you’re enjoying my videos! 💕
Hi, I usually use 2-3 spoons of glycerine for about half a bottle of water use 3-4 if you fill your bottle all the way. And I only use distilled water. But you can boil it. Yes, the Mod Podge is used for a shine affect and also to protect it. If you would like a matte affect I suggest using a matte medium since even matte Mod Podge still has a shine to it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!!💕
Hmmm, I haven’t heard of it on lamp shades yet. That would be interesting. I’m guessing it would have to be done with light colors or maybe a parchment paper or tissue paper. I don’t think the paper bag wouldn’t allow any light to come through.
Do you think there’s a technique that makes a faux leather that is durable enough to withstand a little bit of weather? I was thinking about something like a fake leather panel for the back of a denim jacket. But I want it to be able to be outdoors and not fall apart easily. Maybe some kind of weatherproof sealant? Or even something that could be used on canvas shoes that can handle bending and getting splashed or dirt on it?
first, an airgun is a gun that fires projectiles using energy from compressed air or other gases that are pressurized. next great video! I am also just a new channel and not many comment so far, just a handful so it's sometimes hard to know BUT I do as you said "what i enjoy doing" and it seems to work. For myself my favourite ones to watch is when people are teaching me different techniques, like you did here, or pockets, tags or folding things, I like seeing how others put a journal together and different journals like flip flops, accordian style or new sew, things like that. keep doing what you like doing though and they will find you just like i have. have a great one!
Thank you so much! This is very helpful, now I feel I am moving in the right direction. I also like seeing how different people create journals and ephemera to go in them like pockets, envelopes and such. I’ve been really into the folios and flip flop journals lately. Thanks for watching ❤️
Great video. It's always nice to see how someone else makes the leather from a paper bag, I have done this before with hair conditioner , ut I like the way you do it as well so I will definitely try it, I haven't seen any of your other videos yet, but certainly will have a good look, thank you for sharing your knowledge,
@@ankieking5020 awe thank you! This literally made my day! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, I really appreciate it. I agree that there’s so many ways to do things in this craft, it’s why I love this community of our’s…..I’ll never stop learning from others such as yourself, so thank you for your knowledge too, I definitely will try hair conditioner too one day. Hugs, Barb
Hi, I had to Google it to find an answer. Mod Podge it not waterproof unless you have the one for fabric, however I’m not certain it would work with paper, I couldn’t find anything on that. Sorry if this isn’t a good answer, it’s all I could find and I have never tried to wash paper that was mod podged. Thanks so much for watching. Have a crafty day!!! 💕
I’m late to the party here, and I have questions. Could one use body or face lotion in place of the hair conditioner? What about treating the back side of the bag too?
Hi, thanks so much for watching!! I believe you can use body or hand lotion. I’m not too sure about face cream. Deidre from Our Upcycled Life has a video on making faux leather with hand cream. I usually treat both sides of the bag because I am putting the lotion or conditioner on while I a wrinkling it up. However, I only paint one side unless I am using it for something where both sides would show.
Hi! Thanks for commenting. I have a video of the finished recipe box and the whole process here you can check out. Enjoy! Let’s Make a Vintage Recipe Box ua-cam.com/video/2-8_ShXY47Q/v-deo.html
Hi, I am a new subbie...love your tutorial, and I am following along. I live in a very rural place...far away from any city...LOL! I order most of my craft stuff from Amazon, will have to get some Glycerine. I can't wait for it to dry, will use on my Cards. Thanks for sharing this with all of us!
Hi, thank you so much. I’m so happy you enjoyed my video. Yes, glycerin definitely makes it feel more like leather. I live in the city and still buy most of my craft stuff from Amazon lol. Thanks so much for watching! 💗
Hi, thank you so much! I do use glycerin mixed in with water that I spray on the paper bag. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching! Good luck with your faux leather! 💕
Hi, I haven’t yet but I’ve been wanting to try it. I’ll probably try it this next week. Let me know if you would like me to make a video on it. I would be happy to do that!! Thanks for watching! 💕
Hi, I use glycerine because it makes the paper softer and more pliable. In my opinion it makes it feel more like leather. Thanks so much for watching!!
Yes! It works great on the floor. The videos I’ve seen, they put a few coats of varnish on top to make it stronger. Without a varnish it probably wouldn’t hold up for long. I plan to do this on my floor when I finally buy a house!
Hi, most grocery stores sell glycerine. Also Amazon, vitamin stores like GNC or vitamin Shoppe or stores that sell essential oils. I hope that helps. If you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to ask. Thanks for watching. 💕
Hi, I don’t use anything on the other side because I’m usually going to be gluing it to card stock or something to turn it into a journal cover. If you don’t plan to use it as a journal then you can do the same thing to the other side. Thanks for watching 🤍
Such a great video and seems easier than how I have previously tried to make faux leather. I loved the one you did without the wrinkles too that really looked like genuine leather to me. This is the first time I’ve watch your videos so I will subscribe and watch more. Keep being you 🌷
Thank you so much! I’m so happy you’re enjoying my videos. Yes, I love the one without wrinkles too. I have two more faux leather videos coming soon. Thanks for watching!! ❤️
@@NeutralDIY from memory...it was a while ago, I sprayed with water then scrunched up the paper and put a layer of hair conditioner over it. Let it dry. Scrunched it up again and then used distress ink over the creases of the paper. Lightly running the dauber over the raised sections. I think I then scrunched it up again. It turned out quite nice too. I learned this technique from Pam at the Paper Outpost. I look forward to watching your other videos. 🌷

Try searching momigami (I think that is the correct spelling) there is variations of it.
New sub LOVE all the great ideas
first, an airgun is a gun that fires projectiles using energy from compressed air or other gases that are pressurized.
next great video!
Hugs, Barb
Can the paper be washed if you mod podge both sides?
@@NeutralDIY thank you for your reply. I will check her videos too, thank you. 😊
I would like to see the recipe box when you get done.
Hi! Thanks for commenting. I have a video of the finished recipe box and the whole process here you can check out. Enjoy!

Hi
I like the faux leather and have saved it!
Marietta Billups
By the way you didn't use glerseren or lotion. Or I missed it
Hi, thank you so much! I do use glycerin mixed in with water that I spray on the paper bag. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching! Good luck with your faux leather! 💕
Have you ever make a black cover? Thank you!
Hi, I haven’t yet but I’ve been wanting to try it. I’ll probably try it this next week. Let me know if you would like me to make a video on it. I would be happy to do that!! Thanks for watching! 💕
@@NeutralDIY Yes.Please❤️
Please tell me why do you use glycerine?
Hi, I use glycerine because it makes the paper softer and more pliable. In my opinion it makes it feel more like leather. Thanks so much for watching!!
Could you use this as wallpaper?
Hi, I don’t see why not. That is a great idea! People use it on their floors so wall paper would definitely work. Happy crafting!! 💕
@@NeutralDIY Thank you for your soon reply! wow, if it's strong enough to stand foot traffic, it will be perfect as wallpaper!
Yes! It works great on the floor. The videos I’ve seen, they put a few coats of varnish on top to make it stronger. Without a varnish it probably wouldn’t hold up for long. I plan to do this on my floor when I finally buy a house!
air gun = blow dryer?
This is wonderful. Thx
Lol, I got mixed up and forgot what it was called. Heat gun! Haha
Thank you so much glad you like it!
Where do you get Glycerine?
Hi, most grocery stores sell glycerine. Also Amazon, vitamin stores like GNC or vitamin Shoppe or stores that sell essential oils. I hope that helps. If you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to ask. Thanks for watching. 💕
What do you use on the other side
Hi, I don’t use anything on the other side because I’m usually going to be gluing it to card stock or something to turn it into a journal cover. If you don’t plan to use it as a journal then you can do the same thing to the other side. Thanks for watching 🤍
Wouldn’t this be a great idea for the specimen folders.
Yes! I was actually just thinking the other day. Brilliant idea. Thanks for watching! 💗
I hope you try to make faux leather this way, it is the only way I make it no matter what type of paper I’m using. If you don’t mind how did you make it? I have two more faux leather videos coming soon. Thanks for watching!! ❤️
@@NeutralDIY from memory...it was a while ago, I sprayed with water then scrunched up the paper and put a layer of hair conditioner over it. Let it dry. Scrunched it up again and then used distress ink over the creases of the paper. Lightly running the dauber over the raised sections. I think I then scrunched it up again. It turned out quite nice too. I learned this technique from Pam at the Paper Outpost. I look forward to watching your other videos. 🌷
👍👍👍💕💕💕🇩🇰
Some one I know, did this to finish a floor.
Hi! Yeah, I’ve been getting that a lot lately, now I want to do it to my craft room floor whenever I get a house. It looks so cool on the floor. Thanks for watching! 💕
The actual tutorial starts around 6:52. She starts at 2:34 if you need an ingredient list but she didn’t have a big enough piece of paper and had to start over. Great tutorial though
Hi there! This is such a cool idea. I will have to try to make some for my junk journals! Thanks for the idea. I am a new subscriber to your channel. Feel free to drop by my channel as well. Have a great weekend. Hugs🌸🤗🌸🤗🌸
Thank you! I’m so happy you like it. Thanks for subbing. I will definitely check out your channel. Thanks for watching! 💕
