    Nice to see someone using a torque wrench on the bolts, and giving the recommended torque settings. So many people just nip the bolts up with a ratchet handle. All I need to do now is wait till I can bend my knees again and do the job. Good, clear video as well.

    Looked at a couple of other tutorials but yours was the best. Actually mentioning the allan key and size was the biggest help. Sometimes knowing what tools you need is the most important.

    Great video mate, great tips love it. I am told that you should not put grease on the pinions as they attract dirt .

    I had trouble compressing the piston back, they were both locked up. Solution was removing the electronic handbrake and manually rotating in and out a few times. Then I could press them back by hand.

    If the mondeo is push button start and doesn’t have an ignition key… will the same procedure work to put the handbrake into service mode? Or will it have to be plugged into a computer to retract the piston in the caliper

      You need to take your time doing the procedure with absolutely no interruptions ( as in someone yapping in your ear or Radio on also etc etc ) Rant over thank you 🙏

      @@castrolgtx5064 I agree on that one. I skipped it short because I’d already done a video just about putting the car into service mode, so didn’t want to repeat in detail.

    Great video! Thanks.
    But how do I reset the maintenance mode?

    Nigel forscan only works with Ms Windows or the Android app version. Any suggestion for a Linux user.

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  Рік тому

      I’m no expert with Linux but you could use a Windows emulator. You could try Winehq which is open source and I think free at www.winehq.org. Good luck. If you have success then please post another comment.

    Suggest using proper grease on calipers after cleaning them fully. Copper grease has too low a melting point to be any use.

    great job

  • @BlakeCDS
    @BlakeCDS 11 місяців тому +1

    Nice job, only thing I'd reconmend is using the worn brake pad between the wind back tool and the calliper piston. You don't want to have a 1/2 drive putting force on a small surface area while twisting into the piston it may cause damage.
    Been subscribed a long time quite enjoy your videos

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  11 місяців тому +2

      Thanks for watching and subscribing. I’m glad you enjoy my videos. The end of that tool is not sharp and has a reasonable size square flat end. I was quite surprised how little force was needed to return the piston. I see your point but think there was no danger of causing any damage. Thanks for the comment.

    • @BlakeCDS
      @BlakeCDS 11 місяців тому +1

      @NigelEaland yeah OK maybe no damage so. How do you find the MK5 compared to the MK4. Is it a nicer drive, I've heard it's a bit softer

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  11 місяців тому +1

      @@BlakeCDS I like it a lot. My mk4 although a great car was frankly getting dated and I needed a push. I’ve seen plenty of reviews that say the mk5 has a soft ride and it made me hesitate until I test drove this car. It rides well, it’s quiet in the cabin and the mpg is similar at over 50 mpg on a run. The best part are the extras. GPS navigation, you can hook up the phone via usb and use its apps for say what’s app messages etc. It has voice recognition control. I have a usb stick with my entire music collection in the second usb slot. It has sensing for tyre pressure and low fluids. I even now prefer the electronic hand brake as it has brake assist for hill starts. The best part is the second hand price. You get a lot of car for a reasonable amount of money. Hmm maybe I should make a review video 😂!

    • @BlakeCDS
      @BlakeCDS 11 місяців тому

      @NigelEaland sounds good, yeah I think it would be nice to hear a comparison review for the MK5. You left out another plus, the fuel filter isn't beside the tank at the back of the car lol

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  11 місяців тому

      @@BlakeCDS see there you go something else I haven’t found out yet. Is it back in the engine compartment like the mk3? What I also forgot to mention. The service interval on the mk5 is 18000 miles or 2 years compared to 12500 miles or 1 year for the mk4.
