Hello.
I have 1 question about brake pads.
I changed rear brake pads but constantly have annoying sound( like metal to metal but rumbling ).
Mechanical guy sey this is normal because its pads is new.
I dont believe so much but i must to ask you ,it's normal or not( sound from brakes pads)!?.
Thanks
Yeah, for the first few days I'd say its pretty normal to have some sound, It should go away over time. If it seems like its making more noise than you think it should, try having your rotors resurfaced.
One little note for next time: the pads have to slide in and out (braking and releasing brake power). It's best to put just a *touch* of anti-seize grease on the interface between the caliper holder and the pad, where the pad's guides extrude on either side, to guide the pad at the right place. Not too much, you don't want it to smudge the pad or the disk.
Also, a manual tool for actuating the mechanical side of the electro-mechanical brake (clockwise) instead of a power tool. You both risk hurting yourself (yep yep yep) and doing damage to the small gear in which you put your TORX 40 bit to turn... A ratchet or T-40 screwdriver and manully turn... It 's a lot of turns, but not worth the risk of damage to speed things up with a power tool.
this is one of the rare videos where everything was said briefly and to the point. Thank you buddy!!
You have just genuinely saved my bacon bro
Just did this on my 2017 Tiguan. Worked like a charm! I had OBDEleven specifically for this... and of course got an error message when trying to retract the electronic parking brake the "correct way". Thanks for the backup plan 🙂
This worked brilliantly whilst doing my discs and pads on my 2015 tiguan today. Thanks for the informative video 😊
Really good video helped me a lot. Just one thing to note before doing this job you should buy the small T30 screws and replace them as mine where really rusty and hard to take off
Love the video.
Absolutely hate electronic park brake.
I have an OBD scanner that’ll do this, but your method is actually faster.
Appreciate it.
Great Vid!! A 2 hour job for free 99, gotta love "do it yourself" mechanic's!! Much appreciated 👌🏽
I love you with all my heart!!!! Lol If it wasn't for this video I don't know what I would have done. I had everything torn apart and was stuck cause I couldn't compress the piston! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this and make this video!!!
Just used it on audi q3 2020. You are my lifesaver.
Thank you for the video bro. Same setup as my 13 optima. Doing the rear pads today. Really appreciate it
Glad I could help!
Waow. Short, presis and just the right info, no jibb jabb. Thank you for this short and great info vid
You save my day. Works like a charm on tIguan 2013... thank you.
You're very welcome =) Happy to help
You Sir are a life saver, had my car all jacked up new pads in and couldn’t work out why the piston wouldn’t just push back like the fronts. Did a bit of Googling then went out and bought a caliper wind back tool which still didn’t work after a lot of messing around (the circle plate didn’t fit my vehicle) and found several videos on YT talking about using software to retract the piston but eventually found your video. Thanks to you the car is now back on its wheels and usable again
Best video I’ve seen so far! Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you!
+1
Wish I would’ve seen this earlier today. Would’ve helped eliminate a world of frustration.
Yeah, the driver's side was super difficult, I wasnt about to struggle through the passenger side too lol. But now we know!
Great tip! With no computer this tip works and saved me!
Glad I found your video, got a brake job to do tomorrow. Thanks
very nice video. Saved me a lot of time. no need to get an ODB II to rewind the e brake.
Brilliant job. I was swearing a lot, then saw this. Saved the day. Cheers matey 👍
Haha, happy to help. Swearing helps too =P
In Mercedes 2015 CLA250, you can go to instrument cluster and scroll down to PADS REPLACEMENT and press OK. The caliper piston will be retracted by the motor.
Thats incredibly helpful!
We used this method on my neighbors Audi. Thanks for the video. appreciated.
No need to remove the motor. Remove the connector and apply slight pressure with a clamp. Then attached a 9v battery to the motor with clip leads. If the motor runs then strains, reverse the clip leads. As the motor runs tighten the clamp slowly to retract the piston. When the motor stops, you're done. Just did mine and it's a piece of cake. After pads are replaced, with the engine off, pump pedal slowly and in a few strokes it will be firm. No need to bleed as the fluid circuit was not opened. Cycle the P brake a few times and you're done.
I hadn't even thought of that...Genius. That would have saved my knuckles haha. Thank you for your comment!
Is this same procedure for 2012 Audi Q5? Ty
i use 12V
Just amazing 👏. After going through your video i have replace my car seat alhambra 2013 rear brake pad. Thanks..
Good video mate, smashed it!
Great information a great help, thanks for taking the time and effort to put this out, thanks again for sharing.
You're Welcome =)
You have saved me with this video! I was getting so frustrated!
I was too! Such an annoying feature to have to work around. I'm happy that this helped you =)
Thanks for sharing this. I will definitely try this and update you on the results. Shalom.
Thanks man , that’s a life saver .
Happy to help!
Brilliant information, I will use this on my tiguan. Cheers
Saved me hours of frustration 🙃 thanks
Simple yet elegant 😌
Exactly =) Thank you
great job! best way to do it to assure it's done right!
Thank you =)
After doing this would you pump the peddle a few times then apply the handbrake switch on and off a few
Times to calibrate it ?
This was very helpful thank you soo much for this video.
Thank You Thank You. All great suggestions .I 'm going to try it.
Excellent very clear video,thank you.
Exactly what i needed . Big Thanks
Happy to help!
This was a way better solution then connecting a 12 V source.
Haha, That would most definitely be a bit easier!

Nice video. Thanks for the help.
Thanks a lof!! That's a very good and helpful film
You're welcome!
Awesome my friend! Virtual beers to you for saving me huge amounts of grief and time. Thanks so much. Cheers, Dave
Glad I could help! Cheers
@@X5Overland Spoke too soon! Dash says parking brake owners manual and can't start car. Light on parking brake is flashing. Hmmm
Oh no! Thats not great news. Hmm. Can you pull the ebrake? Does anything happen?
@@X5Overland I think the battery went low. Left the ignition on. I'm charging the battery and hoping that was the issue. 80% sure that's what it is
Yup, that was it . All good now! Thanks a gain
Thanks, this really helped
I use to do what you did in this video, but just unplugging the electric parking brake connector harness and i would just connect 2 wires with 9v battery connected to retract the piston instead of removing the parking brake motor
You can do it with a 9V? That is amazing information, thank you!
@@ch0wned yeah bought a small alligator wire clips and 9V battery will retract the electric parking brake piston :))
Best one I’ve watched
Thank you =)
great video didnt start off looking to adjust a electronic hand brake it just came up but great video anyway
Haha, Thank you =)
Thank you so much for the information
thank you very much made it so easy god bless you!
You are a god send! Thank you so much!
You are very welcome!

Life saver thanks for the video
Many thanks for the tip!
Thank you 🙌🙏 this video really helped me out on a job I was doing
Happy to help!
Jesli nie masz scanera to podlaczasz baterie pod zaciski 2kable i cofasz bez rozbierania a potem cofasz tloczek prościej i szybciej i masz gwaracje ze ow oring będzie nadal szczelny pozdro
Thank you so much for your video 😉😉😉
You are Ace! Thank you a lot
Thank You! 👍
That is a good work. I like it.

Good vid thanx
Exellent job sir😊😊
Thanks for yo videos, next time you should use globes.
Nice vídeo, i think the eletrónic brake is look a like as the Renault, i have a Megane Mk3 and have tried to replace the rear pads but i can't do it because the eletronic breake System. Bro u save my day. Watch out you knuckles 😂
Glad we were able to help!
Good advice. Would this procedure be the same on a 2013 Passat Alltrack? It all looks similar. Thanks.
very good idea. Thanks
Hope it helped!
Gotta love these weekend mechanics 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
=)
Honestly THANK YOU for this video. Holy crap a life safer
Good job you've done, and sorry for your hand.....
Mate the quicker way around that was to start the engine realise the parking break then push back in life Is a little easier than taking all that apart and causing more work for your self
There’s an easier and safer way to release the parking brake. Just disconnect the electrical connection, take a 9 or 12 volt small battery with two cables and connect them to the receiver pins on the parking brake module. This way you avoud any potential damage by removing the module from the caliper. You can reverse the polarity if the piston starts to come out.
Yeah, a lot of people have commented that. I haven’t done it myself but it sounds much easier haha
Thanks wery wery much. I will try on my Passat b7 2011
I find this way easier. You’re literally removing two bolts and rotating a screw mechanism that drives the piston. It’s more simple than finding a 12V battery and wiring it up. If you got far enough to remove the caliper you probably have the tools to manually release the piston.
I will try on my 2019 Jetta?
Thanks for the video. I did this but I have a problem , I saw that you removed the motor housing pretty easy, just pulled on it, I had to pry it open, was pretty hard to take off, the bolts also, there was a lot of white dust coming off. Did all things good but now I can't reassembly it, that o-ring is a pain in the ass, the housing doesn't get past it and I also see that the o-ring is pretty loose.. tried lubing everything up with silicone grease but nothing. Any suggestions?
Do you believe it will work with a mitsubishi eclipse cross??? I has pretty same type of electronic brake module as in your video 🙏?
G'day Nick. First up, nice video. Good camera work, clear and to the point. Refreshing, after battling to watch so many You tube vids that are - basicslly unwatchable. Thanks.
My question - you have chosen to mechanically wind the worm screw back in, with your drill. Cool. The manufacturer (via a diag. tool) suggests retracting it electrically. Do you think, rather than unbolting the motor, it would be possible to unclip the wiring to the motor, and apply a voltage to its terminals, to achieve this result - without (a) having the diag. stuff, or (b) having the various torx bits etc. that you have used in your vid? Any idea what DC voltage it would need? Thanks mate, from Australia!
There have been several comments suggesting that very thing. I have not tried it myself but I can't see why it wouldn't work. It seems so much easier as well. I would assume that it would take a 12v DC power source but you could always start with a lower voltage and work your way up =) Best of luck!
Thank you sir
Good job
Thanks so much
First off, a great bodge!! Just do be careful as the OBD also recalibrates how tight the motor goes when handbrake is applied so using this method, there is a small chance of cracking your rotor. Cool hack though
Wow, I've never heard of that happening! That would be awful lol. Thanks for letting everyone know =)
Thank you so much. I was about ready to start hitting my car with a hammer it was frustrating me so much
Life saver
Tank you! Amigo 👍
You're welcome
Fantastic video
Apply 12vdc in the reverse polarity to the parking brake motor. This is how I do it on my 2008 Audi S5.
If I had to do this job again, I would definitely do it this way haha.
Top video👍👌
Thank you!
Do you need to wind back the piston or just compress with a c clamp? I’m trying to understand why sometimes people wind it back but sometimes c clamp works
