By far the best version of this out there. I could spend hours working on this (and I did)! Nothing Keith plays is particularly hard once you have it figured out. The genius is in thinking of it!
This is so perfectly stated. I've been playing for only a year or so, at 60... And I got this whole intro learned in a couple hours. On my acoustic. Not exactly fluid to stand up and play in public but I got it pretty good. But like you said, how does someone come up with these licks???
I haven’t heard anyone really dig into it this way. This is fantastic. I’ve been trying to show my son this tune correctly. You’ve nailed it and really really well. Thanks! I’m a bass player for 30+ years. Pretty good career doing it. Never had an interest in playing guitar. Son is autistic and doesn’t seem to be able to tolerate lessons with a teacher other than me. So thank you
@@cliffspringer8084 sadly there are, people think he's overrated and could be replaced by anyone. People don't realize how much thought he puts into each little lick and riff
Good job brother..I use to be able to hit all those notes when I was younger. I had a motorcycle accident and my left hand has sustain some nerve damage. I can still play open chords. But my fingers go numb sometimes. But I love checking out the older tunes. I will never stop playing something tho. I play whenever I can. Good job . You really know how to teach
Yeah, i have a few injuries and arthritis, just can't play like when I was young. Kinda considering a different instrument to compensate. Maybe keys? I'd love to play drums bur fitness level is...not adequate lol
Since I discovered Andy I've learnt more in 4 months than I have in 30 years of trying to get better. You have a form of genius. I've noted that no matter whose song you are doing, you nail it like that guitarist. You do Neil Young songs and we could be listening to Neil. Same here. That is an extraordinary skill. Your selfless service of the guitar and what it does to enrich the life of us guys out here scattered about the world. All done anonymously with not a hint of self promotion. I suspect you are a better bloke than guitarist.
I'm rekindling my teenage interest in playing guitar when I was just playing in a garage band. I'm amazed what you can learn on UA-cam. I've learned more in a few weeks than I ever did in the five years I spent living on my guitar. But you mention Andy. This guy sounds like Rick Beato. It's not him? Andy who?
Grown up in the sixties and getting in to music since then, now in my pension period, left with a intense desire to learn songs from that time that i couldn't play then, I'm so happy with Shutup&Play's Andy, the best teacher anyone could wish. So I fully agree with Philip, it has filled my life with a dream, I never could have fulfilled without this excellent teacher. I'm connected with him in his enthusiasm for the music we all love. Thanks a thousand times. Unfortunately I'm not able to donate to Andy because I didn't succeed in getting financially independent during my life, sorry for that, If I had money, I gave it all to him.
Midnight rambler Live is another track nobody seems capable of tackling..but we all know you can. Wanted to play it right for 30 years This is awesome thank you..its your humble demeanor and attention to detail..you're an amazing instructor.
Such a great lesson! One of my favorite thing about your vids is that you have "normal" hands and fingers yet are able to play anything, reach any note, any fret, etc. Your little finger is really just a little finger, not something that looks like a yard stick. On some of these lesson vids you see guys with outrageously long fingers and you think "No way I can play any of this without that reach". Not true, you prove the case. Thanks for the vids you do, they are awesome.
The more i learn this song the more i realize that K Richards is a musical genius.... I could sit and write riiff after riff for 1000 years every day and i would never come up with anything even nearly as brilliant as just this one song..
I used to just fake my way through this. I love seeing how to do it right. It's taking a lot of work but I'm finally getting it down, Thank you for the lesson.
There’s a lick in the solo that nobody on UA-cam seems to be able to get right. Right at about 2:02 on the track. I play what I hear and do my best with it. You really nailed this one thanks for the lesson

LOL you gotta be as good as Keith to start just playing it how you like, I deeply appreciate you showing us how he laid it down on tape so we could learn it first. Always loved this tune.
I've alway wanted to learn HTW as it is one of my favorite Stones' songs. Keith's work is genius, but for me, you've unlocked a whole new world for me with the open G tuning, and suddenly it became easier. If I can play it, ANYONE CAN! Thanks!
Great lesson very easy to understand. Your explanations make it a lot easier. Only thing I sat looking at the head of your guitar for a long time thinking “I’ve never seen a Les Paul with a blue headstock “. I know it’s the lighting
I never had to confidence to play music until this guy and a few others…. You guys are awesome! S&P teaches really good detail in a way I can relate to…. Now I play live music and even sing occasionally it just feels so good to play tunes in front of a crowd (okay very small crowd) but I wanted to do that and I may not sound great it is still pretty awesome and these sites make what seems climbing mountain just a long hill.
Been playing this in the band I play with for a long time. I learned a LOT from this. Those little fills and the harmonics are bad ass. Thanks for this!
Great, man! Thanks! 10:14 👍 It is essential to demonstrate the count of time in bars. Thus, in this way, it becomes easier to absorb learning and also to be situated in the execution of the instrument. Whenever possible, do it that way. Thanks for this lesson.
Great lesson video, thanks for posting this video. Just saw The Stones in concert and they played it. So I wanted to check out your YT channel to learn how to play the song
Thanks for posting... been playing this for decades just as you show here... someone showed me this tuning back in the early 80's... the guitar makes a lot more sense if you simply bar a major chord. This really should be standard guitar tuning...
Never thought I’d be able to play this. Got it 95%. I’m playing it on a $250 Squire Affinity Tele I just bought and it never goes outta tune! I play it more now than my American Strat. 😂
Honky Tonk Women is really bound up with Keith in many people's minds. It's only a few weeks ago that I heard that Mick Taylor had much more to do with this track than I'd previously recognised. You can hear his influence I think especially where you point out the use of the Mixolydian scale at one point. I was told it was Taylor's idea to rearrange Country Honk in this way to create Honky Tonk Women and whilst I initially struggled with the idea, it now makes more and more sense to me.
Wow amazing song lesson , I’ve met this dude once he looked like total nerd he knew all the RollingStones songs on standard tuning he showed me a few Classics on guitar but there is only so much I could remember when I got back home . Thank you

@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials Hi, I'm really having trouble with the part at 5:36. I can't seem to barre the A chord and also do the middle and ring finger bit. I either mute the D with my ring finger, or the barre moves and gets muted. It feels really impossible, and I'm lost as to how you do it so easily. Can you give any tips as to hand placement, or just any tips in general to make it easier? Thanks.
You’re one of the best on UA-cam. Whenever I want to know how to really play something this is where I come. Is there anyway you can change the perspective so that the camera is looking where you are looking? In other words like we would look at a guitar when we are playing? I don’t know if you can flip it around and flip it upside down in an editing thing or what I’m not that good at that stuff. But I know I usually watch them holding the camera at my chest upside down so that I can see it from the players perspective.
Great job. I hate changing from standard tuning, so it make it harder on myself, but I’ve been able to transpose - so to speak - most of this to EADGBE tuning. Would love to see your take on playing it that way.
@@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials I’m with you l, but I’m not gigging, so it’s still the song, just slightly different tones. Plus, Keith relies on the D, G, and B strings in several of those riffs, and their tuning doesn’t change when you shift to Open G.
Take the top E string off to really do it Keef style. And I’m not sure he bends in the intro lick. I think he slides off from the 4th fret. Could be wrong though.
