Out of all the reviews I've seen, you are the first one to really talk about Free Mode, I myself own the game and as I ran into the same Easy story difficulty, once I put free mode on Strong, clearly that wasn't messing around lol, the change of difficulty is huge, I am not a racing game kind of guy tbh, but I really enjoy this one, the music is fun, I'm a huge ARCADE kind of guy and this game feels like an arcade game, nothing to over the top, just fun and the mini games are a great edition, I love mini games a lot so to me this is a fun experience.
THANK YOU! I was wondering why *no one* ever mentioned Free Race mode! It is clearly there, and as I said, where the difficulty of the game is! It's strange that it's there and not Story mode too! And you did EXACTLY what I did when I found the difficulty setting - and I got whooped HARD! Glad to see you're enjoying the game!
I just realized that this game is Senran Kagura mixed with Mario Kart: Double Dash, Crash Tag Team Racing (the shooting mechanics, specifically), and Wave Race. I should play this one day! 😂
I haven't played CTR yet, but I think you're very close! It doesn't have the wave dynamics of Wave Race, but apart from that, I say that's a fairly apt description!

I played senran kagura on steam and I think these devs always made solid titles gameplay and "culture" wise xD I might get this one later.

So even this got an anime too!? Wow first Sakura Wars and now this but at least this game along with the anime are able to stand on their own without needing the other at times. I am getting the feeling a lot of anime games are either too easy are normal and hard or have huge difficulty spikes that make no sense because this has been happening a lot in recent years. I love the fact that one of the characters pulls out a rice bun mid jump and gobbles the thing in seconds! Though out if curiosity, does it feel like your going fast in the game, from watching it looked a bit on the slow side?
It is a bit on the slow side, and I was at one point considering mentioning that. However, when you play Free Race, with the AI’s aggression turned up, you’ll barely notice it because you’re too busy fending off enemies! That’s really where the game’s gameplay shines!

How different do each of the courses feel? Based on the limited loop of gameplay footage here, the backgrounds look different but the courses themselves look fairly similar.
From an aesthetic standpoint, the courses do feel a bit similar especially in the early parts of Story mode. However, there are tracks that happen at different times of day, which makes the tracks look and feel a bit different. The gameplay I chose was a combination of gameplay taken from the Story mode as well as Free Race mode with the latter representing how aggressive the enemy AI can be and the former to demonstrate how easy it is to just win, so I was more focused on representing that than track variance, though I did try my best to do so!
The customization in this game is better then the senran kagura games which is a surprise. It has some cute swimsuits and you can change their skin color as well.
