Wow, that's a bizarre law. In Australia, eyelash tinting is a standard procedure learned in beauty college. All qualified beauty therapists are permitted to perform lash tinting. We even got Refectocil in a bunch of different shades in our training kits, so they really wanted us to practice! There was a huge emphasis on patch testing though, so safety was a priority with the tints. I have used the consumer kit from 1000 Hour, but I personally don't think these kinds of products should be indicated for at home eyelash tinting. I'm sure they're 'opthalmologically approved' if they are available.
The FDA has some pretty weird standards for cosmetics.

Yeah, my mum did her training over 40 years ago. Also in Australia. She had to learn to tint as well. She tinted my brows and lashes since I was 12. Now, I do it myself, I've never had any problems. The only downside, it annoyingly takes 15mins out of my life a month!!!

I live in Australia and I used to get my eyelashes tinted on a regular bases at a beauty salon. About a year later I started to see very faint black floater like tiny spots if I looked at a white wall or the sky. I went to an eye specialist and he explained to me that I had floaters but I never did mention that I use to get an eyelash tint every six weeks. I remember it use to sting like hell for the fist minute after it was applied. I use to use the kit at home years later. That was back in the 1980s and 1990s. I would never tint my eyelashes now my eyesight and eye health mean everything to me. I am a natural blonde and my eyelashes and eyebrows are golden in colour. I think they look great the way they are. I only wear a tinted moisturiser now no other make up at all. 😊

I'll try to get some of the stuff we shared in the live chat into the community tab-- so everyone can see some of the discussion.

Super interesting topic!! I never knew it's not allowed in the US. Here in the UK stylists and cosmeticians are actually very strict with the patch test

Omg! I am so glad you chimed in . I was interested in hearing how it was done in the EU! I am going to post your comment on my FB page so others can see -- so if you have anything else to add, please do! One thing I like about making it is legal is that you could require a patch test and maybe even a disclosure about the ingredients and risks -- that way people are well informed BEFORE they do the procedure and you can enforce rules so practitioners can do this procedure as safely as possible. You will still have the rare instances where reactions happen, but at least consumers would accept the risk and there could even be practices or procedures for reporting adverse reactions quickly and getting those injured some medical attention before it becomes too problematic.

Around the 80s my cosmetology teachers bud had brow and eye lash tinting but it went wrong and it turned her friends brows and lashes blue. In my state brow tinting is illegal but not enforced so every salons do it. Basically state law has more power but it’s unlikely it will ever be enforced.

OMG Claudia! I I felt sooo guilty calling a salon to see if they did eyelash tints, knowing I had no intention of really getting one. I did want to share though that eyelash tinting is pretty easy to get done -- even in a place where it's considered illegal. The bigger objective of the video was to explain that people should be aware of the risks of what's in eyelash dye and other consumer products, that way they can assess risk better. Also, if companies and brands are more up front about risks/ingredients, then people can't really say they didn't know when they do get injured, and we own that responsibility. Also, something I didn't mention in the video is that I'd like to see more innovation in cosmetic ingredients. This of course, takes time. But encouraging industry to explore new ingredients/alternatives is always a good thing. We should always try to reduce risk where possible. Sorry, that's a lot of jumbled up thoughts. What did you ask about again?😆 Haha. Just kidding. Love ya Claudia! ❤️

The burning question is: Did you go for that tint? :-D (or will you?) :-D

😆😅😂 I canceled it! I felt like a total criminal for even making it! I am not a big fan of dyeing my hair a lot cause it occasionally makes my scalp feel itchy -- so I don't see me doing lash tinting any time soon. However, if I did do it, I would probably want to document the experience. Why? I dunno. I guess it's just what I do ;)

If you canceled in time for anyone else to jump for that time instead, there is no need to feel bad about that ;-)
I time to time caught myself watching procedures (or other stuff people do to themselfs) even if I am not at all interested in trying that, but do not force yourself into something that will weight more risk for you than gain. (In terms of future not itchy eyes
