Biréli Lagrène plays an improvised solo piece. This is from volume 6 of the lesson series. In this lesson, Bireli improvises 16 pieces on the spot to showcase his different influences when it comes to solo guitar.
Biréli Lagrène is a French guitarist and bassist. He came to prominence in the 1980s for his Django Reinhardt-influenced style on the guitar, as well as for being a jazz fusion virtuoso on the electric guitar. He often performs within the swing, jazz fusion and post-bop mediums.

Just plain ridiculous this guy is so good, arpeggios, diminished scales, crazy chords progressions played at lightning speed with accuracy, flavor and thought. This guy was born for this, few if any can played better. Obviously gifted beyond normal means he's a true magician, the likes that is rarely seen. Maybe the best ever, only a few guys in the world can play at this level.

It’s great to read so many positive comments on Bireli here.. I think he’s greatest player alive He literally has it all -but best thing he has so much fun.. his music has so many unexpected surprises he is a joy to listen to and seeing him live is a religious experience. Yet... He is never it seems considered for top 100 guitarist rankings by rolling stone for example. It seems odd that the guy who clearly should be number one it’s not even listed in the top 100. At least from all the polls I’ve seen I’m always looking I never see him mentioned. So let’s enjoy our hidden gem I fucking love this guy and try to copy him all the time it’s difficult but worth the time

    • @olivegog78olive65
      @olivegog78olive65 3 роки тому

the top 100 ranking by rolling stone is a joke.
what is a pity is that millions of persons take that as the truth.
I remember one day a guy telling me "Clapton is one of the best guitarist ever".
      I disagreed.
He told me "who are you to disagree. this is agreed by ALL experts"
I asked then the guy to show me performances of Clapton demonstrating its affirmation.
He could not actually do it.
Then I showed him some stuff from Sylvain Luc ... and that guy answered
"I do not like that, it is too complex and elitist"
and me to answer "And ???..."
Later on, I did quite the same with Hendrix.
People need myth and do not care of the reality.
the positive of that for us is that you can still have the opportunity to listen such huge talented artist as Bireli Lagrene in affordable and nice places (in France)
People are not educated to music. This is normal that they prefer simple musics.

The secret to his genius of course was the notes he chooses but one big factor we forget it’s his right hand technique. I’ve been playing over forty years and when I practice now I work so hard rewiring my tangled up picking my right hand technique is weak. It is Based on down strokes to really study how to sound like Bireli you need to understand how he’s picking unless your experience Gypsy Jazz guitarist you’re probably picking A very different way as I have been anyway look at your right hand there are some videos out there how to change right hand technique it might set you back a year or two but overall greatly help you’re playing. Also from transcribing several of his solos, each one is a clinic. And loaded with arpeggios That I’ve never introduced into my vocabulary in 40 years. So now I’m trying to introduce those with the proper right hand picking technique. It’s a fun way to spend this quarantine time. Relearning guitar, It’s difficult and frustrating but it’s worth the effort. Peace love and good health and safety great guitar playing to all my musician brothers and sisters out there. Transcribe Bireli solos!!! So revealing 👍
