Yes, forgiveness is not given to make the receiver "feel better", i mean you can never be sure if they even regret what theyve done, forgiveness is given in order to let go, to have some closure and peace of mind in the matter. And because of multiple other reasons. Being able to truly forgive someone is a skill, something that most dont have naturally and it needs to be learned. Its not as easy as people would like to think.

Same . I wouldn’t carry hatred either . But forgiveness no less friendship ? Not in a million years . The fact is , some people are pure hatred , pure predator without an ounce of care or empathy for others . They possess lizard brains and have no care for anyone except maybe themselves : Some don’t even value themselves and will take out and torture as many as they can on their way out . Those are the truths that some absurdly “kind and gracious “ people who “believe in the lord”, are unwilling to accept the fact that some peoples childhoods & entire lives have been just one long lesson in pain and they sometime reach a point in which they choose to unleash all their life’s lessons on whomever crosses their path . What a waste of 3 lives .

Laughter and joking . I always imagined he’d killed another person and was laying low or crossed the border . When he returned ? He demanded discipline from the kids - whose laughter and joking were lost in his presence . That man’s image is burned into my memory and I wouldn’t want him to ever think I owed him a dime or looked at him the wrong way . I’m thankful we parted ways without any display of just what he was capable of . This is why temperance should be practiced more. Temperance is not just mercy towards wrongdoing but a self-restraint not to let your emotions get the better of you in some anger fuelled need for Justice, as well as recognizing that certain people shouldn't be forgiven and to walk away from them.
Martha as good hearted as she was, was extremely naive. People can change, but there are some that should never be forgiven, especially if they taken the life of their own mother.
I don't blame her in trying to cast aside hatred, but there are better ways to do it. Travis really went past the line of being human into something less than in a morbid thought. Regardless if it was drugs in his system or not, the man was still willing to kill just to get whatever. Seeing only Sally, and Martha as obstacles and nothing more despite Martha trying her all to give the man another chance and hope he could change for the better.
Honestly this is a sad case to watch as one woman's good graces was naive and a crook's inability to change. A tragic end all concerning.
