As for my humble set up -- Recording: the signal from the Yamaha analogue desk is sent to a Sony HD-MVR camera - its 120° lens (wide angle) gets everything out of focus - no manual focus - but I don't have to do any DAW sound processing. Gear and no-processing: ...acoustic drums mixed/equalized on an analog Yamaha MG20XU mixer desk with 1 cheap condenser mic + 7 Shure drum mics (no FX); backing song on a tablet - monitored via a Polsen headphone amp on a pair of Beyerdynamic headphones. Secondary level checks with a pair of AKGs. Drums, cymbals and sticks: ...ye trusty ol'Mapex Saturn V maple-walnut hybrid shell kit, Mapex factory Remo Emperor clear (toms) & Powerstroke clear (bass) heads + Gretsch USA Custom Bell Brass 14" x 6.5" snare, Remo/Gretsch Permatone CS white dot head + mostly Saluda cymbals with Vater’s 5B sticks.
