It's crazy to think how ancient the techniques they're using seem to be and this was only the mid 90's! It seriously makes you wonder what kind of technology will be considered run of the mill 20 years from now...

I can't help but think that this technique could produce false positives for many reasons. It could also produce 'false negatives' for many reasons. I'd be reluctant, if I was on a jury, to accept this as 'proof' of guilt.

Juries are always intentionally stocked with Stupid People. Instead of getting a Jury of your "peers", you are more likely to end-up with a Jury stocked with people who watch way too much Daytime Television. Heck, if they REALLY WERE a Jury of Your Peers, they each would have figured out how to GET OUT OF JURY DUTY in the first place!!

Just because you don't understand how something works doesn't mean it's not reliable. First off this is extremely basic digital enhancement from the 90's, the technologies they use today are way more incredible. And second off they are rigorously tested for repeatability and a strict chain of custody is maintained. Trust me, these technologies are incredible and certainly reliable. Otherwise the scientific community wouldn't dare endorse them. Do you know how the scientific method even works? It's all about trying to prove your theory _wrong_ and most things that can stand up to that scrutiny from a massive pool of professionals can certainly be counted on.

@@johnberry5275 If you end up with a stupid jury perhaps you should be looking at yourself, because you're probably an even bigger idiot for ending up in a position where your freedom or life hangs on their scrutiny. Don't be so quick to judge others.

First i would like to say that forensic teams are really really good at what they do, very professional. Now that being said, first i would try to re-create the print from my own hand before risking the actual evidence to a untested process. So if successful or not, i still have the evidence available for when the science catches up. Still this technician is brilliant in his skill and methods. And when we get better with the science of evidence, less innocent people will be in jail or have a criminal record. That is what i call "Progress", all the while proactively moving forward.

"Brain fingerprinting" ... easily defeated by invoking the 5th amendment, sticking with it, and refusing all interrogation. As an example: talk with a cardiac surgeon about chemical and anesthetic (or any other kind of) psychosis. Some experiences are "real" enough to be 100-&-truly-%-believed by the subject, yet are 100-and-truly-%-false.

I would be very skeptical about relying on that brain fingerprinting technology. The testing they demonstrated here relied on using words and acronyms that only particular people would recognize. If the machine only detects recognition in a brain, then I could think of endless scenarios in which false positives could be generated. If you were showing a picture of a woman who was a victim, then many people might recall an old friend or classmate who happened to look like her. I don't know if this tech could discern the difference. Also, an evidential weapon, like a knife or a gun could easily resemble one that you've seen or owned before. In fact, I would presume that most weapons used in a crime are ones that many people would recall seeing in their past. If the technology was very precise in determining how well you know an image and how recent it was saved in memory, then this maybe could be a good investigative tool like the polygraph.

I strongly believe that The Old Standard, the Polygraph Machine, is not a Lie Detector, but, instead, it is actually a *Peer Pressure* detector. For example, consider all the times when a witness claims to have seen either *Ghosts* or *Little Green Men* or *Bigfoot* . The witness _knows_ that The Prevailing Peer Group wants everyone to always say that "Ghosts do not exist!" (

All you had to do was google it and you’d have found out it was a hoax....there isn’t going to be that kind of technology in a long, long time, if ever. For one thing, how do you “test” a memory?? In order for a psychological technology to work, it has to be studied and tested, then a paper has to be published in a peer reviewed journal. Then, researchers working in the same area (peers) conduct studies exactly as done in the published study and tabulate results. The technology has to be successfully replicated several times until it’s given a stamp of approval. Again....how do you “test” a memory? Right. You can’t. Brain fingerprinting didn’t even get published, it was so bogus.

If you develop brain fingerprint software or thoughts interface, it should be kept a secret.
The implications of such technology affect national security.
A pilot aided by thoughts interface artificial intelligence is undefeatable.
His response time would be incredibly short. His strategy and tactics would be impeccable. His spatial perceptions would be augmented by the artificial intelligence, in real time.

The brain is not a piece of hardware and human memory isn't permanently implanted in it. In fact, memories like dreams are largely the product of one's own creati0n. Such devices could be useful tools for "convicting" and punishing various "enemies of the State," however.

    OK: Scenario.
A well known celeb/personage gets killed with an axe.
If you show the suspected perpetrator a photo of the celeb. their brain will respond in the affirmative.
Show the suspect an axe and their brain will respond in the affirmative; a recognition of the victim and weapon is acknowledged.
Will the police propose that this implies guilt? If so you could potentially have 3-4 billion suspects. A ridiculous proposition!

the brain image thing sounds ok but what if the cops bring in somebody that thought about killing a person the victim but never really did do it. Perhaps they had dreamed of it at some point . The mind would have made images and those images could be similar to what happened in a crime thus making the graph show a positive that is really a negative
