If your wife leaves you and doesn't contact you, i don't think it's suspicious that you don't expect to see them again, especially if it was an abusive relationship and she ran away. If their marriage was over for a while it's not that surprising that he'd start dating straight away. I'm not saying he's innocent but but I think it would be more suspicious if he pretended to grieve when they'd been unhappy together for a while and now he thinks she's left him for good. Some of these "suspicious circumstances" are actually just honest reactions to circumstances. Especially when there's way more real suspicious activity like trying to hire a hitman

The John Ritter movie was "inspired" by the Overton case but the movie makers took a lot of liberties with the facts. The movie is very different from the real story.
In the first case, the defense attorney needed only to point out that 10,000 (or however many) bottles bore the same code. That’s a lot of room for doubt. The clinching evidence isn’t so clinching as the police thought. But new ideas presented as science can shut people down I guess.
No death sentence for killing? Now he will live on Taxpayer's money in a luxurious American prison. . It seems to me that the American system favours the criminal and forgets the victim. No wonder there is so much crime in America.
Funny you say that the American justice system is the harshest than the European and Canadian systems that not only there are no death penalty there, but also often murderers are released within 17 years (many even after 10 years) for killing more than one person. If you live in any of the 22 Muslim countries, you should know that women who are killed in honor killing their husbands/fathers/brothers/uncles are not even jailed, (I assume you already knew that, don’t you?), so give me a break.

If you compare American prisons with prisons in third world countries, then the American prisons are luxurious by comparison.

Searching the family home should be the first thing police do, as soon as a woman is reported missing. The old, 'we had an argument and she just went for a walk to let off steam' excuse should be an instant red flag.

I’m really glad that the “Truth in Sentencing” movement in the national government happened back in the late 80s and 90s, and that reforms were mostly complete by 1999. If you don’t know what that is, you should look it up....judges no longer had huge latitude when sentencing convicted criminals, and it stopped parole boards from paroling murderers and rapists, etc too early; as I read up on one of the cases presented in one of these episodes, I found that one rapist and murderer only served 7 years of a 30 year sentence, and raped and murdered a whole bunch of women after release. And, even more disgusting, victims’ families weren’t notified ahead of time so they couldn’t make any statement to keep the monsters in prison! Now, “30 Years Means 30 Years!” I believe that the rights for victims also changed nationwide at this time. All for the best!

Surely body temperature has so many variables that it's an outdated method of finding out when someone died- surely rigamortis, the level of congealing of the blood, the level of decomposition- however slight, the stomach contents, and all of these factors together are far more accurate. Im a naturally cold person and my skin often feels cold to the touch. These days when our T° is taken everyday, mine is always really low- sometimes they do it twice because they don't believe my temperature is sometimes 33°C. So if I was murdered and they used that method they'd assume I'd been murdered hours before I was. My husband and I have talked about it and he agrees and says it could give someone close to me who knows about the anomaly a way of giving an alibi for the time i was supposed to have been murdered and I can't be the only one. And I know some people have higher than average base temperatures or they may be suffering from a fever that the cops don't know about because maybe they're just coming down with something and don't have any other symptoms yet or they had fever that no one knew about. A very inexact science.
Oh, my. Okay, forehead thermometers measure skin's temperature. Cadaver temps are taken with what are essentially giant meat thermometers shoved into the center of the liver. Most likely you can see why those two procedures are vastly different things without further explanation. If you were murdered, no one would be busting out the ThermoScan, I promise. Hopefully next time you and husband are discussing something neither of you can quite figure out, you'll try Google.

I cant find much about the case with David Anthony Smith, so I cant find much about Kenny Lamont Vladimir or why he was given such a long sentence. However, judging by the facts of the case presented in this video, I can make a few assumptions. Kenny was likely a repeat offender, most likely having to do with drugs. Given that he was the one who was supposed to procure the bad batch of heroin, it is likely that he had bought it before and had been busted or had committed related crimes, which can lead to longer sentences. Whether or not he killed her is not important in that situation given the legal system's goals, one of which is deterrence through increased penalties. However, if he was not a past offender, then the fact he had gone and procured heroin could have been a factor itself, as it shows intent and preparation to murder. Then there is another possible explanation, which would be racism, however I dont know who the judge was for Kenny, nor do I know what occured at his sentencing, so I cant confirm that was even on the table.

Just a question. In the USA, when a couple with no children, gets divorced, is the husband forced by the law, to pay his ex wife an alimony? If yes, why is that possible? The woman can get a job and support herself. Meanwhile she should get some financial help to get back on her feet if she did not work when married, that is it. Does it mean that a man with 3 ex wives is forced to pay all of them an alimony? That can have terrible consequences.
Alimony is completely different than child support. Alimony is awarded to wives that are stay at home homemakers with no independent income apart from her husband.

Heavy metal poisoning?! Sounds like a good way to go - Rock on brothers \m/
☠️☠️🤘🏻🤘🏻
I love that, of all the 220 comments down here currently, this is the one the almighty UA-cam gods chose to top the list and preview for me. 🤘
Rock on.
Well done investigators I salute you
In the first case, the defense attorney needed only to point out that 10,000 (or however many) bottles bore the same code. That’s a lot of room for doubt. The clinching evidence isn’t so clinching as the police thought.
But new ideas presented as science can shut people down I guess.
I wonder what’s in the HEART of these killers? What’s the gain of worldly things in exchange for eternal glory??
Really clever detective/forensic work. Such diverse range of potential clues and techniques. Amazing work.
Murderer gets 15 - 20 years. Accessory gets 20 - 60 years.
I checked the comments right after that part to see if anyone else caught that shit.
@@edgarolivo13 exactly! Very unfair.
Edgar Olivo That’s some shit all right. No justice.
Hired killer got more time. Don't want to pull the race card but what kind of justice is that.
This is the second case that I see where a black hitman who did not kill the person got more time than the actual muderer.
No death sentence for killing? Now he will live on Taxpayer's money in a luxurious American prison. . It seems to me that the American system favours the criminal and forgets the victim. No wonder there is so much crime in America.
There are no luxurious prisons in the U.S. Get real.
@@shawndouglass2939
They're living right? They're in luxury dumbass. Anyone who kills anyone does not deserve to live.
He’s getting sexually assaulted on a regular basis. You call that luxurious.
He's being fed, housed clothed at state expense. All his medical expenses are paid for by the State. He is also protected by the State from those who would take revenge on him for his crimes. . He don't have to work to support himself. America takes care of its prisoners much better than most third world countries takes care of it's poorer citizens. If you compare American prisons with prisons in third world countries, then the American prisons are luxurious by comparison.
Brilliant narration on these documentaries.
So, let's see. First we have a "cold case" solved by a beer bottle... OK. Then, first thing we learn is that investigators have to "tap into" something... again OK. Next thing I'm sure we'll hear is that they're going to have a barrel of fun....
Keg of fun, obviously. 😂
Well.. your evidence was slightly circumstantial... but I have to admit it made me laugh!
Great analogy!
Haha, "Rambo style hunting knife". Funny how the police use such terminology taken from their favorite movies.
Searching the family home should be the first thing police do, as soon as a woman is reported missing. The old, 'we had an argument and she just went for a walk to let off steam' excuse should be an instant red flag.
Except that women do that so often in arguments. Men too. It's an absolutely plausible and likely thing for someone to do after a fight, either to cool off or to get away from a more aggressive partner.
Will six beer bottles make a case?!🤓🤣😅😆😄
I'm only into this by about 8 minutes. If they found her phone, the number of the caller would be on it! She was called whilst at the hospital, in front of people...
By the intermediary agency .....
That's new technology, and was not true in 1996.
It's a shame, we can't do better as humans.
Richard wasn't as smart as he thought he was.
Question: Why did the black guy get more prison time than the white guy? He didn’t kill her. Her husband did. Answer: He is black
"Will 6 beer bottles make a case?"
200,000,000 bottles a year!? That's crazy. And I wonder if that's including around the world?
No! No its not!
200,000,000 bottles of beer on the wall..
38:28 I hope he was just an actor and not a real cop because that was stupid AF! He carried in that HUGE evidence collection case, yet had no gloves to even simulate proper procedure so he just grabs a towel?! Wtf?! 🙄🙄🤦♀️
15-20yr sentences in Michigan. The further north and east in the country, seems that murder is not considered a serious crime
Yikes! Sad times for sure!
If you take a life...you should die too! Eye for an eye thing! It's eye for an eye thing! It's in the Bibke
>drinking light beer
that by it self should be sentence to death
>keeping a diary of killing his own wife
einstein once said, there are 3 things that are infinite: space, time and human stupidity; and he was sure that the last one is infinite +1 over the first 2.
The is what Adventures with Purpose do. They dive underwater and search for trash. If its a car they pull it from the water to stop it contaminating the water further. Also people who have missing family members, have contacted these guys and they have either solved cold cases or cases from 2020. Also people who watch the lives, start to do research and from that research, have helped to find cars and missing victims. So far they have either found or helped locate missing cars and people. Go take a look at them, they are amazing
I love those dive shows!
Watching from Pennsylvania
wow
U guys did a great job congrats
Why people are so artless?
They deserved to be Jailed 100 times
Heartless
Well artless people too need to be jailed😉
A very inexact science.
body core temperature is much more restricted and stable than skin temp
Wow! This gives our investigators pause! Not! Forensics are smarter than you!
why the hell didn't she change her locks locks!! when you live with someone or give a key to someone your in relationship with and split with them, first thing you do is change the dam locks..............told my friends--my female & male friends to do the same which I did for them.....windows--keep them locked & if you open them put something heavy & noisy, patio doors--measure a broom stick made of strong wood or metal but make sure it's a tight fit at bottom of patio door...secure everything from basement to higher floors (to attic) just in case due to bad relationships, revenge or to just be secured.....even told them to go to Police to get info on cameras and security......we've had been doing this since young age due to bad events and don't tell anyone.........it's called Security. You can have a check on the person too and even ask police dept. for how to keep your home safe, they can do that.................this all may sound strange but you can sleep nights IF All is secured.
17:50 Becks beer nailed him 😉
So you pay someone to kill your wife, but you end up killing her by yourself. You receive 15 years only but the other person gets 20 to 60 years? That is so sick
42:56 look at this absolute unit.
Why do all of these criminals write down or type up information about their desires to commit crimes? I mean, I'm glad he was caught, but what was he thinking with that?
Probably he needed to pour out his feelings - that's why most people write diaries.
Very few criminals are intelligent people.
The state was irresponsible not to send him to jail after poisoning his ex-wife irrespective of whether she was willing to to take him to court. He committed a crime it does not matter what her opinion of the matter was
I wish this can also happen in my country or any other countries.
Mr Overton seems very bad at learning?
That hitman had an awesome shiny zebra blazer.
I live in Muskegon and live a mile from the Muskegon river. I don't remember this case though.
What is the purpose of the darn music in the background. It is truly annoying.
Probably added to avoid copyright issues. It is often done but the best ones it is subtle and not too loud.
How comes the husband who beat her to death got 16-20 years, whilst the blackman who only assisted got 20-60 years. The father who assisted also got only three year? Funny
Are u saying racism played into it? Do you have all the info to allege that ? Funny
And before you get all woke, I'm biracial with a black father. We don't need sjw. We are not chess peices. Pawns
@@rbrowning9617 How then would you evaluate the situation
Still..you didn't pick up on this??? I'm an old white woman and this is so wrong on every level!
great report
November 13th 1996 was on Wednesday and not Friday. FYI OK
Wow its amazing that you can watch investigation documentary 11mos before I was born... Waaah i wanted to be an invedtigator and help those victims 🤧
Do it! You may help solve murders!
Ladimir.
Excellent
Smith got 15-20 years, and he actually committed the murder, and the accessory got Kenny Latimer got a 60 year sentence? Is that correct?
That last case ..they made a movie out of it
Is it not amazing how many life forms exist in this world, ??
Cyanide, why Don't they check for poisons initially? Especially when it's a suspicious Spouse related death?
They explained. Cyanide poisoning is extremely rare and the test is a specialist one. It’s almost certainly me not worth the time effort and cost to test every suspicious death for cyanide
Expensive! I know not the best excuse!
I'm at least 5'5 & in my 20s & this is not at all good for kids my age to be stupid
ffs they let him off for poisoning his 1st wife
First episode is a forensic file episode called trouble brewing.
Hold up how the black guy got more time then anyone
Was about to say the same thing
I'd like to know that too! I'm a 75yo woman and this is just so wrong!!!
White woman BTW!
Who writes your case studies? Do they need help?
Keeping diaries... not a good idea, folks! Not even if you are a perfectly benign person. Your own words will come back to you to haunt you! It is best to simply glide along life and take things as they come. If you happen to forget something... it is not that important to you.
I was Born in that hospital in Columbia 😂😂😂
So often LIFE doesnt actually mean LIFE.. Most likely he will be released to make room for the most recent MURDERERS. So life can be 8 or 20 years.. making future generations potential victims for him again..System is seriously broken. Especially for the victims and their families..
I thought it was Richard Lions
I'm wearing my drinking shirt.
The person that killed the wife got 15years, the guy that joined him got 60years. What type of law is that?
Isnt celinium known as arsenic
And cyanide is even worse
Just a question. In the USA, when a couple with no children, gets divorced, is the husband forced by the law, to pay his ex wife an alimony? If yes, why is that possible?
The woman can get a job and support herself. Meanwhile she should get some financial help to get back on her feet if she did not work when married, that is it.
Does it mean that a man with 3 ex wives is forced to pay all of them an alimony? That can have terrible consequences.
Alimony is completely different than child support. Alimony is awarded to wives that are stay at home homemakers with no independent income apart from her husband.
