    The piano you hear is from the MIDI file with some original audio added for reference
    Do you want to know how Elton plays this iconic song from the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album? From its bar scene lyrics to its guitar power chords this song has been a staple in Elton’s live setlist for decades. From Fall Out Boy, Nickelback, to its latest iteration in the movie Rocketman performed by Taron Egerton it has also been covered by countless bands throughout the years. In this video you will see how Elton plays with the band in a live concert that he was obviously having a lot of fun with. The transcription that I have created will show you the chords, notes on a grand staff, as well as a piano roll visual. With the MIDI file download link below you can also trigger a sheet music application, slow down/speed up piano part without quality loss, change the key of the song, loop difficult sections, and much more!
    For a quote on a transcription you would like for me to do just for you, email me here: chrisbarkersmusic@gmail.com
    Due to copyright infringement issues and video blocking I am unable to create UA-cam videos for many of the suggestions that I receive in the comments section. I do, however, create videos and MIDI files just like on my channel for clients who would like a specific piano part transcribed for any video or audio file!

    Well I started learning to play Elton’s songs by ear back in 1994 way before youtube and online tutorials, I had to rely entirely on myself, so it’s great to find out how you play those songs and rediscover them again, and, thanks to your meticulous and incredible work, make them sound even better. So a B.I.G. Thank you to you🎹♥️🎹♥️😃

    Every other tutorial I've watched is very "clean" and "proper". As if the Suzuki Method taught EJ.
    But this is a dirty song with dirty chords. It's a song that should play and feel drunk and rowdy. This captures that feel. I don't think anyone should try to play it like Elton. They should play it their own way, while honoring that it's a drunken brawl song.

    • @chrisbarkerpiano
      @chrisbarkerpiano  Рік тому

      Hi Brian, thanks for the comment. Most of what you see on UA-cam, if not all, is midi information being entered that is to a grid. This is a great process for sheet music but not to get the feel of what is actually being performed. The way I do it unfortunately takes way longer which is why you see so little like it. I need to do a video explaining the process at some point for sure.

    Is this his MIDI feed off the DCFX or did you reproduce this? Either is impressive, I’m just wondering.

    • @chrisbarkerpiano
      @chrisbarkerpiano  9 місяців тому +1

      Well I have no idea what DCFX is :-) So I really just go bit by bit and try to play it as close as I can to how Elton does. It of course is very time consuming and tedious, probably why most people don't do it this way. Thanks for the encouragement!

    • @adamt.3857

    This is a great version. How does the MIDI file help? (I've never used one before and have just asked Claude to explain it!) I've been following the notes on the video at half speed which is a bit tricky...is it easier with the MIDI file? You've got a great selection of songs here I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers. (PS, if you're accepting suggestions Randy Newman has some great songs, this is one I can't find a good tutorial for, nor find it in any of his piano books ua-cam.com/video/kKOEaQ9xKbQ/v-deo.html) Thank you for taking the time to create these, they are a big help to all of us trying to improve our piano playing!

    • @chrisbarkerpiano
      @chrisbarkerpiano  Місяць тому +1

      Sorry I haven't seen this comment til now. So you need something to be able to play the midi file like GarageBand, Logic, or any other DAW will do as well. There are many midi players out there for free to choose from as well as paid ones, I'm not familiar unfortunately with most of them. To get the most out of a midi file I recommend a paid version that's going to give you more options. Midiculous is an app that I believe a lot of people like and it has several tiers depending on your needs. The short of it is with the right app you can: slow down without quality loss, loop sections to practice with, some apps will turnt the midi into sheet music although it won't be "arranged" and might need tweaking to appear right on the grand staff. You can also changed the key of the song without any change to the quality of the sound as well since midi isn't an audio file. I hope this helps and I will take a look at the Randy Newman song as well. Take care!

      I create a midi file of Elton's playing by learning it myself. I use a program that reads the midi file and shows you the notes, chords, and the keyboard at the bottom. I am planning on a video series explaining how I create these and how they can be used to learn songs. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks

      @@chrisbarkerpiano At the beginning, Elton isn't playing like he usually does. Just seems like a subpar playing at the beginning. I'll look for one that is much better and post it here sometime later.

    • @colbybelk
      @colbybelk 3 роки тому

      @@driversteve9345 the reason I love Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting is you can tell how Elton’s feeling that night - especially on the line “couple of the sounds I really like” - I have never heard it the same twice. My personal favorite is from the official release of Red Piano. Another thing to consider is the piano is way up in the mix in this video (which I absolutely love) but it does initially fall on your ears as foreign.
      Check out Elton’s right hand on GYBR from the Million Dollar Piano show. It’s also a tell as to how playful he’s feeling that night.

    • @colbybelk
      @colbybelk 3 роки тому +1

      ..and I must add, at the time of the original recording on GYBR, Elton - as skilled pianist as he is - found it impossible to play and sing simultaneously. He played the piano part with the band and then recorded the vocal track with the band but with Elton laying on the floor.
