God, that ending was sick... May the Emperor smile upon you, Bricky, for this offering you have given. It's difficult to tell 40k's overarching story in less than thirty minutes, but not only did you do it, you also managed to convey the full emotional context of the setting as well. The individual heroism, those little sparks of hope keeping the dark away, courage not for the sake of evil but for the sake of those at your side - all so well communicated. Amazing job. This is one of my favorite videos on 40k, and I'll be sure to try to show this to anyone who is interested but still new to the hobby.
This franchise has accompanied me for almost 20 years of my life. This is the first time i'm almost in tears remebering what it means to me and the memories i have associaeted with it. Thank you Bricky, from the bottom of my hearth.
Slight correction: It was the birth of Slaneesh that ENDED the Age of Strife. The age had been caused by the psychic buildup of Eldar emotions leading up to the birth of Slaneesh which extinquished the vast majority of Eldar souls in the warp ending the age of strife
Slaanesh's birth scream essentially blew away the warp storms that had isolated pockets of humanity and that had built up over the course of their increasing hedonism.
@@tlcronus Seems less that he waited for it and more that he got blindsided by it to me. I mean, he launched the Unification Wars and the Crusade with tech he'd basically scrounged up from behind the couch cushions in an incredible hurry. If he'd really been planning for this for thousands of years, he'd have been a lot better prepared. He was kind of like the student who's just realized that this paper is due tomorrow and it's 50% of the grade and he hasn't even started yet.
Another slight correction: Knorne, Tzeentch, and Nurgle were not around in the War in Heaven. They came MUCH later, in fact more near our modern times. I believe Nurgle is the oldest (though apparently some sources place Khorne earlier still), truly forming from nascent energies during the time of the Black Plague on Earth. The rest came about later.
I never engaged with Warhammer (40k), but something about the universe of 40k is so damn compelling. I love these kinds of videos and hope you do more of them.

Loved this! I'm and old guy and I have long looked down upon WH40K (because reasons) but a few years ago I dived into it and now I can't get enough of it. I wish it would evolve a bit faster because I don't wanna die before interesting things happen 😀
30k was when Imperium was a fascistic empire hellbent on manifesting destiny across the galaxy with legions of gene enhanced warriors.(Also the Imperium was just better off, no threats 20 primarcs +Emperors and millions of astartes.) 40k Imperium a post fascistic theocratic society which literally collapsed beyond repair after the Heresy, clinging to life in a constant fight or flight reflex that is willing to sacrifice everyone to sustain its existence.
@@kesmeseker9593 a note on 30k, I get the feeling that many of the upper echelon of Imperium command was more on the "true-believer" vs "cynical opportunist just out for personal gain" side of this Imperiums Ideology, and also for that reason this empire was hellbent on manifesting destiny across the galaxy, Not and excuse or disagreement with you calling it fascist (its appropriate), I just think calling both 30k and 40k facists, misses alot of nuance of how different the two where,
The first novel i read for WH40k, was Fifteen Hours. I'd say that is also a really good novel for starting out, as it really hammers home the plight of the average soldier in the Imperium. How little one truly is in the grand scheme.
Honestly Bricky, beautifully crafted. From audio, to visuals, to the script itself, you are under-rated and I know you can get to 1 Million! Keep up the amazing work.
I tried getting into the lore but felt too complicated, your an amazing storyteller for someone like me who need things to be described more simple but still intriguing and don’t missing out on the details. Thank you Bricky
I don't know if you know this but bricky is on a podcast calls adeptus ridiculous where he goes over warhammer lore in a very simplistic and casual manner. I personally enjoy it quite a lot.
A little bit more info about how the C'tan came to be. The Necronty basically made them. Ther were barely sentient, eating only from the energy of stars, as he said in the video, but the Necrontyr found them, and put them into machine bodies with very advanced AI, to give them sentience, and it all went down from there
When you realize that every faction and everyone within the factions is a shade of gray, it becomes much simpler. At that point it's really about breaking it down into chunks and going from there.
Another masterclass in storytelling from Bricky! 30 minutes seemed far too short a time to encompass the VAST history behind the 41st milennium but man can this guy cram a lot of detail into every segment!
I became aware of this universe like 3 years ago with TheRussianBadger's videos but watching Bricky's last year really got me interested. Now I played Space Marine and Dark Crusade and I'm playing Boltgun, Mechanicus and Tacticus. You really got me, Bricky.
Mate, that's the exact same way I got into Warhammer. Difference being is now I play Space Marine, Vermintide 2, Darktide, and Arma 3 with a ton of mods
From what I can see in this fandom there are people that take the game too serious. Some take offense and want to change it, others take it to heart in a bad way. Bricky got the right mentality.
@@GsusCrustI have to say that it was Bricky who got me to embrace 40k lore (outside of Orks and Kriegsman, because those are both meme gold) but he made me actually understand and embrace the depths that I had previous felt were just derivative)

That was years ago now, I'm painting my White Scars army and reading the Fall of Cadia books. Good job Brick, I'm both happy and mad for being roped into this. Emperor protects, brothers
Man this video is so good, if only there was a UA-cam channel that had bricky talk a lot more about Warhammer, like going into detail about some moments of the lore, the factions and even one off stories like rylanor and commissar yarick
Verrrry slight correction: the Birth of Slaanesh blew away the isolating warp storms that the decline of the Eldar had brought. That is, the Fall of the Eldar brought the end of the Age of Strife.
I had always known about WH40K as a couple of my friends were really into it. They didn't play tabletop, but they played many games on PC, loved the in depth lore, and could talk about it for hours. Only in the past year have I really grown to love this universe. I started by just checking out what the tabletop was actually like. Watching some games played, and eventually grew an interest. Which led me to your videos on WH40K and your style of content just drew me in. I've been watching all of your videos ever since and I especially love your WH videos. I could watch you explain WH lore for hours, and this one was no different. I'd like to attribute your content here and in other places for my interest and desire to play 40K.
I started listening to the Warhammer audiobooks at work to pass the time and they've been a great experience. I'm a big fan of the Astra Militarum so far. Seeing just how hard humanity will fight to have some small comfort is really interesting. Thanks Bricky, I think your original Warhammer faction video might have gotten me on this lore train. PS I now know why we don't talk about Cadia :(
Couple other details to know: Humanity's primate ancestors were also made by the Old Ones, the War in Heaven ended when a Warp race known as the Enslavers showed up and either killed or chased off most of the Old Ones and their races, and the Emperor was born by a bunch of ancient human shamans seeing the threat of Chaos and ritualistically sacrificing themselves to make the Emperor to fight them. Bricky I want to thank you for recommending those four. I really agree they’re the best intro points for someone new to the setting and a good mix of silly (Infinite and the Divine/Ciaphas Cain) and the serious (Horus Rising/First and Only). Too often I see people recommend Xenos or all the eisenhorn novels and I think that’s such a missed opportunity and only emphasizes the grimdark nature of the setting when there’s so much humor in it too.
Perfect timing considering the new rush of people wanting to get in (such as myself) due to the console launch of dark tide. Very informative and also gives me a modest bit more investment into the universe.

17:44 "Slaanesh's birth sent storms from the Warp across the galaxy, making travel between the star systems impossible." I had previously heard that Slaanesh's birth is what cleared the warp storms responsible for ending the Golden Age of Technology, and that The Great Crusade was only possible after Slaanesh's birth cleared the galaxy of storms.
From what i understand that is true but Slaanesh's gestation from the Eldar's debauchery was effectively heralded by the excess warp storms and his/hers actual birth and the resulting death of 90% of the Eldar cleared the storms up

The end speech got me so hyped I jumped up, let out a battle cry and proceeded to go on a rampage around my neighborhood. ... It was a wild week
Phenomenal upload. 10/10. Even as a long time Warhammer enthusiast, this was such a joy to watch. Great work, Bricky.
That last section gave me CHILLS bro
Was looking for this. The emperor was waiting for the storms to break and be blown away so they could do the crusade.
@@spamhere1123 It is implied that Khorne's initial "spark" emerged with the first murder.
The excellence of WH40k Rogue Trader kinda revitalized my interest in WH40k lore videos.
Wouldnt be surprised if you see an uptick in viewers.
I never engaged with Warhammer (40k), but something about the universe of 40k is so damn compelling. I love these kinds of videos and hope you do more of them.
You should check out the pinned comment sir, he is involved in a whole podcast all about 40K. Plenty to slack the lore thirst and they've been at it for...jeez is it almost three years? Lol lots to listen to and discover
Well thank you good sir! I can't believe I missed that. Sure is a lot of content to go through holy shit. I will be locking myself in for a while. Thanks again!
Same. I never got into the table-top game, so I didn't think there'd be much left for me in Warhammer without that
I don't think I've ever been so wrong before lol
Bricky has come such a huge way in terms of writing and editing since his first 40k faction video which was already really good, it's insane
He really went far with it
This is the most beautiful add transition ever. I actually watched it out of sheerly being impressed.
Your original 40K explained video got me into the setting in the first place. Intro videos like this are so important for growing the community. Keep ‘‘em coming!
Loved this! I'm and old guy and I have long looked down upon WH40K (because reasons) but a few years ago I dived into it and now I can't get enough of it. I wish it would evolve a bit faster because I don't wanna die before interesting things happen 😀
Jesper Kyd's "Immortal Imperium" is SO GOOD. Probably one of the top 40k songs
I always wondered about the differences between the 30k and 40k eras
Give or take about 10k years
30k was when Imperium was a fascistic empire hellbent on manifesting destiny across the galaxy with legions of gene enhanced warriors.(Also the Imperium was just better off, no threats 20 primarcs +Emperors and millions of astartes.) 40k Imperium a post fascistic theocratic society which literally collapsed beyond repair after the Heresy, clinging to life in a constant fight or flight reflex that is willing to sacrifice everyone to sustain its existence.
@@kesmeseker9593honestly? Well put
@@kesmeseker9593 a note on 30k, I get the feeling that many of the upper echelon of Imperium command was more on the "true-believer" vs "cynical opportunist just out for personal gain" side of this Imperiums Ideology, and also for that reason this empire was hellbent on manifesting destiny across the galaxy, Not and excuse or disagreement with you calling it fascist (its appropriate), I just think calling both 30k and 40k facists, misses alot of nuance of how different the two where,
Both settings are grimdark, but the 30k guys haven’t realized it yet.
Bricky feeding the reaction community for another 6 months.
So to date, The Emperor has eaten 3 billion, 650 million Psyker souls. He's a hungry boy.
Dude I got chills with that ending. Theres really something poetic about this garbage universe. I love it!
The minute the montage of "There is only war" popped up, I got so hyped
"That weapon in your hand has killed 99% of the Alien population in this galaxy! Unfortunately for you, you're fighting the remaining 1%!"
Henry Cavil needs to hire Bricky as a narrator for his 40k show.
Came here for this comment! Just subscribed to bricky and immediately thought Amazon prime could just refer to him!
Darktide literally makes 40k videos better by their musical scores. That and Mechanicus have given such bangers.
The first novel i read for WH40k, was Fifteen Hours. I'd say that is also a really good novel for starting out, as it really hammers home the plight of the average soldier in the Imperium. How little one truly is in the grand scheme.
The use of the Darktide music is such a good bit of evidence of how good and fitting that music is for warhammer.
What was the music he used at the end
@@Icemage25Immortal Imperium
Honestly Bricky, beautifully crafted. From audio, to visuals, to the script itself, you are under-rated and I know you can get to 1 Million! Keep up the amazing work.
28:46 This part goes unimaginably hard
I tried getting into the lore but felt too complicated, your an amazing storyteller for someone like me who need things to be described more simple but still intriguing and don’t missing out on the details. Thank you Bricky
I don't know if you know this but bricky is on a podcast calls adeptus ridiculous where he goes over warhammer lore in a very simplistic and casual manner. I personally enjoy it quite a lot.
@@baldrtheboulder8927 I do but never started listening to it yet, thanks ✨🌸💖
You really got me, Bricky.
i'd recommend darktide. it had a rough launch but i can finally say its at a good point to give it a go. i hear it's like left for dead, for reference
@@ExtraRaven_it’s essentially left for dead with a warhammer reskin overtop.
Mate, that's the exact same way I got into Warhammer. Difference being is now I play Space Marine, Vermintide 2, Darktide, and Arma 3 with a ton of mods

“It says we can’t do that in the Codex!”
“WELL I CAN’T READ!”
And this is why I enjoy bricky. He enjoys warhammer for what it is, without embracing the horrible mindsets as acceptable.
Coz he aint no heretic!
I love that you equate hell to Victorville, CA where I grew up and I couldn't agree with you more.
Been a big Adeptus ridiculous listener these past few years, still always fun to see the timeline laid out like this in the brickster style, p.s the ab juice looks great can't wait for the next flavour...bripple milk

Good on you for getting your G-Supps flavor, Bricky! You’re doin great keep it up champ!
Just watched the rest of it, what a masterfully written video.
The final monologue was brilliant! Honest-to-Emperor chills right there. Great job Bricky. :)
I still remember discovering both Bricky's channel and Warhammer lore by the now old "All factions explained" videos back in the day.
Dude there are literally so many. Luetin09 for instance.

Just a week ago I got a buddy of mine interested in the 40k universe. What a time for you to bless us with this video.
5:33 "But there are also gods of real space..." _Oh I know those are gonna be the nice ones who fight the warp ones!_ "...and they EAT STARS." _Oh..._
Verrrry slight correction: the Birth of Slaanesh blew away the isolating warp storms that the decline of the Eldar had brought. That is, the Fall of the Eldar brought the end of the Age of Strife.
The warp storms that caused the Age of Strife can be more accurately viewed as the incubation of Slaanesh.
That ending speech... Chills
28:38-29:35
As entertaining, funny, and meme-y as this video is, this part gives me the chills - of fright and of "hot damn, that's awesome"
Wouldn't be a warhammer fan without Adeptus Ridiculous and Bricky's faction video so I'm definitely hyped for a new 40k vid!
I gotta say, that last section, ending with the famous 40k line hit real hard. Someone definitely cutting onions around here...
by the emperor you did the "There is only war" line so well such cool way to end the video
PS I now know why we don't talk about Cadia :(
this literally gave me chills at the end, that line delivery was outstanding!!
Honestly, this is a perfect video to intruduce your friends into the lore. Well done!
I loved this. Very informative about the 40k universe for a newbie like me and with great comedic timing as well.
Wonderful video.
Oh, and the Orks were once the Krorks and were, at minimum, 12 metres tall*. Yes, Metres. But (supposedly) a lack of good fighting de-evolved them.
*For context, a Warboss that was at least 10 metres tall was powerful enough to lead a Waaagh! that almost destroyed the entire Imperium. They even managed to invade Terra.
Have fun!
I like how the tau got a single screenshot and wasnt mentioned by name at all lmao
Bricky I can't tell you how much i love the more heavy on lore and storytelling videos that you make.

GLORY TO THE IMPERIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The passion and fun you have while making those videos is so empowering, every video I watch is making me glad you are doing such content

17:44 "Slaanesh's birth sent storms from the Warp across the galaxy, making travel between the star systems impossible."
I had previously heard that Slaanesh's birth is what cleared the warp storms responsible for ending the Golden Age of Technology, and that The Great Crusade was only possible after Slaanesh's birth cleared the galaxy of storms.
From what i understand that is true but Slaanesh's gestation from the Eldar's debauchery was effectively heralded by the excess warp storms and his/hers actual birth and the resulting death of 90% of the Eldar cleared the storms up
