Almost all fruit tree blossoms are in the "lovely" category. And the scent of a large apple orchard at peak bloom is divine.

Fascinating! As always strait an to the point of pomology, Orin Martin is an excellent instructor. As an educator and mechanic myself, I thoroughly enjoy Orin's teachings. Because his tone is matter of fact and his intonations in his speech grab your attention at important information. Thank you Sir!

We agree! At the UCSC Farm and Garden, we consider Orin a great treasure and a delightful man all around. I'm the guy that shoots and edits the videos and it's been a wonderful opportunity to work with Orin. I've learned so much about caring for fruit trees in the past 2 years. And Orin is such a pro, working on-camera. I call him "one take Orin", because he usually does the entire demonstration in a single take - no flubs, no re-do's. Makes my work a lot easier. This was very informative. I see a couple of different bud formations on a peach tree that I planted last year, and I wasn’t sure if only the round buds would flower. I’m hopeful now. Thanks for the insight.

    Dear Orin,
Firstly, I've got to thank you for being an amazing teacher & for being so generous sharing your knowledge....I've ordered your book. Mum & I are currently pruning our peach trees which we do annually and they are all over 20 years old. What do you mean by your 'flick flick flick' technique? Sorry don't quite get it. Wishing you and your loved ones well.....if you ever come to Australia I would fly anywhere to hear you speak. You rock. Wishing you peace, health & happiness, Kim.

Thanks for the kind words. By "flick, flick" is meant to gently hit the fading flower buds with the tip of your finger - if a bud has been pollinated it will remain on the branch. If it didn't get pollinated, the flower and bud will just drop off. This is an early indicator of how well your tree has been pollinated and what you can expect in the amount of fruit the tree will bare that season.

I've got 7 buds as of today. First time flowering since 4 years ago when I bought it. San Antonio, TX. I haven't fertilized yet. Is it okay to fertilize during flowering?

You can fertilize anytime of the year and while it's blooming, too!
