- I knew with certainty when Super Mario Bros Wonder came out that I’d have to try a no coins challenge. And so I did, but in that process I ended up also doing somewhat of a mini no jumping challenge. Now normally that’s the sort of obviously absurd proposition that I wouldn’t even consider for a Mario game. No, that sort of thing is best left to Kirby. But this time, perhaps foolishly I thought, maybe, just maybe there’s a chance. So, is it possible to beat Super Mario Bros Wonder without jumping?

I think dropping from the ceiling should be legal. That's a drop, not a jump. You're quite literally losing elevation - the opposite of a jump.
And considering you're "letting go" off the surface rather than propelling from it, well, it should be legal
I agree, as jumping is gaining height on the vertical axis, and dropping from the ceiling is literally losing height. Also, other moves requiring the B button are legal. Therefore, the challenge is possible.
Personally, I think it's as much of a jump as jumping as a goomba is in Odyssey.
Meaning the reason it isn't a jump is that you're transformed into another creature. Is that logic kinda stupid and flimsy? Probably, but I don't care.
Also, that's not a player jumping
@@hinzbxIf you consider this as jumping, you force the challenge to be impossible as you need to gain height. The idea of this type of challenge is not to press the jump button

If you’re taking suggestions for challenges in this game, here’s a individual-level challenge I found interesting: Equip the Rhythm Jump badge, and try to clear the level without breaking the streak by either jumping off-rhythm or missing one of the points you’re meant to jump at.
If the Flutter JUMP and Safty JUMP are allowed in a no jump challange, then cancelling holding on to a wall is allowed, too.
It’s the safety bounce and bouncing isn’t jumping you just jump when bouncing so you have a point and this comment has no purpose
Flutter kick and safety bounce. But simply letting go of the ceiling definitely isn't a jump anyway.
I stopped watching like 3 minutes in because I could tell they were just going to abuse flutter jump. Even though jump is right in the name

I'd say that since it wasn't technically a jump, but instead just you letting go of the wall, that bit where you dropped onto the Wonder Seed from above is legal.
Yeah, you basically let gravity do the job for you, since the characters dont propel themselves from the ceiling to fall at max speed almost instantly
This seems like a very fun Co-op challenge more then a solo challenge.
Would definitely be a lot less annoying with another person.
Reminder that this challenge was thought of by complete accident.
It was thought of because another game has an in game jump counter (that’s only visible once you beat the game) and some gamer enby decided to beat the whole game without jumping just to see it at 0
Watching you skip a badge and then immediately encounter 2 stages where that badge would've been practically necessary hurts.
I was wondering how helpful the Spring Feet badge would be... before realising its behind "Jump! Jump! Jump!" Good luck.
a cinematic level is impossible, yet CROUCHING HIGH JUMP IS. i think it might be possible.
Amazingly done, didn’t think it would be possible at all. On the topic of jumpless challenges I would like to suggestion one for the heroes in another dimension mode from Kirby star Allies as it looks like it could be interesting
I tried this a while back but gave up since it was just too difficult. Great work on actually completing this!
Now do it without moving, breathing, seeing, hearing, jumping, getting wonder seeds, getting coins, killing enemies, and without hands.
There is a trick with the safety bounce batch:
Mount a Yoshi!
If you mount a yoshi, the yoshi can jump on any pit/lava/poison 2 times before he dies, boosting the character on top in the air AND this character has a third jump on the pit!
And with two yoshies you can do a flutter jump in between each, giving you 7 movements upwards wirhout any plattform! You can just skip giant parts of a level that way!
Of course dropping from the ceiling is legal! No matter what button you pressed, it's quite clear that dropping from the ceiling isn't the same thing as jumping.
That was some nice foreshadowing on the final level badge. Didn't see it coming at all.
in the wiggler races, couldn't you just eat the mushroom guys instead of damage boosting?

My rule is that a jump is defined by what makes a Hoppycat jump
You have no idea how badly I want some indie dev to create a platformer without a jump button. Your character can have all kinds of tools at their disposal to progress through Mario or Sonic-style obstacle courses. Just no ability to jump.

I tried my own jump challenge recently where I didn't allow ghosting, but I did allow one player to jump. I also decided wall jumps were fine, and I managed to make it to W5 with the help of Spring Feet and Jet Run
I feel like the wubba is literally holding onto the ceiling, so he's just... letting go.

The upside jump definitely counts as a jump, gravity was just flipped, if you simply flip the camera view, you’ll see that the jump gains height, just in the inverse, so instead of gaining positive height, you’re gaining negative height, still a jump though
No jumping, what is this black magic like? Honestly, it's impossible like you need to get the goals and fly pool. You need to jump on certain things to get to the flagpole. Either jump some obstacles. I don't know if that's even possible if someone didn't let me know. And I would be impressed. Like honestly there's no way I can do it

I'd say a jump is only a jump if it actually increases your speed in a direction. When you drop from the ceiling it doesn't do that, it only let's gravity take over.

You are not pushing off of a solid object to let go, so I don't think it count's as a jump.

I think the Wubba drop does count as a jump. Based on a wall jump counting as a jump, it doesn’t matter what the angle of the surface is. Especially, since it is activated by the jump button. It’s a stupid, contrived jump since you should be able to drop by pressing down like on the underside of dash rails but it’s still a jump.
Would Outmawey Valley had been easier if you used one of the other chatacters with a Fire Flower?
Is it just me, or does EVERY challenge run in this game so far require that glitch?
The wubba situation has an easy solution treat it like how you treat it to dropping with a drill mushroom.
22:01 it’s kinda controversial but you did have it count as a jump based on your gameplay on the previous level.

I'd wager it's the combo of forced wonder seed in a cinematic level. Each of those things reduce your options significantly but together...

Also I guess if you glitch into World 4, the game no longer checks for the World 3 Royal Seed? I was expecting you to have to come back to it somehow.
The game only checks for world 4 5 and 6 wonder seeds since it assumes you've done the first three
Dropping from the ceiling uses a different, clearly-just-letting-go animation from the squishy jump animation, so it's not a jump.

ok so im a minute in, i'm gonna say yes because of what gamechamp did in her coinless on The Way of the Goomba. If you allow co-op's bounce from a ghost release then I don't know what stops you, though iirc that was somewhat reliant on ONLINE multiplayer so maybe if you ban that you're fine.

I'd say the drop at the end of Fungi Mines is legally a jump, since you are jumping off the ceiling, which I know sounds strange.
If you were to do this at any other ceiling, the force at which you fall is greater than if you jumped off the ground and fell. Not only that, but you could also argue that your perspective has changed, reversing up and down, thus the ceiling is ground.
So no, I'd say it's not possible to beat _Super Mario Bros. Wonder_ without jumping.
I don't think it's a jump because there is no initial velocity like there would be with a jump. It all comes from the pull of gravity. It's the same thing as if the character were holding themselves with their arms and just let go.

Dropping isnt jumping. When you drop a book, you dont say the book jumped.

So, do you not need all the royal seeds to access bowser?
Apparently not, It seems entering Castle Bowser requires just the first royal seed, sense you are required to get that one. It is just assumed you get all the others, too.
That wubba jump isnt a jump. It just... unsticks itself. Plus you dont gain elevation but lose it. NOT A JUMP.

Sadly, yes.
Mandatory, otherwise the screen at the start of the level doesn't scroll which makes the level impossible otherwise

HE CHEATED, THE FINAL UNCHARTED AREA POISON RUINS IS IMPOSSIBLE, EVEN WITH THE EXCLAMATION MARK BLOCKS BADGE, YOU NEED TO JUMP ONCE TO GET TO THE OTHER WALL

I believe the portion you're talking about is the Wubba section right after you ignore the flagpole. I assure you that jumping there is not necessary. You just need to ghost from the right location to stick to the other wall. It was actually such a simple process that I didn't feel the need to dwell on it in the video. Sorry for the confusion.

These NO JUMP videos are terrible for a challenge since you have to jump on curtain points of games in order to progress the story/gameplay to finish the NO JUMP challenge, so you really need to change ALL titles to LEAST AMOUNT of jumps to each game that require you to jump, since making acceptances ruing the purpose of the said challenge.
Like take the Kirby And the Forgotten Land NO JUMP challenge since you want to use a curtain ability to upgrade it to make a glitch, BUT that actually requires JUMPING to get that said upgrade, in order to get to that glitch.
"Spin JUMP" badge. Yeah this video is just complete lies. You used a jump. Im so sick of mario challenges pretending they did something or got close when they outright cheated. Not a good video.

1:04 have you not watched the literal first two minutes of the video? he provides a definition for jumping for the challenge, and mid-air height gain was explicitly stated as legal. it may have jump in the name, but by the bounds of the challenge it is a perfectly legal move.
