I hate that people will put up with those UA-cam Shorts bots that clearly just use other people's footage and have an AI read Reddit posts. Those channels belong on that list.
Nascar should just pay brock to do what he does outside of yt monetization. Hes made me realize alot of what i missed about nascar as a fan that walked away and didnt care for a few years. Nascar used to care about its past. Now they only care about the most recent race. The one a week before might as well be 100 years earlier. Too much hype nowadays. We watch for a reason. We'll find our own stories that we care about. Like i never knew loris hezeberg was a nascar euro champ. I saw him at road america 2022. Whos this dutch guy in an orange car? He was doing alright too. Dont think they ever even made a mention that it was a european whelen champ and that it should have been a bigger deal. I wanted to hear more about that. Never heard a peep
I'm usually not one for the "youtube videos are free advertising for that company" but with NASCAR it kind of has been for me at least. I grew up watching it with my dad and I wasnt into it really but watching these kind of videos made me want to watch it more and I've seen a few races on TV live.
Exactly. Same with all of motorsports really. I'm 41 and never really got into NASCAR or F1, Indycar, etc. Now i've been watching youtube channels about it and have started watching races, which I NEVER would have if it wasn't for these kind of channels getting me interested in it.
I mean it is a problem in that youtube doesn't give a single crap about small creators. Just dumping stuff out without any checks except "not our fault blame the bot". Well its their fault for not testing the bot.
Thanks for the update S1ap. For all the oft-deserved criticism we give NASCAR, they do deserve credit for encouraging fan content and taking the right steps to fix this.
I think NASCAR not claiming any videos they very well could is really smart on their part. I got into NASCAR through content creators so for me it's a really smart move on them as it's basically free advertising. Most times the free advertising thing does not work but I think sports is one of those categories where content creators are a good way for a sport to be promoted. I remember when Formula 1 started copyright claiming people using their footage and also forced a bunch of content creators to change their names because they had F1 in their name, it's just not smart when you're a sport trying to grow it's fanbase.
This is the exact shit that we fought the DMCA so hard for. Pretty much none of these claims, even the ones you mentioned, actually fall under copyright. Fair Use still exists and every one of these creators clearly fit that definition.
Good to hear it's not NASCAR Media being dicks and abusing the system. I was going to suggest following the example of James Stephanie Sterling, who was subject to various video game publishers abusing the copyright system on UA-cam against content creators using game footage under fair use. Steph came up with the copyright lock, where they would use footage from multiple sources, which meant that more than one copyright "owner" would make a claim. Since more than one entity claimed it, any monetisation would be forever locked in UA-cam escrow and none of these companies would get the ad revenue. I'm glad you don't have to resort to using this tactic right now, but it's good to keep in mind for the future.
Ive long wondered how that works when 2 entities lay claim to a video. Like zeppelin vs skynyrd on a 1 1/2 hr video they were only on for 30 secs lol. I do know for fact tho that anyone can hit you with a strike if they wanna. I had an album up on my old channel. I became friends with the bassist online, good guy. The band was reuniting, things were good. Then i got copyright struck on his album lol. So im like ay mate? Whats that?! (Theyre aussies lol) dude you striked me on yt! 'Oh nooo thats geoff the guitarist. He flipped out and is taking the other 3 of us to court over nonsense saying he owns us. So sorry bout that mate!" I got it, but youtube never did 😂
Quite the kerfuffle, but it's good to hear that NASCAR's own digital media division are also against these copyright claims and are working to get them all dropped. That's actually *very* encouraging for creators and a really surprising move by a big corporate body like NASCAR when 9 times out of 10 big corpos will be incentivised to claim videos. That's honestly a big deal and a nice little gift at the beginning of the new year.
NASCAR has always been encouraging all sorts of nascar content, including race reactions, so if you ever get claimed, it's like 99% chance and automated mistake.
It’s so annoying that this isn’t unique to the nascar section of UA-cam. This has happened with gaming and different sectors and yet UA-cam for some reason has not learned that their bots continue to screw over who actually matter which is the creators
When I received 3 separate copyright claims for an unlisted Assetto Corsa LMDh race that took place on Road America, I seriously thought it was because Nascar Media Group was going after youtubers the same way FIA goes after anyone livestreaming the 24 hours of Le Mans. Thankfully they all got lifted after I disputed them, but yeah …
I think there is a big difference between livestreaming a live sporting event and uploading a sim race. As someone who does watch free streams for different sports, I still think the sports owners should be allowed to take down streams of live sporting events. Copyrighting a sim race shouldn't happen but it shouldn't be compared to the FIA taking down livestreams
That's why I don't do hardly any other NASCAR videos, other than just diecast reviews. The Copyright System is broken, and it needs to be fixed. At least like 75% of it is all flawed.
It's why I've all but give up creating content. More so when I got those harassments emails when I've lost my monetary rights since May. Some getting claimed for the same video 3-4 times. My videos have also been shadow banned, especially when I'm not logged in. Granted, nobody cares about my other content that aren't red flags, but it's still petty to be harassed when I'm not a part of the monetary system. System is broken here and as I told Kamikaze, I'd be better off doing hot music takes than racing content. Just not worth it for me because I've appealed to no avail. Guys like you, nascarman and Brock getting those claims are bull because y'all do shit that has leverage.
We've had the same problem with News stories i our show uploads. Our footage comes direct from NASCAR Media via their Video News Releases. Thanks for uploading this as we'll now challenge those notices. Sadly this is becoming a major problem, we are now also having this problem with FIA WEC footage.
Slapshoes you are my favorite nerd with a southern twang on youtube. Really you have taught me that Nascar is so much more than good ol boys driving around in circles. It's shameful to see how far Nascar has fallen when they really had a good thing going in the early 2000's.
I'm just glad NASCAR isn't so stupid (corporate) so as to go after the historians and content creators like you and Brock they so desperately need. You guys are real treasures and that's no hyperbole.
Thank you for uploading this, for someone like me who is pretty new to this, this was very informative and makes me feel a lot better about disputing the claims
Rip Cale❤ I swear I was watching some guy jump a bus this weekend on YT and Cale just randomly spawned at the end. It was the best part of the whole event! Straight up Legendary.
Not gonna lie... the fact that these claims happened during the holiday season when everybody was taking their 2-week break is very alarming... almost like it was an attack by UA-cam against content creators. Wonder how this is going to pan out after the holiday season...
Man the copyright system is just broken as a whole. Bots auto-claiming stuff (especially with it being so aggressively retroactive?), someone being able to impersonate a company with little proof, it's ridiculous. Of course it won't matter until it hits the larger UA-camrs.
I had a copyright claim from NASCAR Media Group on my Conor Daly 2018 Indianapolis 500 video. No stock cars were even in that video. That was an easy appeal to do, but frustrating that it even happened in the first place.
Thank you for this valuable information. 👍🏆🏁 I'll use your video/your channel as a reference to my confused friends on the F1/CART/USAC/IMSA/WEC videos as to what has happened to videos posted decades ago and what the hell has been going on over the last three years (since 2020).
I somehow had a dispute rejected on December 27th. Tim actually responded to me on the Reddit thread and said he would look into it, but I haven’t heard anything in the four days since (which is understandable since most folks are on vacation this week, as you said). I share your optimism and I do think we’re coming out of it, but I can’t say it’s been as simple as “dispute it and it’ll get released eventually” on my end either…
This is why the automated systems aren't always an improvement. An automated system can only see the clip is in "copyright" status and can't see the actual usage of the clip. It's probably the worst way of performing copyright claiming. Also two weeks off? Damn. I just get the federal holidays unless I request something else😂. Love my job though.
NASCAR has got to be the most chill sport about the whole copyright thing. Certainly among racing series, the EU had to threaten F1 with legislation to get them to stop claiming copyright on any image taken on premises during a Grand Prix weekend. Yeah they actually reserved the right to claim copyright over crowd shots and pictures of concessions! Meanwhile there used to be all kinds of people on here who uploaded entire races with little to no commentary and NASCAR's like, "well we ain't using it so someone may as well.". Lol I know of at least once where NASCAR reached out to an uploader and asked for a copy because they were missing that race in their archive. You know I wouldn't have it any other way either...
@@nathanielhill5887 Oh wow! It was a long time ago and I wasn't directly involved so I'm not entirely sure. I may have been playing a little fast and loose with the terms there. I'm not 100% if they asked him for it or if he took it up on himself to send them a copy and he received a thank you in return? I know it was back when I watched UA-cam on PC instead of the TV like now so maybe early to mid 00's? It may have even had NASCAR in the channel's name because before that I had assumed it was something official from them. Sorry I can't be more detailed, if anything comes to mind I'll reply again.
Good on NASCAR for addressing this in an amicable way for NASCAR UA-camrs, they very realisitcally have every right to strike people down for using race content but they're smart and realize that creators like S1apSh0es help grow the sport in a very small way. I've been one of NASCAR's biggest critics over the yeasr (I still love it though--- worked in the industry many years ago), but good on them for doing something right and working to remedy it.
I had multiple videos just get claimed within the last week... I'm a very minor channel and don't post anything regularly at all. But this helps makes sense where mine came from as it's all related to NASCAR content (some even on iRacing)
I'm one of those small content creators, you're not the only one... Most of my videos are mainly NASCAR content, but I'm also in a Gran Turismo 7 league that involves the GT World Challenge as their main GT3 series using the Gr.3 cars, but I am also doing Ro-Racing... Doing this Late Model league on Roblox called the Yahoo Late Model Challenge. Funny thing, I've actually convinced Brayton Laster to join the Yahoo Late Model Challenge on Roblox knowing his Ro-Racing career. And plus, an irl Late Model driver Evan Varney is racing in the league too which should actually make things interesting.
Brock Beard and Slap getting copyright stricken is terrible for the sport. Yall two have done so much documentary level work for the sport in the last few years far surpassing what NASCAR/Fox/ or NBC have done
Aaaaaand UA-cam screwing up yet again. I swear, they do this on purpose, so THEY'LL get the ad money for a period of time. Looks good for Google shareholders
If there's one thing to help NASCAR is to embrace the community driven content rather than give them a strike. NASCAR is doing the right thing to help releasing all the claims and letting the community create the contents.
Channels like this have genuinely reignited my interest in auto racing. Firing out copyright claims like this is so frustrating. Hopefully they can wrangle the bots back under control.
The only reason I've ever even watched a NASCAR race is because of channels like this getting me interested in the last few years edit: ok so it's not NASCARs fault. I figured surely they're well aware of this kind of thing. These channels bring in fans they normally wouldn't get.
The videos don't even need to be _public_ for a copyright claim. With my channel being approaching banishment due to copyright strikes, I put all my videos into the _Private_ status; whereupon in the following months, I was notified of copyright claims on those *private* YT videos remaining in my channel. So, with those videos no longer visible, was it an internal mechanism in UA-cam to generate those claims?
I've done everything I can do to try to make money on UA-cam with the content I create, and it doesn't help one bit if I keep getting copyright claims left and right on a weekly basis.
Slap shoes I have been following you for a long while now man just wanted to say thanks for all the great content. A friend of mine swears up and down your tire war video on Hoosier and Goodyear should be on television that’s how good it is..
You don't wanna get our boy S1ap pissed! I too hate bots! Especially on social media.... JEEZUS! Don't me get started on those! I've had enough of damn bots!
I'm a small content creator that I make videos on Model Car Building. Many of them are centered around NASCAR and I cover quite a bit of NASCAR history in them. I used clips from old races and I got a couple of copyright strikes. For now I just made those videos private. I never permanently deleted stuff just in case. These are also videos of mine that have very long legs. W They are always getting a good amount of views no matter how old. So I would really like them back up for my viewers. Thanks for posting this video. I'm going to go contest those strikes.
Someone needs to contact Dale Jr about this. These videos are making nascar more interesting by a long shot! NASCAR needs to get real. They suck right now. If the history of NASCAR can't be told then you went get new fans. Dale jr. Is the key. He can explain this to NASCAR. They don't realize this is making new fans.. but Dale knows
NASCAR understands how valuable this platform is…it’s essentially free marketing that ultimately reaches new eyes who otherwise may not be familiar with NASCAR.
Another big sting point about December claims is that is the most watched month on YT so therefore it has the most revenue stream coming in during that time of year. So a copyright claim during that time period will hurt more.
I stopped uploading in March dude to the early signs of this so it’s been interesting seeing 20 emails a day since November of recent and older NASCAR clips getting copyright claimed.
Another data point. Kevin Smith Racing ( use the initials to generate channel name as YT will delete posts with channel names in it. ) had in car vid owned by him / the team preps the car for CR striked by NASCAR. The footage was at Sebring , in a Viper and the CR claimer said it was a NASCAR race.
I just saw this(NASCAR’s recent purge on many UA-cam videos featuring race footage was apparently done via an automated system. This might be because of NASCAR’s recent creation of NASCAR Classics. NASCAR is starting to release many of the claims, which is the right decision.)
UA-cam needs to get rid of the bots, it's just awful system. I got copyrighted on a GTA 5 stream for the music at the end of a heist, I can't disable that music.
they probably (nascar) just added a bunch of their archives to youtube's contentID system and it triggered the claims. Ive had that happen with other types of content. sometimes it can take the system a while to find matches, so there will most likely be more claims in the future
Glad to hear NASCAR isn't abusing the Copyright System against NASCAR creators, but these bots are really getting on my last nerves tbh... I get spam bots on Twitter liking my posts, following me, etc., and then we've got bots Copyright Striking, Comment Censoring, etc. here on UA-cam, and they're really getting annoying everywhere. What you guys thought NASCAR did with those Copyright Claims as stated in this video... Was falsely claimed. If you make S1ap pissed, you fucked up... Simple as that. R.I.P Cale Yarborough.🙏❤🕯🕊
I was the first banned by NASCAR about 15 years ago. They deleted 300 of 500 videos and their attorneys put copyright strikes on everything and were prepared to take me to court. At this point my page is a museum with 20 million views.
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have a safe and Happy New Year. Heres to better days and less intrusive, false claiming DMCA bots in 2024. PEACE✌️
There’s still plenty of commentators posting infantile comments about copyright ownership. You know, everything should be free, all the time, every day. The word is entitled. I am glad NASCAR has worked to change the situation.
Can you name the 9 tracks featured in the drone footage? Some are easy, some are hard.

I've been one of NASCAR's biggest critics over the yeasr (I still love it though--- worked in the industry many years ago), but good on them for doing something right and working to remedy it.
I was today days old when I learned what S1apShoes does when not making UA-cam content!
NASCAR Media Group: "You WHAT?!"
Dawg I had my entire 28 minute 2018 Indy Vlog claimed because I showed 7/8ths of a lap that played on the titantron 😡
Actually the kind of intern who would be doing stuff like this would absolutely be working in Christmas Day.
Your videos are my main into into NASCAR and how I've gotten into it. Hope it all works out.
S1ap, let me just say this: Yours is the ONLY NASCAR content I watch. Period. Grew up with it, have nostalgia for it - but it sucks now.
'smooth operator...'🎶
I find it hilarious the NFL copyright striked the dam of legitamacy video despite it actually saying the NFL is doing good for their dam lol
Sounds complicated and a mess! Thank you for your videos! Would love to see one on the history of Ford in Nascar! 🙂 Even GM as a whole and Dodge.
The UA-cam Bots is what hurts this site!
The only reason I've ever even watched a NASCAR race is because of channels like this getting me interested in the last few years
edit: ok so it's not NASCARs fault. I figured surely they're well aware of this kind of thing. These channels bring in fans they normally wouldn't get.
Utube needs competition.
It wasn't just NASCAR, I got several videos demonitized around that same time for music. Course I don't make any money anyway, but still.
You don't wanna get our boy S1ap pissed!
I too hate bots! Especially on social media.... JEEZUS! Don't me get started on those! I've had enough of damn bots!
I commented a little prematurely. Good to see NASCAR is working to fix it
I just found out about NASCAR Legend Cale Yarborough and that he passed away. Can you make a video dedicated to Cale Yarborough about his story?
So basically, the more that UA-cam can abuse the copyright laws, the less money they have to send out to creators.
They are always getting a good amount of views no matter how old.
2:10 What track is that? That infield road course layout looks really interesting.
Another big sting point about December claims is that is the most watched month on YT so therefore it has the most revenue stream coming in during that time of year. So a copyright claim during that time period will hurt more.
This is stupid that youtube creates bots that can't do their job
I stopped uploading in March dude to the early signs of this so it’s been interesting seeing 20 emails a day since November of recent and older NASCAR clips getting copyright claimed.
So in other words, I probably won't be able to do my planned 36 in 36 - 36 live race watches in 36 days leading up to the Daytona 500...
Alright guys I had a thought today. We are doing copyright ID all wrong. Lets write a bot that acts like a druken bar fighter!
Came here to understand what happened, I discover that everything is somewhat ok and Nascar Classics channel. 11 minutes well spent 🤝
I’m glad NASCAR is doing something about it. Shame UA-cam screws up and someone else has to clean up their mess
NASCAR is really smart and thoughtful to handle it this way.
They could easily just say F Off and not care about these claims.
they probably (nascar) just added a bunch of their archives to youtube's contentID system and it triggered the claims. Ive had that happen with other types of content. sometimes it can take the system a while to find matches, so there will most likely be more claims in the future
The bots got ksr performance & fabrication when he was at Road america in a dodge viper and they said it was Kevin Harvicks car.
How is a dodge viper even similar to harvicks car plus the car is red harvicks car is blue
@@KevinHarvickisnothappy4 It was his Budweiser car.
Reminds me of when UA-cam's auto-moderation bots started flagging robot combat videos as animal abuse.
What's that track from 1:55 to 2:58?
Are you watching the tulsa shootut
I was the first banned by NASCAR about 15 years ago. They deleted 300 of 500 videos and their attorneys put copyright strikes on everything and were prepared to take me to court. At this point my page is a museum with 20 million views.
Wait were you contacted by their lawyers?
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have a safe and Happy New Year. Heres to better days and less intrusive, false claiming DMCA bots in 2024. PEACE✌️
The ads during videos by UA-cam is pathetic nearly every five minutes
what track is the one at 2:00?
There’s still plenty of commentators posting infantile comments about copyright ownership. You know, everything should be free, all the time, every day. The word is entitled.
I am glad NASCAR has worked to change the situation.
I'm just glad there's aerial shots of tracks in Idaho used in this video.
Which ones?
@@FlashoftheBlades meridian speedway and The Mill in Emmett
He Slap! That last track, at the end in Meridian,. Is that Meridian, Idaho? If so, I used to live in the area
Yes
I cant find the song in the description someone help me out please😩
