I enjoyed the style that both of them brought to the screen. The chemistry that they had when acting out scripts. Looking back on that time Diana Rigg and Patrick McNee were a refreshing change from American TV at that time.
People age, but the wisdom of age is with her. She seems satisfied with her life. The great thing is, when she was young and hot, she was a near-perfect package. Pretty face, smoking body, lovely voice and speech, intelligence, eyes, hair and smile which has been preserved on film. Like a painting, only in motion.
I can recall being in elementary school early on and on an argument with two other boys as to which one of us was going to marry Diana Rigg when we grew up. Can you imagine, three nit wits, a whole continent and ocean away, arguing over a beautiful woman who was practically old enough to be our mother and never knew we even existed ! 😀
Diana Rigg was my girl. I remember looking forward to the show in Puerto Rico, and being able to see Diana. She was beautiful in the Avengers but she was also amazing in James Bond. Loved her smile and her beautiful eyes but above all she had a gorgeous body. She was awesome. Thank you for the great memories you gave me and continue to give me thanks to the internet. Of course I can't leave Patrick Mcnee out because he was the other half of the Avengers. They both complimented each other. Great actors.
She did not have a gorgeous body. She was flat chested and hardly had any hips. Her figure was girlish at best. Her beauty was in her smile, the twinkle in her eyes, the quickness in her wit, her confidence, the grace in her motion and the playfulness in her spirit. That made her irresistible. There were many women far more beautiful in that era, but none more appealing.
What a great and classic television series this was, I suspect she was hired due to her beauty, her quick wit and as a friend remarked, her 'class'. She was the most perfect feminine 'foil' for Patrick MacNee for the Avengers, I read they have been friends for many years now, ever since the airing of the series. I like how positive she is about her roles both on the Avengers and the Bond movie.
I've had a crush on this wonderful woman since the first Avengers series. I am delighted to see she is still alive, still working, and especially thrilled to hear that sultry, thoroughly British voice sounding so intelligent. Personal highlight: Hearing Mrs. Peel say "cojones."
Diana Riggs Emma Peel was my hero when I was a little kid. When 'Tara King' replaced her I was inconsolable. I just cried and cried. I mean seriously!! @;o ps, Good night Mr. Steed. RIP
now she's gone too. But i liked Tara King too she was innocent and very beatiful too. Nobody could replace the great Emma Peel but Linda Thorson did her best
@@brunopereiraikercasillas6265 Given the circumstances ( and being under Patrick's wing ), Linda Thorson came out extremely well; perhaps more so as time went on.
@@jeffsullivan2044 Agreed. Shame she didn't return in "the new avengers" but she did a great job in the avengers knowing the pressure she had on her and the fact she was inexperienced actress at the time.
@@brunopereiraikercasillas6265 Completely agree. I had hoped she would be back in the " New Avengers", but looking back, I grew quite fond of Purdey rather quickly. Lumleys performance was quite fun at times.
I LOVE this woman! She was the first female badass in my lifetime. In the 60s women like her were rare - she was always such a beauty and she can still act like nobody's business. Love for the Queen of Thorns!
Talented actors audition for roles. The Avengers provided a stable source of income and publicity. 85% of SAG actors are on the dole or waiting tables. Televised series would be a godsend for actors.
Thank you very much Richard for your precise description...I won't forget it! You're right, 20 years ago i would not have been able to read your post, but now we use screen-reader software to use the pc like normal people do...take care!
Err no, there weren't just two channels 08:38 - BBC TV started in 1932; ITV in 1955 - and BBC2 in 1964. So by the time Diana started The Avengers there were three channels. Thanks for uploading.
A fantastic actress in every role & throughout her life. What made Emma Peel an unforgettable character wasn't just her looks(all 60's actresses were sexy). She was brilliant, witty, strong & lovely. She was a completely woman men wanted & women admired.
How nice to see she doesn't take herself or her roles all THAT seriously. Dame Rigg still looks very pretty and if she's had any work done it must have been to a minimum as she seems to be aging naturally. Intelligent, attractive, sensitive and witty-she's STILL one of the best of England's Swinging 60's, IMHO.
What is disturbing is that she is STILL having to deal with asinine questions as to whether she 'regrets' doing the Avengers! Were Judy Garland alive wold she be asked if she regretted doing the Wizard of Oz? At what point does this patronage and exercise in stupidity cease? Does ANYONE actually think her role as Emma Peel was anything less than a spectacular success in EVERY respect? Dianna Rigg is this generations complement to Katherine Hepburn - giants all! Pure class.
One of my FAVORITE shows in the 60's ! Emma Peel and John Steed . Great acting and excellent show ~ How wonderful and sweet She is . What a Lovely Lady and yes she was Sooooooo sexy 💗
Curiously unfeminist in her thinking. Ms Rigg did not sniff about how life is unfair for her gender, but instead seized all that life had to offer a stunningly smart (in both senses of the word) British woman. And triumphed.
She is such a lovely vision, I loved seeing her on the Avengers and she was true and equal partner with Mr.Steed. I really enjoy she was Teresa the only true love of James Bond and had him want to leave Her Majesties secret service. I am so happy we got to enjoy her company for the time we did...
Remember the Avengers, it was a very popular show in America too, during that time it was the first of independent woman roles. She seemed more his peer.
Mrs Peel was VERY smart, with a science background, and so good at handling dangerous situations. In the Avengers wiki, John Steed was said to have had a fight in boarding school with------James Bond! I had also forgotten that Steed's bowler hat was a lot like Oddjob's. I love how Rigg comes across in this interview--down to earth, and not full of herself. It amazes me that she didn't think she was sexy. Millions of men knew better.
im just watching the show now i rented a season i didnt see it back then of course because it was more than 20 years before i was born but i thought diana rigg was very sexy as emma peel and it was a fun show
Beauty, brains and class! Had a HUGE crush on Diana Rigg back in the day! Her smile just made me melt. Just think when someone like a Miley Cyrus gets old and looks back on her career, all she will remember was that she was a skank!
Emma Peel..."Not sexy" Ha Ha!!! Well she/Emma was a kid crush big time. I wanted her to be my bodyguard in the 3rd grade LOL. Diana is a very proper British woman. Lovely!! :-)
Although still a honey, Ms. Rigg's face is testament to the effect of cigarettes. See her Game of Thrones close ups. Textbook nicotine creases. Having said that, don't think that I don't dearly fancy and admire her. Any 15 year old who saw Emma Peel's whip dance could not do anything but.
Sad to see her beauty has faded??..Did nobody ever tell you that beauty comes from within??...I hope your Daughter has beauty on all sides!!!!...Diana Riggs attraction to me was her charm and sophistication, coupled with her obvious intelligence and I guess her physical attributes helped just a little! ;o))
So funny Diana Rigg and Mary Tyler Moore were criticized for not being feminist - watch their shows now & they are more feminist than anything today. Lynda Carter has the best response to "objectification" - "Should we not look like women?" And this comes from Wonder Woman. Farrah Fawcett-Major's response to, "When did you first know you were beautiful?" "Just after hair & makeup showed up."
From what I have been lead to believe over the years, Diana was tagged as quite harsh, demanding and difficult to get along with. However she expresses gratitude for the opportunities she benefited from early in life, and I find her warm and engaging during this interview - a far cry from what I've heard. She is rather charming. And still very attractive, likely because she seems to have avoided the plethora of face lifts others have had done.
Porfle Popnecker Exactly! And credits her with writing most of their dialogue. She co-starred with Oliver Reed, George C. Scott, George Lazenby, Maggie Smith - she hasn't had an award-winning career for 6 decades working with those people - Olivier as well! - by being "difficult".
@nozmoking1 I very much doubt any of that is/was true. From the actors and actresses I've talked to over the years, they've all had nothing but very nice things to say about her as a person. I think you'll find that most actors who have worked with Diana Rigg have nothing but the utmost respect for her.
When she appeared on the scene in the Avengers, i felt safe..me, little child sitting on the carpet and watching her on tv. Now I'm blind...Does she look the same?
I had a big crush on her back in the day.
Diana Rigg still has it.
An amazing woman.
She's a Yorkie like myself, what do ya expect? haha
Such A Classy Lady....we ALL are the lucky ones who have had the pleasure to enjoy Diana Rigg's Gift.....Cheers From Ohio

God Bless you Dame Diana Rigg!
what strikes me most is how utterly EFFORTLESS she was in that entire series. She was simply breathtaking by virtue of her presence.
Absolutely and positively the best series of the 60's.
