Benjamin Boyce is actually how I found my way to this little corner of the internet thanks to his conversations with Paul VanderKlay. Benjamin has so many interviews with the type of people you know should exist, but don't seem to hear from.
@@christianbaxter_yt I know I found Benjamin Boyce in 2020, The Algorithm was recommending some of his detrans interviews. It was a while before I saw Paul for the first time, but I don't recall when that was.
@@lukefreeperson thanks brother! That’s awesome to hear, my favorite part was him talking about how he got to evergreen… : ) We need to do an in-person pod someday : )
Nothing about the theological and secondary political debate prohibits the deeper personal relationship. Gate keeping it allows the continued assault on any genuine spirituality and the subversion and deatruction of churches, growth of hostile new age, Islam etc. when it can be addressed. It multiplies internal arguments against insulation to feedback and allows continued losses that must be made up by fighting harder to regain. Gate keeping it out and taking the higher order spiritual and honest aspects to the exclusion of the debate and defense exacerbates the need for combat. You are right about what comes first. I don’t necessarily mean that you are doing that or excluding it, but it is an mo in many of these spaces. The needed debates, theology and political defense can easily be platformed from time to time and discussed. It’s painfully obvious many do not want it because it problematizes their position.
@@Ac-ip5hd I’m not sure if I 100% get what you are saying, but I think it’s something like don’t avoid talking about these things because that ultimately become part of “the problem” but that it can over take the personal and that’s when it devolves into losing meaning. Thanks for the feedback!
The IDW is IDW only so long as it remains inside the Overton Window of current normal. IDW can open the Window toward any direction, but cannot shift it without engaging with ideas on the fringes.

27:00 what Benjamin describes here strikes me as the difference between left brain and right brain ‘truth’. Is faith what you say? Or is it what you act out
Benjamin’s articulation here sounds very much like it could easily fit as a definition of Luke’s saying (and I loosely quote from no doubt faulty memory), “Persons over First Principles.” Earlier in the convo Benjamin highlighted the spirit of Kisin’s commitment to First Principles (i.e., ‘truth’ as such). I haven’t listened to his and Kisin’s convo but have heard Kisin in other places express his dedication to First Principles. The key to figuring out the reason for his devotion might lie in an analysis of his personal history of growing up in Soviet Russia, but really ultimately in getting to know Kisin as a person in vulnerable, generative conversation - which channels like yours, Christian, and others around the PVK orbit, strongly encourage and try to foster. The more ‘high status’ people that you and others like you can get to engage in these types of conversations, the better, in my view.
@@shoulderserf Agreed on the personal. I really felt like I was able to get a bit of both in my conversation with Benjamin. I loved hearing his story about getting to evergreen, but also his professional take on the landscape down stream from IDW. Hopefully some of this will continue to grow in the spaces ShoulderS.

I come from a British colony so in some ways I'm sensitive about British history and I think I understand Konstantine's ire at this attack on Churchill, because Churchill is not just Churchill which is why there has been so much attack on him. Being American one has extra distance from the topic so Benjamin kinda blundered into that. It's like an English person joining the people who want to cancel George Washington because you heard talk that he had slaves.
