Another point that I forgot to mention when discussing the movements, for the in-house caliber you are also getting a certified chronometer. I hope you guys enjoy the video! What are your thoughts on the Pelagos?

Thoughts on pelagos... a hugely underrated watch for sure, although i agree that it can be smaller, like a 40mm for the 500m water resistance.

I purchased a pre-owned Pelagos a couple weeks ago and I’ve been loving it. Originally was aiming at the ETA version but I fell for the blue-dialed variant so that decision was made for me. I have a 6.5” wrist and find that it wears well overall but my only gripe is the length of the clasp. When adjusted for the looser positions I find that it doesn’t quite hug my wrist as well as I wish. But overall definitely a winner!

I’ve had the privilege of owning 3 black bays and a Pelagos. I subsequently sold the black bays and swapped the Pelagos for a LHD, these are amazing watches.

Pelagos, for me the best watch ever. Pelagos is Pelagos, accept the size, and I hope Tudor understands that (don't make a fool of this perfect watch). It's not that big at all... I have a small wrist and it's just a piece of art, and it doesn't look big.

Love this watch. I was actually thinking of buying this watch recently.
Upon trying this watch on two, relatively minor, concerns stood out to me.
    1. The case height - this thing is thick. Even me, a 6’5’’ guy with a large wrist, found it to be much more than I could handle.
    2. The titanium is very light, but in making the watch feel light it loses that “high quality” feeling I have grown to love from, relatively heavier, tudors, rolexs and omegas made of steel.
Even though this is that case, this watch is made primarily to function and that it does very well.

I recently tried on both the BB and Pelagos and loved the Pelagos. Fits not too much larger than the BB (non-58) and has a way better bracelet. Looks the business. And in the lighter weight titanium, is way more comfy. Still, that vintage aesthetic of the BB just gives me the feels. The simplest solution: get BOTH!

I appreciate your comments Teddy, I am strongly considering the Pelagos over the Black Bay. I like the models that are less mainstream and this fits the bill. I like a 42MM vs a 41MM and I also like the rubber strap that comes with the Pelagos. I kinda like the more modern look also

I own both the Black Bay in red and the Pelagos LHD and I have to agree...the Pelagos just doesn't get the credit it deserves. Its titanium construction and the self-adjusting clasp make it one of the most comfortable watches in my collection. Even at 42mm, it wears very well on my small wrist. It far outperforms the Rolex Submariner as a diver and the antiqued/cream indices and red accents of the LHD variation look so good! As an avid collector, the Pelagos is easily in my top 3 and its versatility earns it the most wrist time of any watch in my collection.

This watch blew me away when it was released, it has a contemporary look that is hard to ignore. I love it, I just don’t get the appeal of the black bay and how it overtook the popularity of the Pelagos. My only qualm is that it is not particularly light. From the get go, the Pelagos seem to be THE Tudor watch, but it soon became overlooked, I just don’t understand why. I have a 7.5 inch wrist, it really suits me, one day I will get one. It’ll have to be used, as they do not hold their value, pity. A great review Teddy, thank you.

Go for it... I just have and it's a truly stunning time piece (both in terms of spec and proportions). Added to which, it's comfort is unparalleled. What I fell for most, however, is the masterful subtly of the marriage of tool-like performance and under the "look at me" aesthetics. Yes, it is an expensive indulgence, but you have to be a watch enthusiast to recognise it (unlike, say... Omega, TAG, Breitling) which suits me just fine. I'm a 7 and 3/4 inch wrist, so benefit from a 42mm looking and wearing more like a 40mm on an an average wrist... bonus! For a final bit of context; I have previously owned an Omega Plant Ocean and was disappointed from day one (ran +40 sec a day and was never able to be sorted and not that cumfy in everyday use). No such feelings with this, only my second premium watch purchase. Class combo of sports and elegance... enough said.

Hey Teddy. As you know I am a religious zealot for this watch. I do not know if Bobs Watches have the relevant availability but I think it would be good to look at the blue version, but especially the LHD as well, which has the roulette date and the yellowed lume, as well as some red text on the black dial.
For me, as a diver, Black Bay is for people in the pool, Pelagos is for people in the sea. I've taken mine diving various times and swam in France with it on an MN strap.
Regarding the size - yes it is 42mm, however the lug-to-lug width really needs to be considered when talking about watches at this size. It makes a hell of a difference and is a very important part of the overall consideration.

To me the Pelagos and Black Bay are a continuation of one watch, the Submariner. To re-release a new Submariner would be no fun and they'd have to hold on to their classic design while embracing a contemporary feel. But instead they've released two. One that has everything we love about the classic Sub and the other embodies the present with killer specs to boot.
Unfortunately I never took to wearing titanium, and after trying it on I disappointingly gave it back to the sales assistant and thought 'not for me'. But I do think Tudor has done something these two

@User 2389 I don't care either way but why is it inferior? Easier to service, part of the original model release... generally more accurate. In fact, a lot of collectors are starting to think that the original release with the ETA will actually be the one that hold or goes up in value. Be careful thinking that automatic watches are so special considering that humans were making clocks that kept a few seconds a day 200 years ago. There's nothing really that special about any of these watches until you get up into around a $20,000 piece. Don't fool yourself that there's something special about a Submariner movement etc... and no I do not own this watch or any ETA movements.

I was lucky to visit the local Tudor dealer the day he received the Pelagos LHD, Nov 2016. I saw it and could not believe it. It was number 16 of the series. I had to have it and still use it every other day.

Ti LHD with cream colors instead of white is my favorite...even for a right handed guy.
If it was avail in a say, 40 mm when I tried one one on I'd be wearing it now.
Thickness with the in house is a point well taken too

Thanks Teddy, I have a pelagos LHD and love it. It feel lights and comfortable and is just something a little different, I also got the Tudor GMT at the same time which is very different and for different occasions. The pelagos is my everyday watch and the gmt for now and again as looks a little smarter. I wish more people would look at the pelagos as it’s fantastic.

Super enjoyable watching your Tudor review!
I watched your channel couple days ago and immediately subscribed. Now become addicted your channel already!
You give such an superb informative on each review. Moreover, the way you pick and create stories is fascinating, especially James Bond watches review. That clip gives an extensive knowledge how Bond’s watches reflect the major trend of watch industry in each period. It’s first time ever I’ve learned from you that there exists seiko on Bond’s wrist!
I kindly ask you to review Omega Railmaster XXL 2806.52.37. I wish to hear your thought on this watch. I love this time piece (I’m originally from Thailand and rarely see this watch on preowned market) and hopefully want to get it on my wrist someday.
Please keep up with your great work. Cheers.

It’s quite simply one of the best tool / casual watches out there . Simple but everything is just executed to the highest standards. I think it’s very difficult to compare it to the bb. My pelagos and 58 sit proudly together and they are two absolute keepers .if required My Rolexes would be shipped out long before these two fantastic pieces.

I think you mean fixed rather than fixated when speaking about the clasp. You also didn't mention that titanium is hypoallergenic. Anyone who can afford the Pelagos with the in-house movement should certainly choose it over any other of the Tudor watches. I was impressed enough to buy one in blue as my everyday watch and I have been very pleased.

Amazing tool watch. I normally agree with smaller = better (39-40), but in this case, the proportions are perfect and certainly wears smaller on the wrist!

I really love my 2nd generation Tudor Pelagos, would always add it to my watch collection and I've never quite understood the hype around the Black Bay line. The only improvement I'd suggest to the Pelagos, is to upgrade the material to grade 5 Titanium. With the current hardness of the Ti, the watch seems to get dings and scratches by simply looking at it 😉

    • @laszloszentirmai2280
      @laszloszentirmai2280 4 роки тому

It is Grade 5 from the beginning. All grades of titanium scratches more easy against stainless steels (check the Rockwell scale). The tool watch needs scratches, like real men need scars. The most important is the robustness, and the everyday wearability.I don't care about scars, they make my watches more mine from day-to-day.

Very nice review as always Ted! As an owner of both Rolex and Tudor I'm able to say that although my recent Pelagos with the in-house movement is indeed a bit bulkier than my Rolex Datejust 41 for an example the difference is significant yes but not a deal breaker.
For anyone who's reading this don't get me wrong: I'm not, in the slightest into big cases BUT for the Pelagos I think this doesn't apply. NOW if we were talking about massive case sizes I had a Romain Jerome DNA Moondust (steel, rubber and carbon fiber in the case) with an exceptional blue dial) and I guarantee what I'm going to say to anyone: the case on that watch puts Panera to shame (whether it's been on size or thickness).
    Nevertheless exceptional review.
    Regards from Brazil.

Enjoyed the review! Last summer I was looking to purchase another everyday watch and with the way things are at Rolex these days I found the Tudor Pelagos LH a unique option in titanium with the unusual Left hand wind, roulette date and dive features that are really appealing and readily available at a price that's hard to match. Personally, I don't care for the sliding clasp feature and my folding extension was all scratched up the first time I used it. Over all I love the watch and enjoy it on a Horus red digital camo rubber strap.

I have owned many watches. Lower cost watches than the Pelagos. The most recent being an SKX007. I wanted a Rolex but I didnt feel the cost was a responsible thing in my position. I bought the ETA Pelagos and have never looked back. I’d still own a Deepsea but there is much less desire. I love everything about the Pelagos. Understated, Tough, Quality. Its the same qualities I expect out of myself. I dont drool over watches anymore. This one fits me and someday will belong to my son and hopefully his son.... Great great watch.

Good video, thanks! I really wanted a Rolex Sub, but have been put off by the price (I don't think it's worth it) and by the non-existent availability at an AD. A friend had mentioned a BB58 he had bought last year and at the time really didn't think about it much as I am very much an Omega man. I started seeing more adverts and marketing at watch shops over the last few years for Tudor, but have been ignorant. Recently, I have looked into Tudor and have been fascinated and was drawn to the Pelagos more than the BBs (from pictures). For me, coming from mainly Omegas, the idea of having a titanium watch, in-house movement, 600m waterproof (I know I will probably never go below 20m) for the current price of the Pelagos was totally insane! I soon realised that this is some seriously underrated watch. Well, I got one last week, the 2nd the AD had sold that day. I even got a discount. I love it, seriously nice watch. Some mention it is too thick, well, it's thinner than my Seamaster 300 which is one of my favourites. When it comes to the diameter, it's the same as my Speedmaster Moonwatch. The Pelagos does not wear like a 42mm wide, 14mm thick beast, the dimensions are deceptive and it's worth always trying it on. I personally think they should not mess with the size as it is perfect. It needs to be this big for a nice clear screen that can be read easily, it's a functional tool watch. If I want a smaller watch, I'll get a BB58, but have my eye on the BB bronze. The Pelagos is definitely a keeper and one of the most underrated watches out there, I think Tudor watches are all underrated.

  • @4liter

I found the ETA version of the black bay to wear very tall and look almost a little frumpy. I think that was due to the smaller size but thicker case. And it was almost too vintage. The factory blue perlon strap was fantastic, the bracelet left some to be desired though.
The thing I love about the Palangos is that it’s not a blatant vintage homage. It juxtaposes new tech (like the bezel, i’ll titanium construction, the fantastic bracelet) against the heritage of the Tudor subs, with the snowflake hands and the 2-line dial. 👌🏼👌🏼

I really like this watch...As far as the size is concerned, I truly believe that 42 is just perfect cause it gives the right presence on the wrist and better legibility. Don't forget it's a divers tool watch and some extra mm in the diameter won't look off on anyone's wrist unless it's smaller than 16cm. Check out the NTH Näcken watch which is a very nice affordable and well made homage

I owned a LH black dial in house movement Pelagos for nearly a year now, love it though I own a Rolex sub and a GMT , it wears nice and pretty light since it’s made of titanium, the watch lumes at night like an alien craft and puts the Rolex lume to shame, beautiful piece and I think it’s going up in price too

I’ve had mine since 2013. I love it and it’s stayed in my collection as it’s so comfortable on the wrist and very under the radar. The titanium case and bracelet still look in great shape but the steel clasp is a mess of scratches and dings.

I love the watch it had a blue one but I would not say under-the-radar because people ask me about it all the time primarily because they say it looks gigantic and they couldn't help but see it. So, my experience is the opposite of yours but either way I still like the watch!

Almost bought a Pelagos earlier this year, but because I had a chance to get a great deal on a Tudor bronze, I went for the bronze instead. I’m used to a larger watch with my Panerai watches so I like the way it looks on my wrist and kind of looks like a vintage watch now some 6 months later.
