    In the slide at 8:30 alpha state had spin +1/2 but when we tarted discussing Blotzman (13:40), alpha state became -1/2. Can anyone clarify?

    @ 3:56 The protons in your body do NOT align when the external field is put on. They start precessing (23:45)! Some precess in the up-state, some in the down-state.
    @ 8:30 The product of h and B does NOT give an energy! In units: [ h . B ] = J.s . T. The Tesla (T) does not cancels the s in J.s.

      I have a doubt. Why does a nuclei precess in the first place? why doesnt it just align in the direction of mangetic field axis and rotate.

      @@tanmoydutta5039 Protons precess because almost no proton has a magnetic moment in the direction of the external B-field. It's like a spinning top. As long as the top is aligned with Earth's magnetic field it does not precess: ua-cam.com/video/IhEp72u3Sfo/v-deo.html

      @@tanmoydutta5039 They start precessing because they are always spinning. If the spin wasn't there, then they would align like you said.

    sir ,at 29.32 u said that there will be more nuclei in alpha state and +Z .which will create net magnetic moment +z but earlier u said for NMR sensitive there should be more nuclei in beta state. pls , explain it .

    Why not all the spins get aligned parallel to the external magnetic field (ground state)? Why only few spin are anti parallel (higher energy state)? What quantum mechanical principle limit this population distribution?

      All nuclei does not have same energy or magnetic property depending upon their magnetic property they align. Hence...

      They don't align, because they are spinning. Alignment of spinning protons/magnets is non-sense!

      temperature of the sample and therefore thermal energy. liqui helium is sometimes used. he explains this concept with the boltzman formula

    what are alpha and bita states , in atom there is energy levels but in Nucleus there is no states right?

    How come Deuterium has a net spin, it has only one proton and one neutron

      Proton + Neutron = Deuterium. Thus, spin-1/2 + spin-1/2 = spin-1
