Sad part is this show was actually awesome. There were real life and death conflicts, new secrets and a mythology to this world. Not to mention the episodes that did deal with issues that made it feel like a continuation (Jane adapting to living in the jungle and missing England, Tarzan struggling to be a leader while also facing Kirchek's old enemies).
They don't really sugar coat much as well, they acknowledge Clayton's death (in the episode where his sister attempts to get revenge and goes full on saw on Tarzan) and Tarzan's parents.
Don't let the animation downgrade fool you, this series has effort in it and did tell a full story in it's 30 episode life span. It's similar to the Aladdin series in a way.
This "film" does not do the series justice, picking easily some of the more weaker episodes and barley tying them together. If they were going to do that, why not do the badass episodes. Where's the Leopard queen episodes? Where's the episodes dealing with possible wars between species of animals?.
You can find all 30 episodes easily online. Just watch them all to truly appreciate how awful this movie is at representing the series.
The Nightosphere Resident, what website?
The Nightosphere Resident
Ooh that peaks my interest. Sounds like a pretty cool show I might check out when I have time.
Angel Castaneda I would check kiss cartoons if I were you
I hear that, its not perfect but the show is 10 times more interesting than this anthological jungle turd.
I do remember that series, then I saw how lame this movie was in comparasion.
Fun fact, this was actually the last direct-to-video Disney sequel my mom bought, because all of us kids got really tired of these movies and told her we hated them.
The Lion King 2 isn't so bad.
@@krishnaobrien3394 Neither was The Lion King 1 1/2
@@travisdelafuente1150 True!!
"They couldn't even bring Phil Collins back!"
Wait, I thought that would be a good thing for you. You *despise* Phil Collins.
TheJustin4848, he did!
He's saying that it shows the budget was low and that one of the main draws for the movie (even if it's not his taste) was gone.
Jesus Christ.......he doesn't hate Phil Collins, he just disliked the songs. Why does everyone make a big deal about this?!
@Snowflake, because he's constantly told Phil Collins to go fuck himself instead of giving constructive criticism?
TheJustin4848 He was obviously exaggerating. And he did mention how the songs just felt distracting to him. I don't know why people get so sensitive over this.
You're really gonna leave me strapped here next to less angry Rosie O'Donnel?
Good one!
This isn't the pilot or the first episodes. They're three episodes of the already existing "The Legend of Tarzan" cartoon
So... the reject episodes?
Dragon Sword Not sure
Scott Sandler, cause this is Filler! Filler night!
I'd say more like an extended clip show.
I saw them on TV a couple of times
Just wait for Atlantis ll, which is kinda the last of these anthology films.
Rob Bob, let's hope for that
and the most boring.
Is not supose he already do a comment about that movie on his older channel?
That "movie" is SO uncomfortable as they couldn't even tie together the stories which ALL in different places around the world
And that was supposed to connect with Gargoyles I think...I could be wrong.
>Anyone who comes to an island, not wearing a dress, is gonna be a dick.
Fair argument.
Irish men come to the island in kilts
to be fair, the show was actually kind of awesome.
Harman Smith as far as I know, everything from the Disney Saturday and Disney afternoon is gone. Disney really tries to keep it's stuff offline. I wish they'd lighten up and either start selling dvd boxsets or let people put the episodes on the net. right now, they're all just rotting away in the Disney vault.
Harman Smith there is a website where you can watch all of the old Disney show
Yeah, I remember there were dinosaurs and weird leopard people and an evil sorceress, right? Not much to do with the source material, but still pretty badass.
Agreed!!!
KillingDead Studios really? what's the website?
I saw this when I was really young, and I think the fact that I remember next to nothing about it other than that I saw it speaks for it's quality.
I remember the Tarzan tv show had *leopard men!*
So that already makes it better than _Tarzan & Jane_.
Are we talking Leopard-men, men dressed as Leopards or Leopardmen.
@@magnusm4 in the original novel there was a sacred city called Opar of men dressed as leopards
In the show they are literal hybrids under the command of the sadistic Queen La
There is an episodr where they revel and try to go back to their original form, Jane says they were transformed into these monsters by La and just want their normal lifes back. The big twist at the end is that they were never men turned into leopards... they were leopards turned into men!
Belle's Magical World, Cinderella 2, now this
I Don't think that Tarzan and Jane is that Bad (I Like the The Legend of Tarzan Series)
Jay Play, wait for Mulan II
And then we got Milo's Return! :D
Does that count? Is a tv series.
And this thursday, Atlantis ii.
The animated series was pretty good though from what I remember. It had some pretty good episodes.
Well, that's because some of the episodes were actually based on some of the sequel books written by the original author Edgar Rice Burroughs. Like the episode where they discovered an underground world of dinosaurs in which Tarzan had to fight some of them, that was an actually story in the original novels. Keep in mind this was the same guy who wrote the John Carter books.
That was actually Jim Cummings playing Tantor (the Elephant) in this movie
The master?
I remember the TV series was enjoyable and built on some of the Edgar Rice Burroughs novels. It had several genuinely good episodes.
Never saw this though.
That one girl must be into some weird kinky stuff. "Cage? He's got a cage?"
ruthiehenshallfan99 I wouldn't call it weird though.
Speaking about the TV show itself, I actually liked
"The legend of Tarzan" when I was little. Yes, maybe the animation wasn't perfect, but it still had some more brightness to it and some more light and shadows. And the stories were actually pretty deep than other shows like this used to be. And I thought it was interesting to see Tarzan dealing with his new life with Jane and the professor as a part of his life. And the same for Jane and get to know some more people from England that she and the professor knew. :)
To me the way I do see Tarzan and Jane was pretty much a final to the tv show as it meant to show the cast now a little older after one year and talking about past adventures and How things happen in there lifes and the last moment was meant to show Tarzan and Jane still working things out but still having adventures we will never get to see as it like looking at any flashback episode showing where the cast are now and how far they've came
@comicbookreviewer4856 Yes, exactly what I meant! The TV show was the start and "Tarzan and Jane" was the end and their happily ever after! :)
@@MsBerann to me was a good way to end the series as doing a final means giving it a good send off something ed edd n eddy and Samurai jack got right
Disney sequels didn't learn about geometry, this makes them *pointless*.
TheLemonyLemon I like the pun
Don't be such a square
Don't be so *sphere-ocius*.
I didn't even know this movie existed
I think that's the better because this movie SUCKS
Emi Froy, is it better or worse than Tarzan II?
Is worse than Tarzan II
Emi Froy, Thanks Homer.
Your welcome
2:32 I think that was April Winchell (The voice of Sylvia of Wander Over Yonder.)
gamefan6219 that is her and it's awesome
Always love the Disneycembers! Thanks for taking one for the team and watching all of the sequels xD
MaihacchiMonkey, what team?
This wasn't even a pilot, at the time of the release, The Legend of Tarzan was already out, Tarzan and Jane were just 3 unaired episodes put into one
That callback to Congo for the old NC viewers was much appreciated.
Scott Bartek, Tickle Me
YES!
DID YOU GET THE DIAMOND?!
That's alot of fish.
NO! NO! THE CALLBACKS ARE HERE!
Hell might be a nice place for Doug to visit after seeing the sequels lol
Okay, the "He's got a ~cage~" thing sounds kind of funny, actually.
I member the TV show being fantastic! Especially the villains, Evil elephants, hippos, crocodiles, massive gorillas, a mystical tribe, some bounty hunter chick dressed in leopord skin and a 150 foot long python.
It was awesome!
Tulga Badrakh don't forget Dinosaurs and Teddy Roosevelt
''Oh please, Mr. Roosevelt was my father, just call me...Mr. President :D'' that part for some reason cracks me up XD
“They Were killed by sabor the leopard. In this room. Right There.” Will always make me laugh 😂
So, going off the reviews Doug has given thus far, I'd guess this would be his order so far, from favorite to least favorite:
1. Aladdin & The King Of Thieves
2. Pocahontas 2: Journey To A New World
3. Lady & The Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure
4. The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride
5. The Return Of Jafar
6. An Extremely Goofy Movie
7. The Little Mermaid 2: Return To The Sea
8. Tarzan & Jane
9. The Hunchback Of Notre Dame 2
10. Cinderella 2: Dreams Come True
11. Belle's Magical World
Tailslover13, 11? How many are left?
say what you want i still think goofy movie 2 was better than the first.
I have no idea how many are left; I would guess about 15 or so? He said he didn't have QUITE enough to fill all of December, but I think he still has a ways to go. Oh, and yeah, basically from what I've gathered in what Doug has said, these would be his "recommendations" for these movies:
1-5: These are decent movies for what they are, so even if they aren't all that good, they aren't terrible, either. If you want to watch a Disney sequel, these will do you alright.
6-8: These movies are bad and not enjoyable, but not the WORST things ever. They're slightly decent, but that's not saying much. A few good things and that's it.
9-11: Do not watch these movies at all. They are trash, they are insulting and boring, and they are garbage. Pretty much nothing of worthwhile in them at all.
That's what I gathered from Doug's reviews thus far.
Jane was portrayed by Olivia D'Abo in this movie and the tv series. Olivia also portrayed Tak in Invader Zim and Star Sapphire from the recent Justice League Cartoon as well as Justice League Doom.
Lol, why does Doug keep saying "the island"? Tarzan takes place in Africa.
What is a Continent but a really large island, both are surrounded by water so what's the difference!!! (sarcasm intensifies)
I think he forgot where Tarzan takes place. Still considering he's had to watch atrocities like HBOND 2 I can forgive the lapses in his memory. He probably purged a few parts of it just to forget the sequels he's reviewed.
Africa has islands. Ever heard of Madagascar?
+Freezepond Yes, but Tarzan takes place in the coastal jungles of equatorial Africa. Look it up on Google Images. It's very pretty.
Was the location ever specifically mentioned in the movie though? From what I noticed, Disney isn't the most geographically or historically accurate when it comes to films.
tarazan and Jane is bad but the tv show its good
Qassim Adel, I like the show too
Angel Castaneda
ya it was good bater then disney chanel 2016
Qassim Adel They're one in the same. Three episodes of the cartoon
Scott Sandler
Ya i know and these episodes wear bad but the rest of the tv show is gooooood
If you mean the sitcoms yeah, but their animation is pretty damn good
Milo Murphy law
Star vs The Forces of Evil
Star Wars Rebels
Pokemon
Why don't they have a child yet? If not where does Tarzan get condoms? In fact why not make a movie about their child and bring Tarzan to London.
because then you just made George of the Jungle 2
Stephen Marco Yeah I suppose so
Scott Buckley I actually died at this comment. 😂
Scott Buckley Maybe one or both of them is sterile?
Asking the important questions because they gotta be fucking cause if they ain't WHAT ARE YOU DOING, JANE?! COME ON!!
A lot of these sequels now that I think about it seem like ok fanfiction. Especially one-shots.
When I first saw this film and saw that they referenced an episode from the show, I thought it was just a passing reference.
Then it played the rest of the episode.
And then it played two other episodes.
And that was it.
I remember really liking the show as a kid
Did this come out before or after the TV series? Cause I remember those being actual episodes.
This is the actual TV series. They put together three episodes and sold them as a movie even though they'd already been aired.
Tyler Bioshock R
Yes. It was just a compilation of already aired episodes.
After. They edited down a couple of episodes.
+TheZeldaExperienceWithin That actually makes it worse
At the very (and I mean very) least, this has a reason to exist, to tell the tales of what happened after the movie. Tarzan II doesn't have a point at all, they start with Tarzan as kid mis-placed in this world, but since that's the conflict of the first movie, it doesn't get resolved, they give some half-assed solution and all of the new characters vanish basically going back to square zero from where it was.
Me: *glances at Netflix*
Netflix: *adds it to Netflix”
Me: -“I hate you”- “I DESPISE you...”
Which sequel do you think is worse, Tarzan 2 or Tarzan and Jane? I think it's Tarzan 2 for being completely pointless, and making George Carlin be in a terrible movie.
Giovanni Orellana Why is it that there's so many pointless Disney sequels?
Mortilum Well, to quote the Cat and The Hat review, "We've got to have, Money!"
Giovanni Orellana I like Tarzan 2
Daphne Wilkie Why, that's okay, but why do you like it?
well unless you wantt o count planes hey kinda stopped making them.
The tv series were awesome tough.
Not gonna lie, I watched this movie quite a few times when I was younger and really enjoyed it. I guess now its time to see how much nostalgia has blinded me.
Junglehero127, Don't worry. I used to see Patch's London Adventure quite frequently.
It was set on an island...? I must have missed that episode...
The DVD menu had a choose your own adventure thing in it, so I thought that was pretty dope as a child.
This animation looks similar to that Kangaroo Jack movie that I saw as a kid.
Holy shit, I thought I was the only one who knew that existed! I might still have the DVD actually.
Kangaroo Jack was a let-down...mostly because the misleading-as-all-fuck trailers and that actor who played as Charlie...god he was soooo horrible.
Other than that, the movie was actually pretty solid.
In case you don't know, Critic, the voice actress for Jane in this was Olivia D'Abo. You gotta admit, it was a pretty good performance.
What is it with some of these sequels being just three stories that feel like TV episodes?
Alex Ramirez Because they ARE TV episodes. This is the only case where a show WAS aired (The Legend of Tarzan)
+Scott Sandler shit movie, ok show... by my memory
You know its bad when Doug is moaning that there is NO Phil Collins!
Queen La from Legend of Tarzan series was hot though.
The woman voicing Jane in this is Olivia d'Abo, who played Karen Arnold from Wonder Years and voiced Morgaine le Fay from the Justice League cartoon (both the original and Unlimited)
Huh. I thought 101 Dalmatians 2 was going to be next.
TheDreweMaster, me too
Angel Castaneda I just looked up the dates these two came out, and it turns out this one actually came out first. 101 Dalmatians 2 is tomorrow.
I wonder if he will review Pooh's Grand Adventure this year.
TheDreweMaster, My bad.
Angel Castaneda Mine too. 😆
TheDreweMaster, :)
Remember when Tarzan teamed up with Theodore Roosevelt? =D A favorite.
Please do Pooh's Grand Adventure!
Now that was a good movie! It would be a good tonic for him after the hell we've put him through.
Levon Gevorgyan I've seen a few other people ask him to do that one, and if I'm not mistaken it was one of the first DTV sequels. Maybe he'll save it for the end.
Or we should just spam his comment sections about it (half joking).
It is one of the best Disney sequels, so dark for a children's film, but I loved it as a kid still do. My only complaint was that the skullosaurus wasn't real, and the ending was completely lackluster. Besides that I love this movie.
Maybe he'll do it next year with all the other Pooh movies, or by popular demand. It's not even a sequel.
And the Tigger Movie.
Huh, I actually liked Tarzan II. Then again, I was a kid back then, so it most likely hasn't aged well.
This movie exists? Whattttttt, was I living under the rock?
You're not alone. That's how I was with HALF these sequels.
SBells27, That's all right. I regret watching it.
I would have to look it up, but I think Olivia d'Abo (aka Karen Arnold from "The Wonder Years") did Jane's voice. I know she did the voice of Jane for the animated television series. The animated series was interesting because they did take things from Burroughs' Tarzan novels, like bringing in the lost city of Opar. If I'm remembering correctly, that is.
What is the worst sequel you have ever seen
Wanting to Become a meme, Batman and Robin
The one I hate the most is Bell's magical world
Atlantis II is my least fav.
You know what sucks? They made a 4th Beauty and the Beast movie called "Tales of Friendship". Basically its "Belles Magical World 2".
Jacob Carpenter wait what?! explain and link to it now !
I can’t believe I had this movie as a kid my kindergarten self was obsessed with young Tarzan now I love both the kid and the adult in the tv show and first movie they made tarzans face so attractive and passionate here he feels like a useless prop
...Island? What "island?" You mean... Africa?
I only saw a few episodes of the show, and it was at the point where I was only watching for morbid curiosity, all I can remember liking was that in one episode when he has to fight a giant python, Tarzan raids his parents biology books and finds out that his enemy sees in heat, relies heavily on smell and is reliant on their warm surroundings in order to be highly energetic, so he covers himself in mud, leads it into a valley covered in cold mud due to a lack of sunlight and fights it there, and then there was an episode where he met Teddy Roosevelt during one of his safaris which I just like the idea of.
So close to the lilo and stitch sequels
Tenth Doctor, how many are there?
Angel Castaneda 3
Angel Castaneda and a tv series
I think I actually watched this film as 3 episodes in the series. I know I never watched Tarzan and Jane but I recall 2 of the storylines.
The three stories here were either episodes of the show first and repackaged into this “movie” or they were reaired as episodes after the movie was released. Idk which came first but yes these stories were at part of the show’s second season. In fact they are the only episodes in the second season.
I love April Winchell, the voice of Clarabelle Cow, Pete's Wife Peg, and Sylvia from Wander Over Yonder, but her as Terk just doesn't work.
April Winchell is the daughter of the late, talented Paul Winchell, the original voice of Tigger
SSlovebird me too my favorite character is Sylvia
To be fair unlike all the other anthology "sequels", Tarzan and Jane was picked up. And the show itself was pretty good for a Disney afternoon show.
Are you going to review the TV series? I really wanna see it XD
the series was actually pretty good
Probably one of Disney's best TV spinoffs, anyone I meet and bring it up to liked it.
+TheLastRaven6 yeah the show in some areas is quite good.
I remember the TV show, and as a TV show it was pretty good. When I watched it with my grandpa he said it reminded him a lot of the Tarzan serials he used to watch as a kid. It really did the "what happened after" thing well since Tarzan could have all sorts of different adventures that could be wrapped up in 30 minutes (and there were a couple of story arcs and continuity from what I remember).
Yeah, the movie was shit, but the series was decent
I hit the floor laughing over what Doug says about Phil Collins at 0:45. If you know what he said about Phil before, you will lol too.
Fun fact: Disney does not own Tarzan
***** Haha
***** And I'm fairly sure it's actually not public domain suprisingly
I watched a lot of these when I was a kid, I remember this is the only one I couldn't get through.
I would much rather watch Congo than Tarzan & Jane, especially after that surprise appearance of Tim Curry!
Oscar Stainton, and Bruce Campbell
The Tarzan series had an episode with Bruce Campbell.
I can verify that; Bruce Campbell played a heavyweight boxing champion on safari in the jungle who accidentally gets knocked out by Tarzan. He challenges the reluctant Tarzan to see who would win in a rematch.
Oscar Stainton, what is the name of the episode?
Oscar Stainton I thought he was the narrator slash writer in that episode, been a while though.
I always wanted to see Tarzan and Jane... I didn't realize I already had when I watched the cartoon series.
I still really liked the story's when I was young and hey, that Tarzan tv show was great
2:03 actually these 3 episodes were apparently supposed to be the last 3 episodes of the tv series. (Or possibly the start of season 2) the tv series came out in 2001 when this movie came out in 2002. so this wasn't a movie test for a tv series. this was a movie with 3 episodes that never aired.
I can't be too mad about this one since I loved the Tarzan show as a kid. Hell, I even remember way more episodes than I thought I'd be able to
Remember in the cartoon when he ran into a witch who could turn guys into jaguar men with ACTUAL magic? Or the episode where they found an underground cavern full of fucking dinosaurs???
I don't remember much about the show itself, but it had some pretty effing awesome moments, lol
First of all, don't you know how conversations work? You can start talking to a friend about a memory and because your friend was a part of it they can contribute. Also the Tarzan tv show was the coolest kid show on Saturday Disney when I was a kid, so another 3 episode in a movie is great!
Nitpick: The one thing that always bothered me about this "movie" is that Jane's new jungle outfit that appeared at the end of the "first" Tarzan movie never appears.
Although I believe it reappeared towards the end of an episode of the TV series.
In the TV show, Jane wears the "new" jungle outfit from the first movie as a swimsuit.
Tarzan's neck at 2 min omg
Can't unsee the thick neck
This unlike the others was not a start of a show but the end. The show came out on it's own and has a full first season with people working on a second season but it got cancelled so the three episodes that they did finish turned into this movie for season two. I actually liked it and it did give good stories about Tarzan and Jane, I honestly don't care if you liked or hated it get it right what it was. It instead of starting a series was the best they could do to end it and that I say puts it a lot higher on the scale then the other anthologies.
I remember watching the Tarzan Animated series on Diggit ( UK Disney morning show) I remember liking the Intro.
Omg the intro was great, and perfectly settled how epic the show itself was.
I remember showing kids doing the tarzan yell.
I saw it on TV, it was great, used to be one of the CW's afternoon cartoons, not great as a movie no, but when your moms a teacher and you have to wait in her classroom for a couple hours it's a god sebd.
Last time I was this early this meme was still relevant.
General Hux, Traitor!
Hmm, I clearly remember watching these as episodes of the TV show.
FYI: The guy who played Elane's boss is John O'Hurley, now better known as the previous host of Family Feud before Steve Harvey took over. :D
"We get that later!"
He hates it lol
you should of talked about how vines literally just come out of nowhere throughout the whole movie just so Tarzan has a motive to get from point A to point B lolololol
I do remember liking it as a kid. I've not watched it since then!
Honestly from what i remember: when the tarzan series aired (or its reruns, i dont know when it aired) but i swear the three stories here were adapted into episodes. And one episode actually an ape character who was in the book
Tarzan looks surprisingly good in a suit
Elaines boss was my favorite part when I watched it. I love Seinfeld!
I remember liking the show as a kid, but I nearly forgot this compilation movie even existed
I never really minded this movie because Tarzan and Jane were my favorite Disney couple when I was growing up. And I still have a bit of a soft spot for it.
I liked this a lot as a kid, but Tarzan is one of my favorite movies.
I think these were actually split up into episodes for the tv show, cause I don't remember watching the movie, but i definitely remember the diamonds episode
3:12 - Omg, did this inspire a moment from Zootopia where Judy saves Nick from the savage panther!?
I watched the legend of Tarzan and I think the TV show is pretty good, I like it very much.
I remember these but I never saw them in "Tarzan and Jane" but in standalone episodes from the series.
I can't hate this one, I loved it when I was a kid.
Olivia D'Abo did the voice for Jane in this. You know, Master Luminara from the SW prequels?
yeah I remember this, I remember liking it
Confused Theory I have not seen it in years haha, I only remember tarzan breaking guns and saving those diamond miners from lava
I've watched this countless times and it still seem half assed
