My favorite review from Siskel and Ebert was their review on Godzilla:
Ebert: What did you think of Mayor Ebert and his side kick Gene?
Siskel: I thought it was petty.
Ebert: I guess the only good thing about this movie is that Godzilla didn’t step on us.
Siskel: But Roger I fully expected that happen and I think the audience was waiting for that to happen.

You can make stupid dumb fun, but you can make stuff like Inside Out, Zootopia, the Avatar series finale (it was two hours when it premiered so it counts), The Land Before Time, the newer Spongebob movie. They can be just as good as films for more mature audiences if not better, and I think that they should be.

Considering that I read Ebert's reviews of the first two Home Alones and remember how much he hated them, I'm kind of with Siskel on this.
They never let the Cop and a Half thing go. After Siskel died, Ebert wrote about when they disagreed. "I liked Cop and A Half and he never understood why."
Many like Ebert's "I hated hated hated hated this movie" about North but the one that gets me is Siskel's "No, Boredom! Boredom with Benji Running!"
One of my favorite Ebert reviews was one of The Lonely Guy with Steve Martin. I never heard of it but he hated it. But Ebert was so descriptive about the rainy day and the condemned theater that he saw it in. He said, "It's the kind of movie that you would see on a day like that." He hated the film but one line he said in the review was "Hey I was going to the movies." It showed that he could watch the worst movies, but he loved the experience of going to the movies. He loved his job that much. Like me I could read the worst books to review but I love doing it because I love reading that much. It also shows that sometimes outside forces project our opinions on a work and despite evidence to the contrary, we critics and reviewers are only human.

You have probably heard the story about how the USAF came to see him because he got the inside of the B-52 designed so well even though no one working on the film had actually seen it. What is even more interesting is something I learned recently when I read Daniel Ellsberg's fascinating book: The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War planner. It turns out there absolutely WAS a "Plan R" as shown in the movie, where the local commanders assumed that Washington had been wiped out and had autonomy to use nuclear weapons at their own discretion. In fact local commanders could authorize nuclear weapons without orders from their superiors in the early days of the cold war in many more scenarios and far more easily than shown in the movie. I highly recommend Ellsberg's book.
