This is the way you do a DIY repair video. To the point without all the filler BS and waxing poetic about the philosophy of door placement.
you sir....are awesome....thanks for sharing this!
Yes. That sh*t makes me nuts. When did I start putting asterisks in my salty language? I'm getting old.
Thank you, on my way to fix mine, I was just about to buy a new one but luckily I found your video, exactly what I needed, clean and straight to the point. THANK YOU!
thank you benoit! appreciate the comment!
I DID IT!!! 68YO Nannie fixed the dad-gum thang! Kept falling off the bottom hinge. Ripped the 2x4 and have it clamped now waiting for the wood glue to dry. Used finishing nails from the inside to hold in place instead of screws. Thanks so much!! I
You rock KK. Thank you so much for sharing. I appreciate the comment
Hey hey. Just wanted to say thank you for creating this video. Three of my hallway doors had the same problem. I was hoping that I could share a picture of what I bought at home depot. But I took a pic of the item number. ICB458. It's just a piece of baseboard corner trim. It has a little ornate cut at the top but I'll be damned the body of the piece of wood was the exact size you need. Bought some gorilla glue and 1 1/2 inch wood screws. Fit perfectly and an hour later I was drilling the hole for the pivot. Better than when they were new. Thank you!
thank you sean! sounds like you rocked it!
I like your style straight to the point no theatrics so simple thanks exactly what I was looking for!

Great video. Looks like it would work even for my Lowe's doors that look to be particle filler at the bottom.

Just what I've been looking for, thanks!
awesome roberto! thanks so much for commenting!
Good stuff I was about to go to Lowes and buy a new door. I was worried that it might be hard to get old wood out but a flathead and hammer did the trick.

Thank you Jose... So glad it helped you....thanks so much for sharing!
You've provided a very useful and clear set of instructions. One question though. You mention using a 1 3/16 in. rib. I measured the exact distance between the front and back panels of the bifold door that I want to repair, and it's 7/8 in., so I assume you mean that 1 3/16 is the the height of the piece. I've phoned all over my local area, and no one seems to have something that's 7/8 in. thick. Can you suggest a particular type of supplier and the right term to use to try to find these wooden ribs?
hi n west..great question! the 1 and 3/16 that i used here was "ripped" ( cut long ways) to be that size from a regular pine 2x4. my door ( a typical interior hollow core door) is 1 3/8 thick. ive not seen a 7/8 thick door, but you would do it the same way, rip your width from a 2x4 and then use it as filler.. i hope this helps! thanks so much for the comment!
Gotta do this! Thanks!
Thank you!
You saved my life!
what an honor mr theo! thanks so much!
Neat ! Good energy
Thank you Pw! AppreciAte the comment!
thank youuu
thank you nora!
This is exactly what I needed. Thank you!
awesome michelle! thanks!
Good
Thank you
That’s my man. Exactly what I needed. Is it weird to feel stoked on repairing a bifold door?
No way Jon it’s a victory my friend. Thanks for commenting
500th like! Although, volume was really soft.
thank you mach!
Great Video! Question I have is, what size bit should I use for drilling the bottom hole?
hey metal!. you can lay the bit next to your hardware and gauge the size.. i think mine was 3/8..better check yours to be sure. :)
Will do. Just wondering if they were standard size. Thanks!
Is the wood piece you used to replace the broken bottom something you had to cut or is it sold as a stock repair piece?
hi marian! unfortunately it had to be ripped.. this was a 2x4 cut to 1 3/16 inch wide. doors that are 1 3/8 thick ( typical interior hollow core door) require the filler piece to be 1 and 3/16. i hope this helps! and thanks for the comment!
Thanks man!! What is that wood piece called andfrom where can I get it the readymade piece?
hey shayan..these have to be cut friend.....its not quite a 2x2
Cant believe u did that on your beautiful bed, but u are good👍
Hey Claudia. Thank you! I left it hanging off the edge lol thank you so much for commenting
If I’m asking Home Depot to cut the wood for me, what do you recommend to ask for/request? I saw on another comment you mentioned ripping 2x4. The piece that needs to be broken out appears to be about 16 1/16th in. long x 1 1/16th in. width
Hi Chelsea, that is a great question… The thickness of the typical hollow core door is an inch and 3/8 so you would need to rip the board which means you need to cut it long ways… You would need to ask them for a Skil saw as Home Depot will not cut it. 🥴
Good 👍job
thank you Edmonton!
great vid. where do i buy that piece of wood? i searched the big box store and can't find one that size. thanks!
hey ct...the 1 3/8 it has to be cut...a saw blades width less than a 2x2
what size drill bit is used for the bottom knurled pastic bolt holder?
hey warren...can't say man, i just hold it up next to it and choose the one just smaller...3/16 if i had to guess??
Thankyou so much really helpful
thank you DE! appreciate the comment!
@@homemend just wondering where to buy a 1 3/16 rib piece at?
@@homemend I dont have a hand saw to use
hey D! youll have to rip the 1 3/16 yourself, im not sure anyone does sell it...
@@homemend oh ok maybe I'll RIP it at work lol
How would you tackle the problem of not being able to screw the track in due to lack of purchase. In other words, the screws will not tighten the track to the doorway. Usually there is wood, in older construction I have came across plaster or metal. In this case, it is two sheet rock or drywall panels, filled with insulation, then drywall mud over it. bifold door would hangs a 1/4 to 3/4 inch of the ground. I could cut the door a 1/2 inch and hope not to need to repair it or I could cut the sheet rock and add wood. both options are time consuming. Your thoughts?
hey jimmy! pickle man...i think forst i would try to secure the track with toggle bolts...if that didnt work i would probably try to alter the door...toggles sound like a life saver
What size drill bit did you use to drill the hole?
I’m gonna guess Here. I think the 3/8 was too big so it was probably a 5/16
Another question... Now I I found the piece of wood.. Glue a nail it... I need to make the hale for the nail in the piece of wood.... Iwhat is the size of the drill... Thanks in advance
hey amal...you would need a bit slightly smaller than the nail you are using.. it really depends on what you have. i hope this helps!
Hi.. Thank you for you vedio... But the diminsion of the piece not clear... I live in Canada do you know from where I can get it
hi amal..you can cut it out of a 2x4. the rip is 1 3/8" wide so about 3 1/2 centimeters. i hope this helps!
@@homemend thank you
The metal part at the bottom bended do you know how I should bend it back
Hey polo. Those usually get replaced when damaged. About 4 bucks at the hardware store
Where did you get a 1&3/16” piece of wood? Home Depot didn’t have nor would they cut one for me. If you cut yourself how did you do it? I don’t have a tablesaw. Have other saws. Thanks.
hi bonnie..i used a cordless circular saw for mine. I couldn't find anyone to do it for me either :( you got this!
Thanks HM, have you done a video for Closet Doors with not guide on the bottom. The Closet Door we have are two doors with not bottom guide. The doors are not bifolds.
hi screen.. what kind of doors are they? slider? french doors?
Home Mender Inc Sliders
Hi screen! hope this helps!

I am 100% new to doing home repairs (single Mom and ex used to fix everything). Where do I find this “rib”. Do I have to cut the wood to size or will Lowes do something like that for me?
Hey hey, this is a rip and you will need to cut it yourself. Got this.
What size pivot did you use
hey jam...whatever came with it..liks like 3/8 hole?
You just saved me $90 on a new door!!
Awesome Cedric. Enjoy!
You seem to reply to all comments, impressive.
hey cc!...is this a test? lol i try my friend.. thanks for noticing!
@@homemend Haha nope, no test here but you still passed. Good job on your vids man! I'm trying to work on fixing my bifold right now :D. The wood I need to pull out isnt quite as easy as it looks here though haha, I am really having to pry this wood out, kinda like someone already replaced it before because the wood is thick.
I removed my double set of bifold doors to paint and change the hinges. No that I am reinstalling them the holes for the pivots are not matching up. The thing is I have the two center doors with the handle and outer doors without. They came ou now won't go back in. What did. I do wrong?
hey robert! i have no idea friend....??
where do i get 1 and 3/16" rip? wood?
Hey Kathy. You have to cut it that size. I had a 2x4.
How to make the rip? Can I buy it somewhere
Hey Emily, this is one you’re gonna need to cut yourself
Hello
hello jb!!!
Hello, is it possible to get a material list for this project?
hey bananner....you would need the hinge pin for your style door and to rip a 2x4 down to 1 3/16" , a little wood glue, screws and tiny brad nails... i hope this helps!
@@homemend Thank you!
When I go to home depot What exactly am I looking for? 1 3/16 rip or rib? Is that in the molding or trim section?
hey abigail..a "rip" is the term used for cutting a board long ways.. this was cut out of a 2x4...you will not be able to find any trim to create this, it will have to be :"ripped" i hope this helps!
@@homemend thanks! I am a total rookie this helps. Great easy and quick tutorial.
yes mam...so happy it helped!
Thanks, you saved me from buying a new door
Awesome DeAndre thanks for sharing!
I could not find a top bracket to fit an old door so I drilled a hole in the drywall the same distance from the wall and level.
I will add a plastic grommet to the hole.
Awesome, thank you guru
Where do I find a 1 3/16 rip?
Hey Michael. you have to rip it yourself
@@homemend Thank you, for response. I found the rip at Menard.
I will finish up soon.
I got in a fight in my basement with my cousin and I punched the door, i ended up needing stitches but that’s besides the point. I broke the door💀 thank you boss
thank you 62! appreciate the comment!
Your the men
Thank you, Jose
I need you to come to our house and fix ours 😭😭😭😭
awe natalie..i wish i could..you got this!
How to fix a hole in that door
Hey Q!
Join me on the Mighty net work. That’s great content!
My customers would not like it at all if I did a repair on top of there belongings. Other than that ok vid. CA glue instead of nails till the wood glue sets.
hey rovert, great suggestions but this wasnt for a customer but thanks for commenting!
Why didn’t you clamp the new piece of wood?
Hey Paul a clamp would work great if it was in my house and I had plenty of time for it to dry but when doing repairs at others houses we may not have the time. Thanks for commenting
How do we know the size to drill the new hole?
Hey Taylor. Drill at the same size as the old one. Just set your drill bit up to it and match it up
@@homemend Unfortunately the old hole was too big so the original bottom pivot piece fell into the door (the material was sort of like cardboard and may have broken down over time). Would the bottom hole be the same size as the top hole? Thank you for the help!
Quite possibly. You can always hold the bit up to the pivot pin you are putting in. You got this.
With the glue, did you really need the screws?
Hey red. If you have hours for the glue to dry, but if you’re repairing someone else’s and want to go home, I would secure with screws so you can hang it right away.
Wait so you said no one would cut the piece for you.... ?
Hey shes. This door needed an 1 3/16 rip. These need to be cut as there is no store bought piece that is that size.
I hate these doors trash in my opinion
Hey TG yes they definitely are but it helps to know how to add some stability to one that still has some life in it. Thanks so much for commenting
Thank you!
Thank you!
