The Pilatus in inclement weather has an abysmal record…several serious crashing due to icing or extreme turbulence, in all three cases the plane broke apart in mid-air because of the G Forces before hitting the ground. Do not fly in the Pilatus during the winter or if there is any indication of heavy precipitation. Also, no matter what jet please ensure your pilots complete the check list out loud completely, and deactivate the parking brake and gust switch…these have contributed to at least half a dozen crashes over the last several years in charter or private jets. What happens often is that the pilots know each other well, have many hours and confidence in flying the aircraft, and circumvent the check lists because of being overly confident…and as pilots often can be, arrogant. NOT GOOD! And finally, do not encourage your pilot land in a particular airport lists because of your schedule and need to get there to meet a deadline…if the airport is risky because of precipitation, winds, length of runway, or snow/ice, or lack of landing lights at night…go somewhere else…that too has contributed to several fatal crashes in the last several years. Passengers, do you part, don’t always figure the pilots have it all under control. You can save your life and the lives of those traveling with you by asking a couple of questions: a.
