It's not good hamster care though. It's not enough bedding, it's missing a multichamber hideout and the wheel is too small. The hamster is clearly bored and stressed and wants out.
I know from experience when he climbs on the water bottle he wants out. For either two reasons. 1 he wants to roam around and explore (which means close supervision) or 2 he is scared still and wants to escape (which just means more bonding time is needed) anywho he (she) is very adorable! Keep up the good work caring for him!
I've had my hamster for about a month and last night she was very adamant on escaping,, everytime I put my hand in her enclosure she would quickly climb up my arm and try to escape,, she wouldnt take any food from me tho :_
@@purplestars02fan47 its really only seen on syrian hamsters. its harder to see them on dwarf hamsters and she probably doesn't care about the actual gender
is he biting or nibbling? hamster bites are BITES. If he draws blood, he might still be scared. If he's nibbling then maybe he is confusing your hand for food? Try washing your hand with non scented soap. I was soo frustrated I know how it feels. My hamster looks exactly like guppy and it took me 5 months XD
omg yes! You can definitely tell the difference when they're mistaking your for food and actually biting. In my experience if they are biting, it would leave some blood and it'll feel like a paper cut. If they're mistaking you for food it barely hurts.
As an add on: somethings to entertain him are: giving him around 10in of bedding on one side to burrow in, make some “boredom breakers”, give him a water dish, put some tunnels into the bedding and crowding his cage with more toys and scatter feed with foraging stuff too like millet, herbs and flax sprays
@@thecreaturenotebook440 hamsters are horrible climbers, and they do not like to climb. they one try to climb when trying to escape a predator or is bored and wants to do something. also, hamsters are known to stay in one place due to being scared of predators. they stay where their familiar scent is *hun*
@@ariana4144 then your hamster is afraid of it’s surrounding because hamsters can climb very well and I know we’re you got that HaMsTeRs CaNt CliMb well from Victoria Rachel a hamster like to explore their surroundings when they feel comfortable so you must be doing something wrong if your hamster just stays in one place luv
Hey, I’m so glad that you’re upgrading Guppy’s cage and trying to improve his lifestyle, it makes me so happy to see this, mainly because hamsters are often thought of as disposable and such so they receive poor treatment. Sadly, Guppy’s climbing on the water bottle is not a natural behavior, and he is likely doing this because he wants to escape. To solve this, I suggest providing him with a water dish so that he doesn’t get hurt if he falls. Change the water daily and wash well so no bacteria stays there! Secondly, try to make things to stimulate his/her brain. Hamsters like to be challenged and do something to distract them so they don’t get bored. There are tons of awesome ways to do this, there are many videos that show you what you can do. I love that you’re scatter feeding, this is a great way to do this. Provide him with a couple herbs for him to forage, it’ll give him some bonus nutrients to fight off sicknesses and such. Some herbs I use are chamomile and rose petals. You can give him a couple more toys, too! I strongly recommend watching Victoria Reachel, she’s a hamster guru :))
Some tips on taming Guppy is, try putting a treat on your hand and make sure your hand is flat. Try this many time in his cage, then after he gets comfortable with your hand try leading him on your hand with a treat. And hold him for like 3 seconds. Then do that many times. Then once he gets comfortable with you lifting him up, set up a place where he can free roam and do that 2-3 times everyday!
Try wearing gloves when you hand feed Guppy treats, if he does bite at least you will have A cushion. I remember when I had A hamster, he chewed on everything.
2:58 I think he keeps doing that bc he needs to be freeromed every day for like 30 minutes^^ . Just go to a hamster safe place and put him there with maybe some toys or any safe objects just to play around, run a bit, explore. You can also do this in the bathtub if you don’t have a hamster safe place, or if u are scared he runs away ♡´・ᴗ・`♡
Because he loves digging in the sand I recommend doing a section of the cage as just sand (maybe like a fifth of the cage?). You could use childrens play sand to keep the cost down. They also like a semi crowded cage so I'd just try to add more accessories and things to climb on, even if you DIY them yourself 😊 It looks like you are doing a great job though well done! 💛
No matter how large, some ungrateful mammies are not happy without enough stimulation in the enclosure... More bedding helps, the more they burrow the happier they are...
okeeeyy, so first off all I adore how you did your research and stuff, and your hamster seems a bit bored but you did everything you could! I have a cage that is like 900 square inches with a LOT of toys but he still is a bit bored. I think that's normal... I have a really great strategy for taming your hamster!! so you sit in the bathtub with your hamster with a few of his toys, then you just let him come to you. after a few times you will see that he is more comfertable! cuz you don't put your hand for his nose but he can just smell your sent and maybe climb up you. you just need to sit there with him, do nothing and let him come too you. if you don't understand me, search: 'taming your hamster in bathtup'
Hey just a little tip but you don’t need to clear all the bedding when you clean and you don’t need to clean so often. Just clean and replace soiled litter if it’s noticeable :)
Guppy climbing on his water bottle implies that he is trying to escape. There are many ways to prevent this. I would look more into it if guppy continues this behavior. Thank you if you read this and Love you videos ❤️
aww thank you so so much that means more than you know 🥺 and ill definitely do some more research to figure out how to make him more comfortable and happy ❤️
Herbs are amazing when foraging! You can get some of the cardboard that is thick with the holes in it and add herbs in the holes and it’s really good for foraging and Boredom!
Taming: Yeah my ham kept biting me too and it hurt so bad! Like there’d be two tiny tooth marks for a couple of days! She showed no signs of stress at all. But now she doesn’t bite and will climb on my hands (for 3 secs until she realises there’s no food) How I did it? I just left her alone until she was 6 months old.All I did is hand her treats but I didn’t spend time with her. She’s not super tame but she won’t bite now.
yea that wheel is definitely a good size i don't know what people are talking about. especially how small he is that's the perfect size! :) I'm so glad to see more people with good hamster care.
Guppy is so cute and you are providing him with such a great life! My hamster does the same with his water bottle even though he’s in a 1000 sq cage, so I think it may be exploring rather than boredom but I’m not 100% sure. Anyways you are doing such a great gob with hamster care, I’m so glad you did research and it clearly paid off looking at that cage! 🥰🥰
@@ryliegrace9040 it could be something that makes your hamster work for a treat, Like say the treat is stuck in a cage and the hamster has to bat it around for a bit in order for the treat to get out
Between water bottles and water bowls I think bowls are better because if someone puts the water bottle too low then the hamster may have back problems. Also more germs go on water bottles than bowls. And if the little bead in the water bottle get stuck you may not know and someone’s hamster can drink water.
1:00 Bedding is soooo expensive! I do the same thing to save bedding 🙋🏻♀️ Kaytee Clean & Cozy is probably the cheapest paper based bedding, but I would also recommend putting paper towels in a paper shredder to make your own! Erins Animals has a vid on that, I’d do it but I don’t have a paper shredder.
You can get like wood pieces and cork logs from reptile sections for decor. You can put hay, sprays (oat, wheat, millet, and flax), herbs (basically dried flowers), for foraging which entertains them. Victoria Raechel has really good examples of the most beneficial types of cage setups.
for taming you can try rubbing your hands in the bedding, getting his scent on you, and hold the treats, then when he’s comfty with that you can put them on your palm, then when he sits on your palm you can slowly start trying to pick him up.
You are doing great! I love seeing a 'non-hamster' account with good care. My only question is what kind of sand do you use? Some types of sand are dusty and can lead to respiratory diseases.
One thing I would recommend is getting a different type of sand, children’s Place sand is perfect all you have to do is bake it for five minutes to get rid of all of the extra bacteria
So taming him will be a little more difficult and I suggest watching a Victoria Raechel video on Taming My Robo Dwarf Hamster and she explains what to do. I also suggest scatter feeding his food and adding bits of hay in random places like his tube or his hide or even one of his self made burrows
try watching victoria racheals taming video were she tames her hamster different ways and she also says make it a routine so maybe watch her taming video for some more help trying to tame guppy because if you don't tame him sticking your hand in his cage could scare him so yea i recommend watching the taming video and btw your hamster is so cute
Idk if u already do this but to save bedding, and make it less stressful for guppy you should put some of his old bedding into the clean cage just so it’s not all new scent
hey, just wanted to tell you that you are doing really good at his cage its big, it has a good amount of toys and bedding and wanted to tell you if u want any information of hamsters and how much food to put them I would really recommend 1-2 tea spoons and u can change it when all of its food has been eaten. also wanted to say keep up the good work. dont forget that you are amazing!! :D
His wheel looks fine to me ! My dwarf has a similar sized one. Also do you have a sand bath ? They love them, also he may need more toys for increased stimulation as the fact he is climbing on his water bottle may mean he is bored. A great way to combat this is to either A incorporate more toys and alternate them between days, another is to stuff treats such as peanuts or mealworms into that ball you have that’s made on string like material, to buy some shelled walnuts or to coat a toilet paper roll in a flour/water glue solution with treats ☺️ Victoria Racheal is amazing too and has lots of useful hamster tips and tricks
I just noticed you have a sand bath, i didn’t see it as the sand is white 😅 so apologies ! Also adding whimzees to the cage is amazing to help keep their teeth down
Omg Guppy is so cute!🥰 I love this so much, i love to see how u got the perfect hamster care right away, how u do research so well and how u are trying everything to give him his best life! This makes me so happy haha! Also he problably bites u cause he thinks ur had is a treat and smells like food! I suggest washing ur hands before and then try to pet him carefully so that he doesn't associate u with food all the time!❤️
For the sand bath i suggest you avoid any dust as it can cause upper respiratory infection, but you can use children's play sand as long as you sift it.
hey there! i agree with your wheel opinion, as long as his back looks straight the size you have should be totally fine. as for the climbing, it’s not necessarily a bad thing as long as he has plenty to do- he could just be a super energetic guy. you could make a second level or shelf inside the cage if you want, my hamster loves this and she also used to try to climb upwards. crowding the cage with bigger toys/places to hide might make him feel more comfortable too. hope this helps, you’re doing an awesome job!!
My dwarf always bites me everytime I put my hand or finger in the cage, nothing i can really do about it ive tried everything but... I just put my knuckle in first or put my hand in first and right before she bites me i raise my hand up so she doesnt bite me and put my hand back down and she recognizes it. or i put a treat first before my fingers so she bites the treat first instead of my fingers or hand.
Guppy is such a precious being. Love your vids and you so much Kayla, hope one day we're able to meet in person. You know, once America can be a good country and help stop this pandemic. Just a few questions 1. Are you thinking about doing a try on haul in the near future? 2. Do you have any tips on taking care of hamsters? Cause I feel like getting one in the future when I'm an adult along with a cat, two fish, and a bird. 3. Do you play any video games, if so what are the ones you play the most? 4. Do you have any tips on becoming more positive? Cause I'm trying to stay more positive nowadays and I just needed some advice. Sorry if this comment becomes too long, I hope we could be friends even if we have an age gap. I also turned 14 on the 12th so that's a thing. Love you Kayla, stay beautiful as you always do and never forget me when you become famous. Much love!!!
1. I have 2 try in hauls coming up very soon :) 2. just be patient and do a ton of research cause there’s always room for improvement!! 3. I do nottt i used to play call of duty but i kinda stopped 4. i just try to always think of how fortunate i am for the support i get from my friends, family, and subs hehe and also just my lifetstyle in general :) tahnk you so so much for all your kind words and support ❤️❤️
Hey! Just watching your cute little dwarf hamster (we have a little male dwarf, I forget how tiny he's been, he's 7-8 months old now). I recommend putting a "roof" on the sand bath. We just put a bendy bridge over it, so he feels a bit safer when bathing. Also I recommend a water dish rather than a bottle. Just put it on a platform or something, so you don't get too much bedding in it and clean it daily. Good luck with your baby hamster :D
Hi there! If your hamster bites try not to put food in the middle of your hand just yet. Hand feed but give it time. It may not be posible to tame a robo hamsters, do to the lack of domestication. Keep trying but don’t get frustrated if he doesn’t become 100% tame! As well try to find a way to get him to stop going on top of the water bottle. Hamsters can jump but it’s best them not because it’s easy for them to brake a leg or back! And make sure you have sand and not dust for the sand bath! Love the set up✨
@Belle Noach My bad, I just mean it’s harder to tame robos. I’m just saying this because of my experience and others but it’s different with each animal. And my bad if I miss took him for a robo.
make sure your sand is natrual sand, I recommend all natural reptile sand. I made the mistake of getting calcium sand for my hamster when I first got him. Your cage looks great, def make him some toys with treats/food hidden inside. itll keep him busy and more mental exercise
I actuallly reacted in the last video. So again i dont know if you already do this. But i would recoment when you cleam your cage to save a lot of the old bedding so he recognises his sent and feels a little calmer about the cleaning process. And that way you save money too. I would like save 1/3 of the bedding. Oh and do you wash your hands before tamming? Because my hamster also bit me a few times but it was more of like to test out if i was edible. You can maybe start with just giving a treat out of your fingers and ones he is comfortable with that you can put your hand in the cage flat. And put a treat on the tips of your fingers. Ones he is comfortable with that move it back little by little. And when he sits on your hand you can lift him up a little so he gets used to the feeling. Just keep in mind taming can take up to a year. My hamster was also very scared at first but it just takes a long time. I hope its understandable because in actually dutch. Your hammie is super cute! Just have patients and keep going you can do it! Oh one more thing you can actually give him a treat with your fingers and gently trying to pet his back so he associates it with something good. Because hamsters often get scared of that because preditors usually sneak up on them from the back.
Hey! I just wanted to say that the reason he is climbing on his water bottle is because he is stressed/bored and is trying to escape :C i would recommend adding more toys and hides for him so he wont be bored
hey Kayla! I just want to point for the white sand bath is for chinchillas, and the best sand bath is regular sand, that way the powder wont get stuck.
Hey, a tip for a hamster that likes to burrow is you can put a square box or a big round tunnel under 3-4 inches of bedding, then they can store food in places without the food falling all the way to the bottom of the cage. You can also make stilts using cardboard or wood for certain items like the wheel so it stays in the higher bedding
With my hamster I adopted him with the reason for surrender being “aggressive” but honestly he’s bitten me twice in two years. I used to sit in the empty bathtub, put him some toys, his bedding, water bottle, food, wheel, and then just sit on my phone until he decided he wanted to climb me, I wear big hoodies and after about a year he decided he loved finding folds in the fabric and burring himself in there and going to sleep 💕 I only touch him if he’s actively trying to climb me and he asks for pets now, sometimes he’ll gently nibble my finger without putting pressure to tell me hey I’m done with cuddles. Luckily my housemate moved out recently and the room is still spare so he gets to free roam (absolutely mad my hamster has his own room) so I’ll sit in there with him. I hope you have success with a bit of taming, he seems so young! I’m sure he’ll come around, also, if you put some toilet roll tubes sticking out the deeper parts of the bedding they usually love that xx you’re doing great
hi! i hope this doesn’t come off as rude but i cant tell if your sand is hamster bathing sand/chinchilla bathing sand, but it is actually bad for them! it can be dusty & can cause respiratory problems. idk recommend play sand at home depot for $5. bake it in the oven & sift to get big rock chunks out! & it’s way cheaper.
Hamsters need very large wheels. Their backs shouldn't bend or curve AT ALL which causes pain and problems. Wheels are really important for hamsters so one should make sure they are comfortable
hi ! I have a different dwarf hamster then you witch is even harder to tame. [ roborovski dwarf hamster ] . Here are some tips. dwarf hamsters cant see that well so yea that might explain some of their behaviours. i reccomd a box or a play pen to put your hamster in , its kind of like a fun little break for them , you can put toys and stuff like that in there and its good to tame them in a different habitat other then there cage. some dwarf hamsters dont like to be held and its not for any special reason. here are some taming tips- 1 - start by sitting by ur hamsters cage . dont put your hands in and dont speak or make alot of noise. this gets ur hamster used to your presence and you being around. 2- talk to your hamster in a gentle voice , this will help it get used to the sound of your voice . 3- anytime you do something involving with putting your hands in your dwarf hamsters cage talk to them unless there sleeping. since they are a little blind they can know its ok because they hear the sound of a voice that there used to. 4- start by giving your dwarf hamster treats with your hand . 5- try not to ever wake your hamster up or scare it . let it know that your not a threat by being gentle and carefull. 6- get your dwarf hamster used to your hands being in the cage . 7- always wash your hands before and after putting your hands in your hamsters cage. 8- you can try seeing where your hamster likes to be pet and attempt petting it. mine likes its back to be pet gently with my index finger. 9- after a while try putting healthy treats on your hand and seeing if your hamster will crawl on your hand so it can eat the treat. \ 10- after your hamster is used to your hands try picking it up gently. i also reccomd doing more internet reaserch . also if a hamster bites you they might think your food so thats why you wash your hands, or they might just be curious and nibble at you . If you scare your hamster then they will bight to defend themselves. Hope this helped.
I got a hamster around two months ago but two weeks ago it just died😓also thank you for actually studying hamsters before you get one unlike some people who just go to the pet store and grab a hamster and a very small cage. thank you!!!!!
You refill their food bowl after about 2-3 days, dont worry that dosent mean theyre not eating for thst long its because they have little cheek pouches where they store tons of food!
Victoria Rachel just did an updated stress behaviors video, I think it might be helpful to watch it. If he's trying to climb the walls a lot and climbing up that usually means the cage is too small or not enough enrichment. You have a lot of things in there so maybe changing it up and/or adding foraging or sprays into the bedding? They can get bored of stuff just like humans do. :)
Definitely recommend putting a lot of bedding, hamsters are nocturnal and burrowing animals. Bedding is really important, I provide mine 11 inches and he is a really happy hamster now. I would also make it really crowded like a lot of hides bendy bridges and toilet paper rolls everywhere. He honestly does not look like he is bored he looks very timid honestly not like he’s trying to escape, more like telling you to back off. He probably is very territorial and was picked on by other hamsters. Open space is pretty stressful since they are used to hiding and protecting themselves. Hope this helps:))
I'd recommend adding in a platform, so you have a flat place to put food and water. I've seen people use those magazine filers from IKEA and put them on the side and use a bridge to get up top, then the hamster can go underneath as well. I'd also recommend trying out a water dish instead/as well as a bottle, i use a small jar lid which is very shallow so my hamster can drink from it :D guppy is very cute tho!
Guppy is climbing a lot because he seams to be bored. I would recommend getting him more hides. He has a lot of chew toys but those do not entertain him for very long. You can also scatter feed him which will help too. For that you can just scatter all of the food around his cage.
also everyone saying he’s trying to climb out bc he’s bored there’s plenty for him to do! he’s still new he’s always gonna try to get out bc he’s still a new hamsters and still isn’t 100% where e is
I think your cage is amazing, if he does keep climbing up the water bottle when your near it’s maybe because he wants to get out and wants to be handled, guppy looks so cute though and looks like he has a lot of energy. My hamster does that as well most of the time he just chills in his wheel but when I go near the cage he jumps up the side and then he just climbs up, also if your hamster is biting you when your trying to taim him it’s because your hands now have the treat smell on them so guppy is thinking that’s there’s still a treat there, I know that’s what you meant to do to get them used to up you but I think that’s why he is biting you, I’m glad you take others advice and I think your cage is amazing, he/she will have a great life with you❤️❤️
Im glad that her back doesnt curve so thats okay but as Guppy may be getting bigger i think you would have to upgrade the wheel in the future but maybe lift the water bottle a little higher so Guppy can't climb on it. And a little reminder, im your new subscriber :> (Well that rhymed) and if you are going to get another hamster i don't recommend buying them from a pet store. Im not trying to be rude sorry if i sound a bit rude :
omg no you don’t at all!! I will upgrade his wheel in the future, but as of now I’m keeping it the same just because it isn’t necessary :) and the water bottle suggestion is a great idea so thank you for that!! if I do end up getting a new hamster sometime I will definitely look into adoption instead of buying one :)
I’m pretty sure that your hamster is a girl because you couldn’t see any “balls”. I have a female dwarf hamster and in the slow mo clip I could see that their bellies looked the same.
@@marell9106 hi! i’m just now seeing your comment, but from the way i view it, recognizing it’s gender or not it doesn’t really harm guppy in any way so that is why i don’t mind not knowing.
A good tip I learned is of you have a paper shredder you can get a few rolls of tissue ,paper towels or dinner napkins and shred them up for a cheap bedding! Erinsanimals makes really cool videos with diy toys ,bedding and enclosures! PS: You don't know how happy I am that you did your research, but he's bored in his enclosure or hes too scared/doesn't feel safe. He's scraping at the walls and trying to escape or he's just too scared. Try putting something that smells like you in there that you don't care gets chewed on. P.p.s: it might be because hes young also ,might have too much energy
Try the cupping method (look it up) my hamster is soo good with that method. Mine also bites me if I put a treat in my hand. It could be because they don’t have good eyesight. But highly recommended the cupping method
i got my hamster just over a month ago, sadly she passed recently (im not sure why) but anyways, she would bite me too, i never got to hold her and rarely pet her, but she had a good life. she didnt seem afraid , more curious. guppy is so cute!
heyy, do u think he nibbled or bit? if he nibbled, he wouldnt draw blood and its normal! this is how hamsters 'see' the world as their eyesight is so bad theyre basically blind haha so they depend on their nose, ears and mouth. however, if he bites to draw blood, then this might either be cage aggression (does he chase ur hand around the cage frantically and lunge?), personality (some hamsters are just naturally aggressive but it doesnt look like Guppy is), or he thinks ur hand is food (unscented soap would help a lot! also try staying very still and talking softly BEFORE you put ur hand in to 'announce' ur presence). hope this helps. i love ur channel!!
@@kaylaepark yay! im so glad! he looks very skittish but not aggressive at all so i thought i should tell u haha, i was a bit confused when my hamster started nibbling too but now i think of it as a form of affection haha
my hamster is a syrian her name is svetka she came from a good breeder instead of petsmart all the hamsters i have got from petsmart were very mean but the hammy i got from the breeder has never bit me shes cool she reminds me of a iced coffee she dosent bite her toys either shes in a bin cage until i get my christmas money and make a cage or get a big aquarium because theres no ikea in oklahoma for the detolf thing which sucks shes not fully tame but sometimes she will let me touch her and if i have a baby puff thing she will take it from me shes cute we have a 10 or 11 inch wheel that was 10 dollars thats very loud when you are trying to sleep at night but thats ok after i fall asleep i tune everything out having to do with my hearing once the smoke alarm went off and i was asleep and never heard anything thankfully it was just my grandpa putting wet potatoes in hot grease i love my family haha... but the slightest touch will wake me up i can sleep through everything but if someone touches me i wake up and im very mad because i like sleep but hammies are COOL
With the sand bath I would add a cover or get one with a half cover because he wants to feel protected when taking a bath and also make sure that the sand is not chinchilla dust because that is not good but other then that great cage.
I would recommend children's playsand because that sand does seem a little fine for a hamster and maybe a bigger sandbath with a hideout and I think it would be pretty good.
Hi! Your enclosure is great, but I would recommend having a hide in the sand bath so that he will use it more and feel more comfortable safe when using it!
#1 when you are taming rub your hands in the bedding so that he doesn't get as scared #2 put the treat at the edge of your hand and every couple days move it more toward the middle of your hand #3 if he bites try not to hesitate so he doesn't get scared. #4 if he stands on your hand stay still and let him explore #5 if he starts cleaning himself on your hand he is comfortable and you could possibly lift your hand but slowly #6 keep your hand as flat as possible hope this helps my hamster was super skittish and it took 3 months to tame him but hes super cuddly now :)
Gubby is a "Siberian dwarf hamster" and no "Syrian Goldhamster". The gender of Siberian dwarf hamsters is harder to tell than of goldhamsters. As far as I could see, it's "Dame Guppy". The "back part" of a female has a "V-form" (watched from above) while males have more like a "U-form". The faces of female hamsters are also more pointed that male faces. As Guppy is already about 2 month old you should also see his "big balls" About 40 years ago I bought a goldhamster and named him "General von Hindenburg". Then I noticed that it was female and renamed her to "Fräulein von Hindenburg".
hello, i don't have hamsters, (i have rats :D) but a good idea is to take a cardboard box, cut a hole into the side to make it a hide, put it in the shallow area and put the wheel on top. voila! super study plus a hide! good luck! btw guppy is just adorable! :)
I was nervous mine was going to be a biter but, I had him for a couple of months and I only got a nibble (mistaken my finger for food). If mine actually bit me id be scared to take him out.
For taking you could watch Victoria Rachel's taming video. You could also when he's ready to do the bathtub method she explains in her video so check it out!
Maybe he’s climbing his water because he is trying to find a way out. You can prevent that by spending more time with him out of the tank so he gets used to being with you and maybe he’ll learn to enjoy your company 😁
hey girl, i noticed guppy looked a little stressed and bored. when you clean guppy’s cage do you get rid of all the bedding? if so try to just do spot cleaning especially with that size of tank you don’t necessarily have to clean it out fully as often as you would a smaller size tank. also if you haven’t already try adding some fruits and protein like eggs or chicken into guppy’s meals sometimes to give him better nutrition!! let me know if this helps
Yesss 💯 Although you should do a deep cleanse at least once every 2 months so the poop and pee in their bedding doesn’t give them a respiratory infection. Although when cleaning you want to do a max 75 clean / 30 old bedding (depending on how dirty your hamster is. Me personally I usually do 50/50)
I've read that at some point your hamster will eventually bite you to know if you're food or not.. I've been bitten like 6 times on the first day i adopted him but now he can crawl on my entire body without bitting me

It's not good hamster care though. It's not enough bedding, it's missing a multichamber hideout and the wheel is too small. The hamster is clearly bored and stressed and wants out.
yes it would be ideal if she could provide more enrichment but we have to remember that not everyone can afford that or prehaps doesnt know. 😄
I know from experience when he climbs on the water bottle he wants out. For either two reasons. 1 he wants to roam around and explore (which means close supervision) or 2 he is scared still and wants to escape (which just means more bonding time is needed) anywho he (she) is very adorable! when he climbs on his water bottle that means he’s trying to escape probably cause of boredom ):
As an add on: somethings to entertain him are: giving him around 10in of bedding on one side to burrow in, make some “boredom breakers”, give him a water dish, put some tunnels into the bedding and crowding his cage with more toys and scatter feed with foraging stuff too like millet, herbs and flax sprays

I remember when I had A hamster, he chewed on everything.
yeah i started with gloves and he would bite them a lot so i tried using just my hands and it hasnt been working out the best 😅
They also like a semi crowded cage so I'd just try to add more accessories and things to climb on, even if you DIY them yourself 😊
It looks like you are doing a great job though well done! 💛
childrens sand always has to be sanitized and baked!
@@taiyakibun7726 yes you can do it at 350 for 20-25 minutes on bake 😊
Guppy is awesome and he's got a great setup. A dwarf hamster in a 55 gallon, that's how you do it right.👍👍👍
No matter how large, some ungrateful mammies are not happy without enough stimulation in the enclosure...
I agree but also eventually you are going to have to so you can wipe down the cage so it doesn’t get nasty in the inside but I do agree with you
Guppy climbing on his water bottle implies that he is trying to escape.

Yeah my ham kept biting me too and it hurt so bad! Like there’d be two tiny tooth marks for a couple of days! She showed no signs of stress at all. But now she doesn’t bite and will climb on my hands (for 3 secs until she realises there’s no food)

What is a boredom breaker??
Some types of sand are dusty and can lead to respiratory diseases.
yeah i got a dust free one but i may change it up :)
Hi! The sand bath should be normal play sand. The dust bath isn’t good for their respiratory system. Just by looking at it, it looks like dust?
dw it’s not but thank you for the concern :)
Hi I’m wondering what sand do u use I recommend non calcium reptiles sand just so u know☺️💕👍
Okay thank you so much! i got mine off of amazon but i was wondering if i should change it so i really appreciate the comment :)
One thing I would recommend is getting a different type of sand, children’s Place sand is perfect all you have to do is bake it for five minutes to get rid of all of the extra bacteria
i recomend researching on what is a good type of hay for hamsters and sprinkleing it arou his cage mixing it up it supports the burrow!
How did you stick the bottle on the glass bc I need one
i used velcro :))
He’s so cute 🥰 I love the natural vibes of his cage
Btw if he starts biting you, that means you smell like food or he is stressed and feels like your a predator
So taming him will be a little more difficult and I suggest watching a Victoria Raechel video on Taming My Robo Dwarf Hamster and she explains what to do. I also suggest scatter feeding his food and adding bits of hay in random places like his tube or his hide or even one of his self made burrows

Also adding whimzees to the cage is amazing to help keep their teeth down
hahah youre good :) thank you for the advice hehe ❤️

I just put my knuckle in first or put my hand in first and right before she bites me i raise my hand up so she doesnt bite me and put my hand back down and she recognizes it. or i put a treat first before my fingers so she bites the treat first instead of my fingers or hand.
i feel 😅 just be patient and try to wash your hands w unscented soap! maybe that’ll help :))

Good luck with your baby hamster :D
i absolutely love that idea thank you so much!!
@@kaylaepark I'm glad you find it useful - I hope your hamster is doing well and has settled down some more :) Dwarf hamster are just the cutest
And my bad if I miss took him for a robo.
thank you so much for your kind words and suggestions :))
make sure your sand is natrual sand, I recommend all natural reptile sand. I made the mistake of getting calcium sand for my hamster when I first got him. Your cage looks great, def make him some toys with treats/food hidden inside. itll keep him busy and more mental exercise
I'm glad you added a sand bath, and that you actually care about Guppy!
guppy is the clumsiest hamster he made me crack up w all his tumbles loll
If you ever don't have enough money for bedding you could always use shredded paper!
You can also make stilts using cardboard or wood for certain items like the wheel so it stays in the higher bedding
thank you so much for the suggestions!! i really appreciate it :) i’ll look into it ❤️
With my hamster I adopted him with the reason for surrender being “aggressive” but honestly he’s bitten me twice in two years.
& it’s way cheaper.
okay! thank you so much for the advice :))
how did u get the water bottle to stick to the glass
velcro!!
I don’t understand how the wheel is to small. And plus the wheel is soooo big for the hamster! Which is good!
Hamsters need very large wheels. Their backs shouldn't bend or curve AT ALL which causes pain and problems. Wheels are really important for hamsters so one should make sure they are comfortable
When he stands up, it means he wants to explore or have u hold him!
okay got it! thanks :)
hi ! I have a different dwarf hamster then you witch is even harder to tame. [ roborovski dwarf hamster ] .
Here are some tips.
dwarf hamsters cant see that well so yea that might explain some of their behaviours.
i reccomd a box or a play pen to put your hamster in , its kind of like a fun little break for them , you can put toys and stuff like that in there and its good to tame them in a different habitat other then there cage.
some dwarf hamsters dont like to be held and its not for any special reason.
here are some taming tips-
1 - start by sitting by ur hamsters cage . dont put your hands in and dont speak or make alot of noise. this gets ur hamster used to your presence and you being around.
10- after your hamster is used to your hands try picking it up gently.
i also reccomd doing more internet reaserch .
also if a hamster bites you they might think your food so thats why you wash your hands, or they might just be curious and nibble at you .

How much do you feed him and how often? I’m thinking about getting one
Hope this helps:))
thank you so much for the advice that was so kind :))
For that you can just scatter all of the food around his cage.
also everyone saying he’s trying to climb out bc he’s bored there’s plenty for him to do! he’s still new he’s always gonna try to get out bc he’s still a new hamsters and still isn’t 100% where e is
Can u hold him cause I wanna know if he got used to use
I will upgrade his wheel in the future, but as of now I’m keeping it the same just because it isn’t necessary :) and the water bottle suggestion is a great idea so thank you for that!! if I do end up getting a new hamster sometime I will definitely look into adoption instead of buying one :)

heyy, do u think he nibbled or bit? if he nibbled, he wouldnt draw blood and its normal! this is how hamsters 'see' the world as their eyesight is so bad theyre basically blind haha so they depend on their nose, ears and mouth. however, if he bites to draw blood, then this might either be cage aggression (does he chase ur hand around the cage frantically and lunge?), personality (some hamsters are just naturally aggressive but it doesnt look like Guppy is), or he thinks ur hand is food (unscented soap would help a lot! also try staying very still and talking softly BEFORE you put ur hand in to 'announce' ur presence). hope this helps. i love ur channel!!

This I great improvement! im so happy you added a sand bath because camel drarfs live I n the dessert so they kind live on the sad.
#1 when you are taming rub your hands in the bedding so that he doesn't get as scared
#2 put the treat at the edge of your hand and every couple days move it more toward the middle of your hand
#3 if he bites try not to hesitate so he doesn't get scared.
#4 if he stands on your hand stay still and let him explore
#5 if he starts cleaning himself on your hand he is comfortable and you could possibly lift your hand but slowly
#6 keep your hand as flat as possible
hope this helps my hamster was super skittish and it took 3 months to tame him but hes super cuddly now :)
As Guppy is already about 2 month old you should also see his "big balls"
About 40 years ago I bought a goldhamster and named him "General von Hindenburg".
I would put something like a tall toy or stand under the water bottle to "cushion" the fall.
You should also look into wearing gloves when taming.
I was nervous mine was going to be a biter but, I had him for a couple of months and I only got a nibble (mistaken my finger for food). If mine actually bit me id be scared to take him out.
My hamster wheel is a 4-5 inch wheel and my dwarf is SUPER small and his back doesn’t curve at all so I’m just keeping it right now!
I’m so glad you improved your hamster care it’s amazing now!!!
Yea I just got a Syrian hamster. And I have had her a week. And she bites me to and very shy and scared. It’s a real process with her.
For taking you could watch Victoria Rachel's taming video. You could also when he's ready to do the bathtub method she explains in her video so check it out!
I meant taming
Maybe he’s climbing his water because he is trying to find a way out. You can prevent that by spending more time with him out of the tank so he gets used to being with you and maybe he’ll learn to enjoy your company 😁
hey girl, i noticed guppy looked a little stressed and bored. when you clean guppy’s cage do you get rid of all the bedding? if so try to just do spot cleaning especially with that size of tank you don’t necessarily have to clean it out fully as often as you would a smaller size tank. also if you haven’t already try adding some fruits and protein like eggs or chicken into guppy’s meals sometimes to give him better nutrition!! let me know if this helps
getting rid of all the bedding while cleaning the tank causes some stress on the hamster so that could be why he’s actually a little funny
Yesss 💯
Although you should do a deep cleanse at least once every 2 months so the poop and pee in their bedding doesn’t give them a respiratory infection. Although when cleaning you want to do a max 75 clean / 30 old bedding (depending on how dirty your hamster is. Me personally I usually do 50/50)
but your cage setup looks really good
I've read that at some point your hamster will eventually bite you to know if you're food or not.. I've been bitten like 6 times on the first day i adopted him but now he can crawl on my entire body without bitting me
