    My brother & I have an aggressive form of arthritis that includes Osteo. He noticed many years ago after he ride his motorcycle he got some pain relief and just sort of felt better. Shortly after.he told me I found a notice about independent trials being run with a vibration macine improving people with arthritis. At that time about 25 yrs ago the machine used was nearly $4,000. - way out of our reach. I had always noticed that after I rode on the back with my dad or brother I felt better but thought I was imagining it maybe. Same result riding our large scooter. A reg sized larger type motorcycle is one huge vibration platform. The more we rode the better we felt. This is the first I’ve heard about this in 25 yrs. Thank you.

    Also interesting that vibration is good for muscles and bone, humming is good for the vagus nerve, and rebounding is good for the lymphatic system. Our bodies NEED this kind of movement!

    This is interesting. I hope I can get a response. I work in the ICU as a nurse… we have a lot of patients who are bed bound. Either they have been for a long time and most likely will never walk again or they are recovering from an illness or procedure and can’t walk for a while. I’m aware the longer they are bed bound, for whatever reason, the quicker there is muscle and bone atrophy. After listening to this interview regarding vibration therapy for osteoporosis, I’m curious about something the respiratory therapists do called CPT. This setting on our ICU beds allows the bed to vibrate for 5 - 10 minutes to help with secretion/mucous mobilization. Is it possible this vibration of the bed could help repair bone density? If so, this is something very easy we could do for all of our patients.

    I went from walking at my jobs to sitting on my butt driving job. Then started falling apart - TO MUCH SITTING! I knew I was right in buying a Home Vibration Plate. This confirms I am doing the right thing. Had a Dr. tell me I shouldn't use it, so I put it away. Now that my back/hip/leg pain is better I am back on the VP plate - 5 minutes at a time 3 or 4 times throughout the day. (Dexa Scan/Severe Osteoporosis. Sure compared to 35 yr. old body) Using my VP is the fasted easy way to a quick exercise, that is really helping. I also found a fast exercise Gym called the Exercise Coach with great machines - 20 min. workout. Here's to everyone's health. May we all be as healthy as we can be for as long as we can be without letting Western Dr.s slowly dissolving us with big Farma Meds. Who in the world wants to be sick and unhealthy as we age out? NOT ME! Keeping myself Healthy & Happy.

I am concerned that when i take this to my group (we already have the video) many people will respond by saying they won't need to exercise because all they have to do is stand on the plate. This SUPPLEMENTS exercise, correct? It does not REPLACE it. Correct? I spend a LOT of time convincing the members of my group to exercise daily "in a serious way" for reasons beyond the bone health issue. I want them to reduce fracture risk by increasing body strength (muscle) and balance - reduce falls etc., have better recovery. Also - very important! - most of the members are gravely depressed and frightened by their medical practitioners who tell them that they are "going to break a hip and die" and tell them that "exercise won't help" and insist only pharmaceutical intervention (which is problematic for many). From my experience, going from a sedentary lifestyle to an active one involving multiple workouts every day (yoga, then a walk, then later online dance, etc. etc.) takes one from feeling like a weak and damaged creature that is so frail that they could "break your leg just walking around" (as an ill-informed doctor once told me) to someone who feels strong, capable, and sturdy on one's feet. SO. The last thing I want to do is encourage people to "just stand on this thing and you don't have to exercise." Our members are generally older post-menopausal women with a multiplicity of medical factors affecting their bone health and a panoply of fracture histories. How can I give them this encouraging and extremely helpful information without having them think that they don't have to exercise after all? How can I make it clear that - if this is in fact the case - that low-intensity vibration therapy does NOT supplant daily exercise? By the way if you are curious, and want to "lurk" on the group (you are welcome to contribute as long as there's no promotion or advice-giving - we have other PTs as members, as well as other professionals) and it's an endless source of information, case histories, support, etc. here is the address. It's called Prolia Side Effects and Complaints and is an international discussion group that discusses FAR more than just issues with denosumab. Vibration therapy is one of them! facebook.com/groups/988541067970186.

      Hi Diane. Thanks for your detailed comments. LiV does not (and cannot) replace exercise. It is a supplement to a well designed program, for those that are best suited to vibration therapy.
      For example, it has some effect on improving your balance but it cannot compete with balance exercises. It does not make you stronger and thereby give you the strength to catch yourself in case of a fall. It does not improve your posture.
      It does boost your cell activity (especially older folks) for building of bone. Next week's video (yes, there is one more) gets into this in more detail.

    Very interesting video, thank you both. I attend a 2 x weekly gym for people with osteoporosis and we stand on a vibration plate for 1 minute each session. From the video, this isn't long enough to be effective?? Like 5 minutes would be better. I can certainly feel the vibration in my teeth that Dr Rubin described when I'm on the vibration plate at gym.
    Is there a way to simulate the effect, perhaps foot drops or bouncing in my swimming pool? Between my gym sessions. These both give a similar vibration feeling. I've been on a few buses that have plenty of vibration LOL.

    • @margaretmartinpt
      @margaretmartinpt  3 роки тому +15

      I cannot comment on the vibration platform you use in your gym, but not all vibration platforms are equal; in fact many are harmful because of excess g-forces. See here: ua-cam.com/video/gvtHKCdqdKM/v-deo.html
      Low intensity vibration is more appropriate. You likely need more than one minute a session but you should consider multiple short sessions during the span of a day. We are releasing a third more detailed video next week on this topic.
      Good luck and thanks for your question.
