Please...bring Sara back...bring Sara back...bring Sara back for another podcast. I need the knowledge of how to treat myself. Thank you Bob for all you and Brad do. It is so much appreciated.
For years I've had doctors wanting me to get bone scans, with the hope of getting me to take meds. I'm a small woman, so that automatically makes me susceptible, apparently. I'll be 70 this year, and last November I had a bad fall as I was attempting to get on my horse. I landed on hard, compacted dirt, and it caused a lateral plateau fracture of the tibia. Of course, my doctor (actually a PA I like very much) now wants me to get a bone scan, and is already recommending Fosamax. But, I do not want to take drugs, especially after reading about the possible side effects. I talked to my surgeon about this, and he actually felt comfortable with my decision, especially since I said I was more than willing to exercise and do whatever possible to naturally work to strengthen my bones. One thing I have noticed is that while I've loved doing Pilates (for instance), so many exercises are dangerous for backs (lots of twists and rolling hips off the ground to extend legs overhead), in particular, and now I'm seeing what Sara had to say about tucking the pelvis! I have a good diet, and what I need to do now is modify my exercise. I also wanted to add that when I recently saw my PA my height has not changed. Thank you so much for these podcasts/videos, and I also see that Bob and Brad have several videos on exercise for osteoporosis. As we grow older, one of the things that is especially important is being able to maintain our mobility. I have things I enjoy doing, and lots of interests; I do not intend to stop.
Thank you for doing these videos with Sara. I have been so depressed with my condition and my prognosis but these videos have changed everything for me. She gives so many examples of immediate things we can do so we don’t feel so helpless. Please have her on again. She is amazing and so positive. 😇
That hummingbird breath is awesome and does help! You can also advance it further by gently closing one of side of your nose and breathing in through the open nostril and then hum that breath outward (just like the hummingbird breath here, just with one nostril at a time). Repeat a couple times and then switch sides. No need to overdo it. You’ll notice needing to blow your nose more and more as you continue to notice your nasal/sinus passageways opening and becoming clearer. Thank you Sara! And thanks Bob and Brad.
Great episode. ! I love this lady! She is so knowledgeable and rational. I love how she’s about treating people sensibly and naturally. This is how all healthcare providers should be! Please keep having her on as a guest. Better yet,, Sara should start her own channel.
Bob, I’m so grateful for this interview with Sarah Meeks because I was just diagnosed with this condition. I follow all your videos and find them to be a godsend. Pleases keep up this wonderful information sharing that is so difficult to otherwise obtain!
My husband loves you both...he has parkinsons and finds it hard to understand the need to keep on keeping on which is so important for parkinsons...we go to a neuro physio clinic too, but you provide stimulus with your delightful human approach. i also want to thank you for having sara meek, because many probably would not want to share here expertise, but you are truly great physios by sharing your knowledge and helping share with other experts in theri field. Thank you so much.
I love all your videos. Thank you so much for your generous sharing with all. As a registered yoga instructor, I have one correction for the rapid expulsion breathing yoga practice shared by Sara. It is Kapalabhati and not Kabalabhati. Translated in Sanskrit it means skull shining. Kapala specifically means forehead part of the skull. Thank you Sara for bringing this to all. Peace!
It’s been a long while since you’ve done these videos. I just what to thank you for this series and for Sara! I’m so grateful. For the past decade, I’ve had bunion surgery on both feet, meniscus surgery on my R knee (so far) and now rotator cuff surgery 2x’s in 6 months. Still in recovery. Both on R shoulder. I figured out it was body mechanics, never knew how to adjust myself. And I’ve carried around extra weight. It’s a host of things my poor body has had to deal with. Now I’m sure I’ve come into osteoporosis. Will be doing a Dexa scan to confirm. I was very close in 2017. I’m 75 now and have been working up until Jan ‘24 when I had the 1st RC surgery. My shoulder was rolled in and posture was off. I think it’s from using the mouse, driving all these years. Anyway, the desk job hasn’t been my friend. Anyway, I’m so grateful to get this information you all have provided. Sara has given me a better and positive attitude about osteoporosis and gives me hope. Thank god for hope! just wanted to be in touch. I found you guys awhile back and you’ve provided a wealth of info that’s helped me get through many of these issu
I gained a half inch after I was done with this video. I am 1" below my normal at 66 yrs old. Thank you both so much. I'll have to practice with that breathing.
That's very encouraging. My question is, if we do these exercises frequently will the height increase be long term or only for a few hours afterward? Even short term would be a good thing for me though.
It's not only for the height for me, but it was an indicator. What these stretches do for me is strengthen my back. Every time I plop into my chair I'm compressing each little section of my back bone. I also push up and shake my buns before getting up or down from my arm chair. The best I have found are my sister's old fashioned wooden crutches. Does all core muscles, ribs area, shoulders with upper back. Also stretch the back of my calves to relieve the muscles that cause restless leg syndrome. Some kind of acid build up, forgot what it's called.
Bob and Brad you are the most famous physical therapists. Thankyou so much for having this wonderful person on your channel. I'm going to have to study this segment, but I need to know exactly what she is talking about. What a blessing, and blessings to you and your guest for giving us this information. Ann
Thank you for introducing us to a very genuine and innovative personality that’s full of knowledge and wisdom that’s willing to share passionately all that she knows and more. Would love to listen & see her more often.
Sara you are incredible and so inspiring. You look so healthy and young. I feel better just watching and listening to you. I feel so much more hopeful about my osteoporosis diagnosis. I will be using these techniques and visiting your website.
Thank you so much for this information! I hope Sara will come back again on your program. She is a delight. And she is sorely needed to help people who are dealing with this condition. There aren't many experts in the field of osteoporosis. Many people could benefit from knowledge as well as they could benefit from hope that improvement of the condition is possible.
Years ago I had a T9 fracture, which was when I discovered I had osteoporosis. Took bisphosphinates (for about a year) and developed osteonecrosis in my jaw which didn't show up until years after. Fortunately my bone loss has been a lot less, this video is a Godsend. Thank you!!!!
I'm in my seventies and yesterday it was walking pretty fast and my knee went out and so I started watching these. I know I have osteoporosis and I quit doing collagen smoothies when I got too busy and rolling around on a swim noodle on the floor for my back and I quit going to the chiropractor until my insurance kicks in in January and I have osteoporosis so I started watching my favorite two guys Bob and Brad and I'm glad I came across this. I'm going to start my smoothies, the breathing and lying on my back with a swim noodle. I am doing the number one knee strengthening exercise also. I ordered the correct brace and getting a kane today. Thanks!
Thank you Sarah for all the info you gave. I’ve severe osteoporosis diagnosed with my first compression fracture of T12 helping my husband move a tube television. Yes I was dumb to even try. Had kyphoplasty done but still continued to have pretty bad lumber pain. Turns out as time gone on the vertebrae below t12 started having silent micro fractures. No pain but my lower lumber constantly hurt me again mri showed more micro fractures……..a collapse happened when I was pulling an 3 shelf empty bookcase across tge carpet when I pulled it to turn the corner in the room my low back popped. Took me down to my knees. From T9 T11 down to L1L5 I am fused. Bone taken from my right hip help with scattered bones I have screws n rods holding my spine together rehabilitation afterwards was excruciating pain lumbar it was difficult for me to stand tge pressure was awful 1 mo later im home still in pain but not as horrific as it was. This surgery was 5 years ago. I am now hunched over with mid back pain at the thoracic curve and the screws are bulging at ny skin. Yea it’s gross u can see each screw head sticking out. Ugly as hell. I can not lay on my back screw heads hurt with pressure I have to use a walker so I can push myself up enough so my ribs don’t restrict my lungs. Please get 2-3 Opinions before deciding on fusion spine surgery when you have osteoporosis. Not a good idea to bounce in a trampoline if u have pretty bad osteoporosis don’t want ur spine to collapse should you land a certain way. Ask u dr First. Im gonna check out that brace Sarah mentioned, but I think my screws stick out to far. Thanks for listening.
Oh my gosh thank you Bob and Sara for doing these videos. I just got my diagnosis of osteoporosis a few weeks ago and was in a world of fear and denial. Just as Sara described in the stages of Death and Dying! Now listening to the Sara Meeks videos I feel able to try and help myself(and not with drugs either!) with the Meeks exercizes and feel a whole lot more positive. There are no osteoporosis experts around where I live so these videos are my lifeline. Thx so much!

I found this video by accident meant for my ears to hear. very powerful information would love to know more on the Meeks Method. Great information thanks.
Thank you for these videos. You confirmed what I thought about having atrial fibrillation that's triggered by bending over to clean or weed my yard. 😮😮 I'm 62 and bent over badly I used to be 5'10" and lost a lot of height. I wish I had known all this 10 years ago. I will try these because no supplement agrees with me..😢😢 I want to cry most days. I don't want a fracture or a heart attack!! 😮😮

Great book. How to live your life in a more safe and sober way.
So, so helpful, both times! Thank you!

I'm a yoga teacher who works with a yoga + osteoporosis group. I can tell you that there is a huge push in the yoga community to stop asking for a tucked tail. This has been going on for a few years. But I must say that there are teachers out there that still do that. . My advice is that if you come across a teacher who is doing this, know that they are not keeping up with their education.
what is a tucked tail

Interesting what she says about not tucking your tailbone. The Tai Chi instructor I use is always saying to keep your lower back tucked under. So that's what I was doing and every time I did my Tai Chi class, afterwards I would have a numbness or weird feeling in my lower back. So I stopped tucking my tailbone under and so far, I no longer have that problem.
This was so valuable I’m gonna watch it several times thank you so much
Thank you ! I really learned
So much with this information! God bless you!
That was wonderful! So informative!

Thank you for making a difference in my thought process.
This is very interesting i had fallen down and i have a very hard time seeing a doctor in my country and i had to stop working for pain
Amazing information. She's remarkable. Is her book accessible to the lay person? I have developed scoliosis in my 70s. No one has given me any hope of halting the progression. I am determined to live my best life. Thank you for presenting such helpful pod asts and exercise programs. You rock!
So now when the young people ask me, "Where is the Passion?". I'll point them to this video. This woman has felt the passion of the christ. Sheesh!

Best of luck! Thank you for watching!
