I feel like the rest of this album is going to be very different from this. Similar to what they did with the stage single in comparison to the rest of the album. I've been a fan of theirs for 22 years and musically I find this to be amazing. It's very different. There's a lot to digest and breakdown but after a few listens it becomes almost peaceful. Keep up the awesome work man.
With their self titled they had a little piece of heaven, very weird and out of the ordinary, but it worked well. I still go back to that song from time to time, such a masterpiece.
For one listen or two I think it’s really good, but not my cup of tea to jam to. I think M.Shadows voice has aged a bit in a good way and the dissonant opening riff compliments it very well.
I have to say I love this song. At first I was kind of disappointed it didn’t have that edge and bitterness we are used to but after listening to it the second of many times I realized they made a fucking masterpiece. They highlighted every band member at some point and it shows it was a love letter to music and to show off they are still the masters of the craft.
As a huge A7x fan this song is a hell of a treat. The production is very different, I remember that they said that they were drawing inspiration from Kanye West and weirdly enough it shows haha. M. Shadows sounds a bit odd tho, I think I need a couple listens to get used to his new vocal style. As far as guitar goes, Syn just knocks it out of the park once again, this man is a genius. It's a weird song to put out has a first single, but I think it works to give an overall idea of what the album is gonna be all about. Hopefully we get a heavy ass second single kinda like what we got with God Damn off The Stage
@Prentice Jones i get that, I remember that back when The Stage dropped I wasn't the biggest fan of Shadow's voice, but just like with this single it grew on me over time. As far as the riffs go, I think it's a matter of taste cause I loved them right in the first listen
@@ghosface353 😂😂😂 don’t insult Chris like that. M shadows sounds like he finished smoking a pack of cigarettes before he jumped on the mic. I like this band but nah…. Don’t this wasn’t it. They’re light years better than this.
It’s pure art. Whether people like it or not.. it’s what we love about them: they never stay the same and they are always changing for better or worse. Super excited for the album and I hope it’s proggy as fucked
I'm the same with each song/album I listen to, first time I listen I'm like "it's alright", then I give them more time and try to pay attention to more things and I end up loving them, this one is the same, can't wait to see what the rest of the album has for us
A7x means a lot to me. I started listening to them when I was 9, I'm 23 now. For me, they were the bridge to the beautiful world of heavy music. I actually started to drum thanks to them. This new single feels weird, but so did The Stage when I heard it for the first time. Can't wait for the album. I can't really choose my fav song, so these are my top 5: Brompton Cocktail, Critical Acclaim, Turn the other way, Unbound, Planets
Save Me off the nightmare album has been my favorite since I first heard it and it hasn’t changed! I dig the new single but I would agree it felt like a teaser for what’s to come
Same here, that and "Natural Born K*ller". Nightmare is actually my favorite A7X album, I don't get why it was soo controversial, that album was fantastic!
@@BigHomieSteveTheMetalHead I don’t remember it being controversial but I do remember those who didn’t know how to feel about who they got to fill in for the drums on the album but I loved that record and still do
For someone like me the idea of this being a peak at what's to come with the album gets me excited, they said they were going to be super outside the box for this album and shadows is going for a new vocal style with it so give it time and I'm sure it'll age well, the stage did and look at how upset people were when Roman sky was released
Headphones to absorb that bass and all the nuance . This is going to be a banger in the car as well with the bass. Thinking how this is going to fit in to the album as a whole is interesting. It’s the 3rd track so this might be a comedown from a much more energetic beginning. They already have notes that it’s going to be meant to be listened to and consumed as a whole. I think they do that really well. Coming Home is one of my favorite A7X songs
I've been following A7X for many year now and I have to say that I'm hyped with this new single and record. I hope it brings more of this dark sway. I can't put a name on a single song that can call my favorite, but "Trashed and Scattered" is up there. Greetings from Chile
I think this song is a huge indicator of how different and unique this new album is going to be, which is sick!! Blinded in Chains or The Stage are my favorites still
I listened to it about 9 times now and it definitely grew on me to the point that i now love it. I agree it was a weird first song to put out but the more i listened the more i liked it. Syn's solo was amazing as per usual and Matt's voice sounded grittier to me and i really liked it. The instrumentals overall and the lyrics were great too. This makes me even more excited to hear the full album whenever it comes out. Oh i subbed to your channel also!
This is for sure a part of a sequence of songs that connect. They way that solo just cuts off at the end will be where this track ends at the start of another. I'm so excited
Personally i really liked Nobody but like you said in the vid, the context with the song would be alot better when the full album is released Also my favorite Avenged Song is Almost Easy since its the first song i ever heard by them and been a fan ever since
more i listen to it more i get addicted to it, but first time hearing it was so weird and mixed emotions that i instantly started listening to it on repeat. it has so many layers that it's imposiible to catch everything at once, every more listen reveals every little secret they put in this song. it's gonna be long three months before we get album (especially after teasing us with this "controversial" song) but god damn this song will get me throu that time quickly. i am greatful to be fan of a band that isn't scared of changes and doing "unpopular" stuff.
What I absolutely love about the guitar solo is how "raw" it sounds. It sounds like they took his best take, and didn't remove any of the imperfections.
This one's a grower for sure. I think your point about it being almost "trance-like" is an excellent way to describe it and, given the theme, had to have been what they were going for. The idea of being faced (or literally shown, here) with your own cosmic irrelevance and just being numb to it. The more I watch this video the heavier that idea gets, and the music supports it hauntingly.
That was SO MUCH BETTER than I was expecting. I totally agree with your thoughts. This is just the beggining of something much bigger. Besides of that, my favorite song still is A Little Piece of Heaven
This single feels like the opening to the rest of the album, it was solid but feel there's bigger things coming from the rest of the album. My favourite a7x song has to be the masterpiece that is a little piece of heaven.
I think an 8/10 rating from you is very accurate. Overall a great song that will get better with time, I loved the trippy, dark feel to it and it leaves you excited for the June album release. However, I would have loved a little more after the solo.
Shadows sounds a little different, but with the surgery on his vocal cords I expected it to change eventually The Stage album some songs sounded like he was really straining to hit some notes. However he sounds fucking great in concert
Ok!! I get it.... The vocals are ground down and stationary. I am still waiting for M. Shadows to go hard on this album!! I believe he is in a poised state and waiting for people to doubt him, so he can unleash the dragon that is him!! Even if he doesn't I am still here because that is what a true fan is 🎉
First listen I was surprised. What an interesting new sound, then moving into the solo it's like woah they're going in all different directions. Overall I love it. And I noticed the song grows on you significantly after a few listens, which seems to be the case with a7x music.
Second heartbeat will always be my favorite avenged sevenfold song but seeing how throughout the years this band has kept its roots and always given us something new, unique, and innovative. That's why they've always been my favorite band! The new song fits the same category. In has many layers when really broken down, has a message, the musicianship is top tier, and the more you listen to this song the better it gets and the more details pop out! 10/10 for me! :)
It's so hard to pick just one!!! With so many good songs they do. Just a solid band all together. I seen this song as it premiered live stream and I was taken back. I can't wait til June 2nd
I love how proggy this song is and how there's not really a traditional songwriting structure, the instrumentals were pretty good and M. Shadows' voice isn't what it used to be after vocal surgeries but is solid for this type of song. I don't hate it, but I don't really love it either, but it's a damn good song. Also my favorite A7X song is Unbound (The Wild Ride) 🤘🏾
Shadows' new flair is the purest sign of a vocalist reignited! Think about their past, why this record has taken so long, this song is a red hot indication! I cant wait to hear M's new vocal approach live with more of an attack to it, grit and flavor. First A7X record ive been interested in for a long time, so i expect a new set of sounds within!
I’ll be honest after 7 years I was expecting a lot more. This song almost feels like a demo . And some aspects of the production are really rough, I think the vocals especially really didn’t do Matt any favors. I’m optimistic tho, hopefully the album is still good , I’ll still support them either way . As of now I’m worried haha. Thanks for the reaction!
Favorite A7X song just might be Save Me, but it changes periodically. This Nobody is a nice groove. I like how you called it a teaser for the rest of the album. For the moment, really digging on this track, and looking forward to the rest of Life is but a Dream!
These guys are fearless! You have to admire that. They def don’t stick to a formula. The song bumps on good speakers and that outro solo is a face melter!
Fans of their proggy stuff are probably going to like this. Fans of their heavier stuff (me!) probably won't dig it as much. Maybe it'll grow on me with time
Its such a cool single, its interesting, ever time ive listened to it, which is about five time now, its grown on me. and my favorite avenged sevenfold song in almost easy, just memories of old nfs prostreet and its what introduced me to avenged sevenfold
I love about 88% of this song. I've listened to it about 30 times so far today, and it grows on you. Definitely a difference in Matt's voice not sure how I feel about it. But man his singing blows me away from where he started. Can't wait for the full album

Yeah that guitar motif that played throughout the whole song is very ear catching. It’s reminds me of the war of the worlds horns. Very doomsday sounding, fits the video really well
One thing people are complaining about is shadow's voice. His voice sounds MUCH better than the last time we heard hime sing. Listen to his song with These Grey Men. His voice could barely give anything and he couldn't even sing normally without rasp. Now he can sing clean notes easily. The vocal rest did him well. I think it's stupid that people were expecting his voice to sound like it did on earlier albums after he had like 20 years of vocal abuse
I'm gonna have to listen to this on its own a couple times before I probably Get It. It definitely holds your attention, and I am interested in hearing where it belongs on the album (if this is coming w an album??). idk I really dig it so far! I'm typing this as the video is still rolling and that guitar solo is so sick!! love a good guitar solo!!
It's great to finally hear some new Avenged Sevenfold!! I might be in the minority here, but my favourite Avenged Sevenfold also is Hail to the King - and my favourite song from that album is Requiem. I also love Almost Easy from the self-titled album.
I don't know if I love it or not but. I listened to this song like 10 times I don't know but I think I love the band so much that i grown on me like it has been my fav right now🤣
My favourite song would probably be Thick and Thin from their first album, but its really difficult to pick a song from them when they have so many awesome songs :)
I feel like this did exactly what they wanted it to. Give us just enough that we want more but not too much that they spoil the album. Hyped for the album.
First listen through, it was a bit of a miss. Subsequent listens were much kinder. The chorus really lands for me. SUPER catchy. (The chorus is the part with the sweeping) And I can respect them for trying something new. The tone really shone through. You can feel exactly what they were going for.
I think this is great despite matts vocal injury. He sounds different but still sounds like matt just older (obviously) I cant wait for the rest of the album
It seems like they're continuing the sound they were going for on The Stage, and if that's the case I'm totally fine with it, it's my favorite album from them behind Waking the Fallen. Looking forward to the rest of the album
Once I dug deeper than the main riff, the musicianship here is outstanding, as are the vocals. Only taking a shallow dive here is a huge disservice. Very interested in the whole of the album. 👍😳👍
As a fan from the city era, it feels like shads is holding back in this. Not an album i haven’t gotten into but this doesn’t sound like classic sevenfold. It sounds completely different. Kind of how diamonds in the rough was for self titled coming from the stage
I love that you review and give pros and cons at the end with a score. But I’d be curious to have updated scores a year after the album released if you are able to get many listens in. So I’d like to flip that one con of yours around to a pro. I believe, as art, they intentionally left out a climax. Based off of the theme and the message, it’s a dreary existential feeling of being a god, yet mortal.. and one day nothing… putting the solo at the end with the character’s existential crisis.. and how it ends kind of abruptly… it’s perfect. The whole vibe fits the story… I think Matt’s vocal style of being a bit strained, not full lung power, was completely intentional. So excited for the album!
To me, the interpretation of the music video is this: A man is depressed in the world and body he lives in. So his soul travels around the earth and through history to find peace and joy. He realizes that the world is full of death and destruction and so meets the devil who then tells him he will take the man's soul to a eutopic paradise. The man agrees and lets the devil take him to this eutopic paradise in a different world. When the man arrives he realizes that this "perfect place" is actually an artificially created hell where no one else exists and everything is fake (because a perfect artificial eutopic world does not actually exists). And so the mans soul runs to the edge of this hell and jumps off into the space time continuum to then rejoin his body. The moral of the story is to be careful what you ask for because you just might get it. Be careful searching for paradise because what you think is paradise might actually be hell in the end.
This is amazing! That blister reeked havoc on Matt’s voice unfortunately… but kudos for him doing the best he can! Also am I the only one who noticed the “GOD” trilogy on the track list?
Shadows sounds very similar to Cornell in my opinion. And the track overall has a very interesting Dream Theatre experimental vibe to it. I was not 100% on the vocal style at first but after a few listens it eventually grew to fit the track very well. They definitely are playing off the sound of The Stage, which I loved. I think its Synyster Gates best guitar work over all of their discography. This track alone with all the arpeggios and the really well done solo was nuts.
Loved your input. At first, I was mostly shocked by what this song was. Now that the "shock" has passed, I appreciate it more, especially musically. really solid. My favorite A7X song : mmm... tough one... but I think I'll go with the song that made me discover the band, The Beast and The Harlot. Gotta say that Unholy Confessions is a really close one though :)
I feel like it's a continuation of exist and this did grow on me after 4 takes but it's amazing and the video is just as good Sevenfold always experimented with its music and I'm not disappointed this was amazing and I can't wait for the rest of it on June 2nd
It's funky, it's weird. I like it. A piece of their art and creativity on display. Definitely think it feels like the opening song to the album. So many things are left open to interpretation. I'm excited for what they come up with in the new album. Oh by the way, my favorite Avenged Sevenfold songs are Nightmare, A Little Piece of Heaven, and So Far Away.
I really enjoy the style they had in the past already, if this song marks the new style for A7x then I’m down. This is really different then what we know but god I love it, would love to see more songs like this
I didn't realize how much I hate it listening via phone speaker. I listen to this song twice on phone speaker, the layers are all gone. Listening to a proper speaker makes a huge difference.

I also love Almost Easy from the self-titled album.
i wont see you tonight part 1, gives me chills everytime
I like it, can't wait to hear the album.
I don't know if I love it or not but. I listened to this song like 10 times I don't know but I think I love the band so much that i grown on me like it has been my fav right now🤣
This is definetly one of the most interesting a7x songs ive heard so far cant wait for more like this and bat country is my favourite
Fav song is eternal rest. Love this track. If the point of their single is to get me excited for an album, I have to give it a 9/10.
This song with headphones is a trip
My favourite song would probably be Thick and Thin from their first album, but its really difficult to pick a song from them when they have so many awesome songs :)
This song is phenomenal!!!!
Ngl I can hear some of like Muse from their Simulation Theory vibe, absolutely love it🔥
Favorite A7x track is “We Come Out at Night” off of Sounding the Seventh Trumpet! 🎺
Tbh it feels like one of those transition songs they did on the stage too, carrying the story through a transition
I feel like this did exactly what they wanted it to. Give us just enough that we want more but not too much that they spoil the album. Hyped for the album.
I wouldn't be surprised and I would be happy if they were to release a "Nobody Pt 2".
The first time i listened to it I was like that was a heck of a ride!
First listen through, it was a bit of a miss.
Subsequent listens were much kinder. The chorus really lands for me. SUPER catchy. (The chorus is the part with the sweeping)
And I can respect them for trying something new. The tone really shone through. You can feel exactly what they were going for.
'Im a God, I'm awake, I'm the one in everything
I'm alive, I'm the dead, I'm a man without a head’
I think this is great despite matts vocal injury. He sounds different but still sounds like matt just older (obviously) I cant wait for the rest of the album
That repeating riff reminds me of a siren - like The Purge. I really like this song and the video! Hard to choose a favorite A7X song.
I liked this song when I first heard it, but it definitely gets better with each listen. I have high hopes for the new album 🖤
My favorite A7x song is easily Chapter Four
Hard to pick a favorite, but first one that ran through my head was second heartbeat
My Mom passed away recently so without a doubt So Far Away is my favorite......Not sure why every time I hear it my eyes start to water.........
It seems like they're continuing the sound they were going for on The Stage, and if that's the case I'm totally fine with it, it's my favorite album from them behind Waking the Fallen. Looking forward to the rest of the album
2:44 is my favorite part love this song 😊
To me, the interpretation of the music video is this:
A man is depressed in the world and body he lives in.
I think this is exactly what they wants, confused us a little bit more for what’s to come haha
I’ve went from not sure, to it’s pretty good, to man I fucking love this
It's funky, it's weird.
Technically it's only been five years since we got a new Avenged Sevenfold song Mad Hatter released in 2018 for Black Ops 4 zombies
Save me off of nightmare is my favorite song by them
It’s definitely different but I like it and can’t wait for more❤
riff sounds like a siren. helps with the ambience and vibe forsure
