See, I reckon the problem with Mario Party clones is that they aren’t cloned enough. They all try something to be different. “Mario Party with a twist!” No, the reason Mario Party works is because it’s a winning formula that can’t have too much more added to it without sacrificing the fun. It’s about 4 players rolling a dice earning money by playing minigames at the end of each turn to get the big shiny collectable somewhere on the big map. Whoever has most of the shiny collectable, wins!
Juan D'Marco Yeah, the deviations from the formula are what have stuck out most to me. Granted, I haven’t played many of the games (only 8, 9, DS, and Island Tour) but pretty consistently, the problems I’ve had are with each game’s twists. 8’s Star Battle Arena: a story mode is an interesting idea, but you can only do it once per save file, and it’s all 1v1; having it as you versus 3 AIs would be more interesting. DS was generally meh, but my biggest issue was the boss minigames, which were either way too hard (the final one) or way too easy (all of the others; the one with the Hammer Bro on the drums in particular went down in less than thirty seconds!). Island Tour’s various maps were way too gimmicky and way too short, especially the space one that I’m pretty sure I finished in three turns or something like that due to getting a lucky roll with the boosters; that game was utterly horrible. Mario Party 9... I actually enjoyed it a lot more than most people, and the boss minigames were fantastic (when they weren’t totally luck-based, like the Bowser Jr dice-rolling game), but I agree that the major divergence from the series’ usual formula was a bit hard to swallow. Overall, the base MP formula has been fine with me, except for when it’s luck-based; dice-rolling never bothered me, but I have always hated the purely luck-based minigames, like MP8’s Cardiators. I may as well put down the Wiimote and watch Luigi win by doing absolutely nothing! It’s just so pointless; why make a minigame where what you can’t do anything to change your chances of winning, and the game may just as well flip a coin to determine the winner?
You should of covered Spongebob Lights Camera Pants it's a really good mario party styled game and I think it's better than some of the mario party games
And you don't even need to buy Amiibo Festival for the Island Escape game, because they added that as a side-game to play in New Leaf in its amiibo expansion.
I see Totally Spies! in the thumbnail and I'm terrified. Also I used to play pretend Totally Spies! with two other girls on the playground. It was the only positive social interaction I had for years so I remember it fondly.
Crash course on Totally Spies: 3 high school girls: _exist_ Spy organization: "all our members suck and/or are deceased." Girls: _accidentally find secret base_ Jerry: "you're hired" Mindy: _is the worst_ Also every boy is either the villain, secretly an asshole, or is otherwise undateable for some trivial reason, such as liking Mindy or, idk, leprosy?
I always forget how much fun I have watching your videos Austin. I need to catch up on some of your stuff! Keep up the awesome work and I can't wait for the follow up(s) to this video.
My great grandma showed up to my house one day with a copy of Pac-Man Party when my parents had to go out for the day. The worst part about it has to be that my brother and I actually used to like the game and had a lot of fun with it....
Over here in the UK, Poundland sold Amiibo Festival for £5 for a while, probably excess stock from other major stores or something, but people bought loads and made so much money on trade-ins. I wish I'd tried that XD
Tamagotchi World: 1997 (JP) Pocket Monsters Aka and Poket Monsters Midori (original Pokemon Red and Green): 1996 (JP) Yeah, you got that wrong. Also, the reason they came so late to America was because technically Red and Blue are not the Japanese games, but a repurposed Pocket Monsters Ao with the distinctions of Pokemon Red and Blue. So technically you're right in that both games are younger than the Tamagotchi one... you're NOT right in that they got their party game before Pokemon. Ironically, it did came a whole year before Mario Party, so... yay?
It's funny because the best minigame on Amiibo Festive was retroactively put into New Leaf during it's Amiibo Update. All you need is a 3DS or Wii U item (I forget which one) in your house and you can play D.I.E. (Desert Island Escape) pretty much as much as you want. You'll still need the amiibo cards but honestly they're cheap as shit and also as someone who loves animal crossing I was gonna get some anyways. The other game console item gets you the Puzzle League game which is also pretty rad. I love me some Panel De Pon
I got Amiibo Festival for 10$ sealed. Walmart couldn't get rid of the surplus until they massively slashed the price. I got it for the Amiibo and the box. lol
As someone in the minority of people who actually enjoyed Sonic Shuffle (and want it to have a sequel and/or remake), I'm not sure whether I should be sad or happy that you decided not to talk about it in this video.
Desert Island Escape is extremely fun. If they sold it as a standalone version with more levels, I would buy it. I never had too much issue with RNG, you can always see the wheel before you attempt something. As long as you're playing your abilities properly it's a good bit of risk/reward.
Dokapon kingdom is a cursed game. I've seen it cause fucking fights between people. It's great but it's a fucking relationship destroyer also totally spies was a weird french animation with giving a ton of younger audiences questionable fetishes.
Totally Spies is My Favorite TV Series of All Time When I Was 7 in 2004 That it Was Aired on Cartoon Network. But Making Video Games Out of The Series is a Major Disappointment.
Another great video austin. Looking forward to the next one. But please give us another retro review please. I'm sure myself and everyone else would love to see one again.
I'm afraid of certain dreams, like trying to wake up in the dream and I can't, or usually my mother coming back to life and my family thinks I'm the weird one because she isn't supposed to be alive, the latter is way more common occurring. Also I want to buy the summer outfit Isabelle just because it's cute and Nendoroid's are expensive.
Nice list, though I am kinda surprised Disney’s Party wasn’t on here as it is one of the more...dull party video games. I imagine there’d be a sequel to this, given there are way more Party games than the ones mentioned here. I look forward to that video if that’s the case! :D
Tbh I like Amiibo Festival even tho it's kinda trash. It reminds me of Life the board game and it's cute....also my family gets overly competitive with it. So now that alot of this stuff has dropped in price I feel like I got my value. I still haven't hit the 60 bucks original price....and I have like all the main content
I almost wanted to see Cartoon Network Block Party for the GBA here. It is like a Mario Party game with some really easy mini games and the way to win was to get a certain required object(s) and/or money/points and reach home first to win.
Wait, Austin, are you just gonna ignore over the character model at 3:19? Or you purposely ignoring because well...I mean just bringing any sort attention to it draws out all sorts of discomfort on all sorts of levels. Because I would not blame you if that's the case, that model gave me the jibblies.
I'm honestly surprised there was zero mention of a rather good Mario Party clone (minus the mini-games), 100% Orange Juice. Considering it has a lot of depth and charm to it, and a surprising amount of strategy based on the character and cards chosen. Not only that but the DLC characters aren't completely broken or pay to win, and you can play just fine and have a lot of fun with just the base characters without ever having to really spend a dime on it.
There's actually a Japan only Tamagotchi party game on the Nintendo 64 called Minna de Tamagotchi World that pre-dates the first Mario Party by a year. It's actually very fun.
you want an obscure mario party style board game rip off? there was a rugrats version on the N64. Don't remember the title just remember loosing friends over how horrible the game was
Ah Sonic Shuffle, I fondly remember spending hours playing that game, some of the mini-games were legit good, Riot Train was balls hard though, mostly cause of that final mini-game which requires an inhuman amount of button-mashing but for some reason it never ever worked for me, so I only ever beat the game once or twice.
I have Amiibo Festival twice. They sell them VERY cheap new at stores over here. Once i paid 10 bucks at a store and once even just 5 bucks including shipping at ebay. From the same store where i got the first one XD One stays sealed in my colelction. And the other one i just bought so i finally have some amiibos to use with at least something^^ Amiibos are damn expensive otherwise.
Desert Island escape got ported to New Leaf so there is no reason to own amiibo fetival... Outside of the fact that stores sell it so cheap it takes most of the price off the amiibos it comes with. Yep, the game has a literal negative economic value.
It looks like you got some New Leaf mixed in to the middle of the Amiibo festival segment probably since they added Desert Island Escape in there along side puzzle league since it was the one game mode people actually enjoyed.
I did the math of what Austin set up The game launched at $60 The fifteen Amiibo costing $13 on average is $195 And if ten of the 460 cards come in a single pack and you somehow got every card, six bucks a pack is $276 Add it all up and the whole entire collection would be $531
i used to rent pac man 2 the new adventures for genesis from game/movie rental store over 20 years ago. i really used to love tht game as a kid but it wud get me so mad. doing anything in tht game requires high levels of patience
Totally Spies was amazing XD I used to watch this show even when I didn't actually identify with any of the three girls lmao. It was just hilarious and so awesome
I enjoyed amiibo fest for the first...week. 😂 then I spent like, a month obsessed with desert island escape but lmao then new leaf got the 3ds and wiiu so uh I've never touched amiibo fest again. Also lmao okay so like jokes on me cause I spent well over $1000cad to get all the amiibo cards. :/ worth it tho cause I freaking LOVE AC and I framed them all in a massive wallframe
Mass Media's reign of terror will never end, first they make 10 CD-i games, then a bunch of terrible Mario Party clones, and then they horribly fuck up the Vita version of Jak & Daxter Trilogy
I have to ask what the music for the horror section is where you reveal shrek game. I feel that I've heard that from vampire the masquerade bloodlines but I searched the entire soundtrack and couldn't find it.
If theres a fetish Totaly Spies has an episode dedicated to it
Luckily the scat episode was never aired
Haru Okumura ntr?
Haru Okumura
I hope that a very exaggerated joke.
So true
Is there a period blood one? If not, it's probably airing on BuzzFeed
See, I reckon the problem with Mario Party clones is that they aren’t cloned enough. Whoever has most of the shiny collectable, wins!
And Nintendo themselves screw up when they try to do something too different with Mario Party. lol
Never played any games but I've seen gameplays. xD
Juan D'Marco Yeah, the deviations from the formula are what have stuck out most to me. Totally Spies and Yu Yu Hakusho are really the same series if you think about it
I recognize your Icon
in what way exactly
You should of covered Spongebob Lights Camera Pants it's a really good mario party styled game and I think it's better than some of the mario party games
The fact that Pac Man fever can come up with good remixes from a single track is kinda...
Impressive?
And you don't even need to buy Amiibo Festival for the Island Escape game, because they added that as a side-game to play in New Leaf in its amiibo expansion.
My scarves.... ;_;
Please stop all this Cliffhangers
Austin Eruption What about Shrek Super Slam
Austin Eruption muppets when?
I'd play Kirby's Big Green Murder Garden
Y'know, same
And the stage cleared music is a thrash metal version
I would drop stupid vbucks into this
I see Totally Spies! in the thumbnail and I'm terrified.
Also I used to play pretend Totally Spies! with two other girls on the playground. It was the only positive social interaction I had for years so I remember it fondly.
I know im 3 years late and people probably said this. But Totally SPies is worth a watch. Maybe not the whole series, but at least a few episodes.
BE HAPPY!
BE POPULAR!
BE PRESIDENT!
Princess Luna SAD.
Princess Luna Wait... That line did exist in the show... IT ALL MAKES SENSE
Princess Luna What about Shrek Super Slam
"Oh a totally spies game, I wonder when Austin will find the episode with his feti-"
Instantly.
Crash course on Totally Spies:
3 high school girls: _exist_
Spy organization: "all our members suck and/or are deceased."
Girls: _accidentally find secret base_
Jerry: "you're hired"
Mindy: _is the worst_
Also every boy is either the villain, secretly an asshole, or is otherwise undateable for some trivial reason, such as liking Mindy or, idk, leprosy?
I always forget how much fun I have watching your videos Austin. I need to catch up on some of your stuff! Keep up the awesome work and I can't wait for the follow up(s) to this video.

"Say hello to the Evil Bog, Donkey!"
- I'm not kidding; that's what it says.
My great grandma showed up to my house one day with a copy of Pac-Man Party when my parents had to go out for the day. The worst part about it has to be that my brother and I actually used to like the game and had a lot of fun with it....
"is this the cast of the next tales of game?" this line made me lose my SHIT
That Seto Kaiba figure looks amazing.
"Today's Victim..."
*Thinks that he points at Kaiba*
Me: I've never actually played Mario Party
Austin: Get Out.
I would have liked to see more variety...like "Here are some Mario Party Clones, but GOOD!"
When you're seven years old with only an Xbox and no knowledge of Mario party, Shrek super party is a lot of fun
Wow Pac-Man Fever is an incredibly noughties game for such an eighties catchphrase.
now i really want to hear about muppets party cruise
The Portly Gamer it’s awful, my little sister was obsessed with it
I'd recommend ProtonJon's coverage on the game here ua-cam.com/video/m6wiARvzy88/v-deo.html *game starts at **2:53:40*
It's worth it to hear Kermit rapping, but that's about it.
Holy shit Robinhood from Shrek super party is straight nightmare fuel.
Your pfp is straight nightmare fuel
The only good part of Amiibo Festival was added to New Leaf anyway
Wait... There's a One Piece Mario party game?
Maybe Lights Camera Pants? It's actually a pretty fun Party game which heavily focuses on Minigames & points.
Over here in the UK, Poundland sold Amiibo Festival for £5 for a while, probably excess stock from other major stores or something, but people bought loads and made so much money on trade-ins. I wish I'd tried that XD
Tamagotchi predates Pokemon, actually
The party game... not so much.
That's true, although there is a Japanese-exclusive Tamagotchi party game on 64 that predates Pokemon in the US.
Tamagotchi World: 1997 (JP)
Pocket Monsters Aka and Poket Monsters Midori (original Pokemon Red and Green): 1996 (JP)
Yeah, you got that wrong.
Ironically, it did came a whole year before Mario Party, so... yay?
Richard Surraco well, technically i stated that tamagotchi 1997 predates Pokemon in the US, because that was 1998.
My sister and I actually loved Pacman Party, having gotten it when we had to return smash bro's, as it didn't work on our wii
Ah totally spies
The show that I feel started a lot of different fetishes
That show awakens things in you...
Yeah it probably did. The UA-camr Saberspark called it fetish fuel which I agree it is
I love it, and also Martin Mystery especialy martin, he's my personal hero
It's funny because the best minigame on Amiibo Festive was retroactively put into New Leaf during it's Amiibo Update. Wii U for Desert Island Escape. 3DS lets you play Puzzle League. literally the only interactive stuff in my New Leaf basement arcade...
I got Amiibo Festival for 10$ sealed. Walmart couldn't get rid of the surplus until they massively slashed the price. I got it for the Amiibo and the box. lol
Let us take a moment and be thankful that Austin Eruption wears shirts that show off his chest hair.
Huh?
We *need* to make Kirby’s Big Green Murder Garden a real thing. Even if it’s just Kirby Battle Royale Online from a over-the-shoulder perspective
I had a crush on Alex growing up. I loved this show haha.
As someone in the minority of people who actually enjoyed Sonic Shuffle (and want it to have a sequel and/or remake), I'm not sure whether I should be sad or happy that you decided not to talk about it in this video.

Kawaii five-o+ I remember watching that show as a kid
6 years since New Leaf the feels

I don't play party games because I don't have any friends...
Except for that Mario Party in the GBA, that was a good game
You kidding me, it sucked so bad that it should be in this video
Megasceptile99 well, maybe is because is the only one that I've played, but for a single player is ok
1. 4 characters
2. Terrible story (good but wrong genre)
3. Forgettable 1 player games
4. It's impossible at times
Really? I find it much better to play more than 9 and 10 to be honest
The one that involved the Nintendo e-Reader?
That pac man fever joke got me. I forgot about that chibi astaroth.
Nice list, though I am kinda surprised Disney’s Party wasn’t on here as it is one of the more...dull party video games. I imagine there’d be a sequel to this, given there are way more Party games than the ones mentioned here. I look forward to that video if that’s the case! :D
Totally Spies is my favorite adult swim cartoon
LOL
I watched totally spy when I was younger. It wasn't bad. At least I didn't think so.
I'm a straight guy in his mid 20 and have no shame in admitting that i love Totally Spies
Austin lurks GameFAQS. The more you know.
No LIghts Camera Pants? You gotta be kidding me. It has no board things like Mario Party, but it also has quite an amount of minigames.

N E K
I always thought Amiibo festival was more of a Fortune Street clone but I guess I might be wrong.
They really should have put a Tales of character in Pac Man Fever, they're the only ones who could fit that art style.
Both Totally Spies and Yu Yu Hakusho are the shit.
I'm honestly surprised there was zero mention of a rather good Mario Party clone (minus the mini-games), 100% Orange Juice. Considering it has a lot of depth and charm to it, and a surprising amount of strategy based on the character and cards chosen. I just found you
This is A spicy channel i think I'll stick around
10:39 what song is that.
I loved pacman party as a kid, but your criticism is pretty fair. and that tamagotchi one looks so cute though, I wish I got to play it.
how the fuck have you never seen totally spies?
"Nintendo's most transparent attempt at extracting money from consumers".
Missed opportunity for a Fire Emblem Heroes joke.
That Animal Crossing one, jesus...
Even Birth By Sleep had a monopoly and racing minigame. Dunno why bringing up BBS but, there it is.
You know that minigame you liked in Amiibo Festival. There's an update which makes it playable in New Leaf
The mario party clones keep comin' and they don't stop comin'..
Did the math: Going with $5 per amiibo, and knowing 6 cards come in a pack ($1 per card) I figured that the entire experience would cost you $595.
Pac Man All-Stars was also kind of a party game, but it’s REALLY barebones.
Not bad at all! Nice video! I'd be curious if there's any particularly good mario party clones though too.
Too bad Mary Kate and Ashley's Sweet 16: Licensed To Drive wasn't on this list of dumpster fire Clones. That is some hilarious shit right there.
I have muppet party cruise on the PS2, can confirm it is leagues better than the other two MM games.
Props for shouting out Yu Yu Hakusho, that show is beloved and all but doesn't have that outside the anime community fame it deserves.
Dokapon Kingdom is the game I love to play
and every time me and my friends play it, we die a little inside from pure salt and hate
I'm early, I need to make a joke
Sao
God Eatter
Your. CELLPHONE CASE. I'm in love.
Desert Island escape got ported to New Leaf so there is no reason to own amiibo fetival...
Outside of the fact that stores sell it so cheap it takes most of the price off the amiibos it comes with.
Yep, the game has a literal negative economic value.
Fantastic use of the Chrono Cross soundtrack in this episode.
It looks like you got some New Leaf mixed in to the middle of the Amiibo festival segment probably since they added Desert Island Escape in there along side puzzle league since it was the one game mode people actually enjoyed.
I did the math of what Austin set up
The game launched at $60
The fifteen Amiibo costing $13 on average is $195
And if ten of the 460 cards come in a single pack and you somehow got every card, six bucks a pack is $276
Add it all up and the whole entire collection would be $531
Each booster has 6 cards. It's worse sorry.
Austin Eruption Wow, I was being generous on that disaster. In that case. It'd be $717 for everything.
Holy. Shit.
Totally Spies had the appearance of a girls programme, but was 100% made for boys.
Really hope that next batch of clones includes that Rugrats one where they're at a Movie Studio(?)
i used to rent pac man 2 the new adventures for genesis from game/movie rental store over 20 years ago. i really used to love tht game as a kid but it wud get me so mad. doing anything in tht game requires high levels of patience
SpongeBob SquarePants: Lights, Camera, Pants
Was that Seven Samurai 20XX in the beginning? Man, I haven't touched that game in a while.
A Namco Party game would be good but only if the King of All Cosmos from Katamari hosts the mini-games

Amiibo festival bombed so hard here that i got mine brand new with the 2 amiibos and the cards for 5 dollars
Title : Mario Party Clones
Me : Where is Wii party?
You said fuck a few times and I still got two 2 minute ads on this video, so proud of you!
I love you.
This channel is my new home
I have to ask what the music for the horror section is where you reveal shrek game. I feel that I've heard that from vampire the masquerade bloodlines but I searched the entire soundtrack and couldn't find it.
Uh oh Shrek, off to the evil bog
